Finding a place to stay in Colmar often feels like choosing between a postcard and your wallet. The Alsatian capital enchants visitors with its pastel half-timbered houses, winding canals in La Petite Venise, and world-class Christmas markets. However, the high demand for this fairy-tale aesthetic usually drives hotel prices into the luxury bracket, leaving budget travelers searching for alternatives.

The good news is that you do not have to sacrifice comfort or location to stay within your budget. While Colmar lacks massive hostel chains, it boasts a robust selection of family-run inns, modern budget chains, and cozy guesthouses. These properties allow you to spend less on a bed and more on experiencing the region’s famous Rieslings and hearty Choucroute garnie.

We have analyzed the local hospitality market to find the best intersections of price, location, and guest satisfaction. The key to budget travel in Colmar is understanding the geography; staying just outside the historic center can save you 30% to 50% on nightly rates. Yet, even within the old town, a few hidden gems offer excellent value for money.

In this guide, we prioritize properties that consistently receive high marks for cleanliness, service, and authenticity. Whether you are visiting for the Magic of Christmas or the summer Alsace wine route, these accommodations provide a comfortable base. We have verified typical price ranges and amenities to ensure you get the best return on your travel investment.

I dont understand the 2.9 rating on Google. What do people expect from a hotel for 60€ per night? Roomservice, swimming pool and sauna? 🤣 I think the place is exactly what you can expect from it. The room is very clean, bed is comfortable, the breakfast was nice. The staff is also very kind. The parking next to the hotel is very big and cheap, so no need to worry about not having a parking space.
Cesare★★★★★
Central, with parking lot right in front. Air conditioning working well, very good breakfast, clean room, comfy bed. Considering the price, I can't complain!
Johanna H.★★★☆☆
The hotel is a older one but for us it fitted. We found a parking space next to the hotel for charge. And ten minutes per walk away was also a big parking space for free (manufacture). This was a good hint of one of the employees. We hadn’t a paper sign for the door to clean oder clean not the room. But there was someone in the room for cleaning without our knowing. Who doesn’t care about a new and modern furnished room which is clean, has space and is good located, will be happy with this hotel. We haven’t eat there for breakfast. So we can’t say anything about the food.

Cheap for a reason. Fairly tired decor throughout. Rooms very tight on space. In our particular room, the curtain was missing, the toilet seat was the wrong size and one of the bed reading lights didn't work. Bed itself was comfortable and clean.

The location is superb. Besides the bed, the room itself is dirty. Staff was friendly but the place looks really torn down and shady. Staff not wearing any uniform, just the building itself is not well maintained. The airco was nice tho. But no trash can and the smell was really bad. I had to open a window for the bad sewer smell. Wifi is non existent too. It's inexpensive but still.

I get it, it's a budget hotel. But. Aircon wouldn't allow anything less than 24C and there's a notice on the window advising "do not open window due to insects". So fix the aircon and put insect blinds on the window! Staff were great, very welcoming and helpful. Oh, and just found out this chain is owned by Goldmam Sachs! So it's now a 1 star

The hotel is very far away the rooms are incredibly small and the breakfast is very insufficient I definitely do not recommend it. The rooms are not cleaned properly either. The only positive thing was the reception staff they were kind and helpful. Apart from that it is a terrible hotel.

Good place to transit during holiday. Rooms are clean, neat, but they stinks. Reasonable price for the quality, Great service. Not so far from Colmar city, giant Carrefour on the corner.

We had stayed in a B&B in Konstanz on the way down and were hoping for a similar experience here, but we were left a little disappointed. The room (115) was fine, apart from the curtain hanging partly off the rails (I fixed this myself) and radiator hanging off the wall, but for the price we paid (129 euro for four people for one night) we got what we needed, which was a room with comfortable beds, WIFI, a shower, a good night sleep, and a decent breakfast. The staff were friendly and helpful. If you're looking for a little more luxury, and not a basic stay, look elsewhere, but for one night it was fine. Despite the two completely different experiences in a B&B hotel, I would consider booking again for the value for money.

A really good budget hotel. The rooms were tiny but it did not effect us much, I assume it will be annoying if you want to stay multiple days or have a lot of luggage. The AC and the internet were great. The breakfast was satisfactory as well. The bathrooms can use a renovation, they seemed a bit old. Besides that we were satisfied with our stay.

good Price for what you get in a Region where most hotels are way more expensive. located outside colmar centre, bus brings you there in 20 minutes. rooms are small, no flair, but clean and quiet. a hair drier would have been nice.
Smruti Sahoo★★☆☆☆
The cleanliness of the bathroom was a major disappointment. There was a strong, unpleasant odor, both the sink and shower drains were clogged, and the shower curtain was dirty. Furthermore, the mattress on the master bed dipped significantly on one side. The hotel lacks an elevator, and staff provided no assistance with carrying heavy suitcases up to the second floor. Lastly, the breakfast options were extremely limited compared to standard hotel offerings. There were no vegetables or salads, no boiled eggs, no chicken, and virtually no fruit aside from a few old apples.
GEORGE LASEOS★★★☆☆
A budget accommodation option. The staff were polite and friendly. The rooms were not very warm and had a smell of cigarette smoke. Overall, for the price it is acceptable, but it is not a place for a comfortable or enjoyable stay. Suitable if you just need a place to sleep and leave

Very decent place to stay, especially on the route (simple, small but clean rooms),people are nice and helpful,we were able to check in late, breakfast also tasty, good coffee and fresh orange juice.

It looks like a hotel for a quick stop, it’s okay if you have to stay there for 1 or max. 2 nights. 👎🏻The room was quite clean but a bit noisy. The bathroom was small and uncomfortable. We found only one plug in the room to charge our phones, and that was kinda annoying. 👍🏻Pros are the free parking and the position of the hotel, which is near to a Lidl supermarket and several shops. Plus, it’s 15 minutes away from Colmar by car

Honestly its just a basic hotel for a 1 night stop over, nothing more. The room was clean, minus the bug on the pillow when we walked in! Decent size room but still dated. Only one plug in the whole room. The worst part honestly was the bathroom, even though it was clean it felt like being in side of a Porta Potty/ Porta Loos. Staff were helpful and friendly, they did call me to let me know since I was checkin in late what time the dealer closed.
Edwin Varne★☆☆☆☆
Well... It might be acceptable for those who don't know better... No, who am I kidding ? Let's try to be as objective as possible : it is quite close to Colmar (but not close enough to go on foot, anyway...). And it is good for shopping since there are some shops nearby (but usually, if you want to go shopping, I don't see why you would be there anyway...). The staff we met seemed to be nice, I can recognize that. But well... if this is your thing, then i suppose you don't mind having a room with ONE available power outlet, extra thin walls, and a plastic bathroom cabin with (sometimes) a toilet that doesn't stop flowing until you fiddle with it... But at least you have your own bathroom. The breakfast wasn't tasting bad. But hope you don't like having too much choice. For 5,50 € per person, you'd rather buy something you like in a shop. There certainly are more comfortable hotels with more options nearby, , which wouldn't be that much more expensive, so... might be a better idea. Now, if you don't mind all that, I'd suppose I'd tell you to go ahead if you want... but if you need to be a bit comfortable, then I'd think you should go for something else.

Its a simple but adequate hotel for the money.. I've stayed in this range of hotel many times and knew what to expect.. Comfortable clean bed..hot shower and simple amenities.. Breakfast was included in the price and again simple selection on offer but enough to keep going... The staff were friendly and helpful and very welcoming... For me as a solo traveller it meets my needs... But simply... you get what you pay for... And it's location near a variety of shops and restaurants is a plus... McDonalds and KFC within walking distance..

Very basic motel. Rooms were ok. Toilets were clean.
Cherif Abdel Ghaffar★☆☆☆☆
The check in process was not as smooth as smooth expected as I had to argue with the receptionist about the breakfast wether it is included or not although the confirmation stated clearly that it was paid, but he was not convinced. The room space is very small and cannot accommodate 3 adults comfortably as states in their advertisement. The level of cleanness is very poor. The beds were covered with breadcrumbs and hair. At the end we stayed for only one night and checked out the next morning. Although I did not stay the full booked period, the hotel refused to refund the remainig night. Worst place ever.
Vince Earley★☆☆☆☆
Excellent location close to the motorway but thats where the good news stops ! The hotel is on a shopping complex estate with Lidls close by. The rooms are cramped and the shower toilet area is a plastic pod type area. My tip is get here as early as you can to get a parking space because the place is taken over by tradesmen and their vans in the late afternoon. The breakfast is adequate.

Easy to reach. Good value for money. Good connection with the main road. The rooms are simple but ok. The worst the bathroom which was tiny and got all wet when you take a shower. They don't have couple beds they just put together two single ones.

For French standards, this is an inexpensive hotel, and the price reflects the quality. During our road trip, we stayed at seven different Ibis Budget hotels, and in many cases the quality exceeded our expectations for the price. Breakfast was very good, although it was practically the same in every hotel. It would have been nice to see a few local specialties or regional variations 🙂 The hotel has its own parking lot, and we had no trouble finding a parking space. The accommodation was comfortable and perfectly adequate. There are no wardrobes in the rooms, but there are plenty of hangers and shelves instead. The room had a working air conditioner, a private toilet+shower. 🚽🚿 The toilet is separate, while the shower is located in a small enclosed cubicle (almost like a wardrobe), the sink and mirror in the room itself. 🚶‍♀️5min walk from the old city centre.

School trip, rooms for 3. Never again. ⭐ (1/5) We stayed here as a school class, about 30 people, rooms booked for 3 each. The room itself: a double bed plus a single bed on a loft frame above it, so bed-wise, 3 people technically fit. But that's about it – no closet, no shelf, nowhere to put anything. Two suitcases on the floor and the room is already full, no room to unpack, barely room to move, let alone actually live in there as three people. The room smelled bad the moment we opened the door, like a mix of urine, sewage and rotten eggs. I found hairs in my bed that weren't mine, and the shower had mold in it. Others from our group told us they found bed bugs in their room – not in ours, to be fair, but that didn't exactly make us sleep better. The sink isn't even in a bathroom, it just stands in the room, and it's cracked and chipped (photos attached). The toilet is a plastic cubicle like on a train and the door doesn't lock. The shower glass is supposed to be frosted but has clear spots you can see through. So privacy is basically zero, with 3 people per room. Our room door in particular squeaked so loud it woke everyone up every time someone went out. Plus there's a construction site directly across the street, jackhammers and trucks all day. About the deposit: yes, a few people from our group (maybe 4 out of 30) were too loud one night, that's on them. But the hotel then wanted to keep 30% of the deposit from every single one of us. Our teacher got it down to 10% – mainly by pointing out the state of the rooms we all had. Punishing the whole group for a handful of people, in rooms like these, just felt wrong. I get that it's a budget hotel. But clean beds and rooms where the booked number of people actually fits should be the minimum.*

I had a great stay at the ibis budget Colmar. The staff are very kind, welcoming, and always pleasant. The rooms are clean, well-maintained, and comfortable. The hotel is quiet and cozy. Breakfast is excellent, offering a good variety of quality products to start the day right. Thanks to the whole team for the warm welcome—I would happily recommend this hotel!

26/27 June 2026 - We spent one night in June 2026 on our motoring holiday. The hotel was centrally located and we enjoyed the evening out in this small but perfectly formed town. Also enjoyed a few beers and football at a French/Irish Pub !!O'Rabbit's Irish Pub - where the Jovial landlord would comeout and celebrate everyone France scored.
Daphne Stam★☆☆☆☆
A very bad experience overall. The room was extremely small, but that wasn’t even the main issue. The mattress had deep dents, making sleep absolutely unbearable. Breakfast was a truly unpleasant surprise. Spoiled cheese was being served, and the eggs in the egg boiler were mistakenly undercooked—guests would take them, only to realize after cracking them that they were completely raw. Handling raw eggs with a risk of salmonella while also touching your bread was simply disgusting.

We had a wonderful stay at Hôtel du Ladhof. From the moment we arrived, we received a very warm and genuine welcome from Louis at the reception. He personally escorted us to our room and clearly explained all the facilities, which immediately made us feel comfortable. Breakfast the next morning was lovely — a simple and authentic French breakfast, well prepared and enjoyable. What truly made this place special for us was learning about its history. Louis kindly shared how this hotel has been run by the same family for generations, starting from his great-grandfather, then his grandmother, and now continuing through the family. You can genuinely feel those family values and warmth here — something that is rare today. While it may not compete with large corporate hotels in terms of modern luxury, it offers something far more meaningful: authenticity, care, and a true family atmosphere. That made our stay emotionally special and memorable. The location is also convenient and peaceful. Overall, a very pleasant experience with real hospitality. We would happily recommend this place to anyone who values warmth, history, and genuine service.

Cheap? Cheap! Good? Cheap... We needed one night sleepover during long trip, it was sufficient for the price. Host was super friendly!

The rooms were small (we had 1x double and 1x twin) and internet access was very patchy (coming and going), but the rooms were clean and warm. We were greeted warmly when we arrived. We close not to have our rooms serviced, but it was offered. This pace is old, but serviceable.

Liz Escobar-Jack★★★☆☆
PROS: After reading various reviews, we knew more or less what to expect so no surprises there. Amongst the things we liked about this hotel is the friendliness of the staff, the two gentleman that run the hotel are pleasant and helpful. The hotel really sticks to the checking times! so be mindful of your arrival, no late check in's if you arrive after 9pm. Room was clean, radiator worked very well, windows do open, hot / cold water run well, decent towels supplies (2 people), basic mini soap bars and shampoo/soap combined mini pack, paper cups and 2 toilet papers. Premises are kept clean, location of the hotel to center of town convenient about 20m via bus (be mindful of first and last bus out to/from designated close-by bus stop times schedule) otherwise you will have to walk 30m to nearest next bus stop, or wait for an Uber availability, quite long in my opinion. Cost to town in Uber was 21 Euros, Cost in Bolt 17 euros, may vary of time of day or season). Fair communication from the hotel if questions are sent via Booking.com. Price of per night was moderate considering the area and distance to town. Our room was switched from a large single bed room to a three single beds and wouldn't be switched or accommodated as per hotels note is within their disclaimer. My husband and I just had to sleep in separate beds, mattress are worn out and made a lot of noise when turning. We would stay in this hotel if there are no other options available as we already know how it operates and we felt safe. CONS: Although there was a breakfast option (self paid) it is limited to a single croissant per person and several other slices of dry bread. One glass of orange juice, coffee/tea/hot chocolate option, limited cereal and plain yogurt options available, one type of fruit (mandarins in our case). No additional croissants given as they only order for the amount of guests signed to get breakfast on the day. If you are lucky (which we weren't maybe a guest doesn't show up for breakfast and you can get that croissant but you will have to be the last one in the dinning room to get it.) Breakfast is from 7:30-9:30 so be on time (10 euros per person). Nice, clean, spacious dining room. TRANSPORT: Be mindful of the bus schedules as if coming back to the hotel after last bus (about 5:30pm) you will have to walk from the closest bus last stop, 30m or so. Wouldn't recommended even if you don't mind the walk, but at night and no sidewalk, it's a busy dark road and you will need reflector gear so drivers can see you to avoid being hit by a car. May be different in summer time but since we went in December, that's our experience. SUGGESTION: Hotel is no frills so don't expect much comfort or convenience. My recommendation would be for the hotel to at least offer filtered water station or jar, or even run a water vending machine. We asked for water at breakfast and basically was from the tap to the table, no filtration system so be mindful to get your own bottled water, no water bottles for sale option either. The hotel can use additional option for snacks vending machine and also make a little profit and guests convenience. SPACE: Don't expect too much room in the bathroom, tight shower and very close to the toilet so you have to angle yourself right LOL. The hotel is close to the main road so expect car traveling noise though out the night, if you are a lite sleeper bring earplugs and eye mask for headlights lighting up your room. No elevator so expect some flights of stairs, original wood floors so expect lots of walking noise and walls are somehow thin, hear furniture moving/chats.

Super clean room and quiet. The AC was wonderful given the heat of summer. Also the receptionist was super friendly! Also, Google maps told us we are 40-50 minutes walk from the city center. Nope, more like 30 (edge of city center) because it does not see the zebra over the roundabout and it sends you the long way round. We walked it at night and it was pretty safe (would not do it alone as a woman but together with a guy is all good). If you prefer an Uber tho, it was 8 euros for us going to the center.

Very disappointing experience so far. We are currently staying in room 319, and the room has a very strong smell of damp and humidity, especially in the bathroom. The smell is so intense that it is extremely uncomfortable to stay here, particularly with our two very young children, aged 1 and 3. We have contacted reception twice and asked to change rooms, but we were simply told that there are no other rooms available. Unfortunately, no alternative solution was offered. We paid €100 for this room, and we find the situation unacceptable. We understand that the hotel may be fully booked, but we expected at least some effort to find a solution, especially when travelling with very young children. We are still staying here tonight, and unfortunately our experience so far has been very disappointing, both because of the condition of the room and the lack of customer service.

Good hotel on outskirts of Colmar, clean room of decent size, individual AC work excellent, location is 10 minutes by bus D, busstop is 5 minutes walk. It’s convenient to have a microwave where you can warm up carrefour traiteur meals if you’re on a budget, breakfast was basic, staff very friendly

To avoid. The room itself was clean enough and simple, small but fair for the price. The horrible experience comes from the staff of the hotel. We've booked (and paid) the room from their website: one room for 2 adults and 4 dogs, and there were no indications about supplements for the dogs. So, a couple of days before our arrival, we sent an email to the hotel asking for confirmation and highlighting the fact that we had 4 dogs with us. At the moment of the check in they told us that we had to pay more for dogs supplements, I replied that we already paid the room online and there were no indication about dogs supplements anywhere and neither they told us in the confirmation emails. The reply of the receptionist was "we didn't read the email right or we would have told you that 4 dogs are not even allowed". Excuse me? My bad for thinking that if you reply to my email you should have at least read it. I understand asking for dogs supplements, but it should be specified in advance and surely it's the staff's duty to read and reply correctly to the customer's email. In which world I have to pay because you didn't do your work correctly? Also half of the staff doesn't even speak English and we better not talk about the dinner, which was the most mediocre buffet I've ever seen. I'm not used to leave bad reviews but I'm also not used to mean and rude staff. Making mistakes is human but at least saying sorry and trying to fix it should be the base of politeness, especially when working with the public. This place is a big no thanks for me.
Nebil Allam★☆☆☆☆
For starters apparently reserving a room on a christmas day is somewhat surprising to them since there was no one at the hotel like literally it was a ghost town. When you call the responsible(!) person he speaks french and very little english. Lets say you somehow communicated with the guy and he tells you that he will come around 2 PM and you wait till 2PM and the guy is still missing! You then call the guy and HE IS SLEEPING IN ONE OF THE ROOMS AND COMES DOWN LIKE NOTHING HAS HAPPENED WITH SLIPPERS AND ACTS LIKE IT IS COMPLETELY NORMAL TO LET 3-4 CUSTOMERS WAIT. When you confront the guy about this situation he proceeds to tell you that it is a holiday for him and tells that he is not responsible for this situation. Overall avoid this establishment and give couple of more bucks and stay in a decent place in fact if you have no choice stay in your car or crash in airport right next to this so called hotel. I really hope that I wont see that guys face for rest of my life ever again. I hope this message finds you before I ever find you again my dude.

We have used Campanile hotels and their restaurants several times before. However this is the 2nd one that has had a shockingly bad restaurant. On arrival of this one The restaurant was empty, bad sign. No food available except snack food. Hugely disappointed, we were recommended to the cottage pie and salad. It was awful, I have had better ones frozen from a supermarket. When it arrived it was hot on the outside and freezing cold on the inside. He reheated it and came back dried out. We ordered lemon syrup and water, one each but he forgot to put lemon syrup in one, just plain water. We were not offered bread had to ask for it. There are plenty of other restaurants in the area. I recommend you choose another one, not this one.

We were satisfied with our stay at Campanile. The staff is very friendly. If you need a place to sleep it's great, but don't expect much more. And the area has its own Statue of Liberty (who needs NYC?). The room is small for 2 people to walk around and have their luggage, and there could be better insulation to avoid bugs from coming in and hiding in small holes.

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights and in my opinion it's an excellent deal! The room was very comfortable and had all the necessities one might need plus thebed was very comfortable! The hotel has a big parking lot which is a plus! I have to point out though that the walls are very thin and you can hear your neighbours if they make noises. We also had breakfast at the restaurant for 11€ per person per day. Not bad, but the salty options were very limited( eg. No eggs, just a type of cheese and a couple of ham slices) . Overall very good tho!

We stayed here for one night with family and had a very pleasant experience. The hotel is conveniently located just a 6-minute drive from the city center. Our rooms were spacious and the staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. The only minor issue was the shower design; the glass partition is a bit too small, which meant water easily splashed onto the bathroom floor despite our best efforts. Overall, a great stay, but a slight adjustment to the shower fixtures would make it perfect.

The hotel is located on the outskirts of the main attractions, in an industrial area, but it offers a reasonable number of parking spaces, making it suitable for self-driving travelers. The hotel features a modern design, and the front desk staff are warm and friendly, providing clear and detailed explanations. The room is quite spacious, and the bathroom is also generously sized. It was a pleasant surprise to find that the shower offers multiple pressure settings, a feature that is not commonly seen even in more expensive hotels, showing the attention to detail and care put into this property. The bed is very comfortable, and cleanliness is impeccable, leaving nothing to complain about. The only downside is that the Wi-Fi connection is not very stable, which is a minor drawback. Overall, this hotel offers excellent value for money and raises the standard for budget hotels.

Great hotel just outside Colmar. A lot of parking and super friendly staff. You can also reach restaurants and groceries shops by foot. Also they accept dogs with just 8 euro more per night Only missing thing: no fridge in the room 🙁

An amazing choice for a budget stay in Colmar! I wouldn't say it's a walking distance to the city, so it's better if you have a car. However, the staff (especially the lady receptionist) is lovely. Further, the beds are nice and comfortable, the rooms are clean and quiet, and they give you complementary water, coffee and tea! They have a parking they secure at night with a gate, and an electrical vehicle charging station.

This is a charming, good value and well-located hotel for exploring the beautiful city of Colmar (on foot) and the wider Alsace wine region (driving). The welcome and service from the team is exceptionally warm & helpful (a slightly early check-in was very welcome in the aftermath of the canicule). Breakfast is great, too. Free parking is also provided, and I managed to fit my small campervan in easily. Thanks for a great stay!

Highly recommended, both as a place to break up a long drive, and for a visit to Colmar. We stayed one night, passing through. Excellent chargers on site for EVs. The walk in to town isn't pretty but only 10mins or so, and the centre is stunning. The hotel doesn't look special from outside, but the rooms have been modernised well, it's spotlessly clean, comfortable, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast buffet, too. Sensibly priced so making a great choice.

Terrible experience at Arc en Ciel Colmar! The owners are rude and ignorant! The rooms are not how you see in the pictures, it’s very small, old and dark! If you go there during summer you will melt! I was feeling sick and my dog was suffocating so we had to leave, asked for a refund at least of the second night as we were leaving due to tue lack of conditions in their hotel. They only think about money and not about the wellbeing of their guests! Better stay at the B&B hotel nearby!!!!! Better and cheaper

Very beautiful and quiet location, approximately 15-20 minutes from city centre by walking and very close to a bus stop to the centre and to the train station. Friendly people, cozy atmosphere, very rich and delicious breakfast with local goods. They were very kind and they also treated us local chocolate, and hot wine. Your hospitality made our trip to Colmar even more exciting. Thank you for our wonderful experience, have a great and meaningful year!

The hotel was good value for the price. The lady at check-in was very kind and welcoming. The bed was really comfortable, with excellent pillows, and although the room was small, it was quite sweet. The walls are a little thin, and you can practically hear everything, but for 2 nights that was not really a problem for us. The overall the building is not very nice, but you can see they put in a lot of effort to make it welcoming and cute.

Excellent location and a truly wonderful stay! The absolute highlight for us was the breakfast. They serve incredible, traditional French bread that was still warm and fresh-baked when we had it. Absolutely delicious! Whether they bake it on-site or source it from a top-tier local bakery, the quality is outstanding. Forgot to say they also have espresso machine, hot chocolate, mocha , espresso, latte , etc. Just a quick tip for future guests: if your room is in the attic, be prepared for a very narrow corridor and narrow stairs. It's charming, but something to keep in mind if you have heavy luggage! Highly recommend overall.

At other times of the year, I would give this hotel a 5-star review. It has an amazing atmosphere, friendly staff, a great breakfast, clean rooms, and it's located in the perfect location. However, we stayed there at the end of May. It was extremely hot (32 C) and the air conditioning hadn't been turned on for the summer yet. The heat made it very unpleasant to come back to the hotel. So as lovely as the hotel could have been, we really couldn't enjoy it and we heard several other guests say the same thing. Also disappointing was the hotel's response when we asked about it. We asked two different staff members. The first told us that they needed to get their air conditioning serviced before they can turn it on for the year. This is understandable but since we all know it gets hot during May, they really should get it serviced earlier so that they're ready rather than pretending to be surprised every May. The second person we asked told us that air conditioning isn't used in France before June, which obviously isn't true. Overall, it came across like they're just trying to save a bit of money at the expense of their customers' comfort. If they had allowed us to use the fan from the air conditioning system or even if they had just apologized, I wouldn't be publicly criticizing them. But the lack of A/C really took away from our stay and the hotel staff just seemed to dismiss our concerns, albeit cheerfully. So if you want to stay there when it isn't hot or when the air conditioning is working, this hotel is 5/5. But if it's hot and they haven't turned on the air conditioning yet, I would definitely stay somewhere else. The convenience of the location isn't worth the discomfort.

Fantastic hotel right in the center of old town of Colmar. Shop, bars, restaurants, atm and cafes surrounding you as you step out the front door. All the staff I met were very polite, friendly and attentive especially the main hostess lady on reception who explained everything and gave me a map, made recommendations and kept my bags while I explored further after checkout. The hotel has a warmly decorated vibe set in an old building. Breakfast was lovely. The room beautifully designed with comfortable beds , good space. Definitely come back someday and highly recommend.

This hotel's location is unbeatable for a weekend in Colmar! Walkable everywhere, easy walk from the Saint-Josse car park (€3 for 24hrs) and right in the thick of the action and colourful houses. However the hotel overall is a bit tired (although to be fair the walls are around 500 years old!). Common rooms are dated, and feel unloved. Our bedroom was on the third floor with no lift - a good workout and great view of rooftops. It was spacious but dated. Bed was comfortable, shower hot. Our sink was blocked and staff did address that swiftly. Breakfast was ok - a tricky room layout means ppl queue for hot drinks and plates. Pastries were on the well-done side and there was a limited selection of fruit. On balance we would stay again due to the location and comfortable room. But a bit of an interior refresh would do wonders to common areas.

I made a date error while booking the hotel, a week later than needed. This was discovered upon arrival on the same day as the booking. Upon arrival, the staff requested I paid for 2 additional nights, and subsequently refused to reimburse the 2 erroneous booked days, blaming hotels.com for their inability to cancel. When contacting hotels.com for reimbursement, cancellation I'm informed it can only happen with approval of the hotel. When I was there, the hotel staff lied by informing me they had never been contacted by hotels.com, and subsequently after my departure, refused to reimburse the erroneous booking, thus pocketing the money from the 2 additional nights. I find the behavior incredibly dishonest and without any understanding or service mindedness. Generally, the location is decent, while the hotel is quite worn down, and the breakfast buffet is absolute horrendous.

Essential Tips for Booking Cheap Hotels in Colmar

Securing a budget room in Colmar requires a bit of strategy, as prices fluctuate dramatically based on the season and local events. The city is a year-round destination, but the cost of accommodation can triple during the peak periods of summer and the famous Christmas markets. By planning ahead and utilizing local knowledge, you can navigate the market like a savvy traveler and lock in a rate that protects your travel budget.

Book Extremely Early for December: The Colmar Christmas markets are world-famous, and budget rooms sell out months in advance. If you plan to visit between late November and late December, start looking for rooms in the summer. Waiting until autumn usually means facing either exorbitant prices or having to stay in nearby towns like Selestat or Turckheim.

Travel in the Shoulder Season: The best time to find cheap rates is during April, May, and October. The weather is generally pleasant for walking and cycling the wine routes, but the tourist crowds are significantly thinner than in summer. During these months, you can often find premium rooms at budget prices.

Stay Just Outside the Center: Colmar is a very walkable city, and the surrounding neighborhoods are quiet and safe. Look for hotels near the train station (Gare de Colmar) or slightly outside the ring road. You will often pay half the price of a hotel located directly on the Rue des Marchands, while remaining only a 10 to 15-minute walk from the main attractions.

Look for "Logis" or "Gîtes" Designations: Instead of only searching for international budget chains, look for local brands like "Logis Hôtels" or smaller guesthouses. These are often family-owned, offering free parking and homemade breakfasts. They provide a more authentic experience and often undercut the big chains on price while offering superior hospitality.

Utilize the Free Public Transport: If you stay a bit further out, check if your hotel is on the "Trace" bus network route. Some cheaper hotels located in the outskirts offer free shuttle access or are located near bus stops that take you directly to the city center. This saves you from paying for parking in the old town, which can be quite expensive.

Check for the "Alsace Pass": Some budget hotels partner with the local tourist office to offer the Alsace Pass. This pass often grants free entry to museums, castles, and sometimes includes discounts on wine tasting. If your cheap hotel offers this as a package deal, it can save you a significant amount of money on sightseeing, making your overall trip much more economical.

Once you have secured your accommodation, you can rest easy knowing you have more money to spend on the local gastronomy. Colmar is a city best experienced slowly, wandering through the cobblestone lanes and stopping for a glass of Gewürztraminer. Staying in a budget hotel simply means you are smart about your finances, allowing you to extend your stay a little longer.

The true value of a trip to Colmar lies in the atmosphere, not the thread count of your sheets. By choosing one of the affordable options listed above and following our booking strategies, you ensure that your journey to the heart of Alsace is both magical and financially sensible.
