12 Affordable Places to Eat near Jardin du Luxembourg

Finding a satisfying meal in the 6th arrondissement of Paris can often feel like a choice between overpriced tourist traps and underwhelming convenience food. The area surrounding the Jardin du Luxembourg is undeniably prestigious, filled with elegant Haussmann buildings and historic literary cafés. However, for students, families, and budget-conscious travelers enjoying the gardens, the cost of dining out can quickly become prohibitive.

The good news is that you do not need to compromise on quality or authenticity to eat well on a budget near the park. The Latin Quarter and the streets bordering Saint-Sulpice are home to a vibrant ecosystem of crêperies, bakeries, and family-run bistros that prioritize value. It simply requires knowing which side streets to wander down and which menus offer the best fixed-price deals.

This guide focuses on maximizing value without sacrificing the Parisian culinary experience. We have scoured the neighborhood to find establishments offering hearty sandwiches, traditional French classics, and international flavors that won’t break the bank. Whether you are planning a picnic on the grass or need a warm, sit-down meal after a morning of sightseeing, there is an option here for you.

We define "affordable" as a place where you can get a substantial meal for roughly €10 to €20 per person, a rarity in this upscale district. These are not fast-food chains; they are authentic local businesses that serve fresh, high-quality food. From legendary baguettes to steaming bowls of pho, the diversity of the neighborhood is reflected in its food.

By choosing wisely, you can allocate your travel budget to museum entries and shopping while still eating like a local. The key is to embrace the "formule" (set menu) culture and to look for the places where Parisians themselves are queuing. If you see a line of students and office workers, you have likely found a winner.

Below, we have curated a list of the most reliable and affordable spots to eat near the Jardin du Luxembourg, ensuring you stay fueled for exploring the Latin Quarter.

Our first meal in Paris. What a lovely place, such a friendly staff and my roasted eggplant was absolutely delicious, so unique. My husband had burger, very happy. Thank you Highly recommend!

On a quiet residential street near the Luxembourg Gardens. We sat down and our very friendly waitress brought us a bowl of popcorn, which she continually topped up during our stay. Her English was excellent. It has a nice terrace and we enjoyed the atmosphere. Menu was standard bistro fare but what we ordered (Avocado Toast and Bouef Bourguignon) were prepared and presented very well. You have lots of options close by but you’ll be happy if you choose here.

Food was delicious! The atmosphere was very rustic and Parisian. Sitting outside brought the food and the town to life. A very classic experience. The escargot and the French onion soup are to die for. The main Cuisine was ok. But the waiters made up for the steak that was not cooked to perfection.

We had breakfast here before heading out to explore Paris, and it was the perfect start to the day. The café has a quiet, authentic French atmosphere that makes you want to slow down and enjoy the moment. My favorite part was sitting by the open window with a cup of coffee, watching the city wake up. A lovely place for a peaceful breakfast before a day of walking around Paris. Highly recommended!

This is the perfect place to go for a satisfying meal with an interesting variety of dishes. Perfect if you have someone in your party that is gluten free (celiac). About 75% of the menu is gluten free. We enjoyed the Oeufs Maison anciennes appetizer. All the food was prepared well and at the right temperature. My vegetarian lasagna (not gf) was full of vegetables and tomatoes — not heavily seasoned full of garlic. The chicken breast (GF) was prepared in sous vide so the skin was not browned and it was a bit overdone. It was served in a cream sauce. The pineapple dessert with coconut ice was light and refreshing.
Chris Parslow★★★★☆
Canard confit and Steak Frites were delicious. Duck was both crispy and tender, while the steak was cooked perfectly to medium rare. Across from the jardin de Luxembourg made for a nice evening location.

Dinner- Absolutely loved this place. The food was amazing from start to finish, and the service was just as fabulous. You can really feel the care and passion that goes into everything here. It’s owner-run, with the husband as the chef and the wife running front of house, and that personal touch makes such a difference. Everyone was so warm, welcoming, and genuinely personable. It felt like dining with family while still getting an incredible restaurant experience. Will definitely come back the next time in Paris!
Catherine Cook★★★★★
This restaurant has unique and delicious choices which are also gluten free. When traveling, I get tired of every restaurant offering me chicken surprise. I was beyond thrilled with the different choices at Petit Medicis. I had the codfish with chorizo sausage which was perfectly done, the fish was light and flaky, and the chorizo with accompanying sauce was the right amount of spice. So unique! My partner had the leeks with a parmesan toast and the tomato soup . Both were beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The service was knowledgeable, patient and kind to us. I would highly recommend.
Don Lampert★★★★★
What a friendly and lovely place. Menu offers a perfectly balanced selection of starters, plates and desserts. All of our meals have been both attractively presented and delicious. We always return when back in Paris.

A true Parisian bistro with amazing home-made food and wines. Make sure to try their house specialty - gratine...the best one is with the duck ( magre du canard ). Just exceptional! But what I love the most is the atmosphere. It feels like you are waiting for your grandmother to finish baking your favourite dish...slowly and with a lot of love. The staff speaks English very well so you needn't worry. The only thing is you have to be patient and leave enough time , at least 2 hours for a meal and don't get annoyed if you wait more than half an hour for the food to be ready...it is well worth the wait. Relax, enjoy and soak up the atmosphere! The tart Tatin was pure 10 out of 10. This is my third time there and I will be back again for sure!
Sara Sam★★★☆☆
Our order was a Bistro gratin so it doesn’t have any eggs. But there were eggs in it ! Which I understand from the first bite! Also I’m not sure about the recèpe but all the materials were apart and in a light milky sauce 🙁 it wasn’t my first time to try gratin though ! I expected more (at least from the appearance). The staff were friendly and polite but it took more than 30 minutes to bring our food which it’s too long .

Such a nice place. Out 1st time trying French quisine and it did not disappoint us. They were so nice, our kids had bought fries from somewhere and they let our kids sit and eat that with us. Again a great place to go. We saw other tables had locals eating which reassured us that this was an authentic restaurant and not a tourist trap.
Ronja Lohrum★★★★★
Highly recommend this place place. It's close to the Seine, however there is a street still between. Seating is used to the max, but this gives a friendly atmosphere. The waiters was friendly and the menu was French and English. I recommend going at non-peak hours has it gets crowded quickly. Definitely try their signature dish, it did not disappoint and was filling.
Rebecca Pritchard★★★★★
Such a lovely little place with delicious food, great atmosphere and friendly, hard working service. Recommend the cheese gratin (lots of different types) and the cocktails! Great value too. Despite the tiny kitchen, service was fast and friendly. It gets busy though so you might want to book

I wandered into this restaurant at lunchtime because I was searching for something healthy, vegetarian and gluten-free … and was delighted! I even returned the next night for an evening meal. Andrea and her husband, Spyros, welcomed me, and everyone else, as if into their home. Andrea’s warmth, thoughtful suggestions and genuine enthusiasm for her food set the tone for the entire experience. The cosy room buzzed with easy conversation between regulars and newcomers alike which created a relaxed and communal atmosphere that is not common these days. Every dish is prepared with care, and love, letting the flavours shine. The food is fresh, simple and extraordinarily delicious … the kind that lingered in my mind long after the meal. Next time I am in Paris, I will most definitely come back!!

It was such a lucky find to come across this cozy restaurant on a cold, rainy day in Paris. The hostess was incredibly kind and welcoming, treating us with the warmth of a grandmother. As I was unsure of what to order, she thoughtfully recommended dishes that were perfect for both my son and me. The main course was truly delicious! What touched me the most was when she brought out paper and markers for my son to draw while I was finishing my tea. Ευχαριστώ πολύ!

Delicious homemade Greek food. All dishes are very tasty and freshly made from scratch. Such an enjoyable dinner. Very kind owners, eager to share their cuisine

4.2/5. I had the spanakopita and the moussaka for around 23 euros and the spanakopita was the best i have ever had. The moussaka was average and nothing special. But if you go for the spanakopita, it is worth it. Overall, wouldn't recommend for the moussaka but would for the spanakopita
JQ Yan★★★☆☆
Disappointing meal. The salmon special took ages to arrive and was both lukewarm and overly salty. It felt like everything had been previously frozen. Even the dessert was off, the honey was too sticky to mix into the yogurt. The only saving grace is the location and the owners, who are a very sweet older couple.

A perfect French experience. And an affordable one right in the middle of Paris in the old quaint Latin quarter neighbourhoods. The menu is very short and well curated. They serve their specialty and make seasonal meals. They change their menu but keep it standard still. If you are in Paris for a trip or live here, either way, a great place to stop by for lunch/dinner. It is a family run business so expect the French courtesy. The service was fast, server was polite. Enough space for a romantic dinner and also an after work soirée. As for the tourists, just to get an idea of what they serve, their entree is a salad with salmon bites with a perfect amount of mayo drip. For summers this is a perfect light starting. They also have terrine triangles which are a bit denser entree bites paired perfectly with bread. For main course they have succulent skewers and juicy perfectly grilled vegetables on the side. The meat is good quality so you won’t be disappointed. And finally for dessert you have the very famous creme brûlée. Personally I wasn’t greatly pleased with this item but this is the only thing I thought they could make better. They have a great citation of cheese so if you want to go for the best option you go for cheese of the day. And finish of your meal with a cafe!
Lasma Cudere★★★★★
It was the best experience in all Paris trip! Hidden gem- 3 course meal for 22€ and it tasted like literally French- home cooked meal! It’s super quiet, small and apparently the owner is serving everyone! We still can’t believe the price as it’s worth much more, the vibe there was just so loving and tasty! You are lucky if you found this place! 💓
Elena Bauer★★★★★
I visited this bistro during my trip to Paris last Friday and was very pleasantly surprised. The food tastes like true home-style cooking and is absolutely delicious, and the prices are very reasonable. It’s rare to find a place in Paris where you can eat for so little 1 €19 for a starter, main course, and dessert. I ordered the Normandy-style veal roulade and it was so good I could hardly believe it. The waiter was very polite, and all the other guests in the restaurant were speaking French. I feel really lucky that I happened to come across this place. I would definitely recommend it and would happily come back again!

A great dining experience at a very affordable price. The food quality was superb. I savored every bite. The creme brulee was the best I've ever had.
Paul Moores★★★★★
Great little find. One waiter for this 6 table restaurant. Food was amazing as I had Beef Bourguignon after the French onion soup followed by my fave Lemon Meringue Pie. It was a beautiful quiet restaurant until 1 table of US Republicans drowned out everyone else. Not the restaurants fault. Will return after my next trip to Paris

Perfect! Wonderful food and generous portions! Cheaper than other places and much tastier! We liked it so much that we went back the next day. Excellent service from the "Boss" — he even brought juice for the babies on the house. We will definitely recommend it to our friends. It’s well worth it!
Jorge Cartin★★★★★
Very cosy restaurant. The chef and the waitress were outstanding, very friendly and customer oriented. Being a customer from Costa Rica visiting France, one always expects great food experiences in Paris, and La Maison du Boulevard was a great example. I had duck and my wife lamb, both were very delicious. I fully recommend it
Мария Соколова★★★★★
What a wonderful place! This was my first restaurant in Paris. I was tired after the journey and wanted something delicious, so I was so glad the hotel recommended this place! It's simply superb! I met the owner, a Sri Lankan who's lived in France for over 20 years. He's a master of the kitchen and treated me to duck and purée. Everything was excellent: the appetizers, the wine, and the main course. I highly recommend it!
Jeannie Xu★★★★★
One of the best food and dining experience I’ve had in Paris. The service was excellent, the chef was incredibly friendly and welcoming. We ordered the ribs and the duck breast, both were generous in portion and outstanding in flavor. The salad was amazing, especially paired with the bread, and the dessert crème brûlée was perfect, crunchy on top and silky smooth underneath. The restaurant environment was lovely, with plenty of space to sit comfortably, and it felt warm and cozy during the winter. Highly recommended👍

The owner was very welcoming. If you're unsure what to eat, you can ask for recommendations. I had the steak and snails, and they were both pretty good.

Dinner was great! Be sure to make a reservation for dinner in advance if you can. Otherwise, be prepared for a line if you walk up. We showed up about 20 minutes before they opened and were able to get in, but the line behind us was at least 20 people long before the restaurant (kitchen) even opened! We had the escargot, fish of the day, deviled eggs and the duck. All the food was great! Cocktails and wine were also both fantastic.
Kelly B★★★★★
We had an excellent dinner here! The restaurant is tucked away in a charming little alley. We arrived around 7:30–8pm and there was a line for a table, but the wait was quite short and we were seated before long. The service was absolutely top-notch from start to finish. We each started with a spritz, which was a little different from the usual Aperol Spritz, but still very good and refreshing. My partner had the beef tartare and I had the beef bourguignon. It normally comes with pasta, but I asked if I could have mashed potatoes instead and they were happy to accommodate. Both dishes were excellent! For dessert, we shared the cherry clafoutis and the Paris-Brest and… just wow! Such a great way to end the meal. Excellent food, wonderful service and a beautiful setting. I highly recommend this restaurant and would absolutely return!

I had a great time with my partner when we walked-in for dinner on July 19. The terrine was delicious and the pork dish for two was so rich and comforting. For dessert the crème brûlée and saint honoree and Paris-brest were scrumptious, we cleaned our plates! Florian was an excellent server and extremely friendly and helpful to us the entire time we dined. I would definitely come back again for the great service and food.
L★★★★★
We ordered the onion soup and the beef bourguignon. The onion soup had a smoky, fire-grilled flavor that made it absolutely delicious. It’s definitely a dish each person should try at least once. The beef bourguignon had a slight mix of pork as well. The mushrooms were well-seasoned, and the meat was tender and flavorful. The pre-meal bread was also pleasantly chewy, like it had been freshly baked in-house. I ordered a small 250 ml beer, which I really appreciated since you can adjust the portion size. Even though the line was long, the staff were very busy and efficient, and the food was prepared quickly. Overall, it’s a truly excellent restaurant. It will definitely brighten your day.
Jacinda Brown★★★★★
Had a lovely dinner out on the little terrace at this brasserie. It's in a very busy little laneway which adds to atmosphere. Food and drinks were delicious, well priced. Florian our waiter was the absolute best and kept everything running so smoothly!!! Thank you for a memorable dinner! Would recommend making a reservation especially on a weekend!

Great place to stop for a quick lunch while wandering around the Luxembourg Gardens. The food was good, nothing particularly exceptional, but well prepared and enjoyable. What really makes this spot worth visiting is the location. You can enjoy a beautiful view of the Senate, and the terrace offers plenty of shade thanks to the surrounding buildings, making it a very pleasant place to relax on a warm day. The service was also friendly and attentive. Overall, a great choice if you’re exploring the area.

Incredible neighborhood style Café and restaurant! The way staff are hilarious. They will crack jokes so please be open to sense of humor and sarcasm. I had their steak of the day & a Picón Bitter Orange beer (refreshing & tasty). You will love it!

A lovely bistro with a warm atmosphere and genuinely welcoming, cheerful staff. The portions are very generous and the food is absolutely delicious. The only regret - we didn’t have enough room for dessert, but we’re certain it would have been just as amazing!

Great place for lunch & right across the Luxembourg Gardens. It gets very busy at lunch, but the staff are multitaskers & have it all under control. Very tight spaces, with very little room to move, but it all works out, somehow! The duck breast in orange sauce, & the veal stew were delicious. Very attentive staff in spite of the crowds. Dim lighting for a cozy atmosphere in a two-story room setting. Highly recommend

The best way I would describe the food is like premium takeaway food, the burger wasn’t exactly what I would classify as a burger however the sauce and onions were delicious. The standout however was the chips covered in cheese and bacon and I would definitely recommend. Will most likely come back at some point for some drinks in the evening

As it was raining and we needed food we stopped on a lunchtime. The place has a good vibe and cute interior and a really great menu with loads of options from burgers to poke. Comfy shabby chic sofas and tables, friendly staff. No other tourists when we visited so (in our view) a good sign.

Best breakfast we’ve had so far in Paris. Nice eggs and bacon with a little salad, and bacon with baguette was not something I knew I needed - delicieux! Coffee ok for Melburnians.
Isaías Faria Silva★★★☆☆
Expensive as an airport - it is expensive as food portions are not big. 2 cappuccino, 2 avocado toast and 1 orange juice for 43 euros. - Food is tasty, but the kitchen is slow. Cappuccino is nice too. - it is a touristy place, very well located, so that's why it is expensive. - the barista is very friendly. - toilet available, no parking

I loved this place. My wife and I came one day in late November looking for a good place to have a casual lunch after walking the Luxemburg Gardens. Well, don't look any further. This is a great location. The service was friendly and effective. The restaurant's atmosphere was inviting and relaxed. The food was very good and tasty. We loved the sandwich and the soup. I would come back without hesitation.

Very delicious authentic French meals. Almost equivalent to fine dining level but at more affordable price. We have frois fras fillets and duck breast as main course. All 3 courses are great. The only downside side is the air-conditioning was struggling during heatwaves. Highly recommend this restaurant to all French food lovers.

Nice staff accommodated us last minute. Delicious food all round! Sea Bass, Beef, Pastilla, Duck, Foie Gras and Langoustine Ravioli all yummy. Extra delicious bread too. Lovely ambience, great local restaurant

During our 4 days of Paris visit, we came here twice because it was simply amazing! Recommended by our friends in Paris, it was not touristy at all, filled with locals, food was simple but really good. Price was reasonable, and service was excellent. I would definitely come back !
Alex Ansley★★★★★
A perfectly executed meal in a more local feeling restaurant with top tier dishes that were worth every penny. Prices for what you get were extremely good. Our server, Emile, was so kind and all of his recommendations were phenomenal. Get the ravioli and the tuna for starters! Mains- the DUCK, wow. Pistachio Tiramisu was phenomenal and the pavlova was very tasty!

I’ve been coming to this restaurant for 5 years. It was a great neighbourhood restaurant with wonderful food. But when I went tonight, I noticed that something was off as soon as I entered the restaurant. They had new waitstaff. But they still had the lamb pastilla (signature dish) on the menu, so I persevered. But this version tastes nothing like the classic version I remembered . The old version had a rich lamb flavour, while the one I ate tonight tasted like burnt lemon. I was so surprised that when I came home, I checked the website and discovered that it changed ownership in 2025. I don’t think I will come back.

What a gem! We had fattoush salad, hummus and falafel. All fresh and delicious. Comfortable sidewalk seating (quite a bit warmer inside). Fattoush salad was refreshing on a 40C degree day! Toilet clean and pleasant. Staff friendly and attentive. Fun bantering going on among the staff, locals and even with we tourists. Pricing very reasonable for quality and quantity.

Very great service and very kind staff. We had we was recommended. The fois gras was awesome. Personally liked the burger the most but the fish and steak was also nice. The waiter recommended diff wines for us to pair with our dishes. We went in like 45 minutes before it closes and somehow we were still there way after their closing hour…

A little pricey but cute place with solid food options. Here is a review of **Le Jardin Saint-Germain**, a beloved dining gem located in the heart of the 6th arrondissement (Saint-Germain-des-Prés) in Paris. --- The Verdict: 4.7 / 5 Stars** **Le Jardin Saint-Germain** is a charming, intimate, family-run restaurant that delivers authentic, high-quality bistro-style French cuisine. Unlike many of the grand, high-turnover tourist brasseries in the neighborhood (like *Café de Flore* or *Les Deux Magots*), Le Jardin Saint-Germain stands out for its genuine warmth, hospitality, and outstanding value for money. Warm, Family-Style Hospitality:** The service here consistently receives glowing praise. The team—often led by friendly host/owner Christian—makes guests feel welcomed like family rather than just another table turn. The staff is attentive, offers thoughtful wine pairings, and takes time to guide diners through the menu. * **Exceptional Food Quality:** The kitchen focuses on classic French standards with refined execution. * **Standout Dishes:** The **Duck Confit** and the **Pan-Seared Sea Bass** are crowd favorites. The **scallop appetizer**, **calamari**, and steaks are also highly recommended. * **Desserts:** Don't skip dessert—the *Pain Perdu* (French toast) and the surprisingly famous **Key Lime Pie** (a rare treat in Paris) are highlight finishes. Cozy Atmosphere:** Housed in a charming space with traditional exposed ceiling beams, the ambience is intimate, warm, and distinctly Parisian. * **Fair Pricing:** For the Saint-Germain neighborhood—where prices can easily skyrocket—diners frequently note that the bill feels very reasonable for the quality of food, wine, and service provided. Things to Keep in Mind** * **Small Space:** It is an intimate restaurant with limited seating. Tables can feel a bit close together, which is standard for traditional Paris bistros, but it might feel tight if you prefer extra space. * **Reservations Are Essential:** Because of its high reputation and limited seating capacity, booking a table in advance is strongly recommended, especially for dinner. --- Saint-Germain-des-Prés, 6th Arrondissement, Paris. * **Vibe:** Relaxed, romantic, and welcoming. * **Price Range:** Moderate (€€). **Bottom Line:** If you're looking for a cozy, memorable meal in Saint-Germain with exceptional French cooking and warm, personal service, **Le Jardin Saint-Germain** is one of the best choices in the neighborhood.

OMG, DO NOT miss this restaurant! Now, not to say I’m “picky”, ok, I am, but that’s besides the point. This restaurant was recommended to us by a private chef, and to say it didn’t disappoint is an understatement! First of all it’s only seats 30 people, so it’s truly sweet. But that’s the least of what I want to say about this restaurant. The host/part owner, Christian, is really sweet and very good at recommendations. So if he offers you one, TAKE IT! We started with the calamari which was delicious! First off, it arrived really hot, which is a rarity. But more importantly the flavor was so delicate, the coating was crisp and light, and the sauce on the side was awesome. Christian also recommended the wines to pair with our dishes, and again, excellent choices. We then had the ribeye and the sea bass. Now, I’m not usually one to eat the skin on a fish, or a chicken for that matter, but once again Christian stepped in and recommended that I at least try it. Which I did, and once again, GREAT suggestion! What I loved most of all was the delicate-ness of the flavors. I love when food tastes “clean” but flavorful, and Le Jardin did not disappoint. Now the restaurant is on a side street, kind of tucked away, but with an open air feel and a view of a courtyard garden. Very sweet! And like I said, it’s tucked away, but SOOOOO worth the effort to find!! Do not miss this gem!! Oh, and if you’ve never had French toast for dessert, well now’s your chance! It was truly divine! And I apologize, I only took a picture of the French toast! And one more thing, THERE WAS NO LOUD MUSIC!!! You could actually have a conversation!

A word to introduce the food: incredible. It was my first ever duck confit and the chef set the bar high. The service was phenomenal - the head waiter along with his assistant were incredibly accommodating, ensuring that I was fully aware of how long each course would take to prepare, checking in on me to ensure I am attended to, and even went so far as to give me a great suggestion of pairing wine with my meal when asked. My dessert, the pain perdu was a fantastic finish to a great meal. All of this wrapped in a very cute building with exposed ceiling beams for a nice look. For what I ordered, I felt the bill was incredibly reasonable. Thank you to the fine team at Le Jardin Saint-Germain for making my last night in Paris for this trip an incredibly special one and thank you to Les Frenchies for sharing this gem of a place shortly off of a major road.

My first Google review and they earned it. Amazing, well executed menu, great service, and from start to finish perfect. This was likely the best dining experience I have ever had.

Tips for Eating on a Budget near Jardin du Luxembourg

Dining affordably in one of Paris’s most elegant neighborhoods requires a bit of local strategy. The proximity to the Sorbonne University means that the area is actually well-equipped to handle budget diners, provided you know how to navigate the menus and the timing of French meals. Here are some essential tips to help you save money while enjoying the best food the area has to offer.

1. Embrace the "Formule" or "Menu du Jour"
Almost every bistro and café in the area offers a fixed-price menu at lunchtime. This usually includes a starter and a main course, or a main course and dessert, for a significantly lower price than ordering à la carte. Look for chalkboards outside restaurants advertising the "Formule Midi" or "Plat du Jour." These deals are often available only on weekdays until about 2:00 PM, so plan your main meal around lunch.

2. Picnic Like a Parisian
The Jardin du Luxembourg is one of the most beautiful picnic spots in the world, and eating there is completely free. Instead of paying for a sit-down meal three times a day, visit the local markets and specialty shops to assemble a feast. Head to a local boulangerie for a fresh baguette, a fromagerie for cheese, and a charcuterie for meats. Grab some fruit and a bottle of sparkling water, and you have a world-class meal for under €10.

3. Look for "À Emporter" (Takeaway)
Many restaurants and bakeries charge a premium for table service. If you order your food "à emporter" (to go), you can often avoid the service charge and the higher prices associated with terrace seating. This is particularly true for crêperies and bakeries. Taking your food to go allows you to sit on a park bench or by the Saint-Sulpice fountain and enjoy the view without the markup.

4. Drink Tap Water
In France, tap water is safe, free, and highly regulated. When dining in a restaurant, do not feel pressured to order expensive bottled water. Simply ask for "une carafe d’eau" (a pitcher of tap water). It is a standard request and will save you €5 to €8 per person on your meal. Similarly, skip the sodas and opt for the house wine by the glass if you want an alcoholic beverage, as it is often the best value on the drink menu.

5. Venture Slightly Off the Main Boulevards
Prices drop significantly the moment you step away from the Boulevard Saint-Michel or the immediate perimeter of the park. The streets closer to the Sorbonne, such as Rue Mouffetard or the smaller lanes around Odéon, are filled with student-friendly eateries. Walking just five minutes away from the tourist hotspots will reward you with lower prices, larger portions, and a more authentic local atmosphere.

Navigating the culinary landscape of the Left Bank does not have to be an expensive endeavor. With a little planning and a willingness to explore the side streets, you can enjoy some of the best food Paris has to offer without spending a fortune.

Whether you are grabbing a warm crêpe to eat on a green metal chair in the gardens or sitting down for a hearty three-course lunch, the area around the Jardin du Luxembourg offers incredible value for those who know where to look. Bon appétit!
