12 Best Asian Restaurants in Aix-en-Provence

Aix-en-Provence may be famous for its sun-drenched markets, Cézanne’s studio, and elegant cours Mirabeau, but its dining scene tells an equally compelling story. While Provençal cuisine dominates many menus, the city has quietly become a hub for exceptional pan-Asian cooking. From delicate Japanese sushi to fragrant Vietnamese pho and fiery Sichuan specialties, the options are remarkably diverse.

For locals and visitors alike, finding a meal that breaks away from traditional French fare can be a welcome change of pace. The demand for fresh, flavorful, and authentic Asian food has grown steadily, and Aix’s restaurateurs have risen to the occasion. Whether you are craving a quick bowl of ramen or a leisurely Thai curry, the city delivers.

The challenge, of course, is knowing which establishments truly stand out in a crowded market. Quality varies widely, and a restaurant that excels at sushi may not necessarily master the art of Thai stir-fry. That is why we have done the legwork for you, evaluating kitchens based on ingredient freshness, consistency, and atmosphere.

In this guide, we focus on the very best Asian restaurants Aix-en-Provence has to offer. We have considered not only the authenticity of the recipes but also the overall dining experience, including service and value for money. Each recommendation has been selected to help you avoid tourist traps and eat like a local.

Whether you live in the Bouches-du-Rhône or are just passing through on a Provençal road trip, this list will point you in the right direction. We have included a range of price points and cuisines, from casual lunch counters to elegant dinner destinations. All you need to bring is your appetite.

Below, you will find our curated selection of the 12 best Asian restaurants in Aix-en-Provence.

We were highly recommended this Thai restaurant by an AI website, and what a great recommendation it turned out to be! Phatsara is a family-owned and operated restaurant within walking distance of our hotel in the center of Aix-en-Provence. I believe you can tell a great Thai restaurant by how good their Pad Thai is—and Phatsara definitely didn’t disappoint. In fact, I can honestly say that I had the best Pad Thai I have ever eaten right here in Aix-en-Provence! The noodles were perfectly cooked, the sauce was beautifully seasoned, and there was plenty of chicken and tofu. The sauce wasn’t overly heavy, and the balance of sweetness and spice was just right. Their garlic fried rice was also outstanding. As a Filipino, I know good garlic fried rice when I taste it, and I have to say that Phatsara’s was better than any garlic fried rice I’ve had at a Filipino restaurant! That is quite a compliment. The only dish that didn’t quite meet my expectations was the Green Curry with Thai Basil. The vegetables and shrimp were a little more cooked than I prefer. That said, the dish was still flavorful. The service was excellent—warm, friendly, attentive, and very helpful. Phatsara was a wonderful find, and we’re so glad we discovered it! If you’re in Aix-en-Provence and enjoy Thai food, I highly recommend giving it a try.

We came here for a friend’s birthday and it was amazing! The food is incredible and they are very knowledgeable and accommodating with vegan options (3/5 of our group are vegan). Many dishes can be made vegan and they even have vegan fish sauce. The staff is also super kind and speak English and French. The cherry on top is the dishes and bowls are super cute! Great cocktails as well ! We had a great experience, will definitely be back next time we’re in Aix 🙂

Had a wonderful dining experience in this authentic Thai restaurant run by a friendly & humble family. Truly a gem hidden in one of the streets in Aix-En Provence. We were greeted with a warm welcome the moment we stepped into the restaurant, seated comfortably and served with water even without asking. Food was very good, authentic Thai dishes especially the Soft Shell Crab Curry, even better than the ones we had in Bangkok! A must-have dish! Extremely happy that we found Phatsara!!!

I got the Thai bubble tea, the Bánh Mì with porc xá xíu and the piggy bao. The Thai drink was absolutely delicious. It was creamy and soft, not too heavy for a hot weather at all and the tapioca was the right amount of chewiness. I took it in Medium but they are generous with the size. So far, it’s the best price I’ve seen at Aix En Provence for bubble tea. The Sandwich was really good. It’s very authentic and fresh (even though it’s hot). And the dessert is soft and chewy with the right amount of English cream filling inside. I’m definitely coming back for the atmosphere, the prices, the food and for the workers. They were very sweet.

We ran into this cutie little Vietnamese restaurant by chance at lunch. We didn’t expect that true Vietnamese food as per our previous experience in other restaurants in Europe. However it was really delightful that the foods were delicious with truly Vietnamese taste and the owner is really nice and warmly welcomed us with her smile. The portions were really big for us as Vietnamese 😊

Great place with great atmosphere. The food was good. Can’t say it’s the best Asian restaurant but it’s definitely worth visiting. It’s got nice design, good and fast service.

Our sushi and drinks were excellent! Our service was really good too! Houris was our server and she gave great recommendations! My husband loved his Erwan sour whiskey drink. I had the special of the day which was really good too!

Had the best dining experience with family!!! Beautiful ambience , absolutely delicious food and Our host Houria was so gracious and hosted us with so much love and spent time explaining all the dishes on the menu to my daughter with a bonus French lesson as well 😀 !!! We were accommodated without reservation inspite of a busy day at the restaurant by Fred !!! Erwin , Guillaume and Houria for giving us a beautiful night in aix de Provence

It felt like authentic japanese food! (Perhaps it actually was). Good prices, fast service and an extremely good bar and decoration. Sitting on the bar watching the chefs cook was an additional delight I was not expecting. Absolutely recommended!
Goran Bronisch★★★★☆
Well, this is a difficult recommendation because our impression of this beautiful restaurant shifted basically shifted from minute to minute. When we came in without a reservation, we were told to just wait a moment until we get seated Basically that moment lasted at least 15 to 20 minutes. Nobody talk to us we just stood in the first room of the restaurant and had the impression, that nobody really cared that much about us. We then went to the bar and had some drinks. Even then it took at least another 10 minutes until somebody told us that we could have a table for two. That table was more or less in the hallway, even though many other tables were without guests and in a much better position in the restaurant. We then changed to the bar/chef’s table and ordered our food there. You have the impression that the servers was stressed and unwilling. The food was excellent so you have to give this restaurant credit where credit is due. The cocktails were fabulous. There was no evident reason for the beginning of this evening to be so uncomfortable and weird. It is a recommendation, but still with a small black spot to it.

The food was excellent and plenty. The staff were very nice and attentive. I took one star off because we had to wait very long for our food to arrive. Drinks very great though and we enjoyed the atmosphere of a French summer evening, accompanied by life music.

We had a great meal here. We wanted some southeast Asian food to break the French cuisine cycle. Very welcoming friendly staff. My wife's chicken pad thai was delicious and so was my vermicelli beef dish. The spring roll entrées were great too. Overall a very nice dining experience! We recommend this spot.

Thai Corner was one of the best meals we’ve had in Aix-en-Provence! The food was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Beyond the food, the service (including from our waiter Pierrique) was so warm and welcoming! The staff made us feel genuinely cared for from the moment we arrived. The atmosphere is cozy, relaxed, and charming - the kind of place you want to stay at for hours. If you’re in Aix and craving amazing Thai food, this place is an absolute must. We’ll definitely be coming back next time we’re in Provence!

I am so impressed by this lovely place who specializes in the fusion cuisine between Chinese and French. The chef and the owner are so passionate about food and wine. What surprised me is they also sell Chinese wine where you can find nowhere in other place. This my first time drinking tea wine!(lovely and easy drinking, great summer drink!) The food I love most of the shrimp soup with zucchini flower(also stuffed with shrimp). The cod and slow cooked beef is also a must try. This place definitely worth a second visit!

We enjoyed a fantastic birthday lunch. Food was diverse, unexpected, delicious and abundant. Service was perfect, the waitress extremely attentive to our questions; she gave us detailed and trusworthy answer. We will for sure come back next time we visit the city.
Dong Hsu★★★★★
This is not your typical Chinese restaurant although they do serve traditional Chinese dishes. However, we did not choose their regular dishes. What we had was their 7-course set menu. We were blown away by the entire experience. The restaurant designed the dishes based on the selection of food from each season so they will change the menu every three months. Every dish is cooked in Chinese way but with French twist. The presentation was super. If this restaurant were located in New York City, I probably won’t be able to book a table easily. A truly hidden gem in Aix-en-Provence. I wish everyone gives it a try. I will definitely come back when I am in town again. Bravo!!!
Celine Y★☆☆☆☆
The meal began with a strange sense of disconnection. I had already chosen my set, read the menu carefully, and clearly told her what I wanted, yet the staff insisted on unnecessary explanations, ignoring my pace and preferences. The experience felt more like watching a performance than being served as a guest. It felt like she had memorized the dish descriptions with great effort and was so focused on reciting them without making a mistake that she couldn’t actually hear anything I was saying — just delivering a monologue. When I later told her which menu I had chosen, she said yes and nodded as if she understood, but clearly hadn’t retained it. The menu changes periodically, so don’t expect the same dishes you may have seen on Google or social media — it’s worth knowing this in advance. The price point suggests fine dining, but the portions were extremely small — to the point of feeling stingy rather than refined. The real issue was the service. After asking where I was from and learning I was heading to Provence, the server launched into a dismissive commentary: calling the region “just farmland full of bees” and remarking that “everyone’s going north now because it’s too hot.” These comments were not only unsolicited, but also remarkably tone-deaf — especially from someone in hospitality. After I had just finished the main course — and was still waiting for dessert — the server commented that I “must have a good appetite,” in a tone that felt subtly judgmental. I responded politely by complimenting the food, but she didn’t acknowledge it and simply walked away — as if her job were to evaluate customers rather than host them. She later brought me a palate cleanser and added, rather oddly, that it was “to freshen your mouth,” which struck me more as a veiled jab than any genuine thoughtfulness. I’ve never heard anyone say that. That’s way too harsh. Frankly, I think she might be the one who could benefit from eating a bit more herself. Also, the ice cream was so sour it was uncomfortable. As a Chinese guest, I also found the concept of presenting Chinese cuisine in a Michelin-style tasting menu rather confusing. While the fusion of flavors was handled with some finesse, the overall positioning felt off — more like a marketing gimmick than a sincere culinary expression. One dish was described as having “Guizhou flavors,” but it simply tasted spicy — and having eaten widely across China, I found nothing uniquely Guizhou about it. Spice alone does not represent regional depth. The Peking duck lacked authenticity, and the chicken soup tasted more like a ready-made supermarket product than a patiently simmered broth. At this price point, I expected a much higher standard. The cod dish, however, was excellent — by far the best part of the meal The portion size isn’t just my concern—other customers also found it too small. As a petite woman, I finished everything, yet was told I “must have a good appetite.” Instead of addressing the issue, the staff just judged me. They never talked about portion size at all. The repeated remarks that “Provence is just farmland full of bees” and “everyone is heading north” were not helpful or friendly, but dismissive of why so many people—including myself—choose to visit Provence. As a guest who traveled here for the lavender and sunshine, these comments felt like constant criticism and belittling of our choices. No matter the explanation, only those present can truly sense the intent. I was the one who brought up the bee safety issue, not her. When I mentioned that I shouldn’t wear perfume in lavender fields, she was left speechless—which showed she only knew how to put people down, not communicate. I’m not a picky guest and am usually happy to support fellow Chinese, but her constant criticism and controlling attitude made the whole experience uncomfortable. She mocked me for finishing fried noodles that weren’t even on the menu, even though she now secretly serves a dish she used to tell customers to go elsewhere for.
Radu R★★★★★
This is a newly opened restaurant in Aix and it is mind blowing. The first experience was awesome. Firstly I have had for the first time Chinese white wine, they do have an amazing selection to offer. The food is delicious cooked in a special manner. We tried a beef starter and a pork main dish all wonderful. I look forward to come back here . Forgot to mention the impeccable and warm service .

I lived two years in China before going back to south of France. I never properly found a restaurant competing with proper Chinese restaurant until I came across Super dragon Dan Dan mien. I'm vegetarian and very picky, but I found exactly the taste I'm expecting from a restaurant making central Chinese food. Spicy enough, lots of vegetables, and fresh noodles. Adding to this the owners are very friendly and not shy to speak either in English or Chinese or French. Price are affordable and I surely will come back to try their desserts.

Located on a street where majority selling Asian food, just opposite a drinking bar. It’s a big restaurant that can fit lots of people at the same time. Vietnamese style food, with hot pot and grill, options of rice and noodles as well as vegetarian or vegan dishes. Food taste good for being in this area but for Asian travelers please don’t expect the authenticity and the spices kick.

Every time we come here we are really satisfied about the food and atmosphere. The owners are very professional. You should consider to book a table before going there because it is usually super crowded. There are not many restaurants in Aix offering hot-pot and Korean BBQ. So i recommend this place.
Ashley★★★★☆
You can eat traditional (where you are served the food) or you can eat BBQ style (where you order meat and cook it yourself). The food is delicious and the service is fantastic. The servers are really nice and polite. I had the chicken curry with rice and the entrée was spring rolls, salad and shrimp. For desert I recommend the exotic sorbet that had fresh mango on top. Amazing! Pricing is pretty fair for what your getting, especially because the entree is enormous and you really have to share it with someone or someones, even. Nice and calm atmosphere. I really recommend this place especially if you love Korean/Vietnamese/Chinese dishes.

I had a great dining experience at this restaurant. They offer a wide variety of dishes, all of which were delicious. The location is perfect, right in the heart of the entertainment district, making it an ideal spot for a meal. The atmosphere is relaxed and not too fancy, which adds to the comfort of the place. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food. The only downside was the limited selection of desserts, which was a bit disappointing. Overall, a great choice for a casual, tasty meal!

We ordered stir fried noodles and we got rice instead of noodles. They just took out the rice, gave back the plate, and came back with a bowl of boiled vermicelli noodles. Unfortunately, I missed to take a photo of it. I also asked for extra noodles for my Bo Bun but it came without the special sauce that usually comes along with it. I had to ask. Taste-wise, nothing special.

Decent meal. It is kind of japanese inspired menu but let’s face reality this is not japanese cuisine but then again I doubt there is real japanese cuisine in France. The meal was pleasant and not overly pricey. Service was fast and efficient, that was really appreciated

Great service and fresh food. We had a tiny concern with the fat tuna (you should definitely try it) but everyone apologised because it was a little more exposed to air than it should (yes we are picky with our sushi) and in the end the owner (or manager?) very discretely intervened and they didn't charge it! Fantastic professional attitude and high quality sushi at ok prices. Will definitely return. The terrace is lovely and with a true Japanese feel! Japanese shop within has a good selection of real japanese brands and gives a nice feel to the overall design and atmosphere of the restaurant. Gyozas are amazing and the hot sake very light and easy to drink.
Rosieee X★☆☆☆☆
The food is passable if you are not looking for authentic Japanese food, the taste is simply off for some dishes. Horrible service ! I have never met a waitress so outrageously rude, double standard, charged us for a dish that we ordered by mistake but was sent back to kitchen and again charged us for a mistake that the kitchen made on one of our plate and so cockily said it is the kitchen’s fault and not hers and so we should pay and just walk away. We agreed to pay for our mistake, and it is not about the money, it is how she handled the situation and her egoistic attitude. She never apologised for the meaty vegetarian dish that we had. They don’t give a damn to vegetarians even though their vegetarian menu is priced higher than regular menu. We found pieces of meat in our vegetarian plate, and they simply replied that they are noted, did nothing.

The hall is lovely with beautiful decorations and all food is served in beautiful wooden plates. The food could use a bit more seasoning but overall it was very enjoyable.

Best Japanese/Korean food ever. Ate like I'd never eaten before! Friendly service, interesting decor but food was superb. Highly recommend reservations. I was there in April but it was very busy with lots of locals so summer must be impossible for walk in. A bit off from tourist area but safe and worth the few minute walk. You will be happy you did

Oh boy…where do I begin. Had high expectations due to such good reviews but it was far from authentic Korean food and rolls. Especially tteokbbokki. The rice cakes were under cooked and very hard. We asked the server to cook a bit more and apparently it was put in a microwave oven which make them even harder. Not eatable. Sushi rolls were the same quality as supermarket sushi rolls. Just TERRIBLE. 절대 가지 말것.

We were craving sushi tonight so we chose this place based on the good reviews and the photos showing how well presented the food was. We were welcomed by friendly employees and we were seated in the cave on -1. The stairs to go down were amazing and the decoration makes you feel as if you've traveled to Japan. We took the korean fried chicken with honey and the sweet potatoes. It was really good and well presented. For the sushi rolls, we took Tiger, Lava and crunchy. Each was special by itself. The prices are acceptable. Overall it was a well enjoyed experience, and a must stop for sushi craving in Aix en Provence.

I had a serious sushi craving, and my friend, knowing my love for all things Japanese cuisine, suggested Oh restaurant. Honestly, I was a bit skeptical, I've had my share of mediocre sushi experiences in France. But from the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was inviting, and the staff were incredibly welcoming. Then came the rolls... Wow. Just wow. Each piece was a work of art, both visually and in terms of flavor. The fish was incredibly fresh, the rice perfectly seasoned, and the combinations were inspired. I've eaten sushi all over, and I can confidently say that Oh restaurant served me some of the best rolls I've ever tasted in France, period. Forget your usual sushi spot – this place is a true gem. If you're looking for an exceptional sushi experience, look no further. Highly, highly recommended!

Very friendly service..we turned up two hours early for our reservation (due to a translation issue on our side). The place was very busy but they went out of their way to accommodate us. Really lovely Japanese and Korean food...would certainly go again.

Tips for Choosing the Right Asian Restaurant in Aix

Selecting the perfect spot for dinner involves more than just picking the nearest noodle bar. The variety of Asian cuisines in Aix-en-Provence is vast, and understanding a few local nuances can significantly enhance your dining experience. These practical tips will help you navigate the scene like a seasoned food critic, ensuring you match your cravings with the right kitchen and atmosphere.

Check the menu’s focus. The best Asian restaurants in Aix tend to specialize rather than trying to cook every cuisine under one roof. A restaurant that focuses solely on Japanese sushi or Vietnamese street food is far more likely to deliver authentic flavors than a "pan-Asian" spot with a 10-page menu. Look for a tight, focused menu as a sign of a kitchen that respects its craft.

Book ahead for dinner service. Aix-en-Provence is a bustling university town, and the most popular restaurants fill up quickly, especially on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Unlike in larger cities where you can often walk in, the intimate dining rooms here have limited seating. A quick phone call or online reservation will save you from being turned away at the door.

Embrace the lunchtime formulas. If you want to experience high-quality Asian food without the premium dinner prices, visit at midday. Many of the top sushi and Thai restaurants offer "formules" or set menus at lunch that provide excellent value. You can often get a main course, rice, and a drink for a fraction of the evening cost.

Consider dietary requirements. While French dining can sometimes be challenging for vegetarians, Asian kitchens are often incredibly accommodating. Many Vietnamese and Thai restaurants offer tofu substitutions and vegetable-forward dishes that are not merely an afterthought. If you are gluten-free, exercise caution with soy sauce and ask if they offer tamari.

Look for fresh fish indicators. If you are heading out for sushi or sashimi, pay attention to the day of the week. While logistics have improved, the freshest fish deliveries in Aix often arrive mid-week. Asking the server what they recommend or what arrived fresh that day is a smart way to ensure you are tasting the chef’s best work.

Don’t skip the family-run spots. Some of the most memorable meals in Aix happen in small, unassuming dining rooms run by families. These establishments often rely on recipes passed down through generations rather than trend-driven plating. If you see a restaurant packed with local residents rather than just tourists, take it as a strong endorsement of the kitchen’s quality.

Exploring the Asian culinary landscape in Aix-en-Provence offers a delightful contrast to the region’s olive oil and lavender-infused staples. It proves that this historic city is not frozen in time but is instead a living, breathing hub of global culture. From the precision of Japanese knives to the fiery woks of Thailand, there is a depth of flavor here waiting to be discovered.

No matter which of these establishments you choose, you are guaranteed a meal made with care. Take your time, order a few dishes to share, and enjoy the vibrant, international side of Aix that often surprises first-time visitors.
