10 Best Cafes in Toledo Old Town

Toledo’s Old Town is a labyrinth of narrow, cobbled streets where centuries of history echo off stone walls. Yet beyond the cathedral spires and medieval gates lies a quietly thriving modern café culture. For locals and travelers alike, these spaces offer a welcome pause between museum visits and uphill walks.

Finding a genuinely good coffee in a city so focused on tourism can be surprisingly tricky. Many terraces rely on foot traffic rather than the quality of their espresso. That is why knowing where the residents go makes all the difference.

The best cafés in this historic quarter blend atmosphere with craftsmanship. You might sip a flat white in a restored 15th-century courtyard or enjoy a specialty pour-over beside ancient synagogue ruins. The contrast between old stone and modern roasting techniques is part of the charm.

This guide focuses on venues that respect both the bean and the city’s heritage. We have considered coffee quality, pastry freshness, service consistency, and interior comfort. Whether you need a quick cortado or a leisurely brunch, there is a spot for you.

Many of these establishments roast their own beans or source from respected Spanish micro-roasters. You will also find dietary accommodations, from oat milk to gluten-free cakes. The emphasis is on genuine hospitality rather than rushed, impersonal service.

Because Toledo’s Old Town is compact, you can easily visit two or three of these cafés in a single morning. Most are within a ten-minute walk of the main square, Plaza de Zocodover. Wear comfortable shoes, as some streets are steep and uneven.

Below, you will find a curated list of the ten best cafés in Toledo Old Town, based on firsthand visits and local recommendations.

Super friendly owner, we are from US and traveling with 4 little kids.. we had a large order of 6 smoothies and so many pastries etc. Everything was delicious and the owner was so delightful, patient and kind. I would highly recommend this place.. I was also so relieved that he spoke amazing English as well and was fun to chat with. I highly recommend this place and it lives up to the high reviews!!!
Haley★★★★★
Amazing cappuccino with warm and friendly service. We also bought a bag of Costa Rican beans which the owner graciously ground for us. Tiny venue with only one seat so you will likely take your coffee to go 🙂
Jane Mathias★★★★★
Hands down the best coffee shop in Toledo. Stopped by to grab their mocha and it was delicious. They have beans from all over the coffee famous countries in the world.. the owner is kind and makes some delicious coffee and coffee art. Do remember they have a minimum of 10€ to pay via card and also their operational hours. Overall a fantastic place to grab your cup of coffee when in Toledo.
Kooky Critic★★★★★
Excellent espresso with a barista trained in Italy and surrounding, understands his craft, and takes time with every customer. A definite must stop visit when in Toledo. The chai latte was also sublime.
R H★★★★★
Friendly barista run speciality coffee shop in Toledo. It's the only speciality coffee shop in the town. Shame they don't have iced coffees though. There is no indoor seating either. But great place to grab a coffee and head out.

This place is so cosy. The teas were really delicious as well. I tried the “natillas de la abuela” milk tea blend which had a black tea base with cinnamon, orange, and saffron. It was so rich and fragrant. They use proper house blends of tea leaves and spices instead of tea bags, and the teas are unsweetened so you can add your own sugar to your likeness. The leche merengada was sweet and refreshing too. Overall, really reasonably priced place with good vibes and a huge variety of artisanal tea and non-tea options.
Ion Taranu★★★★★
This place has a most impressive selection of coffees and teas, one more delicious than the next. It has a nice terrace with ample shade. The interior is very beautifully decorated in mudejar style, inspired on the Alhambra from Granada. Finally, we received the most friendly and helpful service.
Alexa RCifre★★★★★
Amazing selection of teas - and coffee! We ordered a café bombón (espresso with condensed milk) and a black tea with milk, vanilla, cardamom and cinnamon. The environment inside is very chilled and cozy, I loved the Turkish tea room decor - the only thing I would change is the music to complete the whole atmosphere (like Arabian music, if you know what I mean). The service was really good as well, both waitresses very friendly 🙂
Su Ni★★★★★
A unique tea place that features Arabic style with many tea options, plus normal coffee options. The place is also built in Arabic style, with the special interior design and the seating were also in a unique way, like sitting on the floor or on a little bench.

Very nice place. Try their Viennese coffee, it's quite close to what you get in Austria

The Marzipan Cake was so delicious, making me want to have a second piece. The sweetness is not overpowering. We came here to avoid the rain but turned out to be having the best afternoon tea.
Princess Irukwu★★★★★
According to the tour guide, this is first non religious institution to make marzipan cakes commercially in Toledo. Marzipan cakes were exclusively made and sold by the nuns and this cafe uses the original recipes from the nuns. In Summary, it was absolutely delicious and I loved every bite of it. The cake is really sweet with a lovely texture. It was also quite filling and perfect as a snack. The staff were absolutely gorgeous and the atmosphere is pleasant. Do stop by this cafe if you are ever in Toledo!
David Firth★★★★★
We got one of the only two tables in here, so that may change how we feel about this place. 2 pm on a Thursday and it was empty. We got two of each of the different mazapan, two waters, and a coffee from the self-serve machine. The coffee was only EUR 1:50, but it was terrible...far too sweet and I didn't ask for sugar. There were 7 total different mazapan each, and we feel that they pretty much all taste the same, so I would recommend getting just a couple each. They are good, so that's not the issue, it's just that 7 was too many! The server was lovely.
Feng Liu★☆☆☆☆
I didn’t see any service here. Sit by a table for a while, none clean the dirt table left by previous guest. Food is too sweet, no much flavour. The smoothie I ordered were very chunky, not smooth at all. Overall disappoint both food, drink and service.
Philip Woo★★★☆☆
We had a cappuccino and Churros with hot. chocolate. Honestly , it wasn’t great. The strange thing is that, the price on the menu and our bill doesn’t tally when I checked after i left. It wasn’t a great difference but still it’s not right.

You walk inside and feel immediately like you're in an episode of friends with the 90s music and the iconic sofa. We ordered an Vanilla flavoured coffee which was delicious, as well as the cookie and the muffin which were also very good. It's definitely a must see for every friends fan and I'll definitely come back!
Alexa RCifre★★★★★
Initially I thought this was going to be a tourist trap, but I’m so glad I was wrong! This is the perfect spot for fans of ‘Friends’ and general coffee lovers who want to chill while having a drink. I loved the cozy, welcoming vibes, relaxing music and really great service - the waiter is super friendly and attentive! We ordered two iced lattes and a slice of pumpkin cake, it was all delicious (cake not pictured because I ate it all before I remembered to take a photo… it was that good). Highly recommended!! 🙂

Despite its international appeal and branding, this café is very much intended for the locals in the neighborhood. The location is a bit hard to find, food and coffee were decent but nothing to write home about and the staff is not English speaking. Still a nice place to stop and enjoy a cup of coffee if you’re in Toledo.
Kurt Dresner★★★★★
Very friendly and accommodating staff. We hung out here to pass a hot afternoon with A/C, iced drinks, and a cool Friends-inspired interior. Definitely a place intended for the locals and a hike from the tourist area of town, but that's exactly what we needed.
Kristen★★★★☆
Coffee and pastries were good. As a huge fan of Friends this was really fun to stop in and see something that resembles the TV show.

Excellent experience. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with friendly and attentive service that made us feel right at home. The food was absolutely delicious, full of flavor, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. The service was also quick, and the staff made sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal. I would definitely come back and highly recommend this place to anyone looking for great food and outstanding service.

Great experience, everything fresh and fast!! Must visit in beautiful toledo for an authentic breakfast! Rotos for breakfast?? Shure why not

Food tastes fresh and delicious. The oxtail here is amazing. Big chunks of fall off the bone oxtail. Much bigger portions than you’d get in the west
Pamela Lee★☆☆☆☆
Everything was fine until I noticed that our server was treating the table next to us differently. He was not saying pleasantries to us. He didn’t check up on us. He didn’t smile at us. I wanted more hot water with my tea so I brought my cup to him at the bar and asked for a refill please. He filled it not even half way. There were three people working at the restaurant. An older gentleman. He was very friendly. He acknowledged us and said bye to us. There was a young lady serving other tables. Our server was a young man. He was mostly working behind the bar. It wasn’t very busy.
Wen LIN★★★★★
Found this restaurant on Google Maps and was very satisfied! The staff were welcoming, friendly, and always smiling. There’s a good variety of breakfast options at reasonable prices. We tried three different dishes, and each one was excellent. The restaurant itself is cozy and comfortable—truly a pleasant place to dine. Highly recommended!

Friendly service, a wide assortment of milk, lovely pastries. Had coffee with coconut milk, it was the best. There's a terrace area, but if you don't want to be in the sun there are a few indoor seats facing the cathedral as well. Overall, amazing place to stop by in Toledo for refreshments. Was a lovely stop in my Toledo day! A Quaint little café with top tier service.

Best coffee shop in Toledo! High quality ingredients and everything tastes excellent. The staff is hip and cool. We tried a little of everything and it was all great and on the healthier side. We will be back.
Paige Preedy★★★★★
Beautiful place with the best service. Amazing vegan food, all homemade and the most lovely ladies here. Would come back everyday if I could!
Anastasia Yevtushenko★★★★★
Very nice place, friendly baristas and good coffee. Everything is vegan, ice latte with the coconut milk was amazing! I liked the interior, it’s very cozy. I also liked the terrace.

I’m not vegan and usually don’t get coffees based on alternative milk - but I’m so happy I found this place! The caramel oat latte was perfect in strength and sweetness. I also had a carrot cake (massive!) and a “salmon” bagel which was also very nice. We even went back to try more coffee options (and there’s plenty)!

Came here for lunch unplanned. Being vegan, most everything I checked on Happy Cow was closed on Tuesday. We just stumbled on this place (between city hall and Santo Tomé). Turned out to be a fantastic find. Had Beyond burgers, veggie paella, ane either vegetarian or vegan pizza. We had the vegetarian pizza without cheese (got mushrooms, no vegan cheese). Good service, calm atmosphere (Nora Jones type of music playing). They did have a giant table in the middle, so I could see it as noisy if a big group of people were seated.
Mohammed Daimi★★★★★
"I had an early lunch at this Toledo café and was impressed: the service was fast, the staff was accommodating, and the quality was top-notch, especially given the incredibly cheap prices—the true star! The one drawback was the calamari bocadillo, which took too long, was rubbery, and quite oily (would not recommend that specific dish). However, for a drink or a quick stop, I would absolutely recommend this place.
Andrei Krochin★★★★★
Good place for breakfast in Toledo. The place does not look particularly fancy, however the food and the service are amazing! Food is super good for the price and the service is very polite and helpful! One additional advantage of the place: they are open and serve breakfast “early” in the morning. We were there a Sunday around 10:00 and most of the places were still closed. Not this one 🙂
Tracy Sung★★★★★
What a hidden gem in Toledo! I wanted to try some kind of vegan sausage in Spain to see how their plant-based scene is and I was not disappointed. Super friendly and fast service and delicious food. Highly recommend trying this place out!
Ulaş Bardak★★★☆☆
A no frills fare, especially the before noon menu. That being said, it can be a quick stop for travellers worn out from walking around. The Spanish potato omelette in particular is very decent and the service is good. That being said, you can walk to a bunch of other places which are going to offer you more.

This place is way overpriced for what you get. The portions are so small you can barely find the food on the plate. One of our friends ordered a vegan pizza that wasn't even sliced, and the order of calamari only came with a few pieces. Don't even get me started on the large tagliatelle marine pasta. The portion was so tiny it felt like a starter rather than a main course. To give credit where it’s due, the staff are amazing, very kind and accommodating. You get great service, but the food just doesn't live up to it. I would recommend their ice cream, though.
S G★★★★★
Nice spot for beverages & desserts. We only had the gelato, but they had a lot of flavors. It was really good! The mandarin is a bit bitter, but paired well with mango.
Ken Maverick★★★★★
This restaurant is conveniently located in the heart of the city. We chose to dine indoors rather than on the outdoor terrace, as there were several smokers outside and we preferred to avoid the cigarette smoke. It is also worth noting that the prices differ depending on whether you sit inside or outside. The food was delicious, and we thoroughly enjoyed every dish we ordered. The restrooms were clean and well maintained, which added to the positive dining experience. The staff were friendly, attentive, and always willing to assist. Overall, we had a very pleasant experience and would gladly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area. ¡Gracias!
Macy Schilling★★★★★
Everything was phenomenal. I got the seafood paella it was so yummy. Exactly what I needed after exploring Toledo. Raul was so kind and even took a photo for us, and a selfie with us!!
Brenda Sanchez★☆☆☆☆
Very, very rude! Wanted to order spaghetti bolognese for take away for my daughter. Waited by the sign but nobody stopped so we sat at the table (side note - we had just purchased a dessert for take away but she said we couldn't order food with her) with the take away bag. An extremely rude older man came out, pointed at the bag and told us to go. We attempted to explain we wanted to order and again he pointed and said go. This was on a Sunday evening and there were atleast 15 empty tables. Do not waste your money here!! We walked 5 minutes and found a better option!

If you're looking for the best paella in Toledo, this is the place to go! The rice was perfectly cooked, full of flavor, and every ingredient tasted incredibly fresh. The seafood was tender and generous, and the seasoning was authentic without being overpowering. The portions were excellent, and the service was warm, attentive, and welcoming. The atmosphere made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Easily one of the best meals I've had in Spain—highly recommended, and I can't wait to come back!
Ali Zartash-Lloyd★★★★★
I have to admit we did not eat here, as we stopped to quench our thirst in the middle of the day before we passed out in the heat! The breakfast menu looked amazing and I am not sure if many people can eat so much food, but hey, but sadly that was our last day in Toledo so never got a chance to try it. The owner was kind an attentive, and even brought out water for our little dog and held it for him to make it easier to drink (how kind is that?). We will definitely try the breakfast next time we are in Toledo, just as as challenge to see if I can finish it!
Adam★★★★☆
A nice spot by the cathedral. In a small, reasonably quiet square and the kitchen doesn’t seem to take the usual break in the afternoon. It was open at 5pm. Friendly server (possibly the manager / owner). Prices ok (tapas typically €12). Food is fine - not amazing, not bad. Probably better than other options in the area.
Clint Sanders★★★★★
Excellent location to take a break. Churros were excellent. Chocolate was a little bit on the watery side though.
rmallari★★★★★
Excellent food and attentive/friendly staff. We had their tasting menu, 5 tapas - venison stew, carcamusas, manchego ratatouille with tuna, anchovies with tartar sauce, Russian salad. We also had paella negra which is also good. It's a nice lunch place.

Nice place with quirky decor. Got in easily on a Sunday night at the end of June. No tapas provided with our bottle of wine, others around us seemed to have olives. We shared a tuna salad and Torreznos. Both really good although would have preferred the salad without the balsamic glaze. The bill came to 39.70, cards accepted.
David Geraghty★★★★★
Stopped for a lunchtime meal. Had a nice ham and cheese pizza with a bowl of salad which was enough for two. Good choice of drinks available. Staff very helpful and restaurant looked very clean.
Gavin Russell★★★★★
Fast service, good food, and helpful staff. Just what we wanted. Had a Moroccan salad, tortellini, and lasagne. Food was lovely and arrived quickly. And a nice vibe in the place.
Michael Jackson★★★★★
Great food and even better drinks. I was craving a craft IPA and found a local Toledo one. Excellent local food to boot.
Dominika Protčenko★★★★☆
Overall, a nice place for lunch. The waitress was very friendly and recommended a delicious local beer brewed in Toledo, which we really enjoyed. As for the food, the croquettes were very tasty. However, the pizza with jamón from the express menu was dry and tasted like it might have been frozen, so we didn’t enjoy it as much. Overall, a decent place for a casual lunch.

Practical Tips for Enjoying Cafés in Toledo Old Town

Navigating the café scene in Toledo requires a little local knowledge. The rhythm of the day, the layout of the streets, and the customs around ordering can all affect your experience. These practical tips will help you blend in and make the most of your coffee stops.

  1. Mind the Spanish breakfast hours. Many cafés open early for coffee and toast, but kitchens often pause between breakfast and lunch. If you want a full brunch menu, aim for before 11:30 AM or after 1:00 PM.

  2. Order at the bar for a quick cortado. If you are in a hurry, standing at the bar is faster and often cheaper than sitting at a table. In Spain, a “café con leche” is similar to a latte, while a “cortado” is a smaller, stronger espresso with a splash of milk.

  3. Ask about the daily pastry special. Bakeries and cafés in Toledo often feature seasonal sweets, such as marzipan-based treats or torrijas during Holy Week. Do not hesitate to ask what is fresh from the oven that morning.

  4. Carry a little cash. While most established cafés now accept cards, some smaller, family-run spots in the Old Town still prefer cash for small purchases under five euros.

  5. Look beyond the main square. Plaza de Zocodover is convenient but often crowded and pricier. Walking just three or four minutes down a side street will reveal quieter, more authentic options with better coffee.

  6. Be patient with seating. Many historic buildings have small interiors but lovely hidden patios or upstairs rooms. If the front looks full, ask the staff if there is additional seating in the back before leaving.

Toledo’s café scene rewards those who wander with curiosity. The best experiences often come from turning down an unassuming alley and finding a door that opens into a cool, quiet room smelling of fresh espresso and warm bread. Let the city’s slower pace guide you from one cup to the next.

Whether you are starting your day before the cathedral opens or seeking shade during the afternoon heat, these cafés offer more than caffeine. They provide a genuine sense of place, where the past and present of Toledo meet over a well-made cup.
