12 Affordable Places to Eat near the Sacré-Cœur Basilica

Finding a satisfying meal in Paris doesn’t have to drain your travel budget, even in the shadow of one of the city’s most iconic monuments. The area surrounding the Sacré-Cœur Basilica in Montmartre is a vibrant mix of tourist hotspots and hidden local gems. While the cobblestone streets of Place du Tertre offer undeniable charm, the immediate vicinity is often associated with inflated prices and mediocre tourist menus.

The key to eating well near the Sacré-Cœur is to walk just a few blocks away from the main square and the funicular. By venturing slightly downhill or into the quieter backstreets of the 18th arrondissement, you can discover authentic French bistros, bustling crêperies, and international eateries that cater to the local crowd. These establishments prioritize quality ingredients and fair pricing over a prime view of the basilica steps.

Montmartre has historically been a village of artists and working-class Parisians, a spirit that still lingers in its culinary landscape. Unlike the high-end gastronomy found near the Champs-Élysées, the food here leans toward hearty, rustic, and comforting fare. You are more likely to find a perfectly executed croque monsieur, a savory galette, or a flavorful bowl of pho than a fussy multi-course tasting menu.

For visitors, navigating the dining scene here requires a blend of curiosity and a willingness to explore the slopes. The terrain is steep, but the culinary rewards are worth the walk. Whether you are looking for a quick bite before visiting the basilica or a leisurely lunch after exploring the Musée de Montmartre, there are plenty of options that won’t leave your wallet empty.

This guide focuses on accessibility, value, and authenticity. We have scoured the streets around the Butte to find spots where you can enjoy a substantial meal without paying a premium simply for the location. From French classics to international comfort food, these selections prove that affordable dining near a major landmark is entirely possible.

To help you plan your visit, we have compiled a list of reliable spots that offer excellent value for money. These are places where the focus is on the food and the experience, not just the tourist turnover.

We came here two days in a row, because it was so good! Great food, onion soup was amazing! We really recommend confit de canard, it just melts in your mouth. Desserts are also very tasty as well as the cocktails. Glad we came here, you can feel that they pour their heart into the food ❤️ The owners are lovely💕

We had a delicious ancient raclette experience. The meats were quality, the potatoes the best we ever tried and the whole experience in the Tavern with the coals melting away our own raclette cheese cube was something to remember. Price-quality was on point and service with a smile. We would have loved French music in the background but the easy going hit songs were also fine. Definitely recommend this place.

So so good! Just off the main busy area of Montmart! This beautiful building has amazing food, very nice service and even though they didn’t have kids menu they did make a pasta the way my kid wanted it! Highly recommend this

A very good choice if you want to try authentic French dishes at a reasonable price and in a place that isn’t overly touristy. The restaurant is small but full of charm, the service is attentive, and the food is genuinely well-prepared. Most guests order either fondue or raclette, and in both cases the experience tends to be very enjoyable.

Very friendly staff and excellent food. I highly recommend trying the escargots – they were delicious. The salmon was perfectly cooked, fresh, and full of flavor. The foie gras was also excellent. Everything tasted fresh and well prepared. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating, and the air conditioning inside was a great bonus on a warm day. Definitely worth a stop if you’re visiting Paris!

Amazing food and a wonderful experience! Everything we ordered was delicious, fresh, and full of flavour. The staff were incredibly kind, welcoming, and attentive, making us feel right at home. We would definitely come back and highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Paris!

This place was absolutely perfect for our team dinner. The food is delicious very authentic, the service is outstanding. The waiters and the manager are very attentive. Food came out right away. We truly enjoyed our time there.

The duck leg was absolutely delicious, and the sauce was so amazing that I kept wanting more. The beef was incredibly tender—I couldn't believe how soft it was without being chewy at all. Unfortunately, we found a hair in one of the dishes, but after we informed the staff, they immediately made a new one for us. The male server was extremely friendly, cheerful, and handled the situation very professionally.

This French cafe and restaurant in the area offers a delightful dining experience for both light meals and hearty lunches and dinners. The establishment boasts both indoor and outdoor seating, providing a pleasant ambiance with stunning views. I highly recommend making a reservation in advance, especially during peak hours. However, if you’re in the vicinity and the restaurant isn’t overly crowded, you can simply walk in and enjoy your meal. The food here is simply amazing, and the service is impeccable. Once you place your order, all the dishes arrive promptly.

My husband & I enjoyed our final evening in Paris with a lovely dinner at Chez Marie! Our dinner included beef tartare which I had waited all week for! It did not disappoint! Loved every bite. We also had the bruschetta and the crispy chicken with pasta.the finale was the tarte tartin - excellent! Service was on point and not intrusive. Merci for a memorable dinner!

The food was delicious, and the service was excellent as well. Even though the restaurant was busy, our waiter, Daniel, was incredibly attentive and friendly, making sure we had everything we needed. The prices were very reasonable, and I highly recommend this place! We had the lasagna, the Chef's Special pasta, and the escargot—everything was amazing! Highly recommend.

Great dining experience. It was our first day in Paris and this boutique, amazing little restaurant hit the mark in every way. Atmosphere, flavour, location, service - everything was 5 star. Highly recommend to visitors to the area. We will be back.

I would absolutely recommend Chez Marie. The food was delicious, most especially the French onion soup! The staff were professional but very friendly and welcoming. For anyone who doesn't speak English, they all seem to be perfectly bilingual as well.

Delicious food (best we have had in Paris) - onion soup, burrata peach salad, beef bourguignon. All was fantastic. Also got a Hugo spritz and espresso martinis- would recommend both. Wonderful service with Victor who was friendly and helpful, and great ambiance. 10/10 would recommend!

Just stopped for lunch here. Great spot at the foot of the stairs leading down from Rue Lamarck. Friendly service, fresh food and good value. North Montmartre is less touristy than the area in front of Sacre Coeur so it's worth a trip over the hill to find somewhere a bit less hectic. We had a very generous Mediterranean salad with Prosciutto and a Croque Monsiour. Both were well presented and tasty. Recommended. Prices were about standard for good neighbourhood bistro. 33 euro including a soft drink.
Andy Bell★★★★☆
Handy stop on the way to the Sacre Couer (by the stairs) with inside and outside seating attended by friendly staff. Full menu as well as boards of meat/cheese and good value lunch offer over two or three courses. Most of a short wine list comes in all sizes over an attractively short pricing scale.
Gerardo Gallegos★★★★★
We stop to get a quick bite a drink and use the restroom. We ordered a ceviche appetizer and my wife and I split 1 hamburger. After tasting the burger my wife and I agreed this was one of the best burgers we have had in a very long time. So we immediately ordered another one. We have IN&OUT burgers in California, but this burger here in Paris is far better. We must just come back to Paris just for the burger

Very cosy atmosphere, especially indoors, but there's also a nice terrace outside. Friendly service, very reasonable prices for the portions you get! The lamb kebab was good, and I appreciated the very generous amount of green beans. A really wonderful spot for lunch or dinner.

Meat tasted like ash. Beer had a very wierd flavour. French fries were not hommade. I would not recommend it at all.

Good and affordable place in Montmartre. It's very small, there a few tables outside and 2 or 3 more inside. They sell also take away. We had the baguette with ham and raclette and it was pretty good. 9.5 euros. Great sangria for 4.5 euros. They also have crepes and other sandwiches. Go for it if you are on a budget but still want to get something to eat in the touristy area.
James Griffey★★★★★
Really gives you the feel of being in a cute Paris cafe/bakery. Prices are good and they are English speaking. We ordered a variety of things for our party of 5 and everyone loved what they got. Their bathroom is even amazing. Highly recommend this spot.

Stopped in for a glass of champagne which was just €9:50 at the time of review. All drinks are a reasonable price and staff are very friendly. A perfect example of a well run establishment in a prime tourist area with very fair pricing. Didn’t eat but all the food I witnessed being purchased looked lovely.
Sindy Tang★★★★★
Raclette sandwich is absolutely amazing - must try if you are in the area! You won’t regret it.

Wonderfully cheesey and crunchy sandwiches at this little cafe just around the corner from Paris' highest church. They also have a bar menu, which even has an absinth cocktail. They have a few little tables inside and outside. The hot roqlette sandwich and hot wine were wonderful on a cold Paris day.

This has been one of my favourite bouillon during my last visit in Paris! The food is amazing and the chef really knows how to work well with spices and sauces. The best thing I ate was “poireau à la vinaigrette”, which is tipically Parisian. They were so amazing
H Curates★★★☆☆
⭐⭐⭐☆☆ A bit of a mixed experience. The restaurant is cozy, the atmosphere is pleasant, and the service was excellent throughout our visit. The food, however, was fairly average. The French onion soup felt more like a deconstructed version and was served cold, which was disappointing. The steak was also not what I expected, with a texture more like a burger patty than a proper steak. One thing that surprised me was looking into the open kitchen and not seeing a single local French chef. I had expected a more authentic dining experience. On the plus side, the location is convenient, just outside the metro on the way to Montmartre, making it an easy stop if you’re in the area.
Sydney Martinie★★★★★
We popped in for dinner without reservations on a Tuesday and we were so happy they serve early (we had a show to catch) as many places in France don’t serve dinner before 19h / 19h30. The server was so attentive and quick with service despite being short on kitchen staff. We loved the candlelight (what a pleasant surprise) and the upscale feel despite the very reasonable prices, especially for Pigalle / Montmartre. We had 2 full menus with drinks (their sparkling was super good and reasonably priced) and spent maybe 50€ each. Super value, super service 👍👍
Eris★★★☆☆
If i had to come only for the atmosphere, the vibe and the decor, i would go. But the food was not tasty. The Cordon Bleu was really crispy but tasteless. The mashed potatoes tasted like potato with water. There was no structure or depth. The steak and the fries were average. Even though everything looks good when you see them, I wouldn't go there to eat next time (at least the "Cordon Bleu maison purée" and the "Piece du boucher frites"). The service was good (if you consider the Paris standard)
Ardi Deliallisi★★★★★
We were there today and the place was filled w parisien vibes. The hospitality was exceptional and our server Marie was very helpful and made us feel like we eating at home. Boeuf bourguignon was the best dish ive ever had i think and ive eaten plenty of good food. The onion soup was good too but the bourguignon was the star of the show. The prices are also really good coming out to 20ish euros per person in the middle of Paris!Would totally recommend 10/10 place the best in Paris!

Delicious. The escargot was divine. The frog legs were cooked perfectly. The steak was exquisite and the accompanying sauces were surprising. I have never liked blue cheese and the blue cheese sauce was my favorite!! I need that recipe. The tarte tatin was the perfect end to the meal!

Beautiful experience. Small restaurant and i believe one would usually need to make a reservation, yet we had the fortune of getting a table without one. The waiter seemed stressed, but remained professional and kind; we even had a chat with him after our dinner. The food was amazing, the whole process or preparation seemed very high in quality. We ordered froglegs, steak for 2 and a crème brûlée. Water, bread and butter was on the house. In total we payed 101€. This is a lot of money, yet in our opinion it was totally worth it!
Lorraine Garvie★★★★★
Really great experience - food incredible - service brilliant - reasonable price for steak and wine pricing is best I've seen in Paris. Book by email 2 weeks in advance - easy getting a table but it's a small restaurant so you may be disappointed if you just turn up. Chat GPT recommended Sacre Fleur and a chef that I know and they were both spot on thank you. Bear in mind it's June and it's hot. The restaurant is small - with some fans. Don't overdress!
Juliana Lôbo★★★★★
What an absolute gem of a restaurant. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this is a genuinely French restaurant, not one that simply borrows French names or dishes. The atmosphere, the attention to detail, the quality of the ingredients, and the execution of every plate reflected true French hospitality and culinary tradition. The food was outstanding from start to finish. Every dish was beautifully prepared, full of flavour, and made with obvious care and expertise. The quality of the ingredients really shines through, particularly the meat, which was cooked to perfection and among the best I have tasted in a long time. It is increasingly rare to find a restaurant that combines authenticity, consistency, and such high standards while still offering excellent value for money. What made the experience even more memorable was the service. Kendel and Silvan were absolutely exceptional in every aspect. Professional, attentive, knowledgeable, warm, and genuinely passionate about ensuring guests have a wonderful experience. They struck the perfect balance between being attentive without ever being intrusive, making us feel welcomed and valued throughout the entire meal. Customer service of this standard is difficult to find. Every interaction was handled with genuine care, professionalism, and a smile. It is clear that they take great pride in what they do, and it elevated an already excellent dining experience into something truly special. If you are looking for authentic French cuisine, outstanding quality, perfectly cooked meat, reasonable prices, and some of the best service you could hope to receive, this restaurant deserves to be at the very top of your list. A huge thank you to Kendel and Silvan for making our visit so memorable. We will definitely be returning and recommending this place to everyone we know.
Kit McKinney★★★★★
What a hidden gem! Tiny restaurant, reservation is a must, but WOW. The food was incredible, frogs legs, French onion soup, salmon and duck. Everything was amazing. The service was superb, the waiters are so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble even with my very rusty French! A truly excellent meal, would highly reccomend!

The restaurant had no available indoor table when we arrived, we have to sit at the outdoor walkway table, next to us was another table of guests. It was 7-8pm and the weather was so cold 🥶! When the indoor guests were done, together with the next table, we were ushered in by the very nice male staff to dine inside even we didn’t requested it. We were very pleased and so happy! The food was delicious and his service was excellent! He also had a fun and humorous personality😁 The price of Dinner for 4 was very reasonable too! We had a wonderful time😘 Highly recommended 👍🏻❤️

Had a lovely meal at Le Bart! The place has a cozy and charming Parisian vibe, with cute interior details and a relaxed atmosphere. The food was good — we had pasta, salmon, burger, fries, and the free bread was a nice touch. The service was really nice and made the experience even better. Great spot for a simple, casual meal in Paris.

The waiter was so nice and the food was sooooo good. I recommend the daurade(sea bream) plate. And the owner told me that Lisa from Blackpink visited last September so I guess it’s Lisa proofed tasty restaurant.

We absolutely love this little gem. The restaurant might be small, but the host was wonderful. He took his time talking us through the menu and really looked after us. The food was amazing. The portions were massive, and everything about this restaurant was just amazing. We were lucky because we went at 6:30pm ish, so we managed to get a table. Otherwise, I would recommend booking to avoid disappointment because if you’re in Montmartre, you should really visit.

A lively and bustling restaurant with a great atmosphere. The food was fresh, authentically French, and absolutely worth the wait. Our group all enjoyed three-course meals, and we were impressed by both the variety and the quality of the dishes. The service was a little slow at times, but considering how busy the restaurant was, it was completely understandable. The staff remained friendly, and the overall experience was very enjoyable. The ambience is warm and inviting, which adds to the charm of the place. When we left, there was already a long line of customers waiting outside. We arrived around 18:30 and didn’t have to wait too long, but I suspect arriving closer to 18:00 would be even better if you want to avoid the crowds. Overall, a fantastic dining experience with excellent food, a vibrant atmosphere, and definitely a place I’d return to.
Sue Lee★★★★☆
We tried this place twice during our stay. Our first dinner didn’t meet our expectations, so we thought we’d give it another try. The second dinner was much more comfortable and absolutely enjoyable. A tip: it’s hard to get the server’s attention once you’ve placed your order, so order everything you want upfront. On the plus side, the prices are some of the cheapest you’ll find in Paris for the quality. My favorites were the French onion soup and the bone marrow.
Angel Petrov★★★★☆
One of the typical Paris places for streaming food. Very tasty food at a low price, for many people. It is an attraction in itself with all the service and a lively atmosphere with thousands of people from all over the world in one place. Be sure to make a reservation. A must visit!
Victor Fong★★★☆☆
Simple food with tons of value. Over two nights here we had foie gras twice, escargot, and the mayo eggs as starters, needless to say the duck liver pate was the star worth repeating. The others were very average. The beef bourguignon over pasta was very plain, lacking depth. The duck confit and cassoulet were decent. I believe the pork shank was the most exciting dish there, other than the profiterole was incredible…and befits the praise. It IS French “fast food” with great value however lacking the character of a culinary experience on any level. I’d say more of a young persons place. Perfect to chase an empty stomach after an evening of drinks. Here is the SHOCKER…we were seated near the servers station and witnessed the table bread being recycled?!? Any left over bread was being put back into the basket and reserved. Figuring it was customary dismissing it until I read it is illegal and a gross trespass of health and safety regulations. Go eat but stay away from the bread.
Kaye Cabonce★★★★☆
We went before 13h with no reservation on a weekday. There was no wait and was seated immediately. We were able to order quickly and the food arrived within minutes. The food is very affordable and you get to taste staple French food like snails and onion soupe. By the time we were finishing our meal the place was full and so it took longer to get the waiter's attention to order dessert and pay. I would recommend to come in early to get the best service time. If needed they have the menu available in several languages. Toilets are also pretty clean and there is even a mini shop to get Bouilln items!

Second review of “Eat like a local in Paris”. We tried Fric-Frac which was downhill from Sacre Coeur before we tackled an afternoon in the Montmartre area. The bread is homemade and the ingredients were amazing and fresh. They had more traditional Croque Monsieurs and more creative ones too. It was hard to decide. I chose their version of a Croque Madame which had a soft boiled egg inside instead of the traditional fried egg. It was excellent. I highly suggest the online scannable menu vs a paper menu. They have videos of every sandwich which are quite enticing! The cucumber salad had a hint of wasabi in it, which was quite original and refreshing. Overall great choice.

Great little spot with a variety of sandwiches! The mushroom soup is very earthy. My husband didn't like it, but I did. It was very one note and tasted like a liquid mushroom; if that's ok with you, then get it. It was a cold rainy day where we visited, so I was all about the soup. The bread was divine and the sandwiches scrumptious. Add the truffle cream! Well worth it.

A great find near Sacre coeur in our last night in Paris and my favorite sandwich I ate in my entire one week long trip. We had the Aztec and the Bandito, as well as the apple dessert - both were very delicious, slightly crunchy but not too hard, big enough and very tasty. The staff is very friendly, they speak English and the atmosphere is super laid back and relaxing. Everything is done conveniently- you scan the menu, order and pay directly from your phone. I would return many times if I had more time in Paris, alas maybe next time.

Food was very good and staff was fine. Coffee was good as well. It was not crowded when we arrived, so we were seated straight away, no reservation needed. Prices are a bit on a higher range. It was raining outside so we were sitting inside, but during sunny days I believe outside option seems great as well.

Walked by this restaurant a few days before finally going in. The food...the staff...the atmosphere, all perfect. They also had wine sommelier on staff that came over to assist us. I highly recommend this restaurant in Place du Tertre.

Great service and a fantastic location. It's the perfect spot for people watching while enjoying a glass of wine or a cold drink surrounded by the artwork of local artists. It's inspiring to think that legendary painters like Pablo Picasso and Vincent van Gogh once walked these same streets, adding to the charm and history of the experience.

Our favorite spot for people watching in Montmartre! Food is always tasty, wine selection is great, the waitstaff is helpful and attentive. You can get a blanket to enjoy sitting outside to watch artists work in the square with the Sacre Coeur dome in the background. We’ve been coming here for years, every time we visit Paris we grab a glass of wine here. Definitely recommend! A*

A wonderful experience having dinner outside here as a solo traveler. The steak with pepper sauce was incredible (and all of its sides). Fantastic service and great atmosphere. I am about to dig in to the chocolate cake as I type this and I’m sure it is going to be excellent. Highly recommend!

Food is amazing! Tried the baked egg with foie gras and tartiflette and both were delicious. My family enjoyed their orders too. Also had the crème brûlée and sorbet with calvados for dessert and these did not disappoint. Best last night in Paris before heading out to Belgium.

We had such a lovely dinner here. The service was excellent, and the lady at the front was especially elegant and kind. Her warm and charming manner left a really lovely impression on us. Everything was fresh, comforting, and full of flavor. The veal was crispy and tender, the prawns were delicious, and the crème brûlée was one of the best parts of the meal. The atmosphere was cozy and charming, and the whole experience felt very authentic. Definitely a place I would happily come back to.

A hidden gem in Montmartre and a wonderful place to try traditional French food without feeling trapped in an overpriced tourist restaurant. I was very happy to have my last lunch in Paris in this place. The value for money is almost unbelievable. For around €7, you can get a delicate French onion soup or an organic duck egg with duck foie gras, while in many other Paris restaurants similar dishes would easily cost €12 or more. The quality of the food itself is impressive. The onion soup was rich, warming and deeply savoury. The egg with duck foie gras was smooth, warm and luxurious. I am usually not into bread, but I really devoured the crispy bread which came with that dish. The staff was another highlight. The waiter was attentive, fast and genuinely helpful, explaining all the positions in the menu. I also liked cozy atmosphere of this bistro and the fact that it has seating both inside and outside. Definetely recommend to visit this spot.

A must-visit in Paris! I had an incredible dinner at Le Jardin d'en Face. We started with the French onion soup, which was rich, flavorful, and exactly what you hope for in Paris. For the main course, I highly recommend the Magret de Canard (duck breast) with honey sauce, it was cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. We finished the meal with a classic Crème Brûlée, which was the perfect sweet ending. Great atmosphere and friendly service. Highly recommended!

Navigating the dining scene in a busy tourist area requires a bit of strategy to ensure you get the best value for your money. While the options listed above are excellent starting points, understanding how the local restaurant culture works will save you both euros and disappointment. A little preparation can transform a simple meal into a highlight of your Parisian adventure.

Smart Tips for Dining on a Budget in Montmartre

To make the most of your culinary journey around the Sacré-Cœur, it helps to know a few local customs and money-saving strategies. Here are some practical tips to keep your dining experience affordable and enjoyable.

  • Opt for the "Formule" or "Menu du Jour": Most French restaurants offer a fixed-price lunch menu (formule midi) that includes a starter and main course, or a main course and dessert. This is almost always significantly cheaper than ordering à la carte and gives you a taste of authentic French home cooking.
  • Walk Away from the Basilica Steps: The restaurants directly facing the Sacré-Cœur or lining the Place du Tertre pay high rent and often pass that cost onto diners. A five-to-ten-minute walk down the hill towards Rue Lepic, Rue des Martyrs, or Rue Ramey will lead you to significantly better prices and higher quality food.
  • Embrace the Crêperie Culture: While some crêperies in the main squares are tourist traps, family-run crêperies on the side streets offer delicious and filling meals. A savory galette (made with buckwheat flour) with ham, cheese, and egg is a classic, affordable, and satisfying French lunch.
  • Look for Ethnic Eateries: The 18th arrondissement is a melting pot of cultures. You can find exceptional and inexpensive Middle Eastern falafel, Vietnamese pho, and North African couscous. These spots often offer generous portions at a fraction of the cost of traditional French brasseries.
  • Buy a Picnic at a Local Market or Bakery: For the ultimate budget-friendly experience, skip the sit-down restaurant entirely. Visit a local boulangerie for a fresh baguette, a fromagerie for cheese, and a charcuterie for cured meats. You can then enjoy a picnic on the grassy slopes of the Square Louise Michel or the quieter parks nearby with a stunning view.

Exploring the food scene around the Sacré-Cœur is about more than just filling your stomach; it is about experiencing the bohemian soul of Paris. By stepping off the beaten path and following the locals, you can enjoy authentic flavors that reflect the true character of Montmartre.

The steep climb up to the basilica definitely works up an appetite, but that doesn’t mean you have to fall into a tourist trap. With a little foresight and a willingness to explore the winding streets, you can find meals that are both memorable and affordable. The contrast between the bustling summit and the vibrant, local village just below is part of what makes this neighborhood so special.
