10 Best Beaches Near Palma de Mallorca

Palma de Mallorca serves as the sun-drenched gateway to the Balearic Islands, offering far more than just a historic city break. While the capital is famous for its stunning Gothic cathedral and vibrant tapas bars, the true magic of this Mediterranean paradise often lies just beyond the city limits. With a coastline that stretches for miles in every direction, visitors are spoiled for choice when it comes to finding the perfect spot to swim, sunbathe, or simply unwind.

The geography of the Bay of Palma creates a unique coastal environment that caters to vastly different tastes. To the west, the rugged cliffs of the Serra de Tramuntana plunge dramatically into the sea, creating secluded pebble coves that feel wild and untouched. To the east, the landscape flattens out into long stretches of fine, white sand that gently slope into shallow, turquoise water, making it ideal for families and casual swimmers.

Choosing the right beach is essential to maximizing your holiday experience, as each stretch of sand has its own distinct personality. Some beaches are bustling social hubs with beach clubs, water sports, and constant activity, while others are quiet retreats where the loudest sound is the gentle lapping of waves. Whether you are traveling with toddlers, seeking a romantic sunset, or looking for a party atmosphere, the area around Palma has a shoreline tailored to your needs.

Accessibility is one of the greatest advantages of staying in the capital. Unlike more remote parts of the island that require a rental car, many of the best beaches near Palma de Mallorca are easily reachable by public bus, bicycle, or even on foot. This convenience allows you to spend the morning exploring the narrow streets of the Old Town and be cooling off in the Mediterranean Sea just twenty minutes later.

Water quality and safety are top priorities for travelers, and the local government takes this seriously. Many of the beaches in this region consistently earn the Blue Flag designation, an international certification that guarantees excellent water quality, environmental management, and safety services. Lifeguards are typically on duty during the high season, and the calm waters of the bay are generally safe for swimmers of all ages.

The local beach culture is also a major draw for food lovers. Unlike secluded coves where you must pack your own supplies, the beaches surrounding Palma are lined with traditional chiringuitos (beach bars) and high-end restaurants. Here, you can step straight off the sand to enjoy fresh seafood, paella, and a glass of chilled local wine without ever having to put your shoes back on.

To help you navigate the coastline and find your perfect spot in the sun, we have compiled a list of the top destinations based on accessibility, water quality, amenities, and overall beauty. Whether you are looking for a full-service resort beach or a natural escape, this guide will help you plan your perfect day by the sea.

Free, public beach close to souvenir shops and local restaurants. There is a life guard on duty, as well as public restrooms, and a couple of bar options. The beach was crowded when we went twice but overall, very nice beach itself with amazing views and great swimming water!
Chin Wei Ho★★★★★
One of the most beautiful beaches near Palma, just a short bus ride away. You absolutely have to catch it on a sunny day to watch the sun rays shimmer off the transparent waters. My only regret is not spending more time here!
Dave T★★★★☆
Really nice beach with stunning blue water but it feels a bit cramped not because it is but because the high rise hotels are almost on top of you and really makes you feel fenced in.
Rachel Walker★★★★★
One of the two nicer beaches in Palma. Decently sized but does get busy. Nice smooth sand and extremely clear water with no rocky parts
Kevin MacCarthy★★★★☆
Loved the water and sand on this beach. Shallow entry, not rocky at all easy to walk into. Not a huge beach area but well kept. Some stationary umbrellas and open area too. Thoroughly enjoyed. There are two restaurant/bars at beach level for drinks and bar type food. Would love if they both upped their game but decent.

Palma beach is a long sandy beach that I have been to many times on my travels to Palma Mallorca. It is a popular beach in downtown Palma near many attractions such as the cathedral and Parc de la mar as well as the port of Palma and many others. This beach is a beach along the nice blue waters of the Mediterranean Sea and is popular for locals and tourists but does not have any to very little shade. Also next to the beach is a walking ,running promenade as well as a bike Path. You are never too far away from the beach if you need a break to get something to eat or drink as there are many places near bye from restaurants and bars to grocery stores and more. You may even catch a nice sunset in the evening.

Beautiful sandy beach with gorgeous blue water.

The commercially developed beach with white silky sand. It lies at the end of the Palma coastal cycle path and promenade, 8 miles east of Palma city centre, the beach is over 3 miles long. Love the boardwalk and the beach ambiance.

What a heartbreaking experience. From afar, this beach looks like a dream — turquoise water, soft sand, and the promise of a relaxing day by the sea. But step closer, and it’s an environmental disaster. The beach is covered in litter — plastic bottles, food wrappers, cigarette butts, broken glass, and worse. The sea itself is no better — I swam straight into floating trash, including plastic bags and what looked like part of an old chair. It’s absolutely disgraceful. It’s clear that there is little to no maintenance or care from the city or local authorities. No visible bins, no clean-up efforts, and no signage encouraging visitors to keep the beach clean. Tourists and locals alike deserve better — and more importantly, so does the ocean. This place could be a natural gem, but it’s been left to rot under a mountain of garbage. More awareness is needed in this issue and until serious clean-up and conservation efforts are made, avoid this beach at all costs.

Closer to the hotel that we have stayed. It's a pretty beach but can get busy due to people playing beach volleyball. Early morning visit is fantastic especially if you want to glimpse the sunrise. The sea can get a lot of seaweeds in the afternoon but you can still see the fishes (better bring the goggles). If you occupy a sunbed, you will be charged 24€, if no mattress around €19 but basically you can occupy the sunbeds after 5pm for free since the people in charge there will be gone by that time.

The sand here is simply fantastic—super fine-grained, and you can shake it off your skin with ease as soon as it dries. The water gets pleasantly deep quite quickly, so you don't have to wade out forever; instead, you can dive right in and enjoy a perfect swim. The view is an absolute dream—the dazzling blue water reminds me so much of the Maldives! During the day, you can soak up the wonderful weather, while in the evening, a truly beautiful atmosphere takes over. There is a great nightlife scene featuring parties and plenty of young people who create a fantastic vibe. An all-around perfect destination! #ChillCafé #Palmanova #PalmanovaBeach #Mallorca #Mallorca2026 #PlatjaDeSonMaties #Calvia #MaledivenFeeling #StrandUrlaub #MallorcaParty #Meerblick #ReiseTipps

Love this beach! Whenever we visit the island we stay in the area. Despite the resort being full of brits, the beach isn't. And during the weekend the locals come here as well. (Because it's so nice) Water is clear, waves are little, sand is soft.

It was a small beautiful beach. It was not over crowded, may be due to October. Two sunbeds with umbrella was costing 22 Euro. It also had locker facility. The beach was very clean and well maintained. The sea water was also very clean and shallow. One of the nearby restaurant Azur was serving drinks and food on the beach. There was boat and yachts facility at one corner of the beach. The beach promenade was ideal place for leisure walk. Across the road a lot of cafes restaurants and bars were there. Overall ambiance was rocking.

Long, sandy beach with beautiful views and basically in the city. You can rent sunbeds and visit restaurants, especially Il Chiringo is amazing.

Visited Cala Pi during our Mallorca trip and can see why it’s become so popular. The beach itself is small but beautiful, tucked between high cliffs with calm clear water and soft sand. The walk down the steps is definitely worth it for the view alone. It does get very busy, especially later in the day, so arriving early is a good idea if you want a decent spot. Despite the crowds, it still has a relaxed atmosphere compared to some of the more tourist-heavy beaches on the island. Great place for swimming, relaxing, and taking photos. Definitely worth visiting if you’re in Mallorca, just plan ahead and expect company!
Wiktoria★★★☆☆
Visited in April 2026 The beach looks great. It had a lot of grass and unwanted stuff on top of the sand and you couldn’t comfortably lay on that so finding a nice spot after around 11 was impossible. The cliffs look stunning. The water is clear. The sand is nice but the beach is far too small. There’s not too many steps to get there though.
Neslihan ÇELİK★★★★★
You have to park your car upstairs and take the stairs to go down but it is easy one. The sea is beautiful. Upstairs you can find markets and some restaurants to eat basic things. If you nearby it worth visiting

A small beach, with cold water and a strong wind. You just trying to relax on your towel and all the sand is all over you😑😬 The landscape of the water is wonderful.❤️
Jonalyn Regodo★★★★★
The beach is perfect—you only need to walk a short distance to get down to it. Restaurants and markets are nearby, making everything very convenient. There is plenty of parking available if you arrive early.

Really great beach very close to the old town of Palma. I visited in April and it was never to busy and had a great vibe. Beautiful beach and also had great views of the cathedral.

A nice place for an evening walk by the beach. We visited at night, and it was calm and pleasant🌅 Some reviews mentioned it was dirty, but it felt clean to us (maybe because it was the off-season) It seems like it would be even nicer to visit again in the summer 🏝️
Noemi★★★☆☆
I suppose this is a nice beach when you’re in Palma but in the summer months it’s too hot to sit here and you need to bring your own umbrella as there’s no sunbeds. Maybe this is a good thing but it’s impossible to sit here in the summer when the sand is 50-60C.
SERHII HERASYMENKO★★☆☆☆
The beach left me with mixed feelings. It’s spacious, with a beautiful view, especially at night — the atmosphere can be stunning. However, the biggest downside is cleanliness: there’s a lot of trash, bottles, broken glass, and even dangerous items (I even came across a restaurant knife). Walking barefoot here is strongly not recommended, as it’s easy to get hurt. The place has potential, but without proper maintenance, it leaves a disappointing impression.
Vin Chenzo★★★★★
The beach was clean, tidy and well maintained. It was relaxing and large enough. Was not too busy. Great place to walk down.

Pierre Bounin★★★★★
It's a really pretty beach. It does get very crowded though. For the best view, I'd absolutely recommend hiking up the steep staircase on the right hand side of the beach (behind the small hut). You'll get the best view of the entire bay with beautiful turquoise water and it'll be a lot less crowded there. Parking spaces are always available on the main road if you're willing to walk ~500m to the beach.
Miss Fortune★★★★★
One of the most beautiful places I have ever swam. Like a stream in the gorge. Easily accessible. If you wish to explore the area I suggest hiking towards west - it's a 10 minute walk - and you'll find a hidden cove that is way more private and rocky. Superb views. Definitely worth the walk. Make sure you have hiking shoes.
Yeva Stepanova★★★★☆
This beach is a go-to cool option if you are staying in Palma but want to see something more exotic: cliffs, crystal clear water, nature. The views are amazing but be aware that the beach itself isn’t equipped with umbrellas or sun beds which isn’t very comfortable for some people. Otherwise, you can take a walk around the cliffs and enjoy wonderful panoramic views.
Daniel Nicolae Maita★★★★☆
Playa de Cala Pi has a picturesque setting with steep cliffs and a narrow stretch of beach, but it wasn’t the best experience. The water was green and a bit murky not as clear as other beaches on the island. While the surroundings are beautiful, there are definitely better options in Mallorca if you’re looking for crystal-clear water and a great swim.
Daniel Worster★★★★★
Wonderful morning snorkeling. Arrived around 8:30, not many people yet, but by 9:30 it was filling up. Excellent time snorkeling!

Gorgeous beach chilled laid back on small strip of shops and cafes..nice clear water and clean sand. 10 15 min walk around whole bay. Reccomned.

A lovely beach close to all the town amenities with lovely white sand and beautiful sea views. There’s plenty of shade available and when you are ready to explore you have lots to look at locally. Alternatively, hop on a bus back along the coast to Magaluf or Palma Nova. Very popular resort with all ages.
Laura Gabi Cristea★★★★☆
Very calm water, almost like a lake, not for me, but some other people might appreciate it. Sunbeds and many shops and restaurants in the area. Some nice restaurants with teraces overlooking the bay on the left side.

It's a great beach, level with fine sand and gentle waves. We are here at the.end of May. The local council has installed board walks, sun loungers and parasols. In the middle behind the life guards tower is a shaded area for wheelchairs etc. They have free use of crutches, a beach Wheelchair and sling hoist to make the beach and sea more accessible. The beach Wheelchair can go in the sea and floats. An excellent addition to the facilities. Toilets, showers and first aid are also available.

you are looking for the perfect mix of daytime relaxation and nonstop nighttime fun, Magaluf is the place to be. The beach itself is absolutely beautiful, with soft golden sand, clear blue water, and plenty of space to sunbathe or enjoy water sports during the day.Once the sun goes down, the resort completely transforms. The nightlife here is legendary, packed with endless bars, huge clubs, and a great party energy that keeps you going until dawn. It can get a bit wild and loud, but that is exactly what makes it so vibrant and exciting. Perfect for a holiday with friends where you want to enjoy both the sun and the best parties!

I took my son for Easter break (luckily this week didn't clash with many other schools, quieter) we've visited two days on the trot - 1st day we went before 9.30am and it was lovely and quiet. 2nd day we went abit later 10.30 and it was comfortable and chill not over crowd. The sea is beautiful and the place is pretty clean too. Would recommend a visit. If your after quieter, then go early.

During our stay at Palmanova, one afternoon we came here to enjoy the famous beautiful Magaluf beach. It was Sunday and we expected it to be crowded. Unfortunately that day the weather was not good. It was very very windy. There was nobody on the beach. All facilities including sunbeds were closed. Luckily the beach facing restaurants were open with front side fully covered due to windy condition. We settled in one of them for our lunch after a brief walk on the promenade. May be next time.

Great beach to watch the sunset, but the water is sadly full of trash 😢! Also the temperature of the water is currently mega warm, not refreshing at all. Just a feeling of being wet.

Great beach, perfect for kids. Nearby you can buy umbrellas, air mattresses, swim rings, and more. Plenty of cafes/restaurants for every taste, plus bike and equipment rentals. Popular tourist spot. Parking is difficult, but taxis and a bus stop are just a 2-minute walk away

One of the most beautiful islands and the most beautiful beaches I have visited. And it will always remain an available option for future vacations. A charming and beautiful beach, crystal clear waters, and wonderful Mediterranean weather, ideal for lovers of sandy beaches, and very suitable for families However, there are no toilets or showers to take a shower after swimming "except in specific places".. You have to take this into account and look carefully if that causes a problem for you. I recommend going in late August or in June, as the weather is mild and not too hot
Team Shadowclaw★★★☆☆
5️⃣ / 🔟 Actually a very very very beautiful beach. Unfortunately it's very overcrowded so you can hardly find a place. Lots of salespeople trying to sell you some overpriced crap. It's a shame, these two things make this beautiful beach rather stressful. But as I said, the beach is visually very beautiful. Feel free to decide for yourself whether you want to see it. We might come back, but we're not sure yet. See you then. ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻

Beautiful seashell shaped beach, fine sand, crystal clear water with tiny fish. Pretty warm water în June already. Only downside is the amount of plastics brought by the sea to the shore - a shame this is the best humanity can do to this pretty place.
Гліб Дядичкін★☆☆☆☆
The service was unfriendly and very slow. The waiter came to our table maybe once in 30 minutes, and when he changed the cutlery he just dropped the forks and knives on the dirty table. The glasses were not clean. There was no salt, no pepper, nothing basic on the table, which I expect in any normal restaurant. The food is average at best and very greasy. Nothing that you cannot get in a much simpler and much cheaper place. For these prices the quality of food, the service and the condition of the place do not match at all. The toilet had no soap and no paper towels when we were there. For a restaurant at this price level this is really bad. The location and the view are nice, and that is the only reason people come here. But you pay a lot of money only for the photo. I would not recommend it and I would not come back.
Marc★★★★★
The beach was very nice, clean, and not too crowded. The sand was clean with no seaweed, and it’s definitely a spot I would recommend. It’s also easily reachable by bus, with toilets and a restaurant nearby, which makes it convenient.
Juliana Ramos★★★★★
It's a very clean and very quiet beach

Nice little bay and beach good if you are afraid of the open sea or want to have your small children under control.

Essential Tips for Enjoying the Beaches Near Palma

Navigating the local beach scene is easy if you know a few insider tricks that can save you time, money, and stress. The popularity of these coastlines means that a little preparation goes a long way in ensuring you get the best spot on the sand and avoid common tourist pitfalls. Here are some practical recommendations to help you experience the coast like a local.

Arrive early or go late to secure a good spot. During the peak summer months of July and August, the most popular sandy stretches fill up quickly with both tourists and locals. If you want to avoid the midday rush and secure a prime location near the water, plan to arrive before 10:00 AM. Alternatively, arriving after 4:00 PM offers cooler temperatures, softer light for photos, and a more relaxed atmosphere as the day-trippers begin to leave.

Understand the sunbed and umbrella system. While bringing your own towel is always free, renting a sun lounger (hamaca) and a parasol can cost between 15 and 30 euros per day depending on the beach. If you plan to visit multiple beaches during your stay, consider purchasing a cheap parasol from a local supermarket or "bazaar." This is a much more cost-effective option for families or long-stay visitors.

Use public transport to avoid parking stress. Parking near the most popular beaches, such as Playa de Palma or Illetes, can be a nightmare during the summer, with traffic jams and expensive parking meters. The EMT bus system in Palma is reliable, air-conditioned, and incredibly affordable. Routes like the L1 to Portopí or the 15 to Playa de Palma drop you off just steps from the sand.

Respect the "posidonia" seagrass. You may notice dried seagrass (Posidonia oceanica) washed up on the shore. While it can sometimes look messy, this native plant is actually a sign of extremely clean, healthy water and is vital for the Mediterranean ecosystem. Do not be deterred by it; instead, appreciate that it indicates you are swimming in some of the cleanest water in Europe.

Bring water shoes for the rocky coves. While the eastern beaches feature soft sand, the coves to the west, such as Cala Major or Illetes, often have rocky seabeds and pebbles. A pair of inexpensive water shoes will protect your feet from sharp rocks and sea urchins, allowing you to explore the crystal-clear water comfortably and safely.

Plan meals outside of standard Spanish hours. If you want to eat at a beachfront restaurant, be aware that lunch is typically served from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. Restaurants get extremely busy at 2:00 PM, so aim to eat a little earlier or later to avoid waiting for a table. Alternatively, pack a picnic of local bread, cheese, and jamón to enjoy a scenic meal right on your towel.

The beauty of basing yourself in Palma is that you can experience a different type of coastline every single day of your vacation without ever needing to travel far. From the lively, amenity-packed strips to the quiet, pine-fringed coves, the variety is truly remarkable. By choosing your beach based on the day’s mood and the weather conditions, you can curate the perfect Mediterranean itinerary.

Ultimately, a trip to Mallorca is incomplete without spending time floating in its famous turquoise waters. Whether you seek adventure, relaxation, or a bit of both, the beaches surrounding the capital offer a window into the island’s natural splendor and laid-back lifestyle. Pack your sunscreen, grab a towel, and discover why this coastline has been enchanting travelers for generations.
