10 Best Vegetarian Restaurants in Arles

Arles is a city that seduces the senses long before you sit down at a table. The honeyed Provençal light, the weathered Roman stone, and the echoes of Van Gogh’s brushstrokes create an atmosphere that feels almost cinematic. Yet for many visitors, the most memorable discoveries happen not in the ruins or galleries, but on a quiet plate in a shaded courtyard. The local food scene here has evolved beyond the traditional meat-heavy Provençal stews, embracing a vibrant, plant-forward identity that feels both contemporary and deeply rooted in the surrounding farmland.

The Camargue region that cradles Arles is a generous pantry of sun-ripened vegetables, fragrant herbs, golden olive oils, and the famous Camargue red rice. This agricultural abundance makes vegetarian dining in Arles not an afterthought, but a celebration. Chefs across the city are increasingly treating vegetables as the stars of the menu rather than supporting players. Whether you are a committed vegan, a flexitarian, or simply someone who appreciates thoughtful cooking, Arles offers a surprisingly rich landscape of meat-free meals.

But finding the truly exceptional spots among the tourist traps requires a little local knowledge. Many restaurants in the historic center offer a single token vegetarian dish, often a bland pasta or a tired goat cheese salad. The best vegetarian experiences in Arles go far beyond that, showcasing seasonal produce with imagination, technique, and a deep respect for Provençal tradition. They range from fully plant-based cafes to bistros where the chef simply understands how to make vegetables sing.

This guide is designed to cut through the guesswork. It focuses on establishments that consistently deliver quality, flavor, and a genuine welcome for vegetarians. You will find places where the menu changes with the market, where the hummus is made in-house, and where the wine list complements a vegetable-forward plate as thoughtfully as any meat course. These are restaurants where you will not feel like an afterthought, but rather a valued guest.

We have considered not just the food, but the entire experience. A great vegetarian meal in Arles should come with the same atmospheric charm the city is famous for—whether that means a sun-dappled terrace, a cozy stone-walled dining room, or a lively spot on a pedestrian square. The following recommendations reflect a balance of pure vegetarian kitchens and omnivore restaurants that have earned a reputation for outstanding vegetable cookery.

Whether you are planning a dedicated culinary pilgrimage or simply want to enjoy a few excellent meals during your stay, these addresses will serve you well. From quick, healthy lunches to leisurely dinners under the stars, Arles has a vegetarian table waiting for you.

What an amazing little gem! Right in front of the amphitheater too! Vegetarian food at its best! After spending all day in the sun, the last thing we wanted was something hot and heavy, this place was perfect!!! Portions were spot on and so delicious! Do NOT hesitate to check this place out!!
William Andrew Wilson★★★★★
Hard to beat great food and an incredible view. Luckily we called this morning before they opened and we were able to secure a table for lunch. Everything was perfect, from the food to the service to the atmosphere. We will definitely come back for more! ♥️

The best place to try new dishes in Arles! My family and I loved it. We had never had vegetarian food, ever, but the dishes we tried here were so delicious; now we have to try more vegetarian dishes. We are definitely coming here again to try more of their menu whenever we visit Arles! Additionally, the two gentlemen who served us our food were so sweet and warming. We do not speak French but they really did their best to chat with us and understand us. I really recommend this restaurant. Thank you for the delicious food and the warmth of your treatment. 😊

Constantly good food and friendly staff. Superfood is a weekly staple. I love that they are vegan and vegetarian, but you don't have to follow a plant based life style to appreciate the cuisine. I know many meat eaters who consistanly choose to eat here for lunch.
Mark Grasnick★★★★★
Had the most enjoyable meal here on our recent trip. Vegan/vegetarian options that are very tasty at very reasonable prices. Staff were most helpful (English speaking as well). We also took away our dinner for later that night and had it while sitting in a park in Nimes, very French!!
James Banh★★★★★
Great vegetarian/vegan food. Lady behind the counter explained it all to us and helped us get one of the meal combos. Food was delicious and hearty. I'll be thinking of that Buddha bowl and banana bread for a long time.
Maxton Scott Coulson★★★★★
Lovely staff, accommodating of any language barrier we had. Yummy and cheap food. Keywords for others to find the place: vegetarian, vegan, soup, salad, cheap, tasty, affordable, value, healthy, air conditioning, pretty.

Beautiful place hidden away from the hot, crowded and narrow streets. The menu is small, but very good as they focus on fresh ingredients and quality. The food was amazing. The service was good, despite the fact that they were understaffed. All in all, it was a very good experience and I would definitely recommend this place.

For the last decade this local persona, this wonderful cook/chef/human being has always made gold wherever he has laid his hat in this town : simple and homely dishes at the right price. This new address is no different than the others, except this time around it’s an all-out affair in the most iconic site in town and he’s not alone in it (and that’s an understatement) Thank you Martial, Armelle and the Team❤️❤️❤️
Rufo Garay★★★★★
Don't overlook this restaurant - We had a wonderful experience from the moment we walked through the front door. The owner and head chef greeted us personally and went over all of the menu options, which vary every single day. The food took almost no time to arrive, and when it did, we were impressed by the presentation. Taste and texture were also among the many highlights. It was an experience that made it apparent how much the staff cares about providing a quality experience through their care, attention to detail, and passion. I would recommend this restaurant a thousand times over for anyone visiting Arlés.

Had the noodle and it was okay. Service is a little slow but understandable as there are many diners.

Facing the beautiful garden, a serene atmosphere plus most delicious food, makes it the best place to eat in Arle. Big bonus - one can have lunch even at 3pm.

Very friendly staff and the food is just amazing! I had the Toreau and it was delicious, you could taste the red wine in the sauce and the meat was incredibly tender! My wife had the Ravioles gratinee aux truffes and enjoyed the savoury taste thoroughly. We highly recommend this Gault Millaud Restaurant!

Excellent dishes, well presented. Menu changes daily for freshness

Everything was good, and the service was excellent. It looked only two staff were working as I visited on Sunday, and the tables were almost full. So the serving took a bit time but it was absolutely fine as they were kind and the foods were nice.
Shoubaneh hemmati★★☆☆☆
The food was good but we had to sit for half an hour just to get a glass of wine. An hour to get the food another half an hour to dessert.
Elina★★★☆☆
The starter was good. For dessert, I chose the one with peach and mascarpone. After a few bites, I couldn’t taste any mascarpone, so I asked the staff in case I had received the wrong dessert. They told me that the mascarpone was at the bottom, but even after finishing it, I still couldn’t taste it. The restaurant seemed quite busy but understaffed, so it took some time to get the staff’s attention. I was seated on the terrace, and because the waiting time was long, it felt quite cold by the end of the meal.

Great experience, seasonal and local products revisited with Chef’s twist. Highly recommended if you are looking for a modern , local and tasty French cuisine!

The food was amazingly good. We had the local specialty of taureau and also the salade with smoked trout. A beautiful patio in the back had a welcome breeze. It was quiet and tucked away from the business of the street. Cafe gourmand filled in the corners with a delightful lemon custard and chocolate mousse. Our waiter even brought bubbles for our two year old. Highly Recommend. Merci Beaucoup!

Lovely restaurant! We visited for lunch both days during our trip to Arles. Staff are so kind and friendly. View is wonderful, right next to the arena. Fresh ingredients and delicious. Hope to return.

This lovely restaurant deserves all the praise in these reviews! The location next to the colosseum is stunning, the service is utterly charming and the food is amazing., and the prices are great - no extra charges for the prime location. Our young waiter was really good at his job and had a real passion for the food and wine. We enjoyed it so much we went twice.

What a surprise! Nice little venue, without chichi, the plateau de charcuterie et fromages was outstanding.
Natalia Zaslavsky★★★★★
An unexpectedly exceptional lunch! We stopped in for a casual bite and were completely wowed. The salads were some of the best I’ve ever had—beautifully presented with fresh produce and edible flowers from their garden. The location is unbeatable, with views overlooking the Roman amphitheater, and the service was just as impressive—our waiter was warm, genuine, and incredibly accommodating. A true hidden gem made with heart in every detail. Highly recommend!

Monica Alvarez Alvarez★☆☆☆☆
We were expecting a tapas dinner, but the experience was quite disappointing. The menu was set and seemed to consist almost exclusively of cold dishes and small portions of purées or sauces: olive cream, a hummus-like purée or lentils, a small piece of zucchini with goat cheese, etc. The only bites we liked were the falafel, although the portion was very small. Furthermore, one of the dishes included chicken livers, something that wasn't clearly indicated and which we didn't even get to try. Overall, we missed having more substantial food and a more varied and balanced menu. The biggest disappointment was the wine: we ordered a glass of red and were served a drink that was almost pink, with a slightly effervescent texture and a flavor more reminiscent of cider than red wine. All this for €6 a glass, a price we felt was excessive for what we received. This style of cooking may appeal to other people, but for us the value for money was not satisfactory
Leopold Bogdan Lukač★★★★★
Great food. It's a cool and cozy little place. The sandwiches tasted great and they gave us a salad. The waitress was friendly. The menus were only in french so it was difficult to figure out what kinds of sandwiches they had because the connection wasn't the best in the part of the restaurant where we were. All in all a great restaurant, would recommend.
Stefano Cristin★★★★★
Very good food: flavorful, but balanced in such a way that your stomach is as happy as your tongue, plus lovely service, at a more than fair price

Everything we tried (including the coffee and desert) was just amazing. The staff was really kind and quick and the restaurant was clean and beautiful. We chose eat inside because of the air conditioner, but they also have a nice terrace which we will try next time. Very nice place!

BRUNCH can be a bit difficult to find in a relatively small town but we found Mazette! and enjoyed a very good brunch. It is a small restaurant with a few tables inside and a few outside. Decent menu selection. My husband had the scrambled eggs, and I had the French toast and yogurt parfait. Both were very good. We both thought the coffee was especially good. Nice location on a corner street that wasn't too busy. Highly recommend.

I had the best time in Arles and this place was definitely part of it! Team is super nice, place is lovely whether you seat on the terrace, by the counter or on the first floor, coffee omg so good and food perfectly tasty and healthy. Highly recommend! Had breakfast and 3 lunches there. Their plate, toasty and burger are perfect!
Dominic Carpin★★★★★
This place is really great the staff was tolerant of my lack of command of French I had the soft-boiled eggs with avocado, a flat white coffee and some hibiscus beverage. One of the few places that I found in Arles where you can get eggs early in the morning. Plus I got to discover that neat tool to use to crack the shell of the soft-boiled egg.
Marion Hobbs★★★★★
We had a phenomenal veggie bowl with a side of bacon at the lovely Wow! Mazzette! Restaurant in Arles France. The salted carmel cookies & the cappuccinos made a fantastic desert. The out door seating was lovely & the service was friendly & attentive. We would highly recommend Wow! Mazzette! for a very French, casual dining experience.
Andrew Cox★★★☆☆
Lovely, friendly staff, unfortunately it was let down by the food and the coffee which was, from the reviews, the reason we chose to come to Mazette. The "House Granola" was a) tiny and b) like the texture of wood chips - perhaps this is my fault as I did not see "gluten free" on the menu when I ordered it. The fruit was lovely but hardly worth the €7 compared to others I have had in France that are substantially more generous and satisfying. The Avocado with spices was disappointing as the taste I had from my partners plate had a bitter taste indicating that (I believe) a lemon seed had been let slip through and tarnished the whole taste of the guacamole. One thing we have noticed in our travels around France is the high quality of the local produce and the genuine flavour that comes through from locally sourced small producers. I have no idea where the ingredients were sourced four our meal but the poached egg here was virtually tasteless and the bacon over cooked and virtually inedible in its toughness. Unfortunately the reviews did not live up to the reality in our case and hopefully it was just an one off as the establishment has many good reviews but our experience was our reality.

Good food - I really enjoyed my lunch for €13. Seemly cooked by them and then in a self service format. About 1/3 of the price of the other local cafes, albeit for a simpler format with smaller portion sizes.

It is an absolutely amazing place. Super charming modern decor and ambiance. Very healthy and yummy food. Competent staff. I loved it and v highely recommend it.

Food comes in sealed jars with hot food heated up piping hot. Dishes are tasty, decent-sized and reasonably priced. I had a salad, Bolognese lasagna and dessert.

This is my favourite café in Old Arles. Very relaxing, open, and bright, with lovely warm cozy indoor seating, excellent and witty baristas (one of whom even kindly laughed at my bad jokes). And excellent coffee, too. They have a lovely broad selection of vegetarian and vegan food too.

Lovely staff, perfect pasta, and complimentary fizzy or flat ice cold water to fill up bottles. They had GF, lactose free, vegetarian and vegan options. Very good prices compared to places around.

Practical Tips for Vegetarian Dining in Arles

Navigating a French menu as a vegetarian can feel daunting, but Arles is more accommodating than many French cities. A little preparation and cultural awareness will dramatically improve your experience. The following tips are designed to help you eat well, avoid disappointment, and discover the best plant-based flavors the city has to offer.

First, always check opening days and hours carefully. Many restaurants in Arles close for one or two days a week, and some shut down between lunch and dinner. The best vegetarian-friendly spots are often small, independent businesses that prioritize quality of life for their staff, which means they may not be open every day. Calling ahead or checking a restaurant’s current social media page can save you a long walk across the old town.

Second, do not be shy about stating your dietary needs clearly but politely. In France, the phrase “Je suis végétarien / végétarienne” is useful, but it is even better to specify what you do not eat. Some French kitchens still consider fish to be vegetarian, so clarifying “sans viande ni poisson” (without meat or fish) is essential. A warm smile and a little French goes a long way in earning the kitchen’s cooperation.

Third, embrace the market culture. Arles has a famous market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings along the Boulevard des Lices. Even if you are staying in a hotel without a kitchen, walking through the market gives you a deep appreciation for the produce that ends up on your plate. Many stalls sell ready-to-eat items like socca, olives, tapenades, and fresh fruit that make for an excellent impromptu picnic by the Rhône.

Fourth, look beyond the word “vegetarian” on the menu. Many of the best vegetable dishes in Arles are listed as starters or side dishes. A thoughtful combination of two or three entrées can often create a more interesting meal than a single main course. Do not hesitate to ask if the kitchen can assemble a plate of seasonal vegetable sides or starters for you—many chefs are happy to do so when the restaurant is not overwhelmed.

Finally, book ahead for dinner, especially during the summer festival season. Arles is a compact city with a high volume of tourists, and the best tables fill up quickly. A reservation not only guarantees you a seat, but it also gives the kitchen advance notice of your dietary preferences. This allows the chef to prepare something special rather than improvising under pressure during a busy service.

The beauty of eating vegetarian in Arles is that you are not missing out on the region’s culinary identity—you are experiencing it in its most direct form. The tomatoes, zucchini, eggplant, and herbs that define Provençal cooking are at their most expressive when they are not hidden behind a piece of meat. This is a city where a simple plate of roasted vegetables with a drizzle of local olive oil can feel like a revelation.

As you wander the ancient streets with their ochre and honey-colored facades, let your appetite guide you to these welcoming tables. The vegetarian restaurants of Arles prove that the city’s creative spirit extends well beyond its art and architecture. Here, in the quiet ritual of a shared meal, the true generosity of Provence reveals itself—one beautiful, plant-based plate at a time.
