10 Best Vegetarian Restaurants in Aix-en-Provence

Aix-en-Provence is a city that seduces the senses long before you sit down at the table. Sun-warmed stone facades, the murmur of ancient fountains, and the scent of lavender drifting from open-air markets create an atmosphere where dining is never just about eating. For vegetarians, this Provençal gem offers a vibrant culinary landscape that moves far beyond the tired cliché of a limp side salad.

While traditional Provençal cooking often leans heavily on seafood and slow-cooked meats, a new wave of chefs and restaurateurs has embraced the region’s exceptional produce. The daily markets overflow with heirloom tomatoes, peppery arugula, sweet Cavaillon melons, and glossy eggplants, providing the perfect palette for plant-based creativity. Whether you are a strict vegan or simply seeking a lighter meal, the city delivers.

Finding the right spot in the labyrinthine streets of the Vieille Ville can feel overwhelming, especially when hunger strikes and tourist traps loom. You want a meal that honors the local terroir without compromising your dietary choices. The best vegetarian tables in Aix understand that flavor comes first; they rely on olive oil, herbes de Provence, and wood-fired ovens rather than processed substitutes.

From cozy bohemian cafes tucked behind the Cours Mirabeau to chic bistros serving organic natural wines, the options are surprisingly diverse. Some specialize in globally inspired bowls, while others focus on reinterpreting French classics using only vegetables. It is entirely possible to experience the true soul of Provençal cuisine without a single piece of animal protein.

This curated guide cuts through the noise to highlight the most reliable, delicious, and welcoming vegetarian-friendly restaurants in the city. We have prioritized establishments that consistently source high-quality ingredients, offer clear menu labeling, and provide a memorable atmosphere. You will find options ranging from quick, healthy lunches to romantic, candlelit dinners.

Here is our selection of the ten best vegetarian restaurants in Aix-en-Provence, ensuring every meal is as beautiful as the city itself.

Rare find 100% vegan restaurant in this dairy focused country! Beautifully situated in an alley, the façade as well as the interior decoration is very cute, the staff is very friendly. Food wasn’t “wow”, but definitely better than average.

What a wonderful restaurant with amazing vegan dishes in the beautiful Aix en Provence. The server seems to also be the chef, and he works hard. Our table ordered the pasta, the ribs and a middle Eastern dish plus two fabulous appetizers. I highly recommend this restaurant for vegans and non vegans alike. It was a welcome relief after searching through hundreds of menus across France for vegan dishes on our trip.
Joe Cort★★★★★
Finding a fully vegan restaurant in France is tough at the best of times, but to discover one that delivers delicious, creative dishes at a very reasonable price is one in a million! We ended up having a 3-course lunch and had zero regrets, as it was one of the best plant-based meals we've ever had. To top it off, the serving & cooking all appeared to be carried out by a one-man band, who was super friendly & accommodating. Highlights were the Aubergine Muffin & Cannelloni, which had a sensational "ricotta" inside.
Mila Staneva★★★★★
Amazing place! Super small and cozy, delicuous vegan food. I loved the lasagna and the buddha bowl. But most of all: the shallots&mushroom tart. Would love to go back to try everything else from the menu.

It's just a One man show and not not a high dining experience, and i like this approach, but it seems that instead of focusing on control everything in person, it's only a cost reduction and everything comes from a scratch in a most easygoing way. I really feel guilty concentrating on the negative side of the experience, but can't help myself and have to deal with it not living up to my expectations. Vibes: water offered ahead of order ( good). No change of cutlery between dishes, capsule coffee, sounds of intense use of microwave oven, chipped glassware. 1/5 What really puzzles me is that the water was cold and the white wine was served warm but with a bowl of ice cubes. (this moment I began to question myself if I'm really in France or maybe am i being pushed to commit a crime) 1/5 Tart echalottes: Too much vinegar on salad leaves, a bit to stiff tart dough, but very nice baked with caramelized top onion. 3.5/5 Burger with seitan pattie: seitan patty is way too soft and mushy, the bun is hard crispy outside and soggy inside, threatening to fall apart any time, vegan (possible cashew) cheese just should not exist, the red onion rings give nice crisp and sharpness. baked (likely just microwaved) finger potatoes are absolutely miserable with thick peel and soft tasteless puree-like flesh. Salad leaves overloaded with vinegar again. 2/5 Dessert: microwave steamed chocolate cake (I'm lost here - why even put it in microwave? Unless it was frozen, probably), a bit chewy. 2/5 Interiors are simple and modest, cheap furniture with gaps between the planks of the tabletop, that could send your glass in a lying position, and I really respect that simplicity, there are vinyl envelopes on the walls, from Elvis and the doors to iron maiden and Lana del Rey. 4.5/5

Feels great to see the emerging of vegan restaurants in France. The food is great. Well balanced menu. I ordered a burger and a cheesecake, and I must admit that they were delicious. 🧀 🍰 It was the first time here at ‘La Cabane en Ville’ but certainly not the last. It’s a small restaurant where the owner (I suppose) manages everything including the cover and cooking. Quite efficient I must say! 🧑‍🍳 One thing that I really liked about La Cabane en Ville is that it doesn’t have a physical menu. You’ll find blackboards on all sides of the walls and the menu is written on them with coloured chalks. 🌈 The decor certainly gives away a vintage feel with all the records of Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Madonna and many other great artists. 🎵 I had a great time at La Cabane with some great food and my book. Because it’s a small restaurant, please book in advance.

Very nice and authentic place in an otherwise quite touristy area. Properly done soft scramble with good seasoning served with incredible sourdough. Pancakes were fluffy and luxurious but not too sweet and very fruit forward. The smoothie was also well balanced. One of the best breakfasts I've had on the go.
Ozlem Geyik★★★★☆
I went for breakfast, it was a very hot day, around 10, I was lucky to find a table in shade. In half an hour it got crowded and the service was very slow. The food was ok
Philip Slingerland★★★★★
We came here after seeing great reviews and we were not let down. The service we experienced for lunch today was warm and welcoming. The server took the time to make sure we understood every ingredient on their menu (for us English speakers). And the food was phenomenal. Clearly fresh, in season, and satisfying dishes. Highly recommended.

The BEST chai latte I have ever had. Everything was spectacular. The chai was creamy with hints of cinnamon, the pear smoothie healed my weary soul, the sourdough bread was perfect, and the pancakes were thick, fluffy, beautifully arranged and delicious with a syrup that was subtly sweet. I only wish I were staying here longer. The cafe was very quiet and had many locals, so it was a nice place to enjoy a peaceful morning and enjoy the start of my day.
Fayth Liew★★★★★
Hearty, yummy, fresh-tasting food here! We loved it so much that we ate here twice in 3 days. You can tell the folks put in heart and effort into curating the seasonal menus ❤️ would definitely come back the next time!

What a cute spot! Very bohemian vibes and very clean. Lots of seating outside and inside, but we opted for inside as it seemed cooler. We had the pancakes and the chicken pita. Both were delicious!

Very central, yet no traffic. Great place to sit outside and enjoy a breakfast or brunch. Gets busy around midday, people from offices nearby getting a bite. Very friendly staff, wonderful food. The brunch offer gets you one healthy (yet tasty) dish and something sweet (I do recommend the pancakes here), as well as a hot and a cold drink. Coffee is excellent and the orange juice is fresh. Works great for Veggies.
Alex Weipert★★★★★
We were visiting Aix from Canada and decided to check this place out. The main thing that stuck out about this place was the staff and service! Everyone was so friendly and made sure we were taken care of! The food also was great portions for the a la carte menu. We got the English muffin and the vegan avocado toast and loved them both. Thank you for making us feel welcome.

Very nice ambiance with lors of colors and good atmosphere! ☀️ Maison nosh has a taste for good feeling: smiling, nice gestures, friendly staff I Recommend it !!
Kimball's Corner★★★★★
Really delicious breakfast. I had a latte, a slice of the apple and almond cake and the French toast with truffle oil. It was perfect for me! My hubby had the brunch which came with avocado toast, caramel pancakes, a latte and a fresh juice. Everything was delightful! 🧡
Jake Cross★★★★☆
Good overall, not memorable though. Food was OK. Drinks were nice. Nice seating area outside. Had better food in other places across France. Liked it but wouldn't rush back. Would try some other places in the search for better food. 3.5/5 overall.

Mesa is a hidden gem in a quiet corner near the Palais du Justice. It has one of the most creative menus in Aix, based around Mediterranean and Levantine cuisine, with an emphasis on fresh seasonal and local products. Ludovic is in charge of the cosy dining room and shaded terrace, and very knowledgeable about the wines on the handpicked list. Chef Evangeline is in the kitchen, single-handedly producing the flavoursome and texturally interesting dishes on the menu, which changes weekly. There are always vegetarian and vegan options. Lunch Tuesday-Saturday & mezze on Friday nights. Brunch one Sunday per month. Reservations are a must!

Great little Resto. We stopped for lunch and had a vegan salade. Loved it. Menu is different at dinner but we need to get it together in time - reservations NEEDED!

The owner was really friendly! We sat down for coffee and a dessert. The Panna Cotta was well made with quality ingredients. The coffee was great too. Perfect place to stop by and chill when you walk around Aix.

We came here two days in a row for breakfast. Not only was the breakfast excellent, but the coffee was definitely a highlight. It’s a wonderful place to enjoy a relaxed breakfast or brunch with friends. Starting the day with a great cup of coffee is something this place truly offers. We even ended up buying some coffee beans to take home. The service was excellent as well. ☕️✨
Kyle K★★★★★
I had a delicious brunch and good quality coffee here. They made espresso with Ethiopia single origin coffee and filter coffee with Peru coffee. But maybe type of coffee they use will probably keep changing. so satisfied that I drank every last drop.
Olya Vovk★★★★★
Had a wonderful time at KAVA AIX! It’s usually a challenge to find a spot for a large group, but here it was incredibly easy to get a table for all of us. I tried the Eggs Factor — scrambled eggs with beans and truffle gouda — and it was absolutely delicious! High-quality food at very affordable prices. Highly recommend for a group brunch.
Lejla Abasova★★★★★
High-quality, delicious specialty coffee ☕️ and a very friendly team. They even took care to package the coffee I bought to take with me, which was such a lovely touch. The café itself is very cozy, and I’ll be happy to come back when I’m passing through the city again 😌

Mediterranean food! Delicious! The Kefta pita sandwich ( beef) is full of goodness with lebnah dip as an add on. The pita bread is so soft and pillowy. We ate there twice for lunch. The first time we ordered a platter + dip to share. It is very filling and flavorful food served in a lively atmosphere. If you can make a reservation do or walk in. You may have to wait but it’s well worth it. Desserts looked delicious though we didn’t have room to try.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Excellent hummus and outstanding falafel — both full of flavor and perfectly executed. The service is warm, pleasant, and genuinely attentive. The portions are generous and satisfying. Don’t skip the desserts — they’re absolutely worth it. Everything feels fresh, well thought out, and made with real care. One of the best Mediterranean spots around. Highly recommended.
Ana Rayes★★★★★
Best Israeli food I’ve ever had, and that’s coming from someone from New York. Every dish was outstanding, fresh, and packed with flavor. The service was equally impressive: warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. And they are dog friendly! A special thank you to Elliot for the recommendation, it was one of the highlights of our trip to Aix-en-Provence. Highly recommend!!!
Marina Manti★★★★★
Very good Israeli cousin. The personal working there was very friendly and they even gave us a doggy bag. Big portion, everything good, also the dessert!

I ordered Pita Falafel and it was excellent. The falafels were outside crispy and inside soft how it‘s supposed to be! The restaurant was super crowdy, the ambiance was loud and hectic. It stressed me a little bit but I‘d come again for the awesome food 🙂

Small spot with the owner right behind the counter. Everything is homemade, and most dishes are cooked from scratch right in front of you in the open kitchen. The falafel plate was fresh and the right portion size. But if you feel like eating a bit more: you can get more hummus and pita at no extra charge. Service can be a little slow because everything is made fresh, but it’s absolutely worth the wait. Next time I’m in Aix, I’ll definitely stop by again.
Benjamin Walsh★★★★★
Amazing food, vegetarian, healthy and so tasty, menus even come with incredible free homemade lemonade. From the food to the atmosphere to the service, everything was exceptional, and the owner is so nice and welcoming. 10 out of 10 would definitely recommend !
Louisa Silver★★★★★
Wow, this guy is legendary! Such friendly service and the food was next level. I had a falafel salad with aubergine, and it was 100 times better than anything I'd had in other restaurants, and a much better price. The food is completely fresh and made to order and to your taste. Can't recommend this enough for both adults and children - my kids loved it!
Grace Campe★★★★★
Excellent spot. You can tell how fresh everything is. All homemade pitas and falafels too. Some of the best falafel I’ve ever had. Great option to stumble upon—and it’s open between lunch and dinner so you can get something mid afternoon unlike a lot of other French restaurants.
Justin Georgescu★★★★★
Absolutely lovely spot. We came in as a group of 7 and were welcomed very kindly. The server was incredibly nice and the food was delicious. The wait was rather short too. They have options for meat enjoyers, vegetarians and vegans too. Absolutely check this place out if you want to enjoy a delicious meal while keeping it budget friendly!

Tips for Dining Vegetarian in Aix-en-Provence

Navigating a city with a strong meat and seafood heritage is easy when you know how to look for the hidden gems and understand the local dining rhythm. While the restaurants listed above offer dedicated menus, expanding your options requires a little local know-how. The following tips will help you eat well, avoid disappointment, and discover the true depth of Provençal produce during your stay.

  1. Embrace the "Formule" at Lunch: Many high-end restaurants that seem meat-heavy at dinner offer a "formule" or "plat du jour" at lunch that is often vegetarian. French chefs love showcasing market vegetables, so check the chalkboards outside bistros around midday.
  2. Look for "Cuisine du Marché": This phrase indicates the chef cooks according to the market’s daily yield. Restaurants with this philosophy are almost always happy to compose a beautiful vegetable-focused plate on request, even if the printed menu lacks a specific option.
  3. Explore the International Quarter: Aix is a university town with influences from Lebanon, India, and Morocco. These cuisines naturally feature legumes, grains, and vegetables. A vegetarian couscous or a mezze platter often provides more variety and protein than a standard French side dish.
  4. Beware of Hidden Animal Fats: In traditional Provençal cooking, soups and vegetable stews (like ratatouille or soupe au pistou) might be enriched with chicken stock or lardons. Always confirm with your server by asking, "Est-ce que c’est 100% végétarien?" (Is it 100% vegetarian?).
  5. Hit the Markets for a Picnic: If you find yourself between meal times or want to save money, the Place Richelme market is a paradise. Grab a fougasse bread, some local goat cheese, tapenade, and heirloom tomatoes to create a world-class vegetarian picnic under the plane trees.
  6. Use the Word "Végétalien" Carefully: If you are vegan, "végétarien" is not enough. French cuisine loves butter and cream. Clearly state "Je suis végétalien(ne)" (I am vegan) and specify "sans beurre, sans crème, sans fromage" (without butter, cream, or cheese) to ensure clarity.

Aix-en-Provence rewards the curious eater, and vegetarians will find that the city’s heart beats strongly in its gardens and orchards. By mixing the dedicated plant-based restaurants with a willingness to explore the markets and communicate with chefs, you will experience a side of French gastronomy that is both modern and deeply rooted in the land.

The memory of a perfectly charred vegetable tart or a lavender-infused dessert on a warm evening terrace is what makes this city so special. Bon appétit, and enjoy every fresh, sun-drenched bite that this beautiful corner of Provence has to offer.
