12 Best Family-Friendly Restaurants in Toulouse

Dining out with children in a French city known for its gastronomic excellence can feel intimidating. Parents often worry about navigating narrow bistros, managing quiet atmospheres, or finding a menu a picky eater will accept. Fortunately, the "Ville Rose" is more welcoming than you might expect. Toulouse blends its rich culinary heritage with a laid-back, Southern warmth that extends easily to younger diners.

Finding a spot that balances great food for adults with genuine comfort for kids requires local knowledge. You want more than just a high chair in the corner; you want a space where the staff smiles at spilled juice and the kitchen is happy to serve a simple plate of pasta. It is about finding places where the ambiance is lively enough to mask the occasional toddler outburst but refined enough for parents to enjoy a glass of local Fronton wine.

This guide focuses on restaurants that actively welcome families, rather than merely tolerating them. We have considered practical elements such as space for strollers, availability of booster seats, and menu flexibility. We have also looked at locations near major attractions like the Jardin des Plantes or the Garonne riverbanks, making it easier to combine a meal with a day of sightseeing.

From traditional Southwestern French cooking to international flavors that appeal to global palates, the variety in Toulouse is impressive. You can introduce your children to the joys of cassoulet or stick to trusted favorites like wood-fired pizza and burgers. The common thread among the selections below is consistency—these establishments have built reputations for reliability and hospitality.

Whether you are a local looking for a new weekend haunt or a visitor exploring the pink brick streets of Occitanie, this list will help you plan stress-free meals. We have prioritized venues that understand the rhythm of family dining, ensuring that the focus remains on making memories rather than managing meltdowns.

Wonderful restaurant, first the service is really nice. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, we had excellent advice on the wine selection and the eventually propsed wine was an excellent match to the meals we ordered. Second the starters and mains were just excellent, portions are quite royal and you will not leave this place hungry. There were wonderful options to choose from and I understood the menu rotates relatively frequently. Then finally the deserts... oh my... just wonderful. I have added some picture to illustrate but you have to taste it to experience it. I doubt you will disappointed, we definitely were not and will return when possible. Highly recommended!

We had a delicious 3 course dinner at the end of a long day of touring. I booked the day before and was excited about the food we might be offered as it depended on what was available that day… The staff were excellent too as they were able to explain the menu in English.

Wonderful restaurant. We booked a table for 2 for lunch. Everything was spot on. We were glad that we booked our table in advance. The place is fully booked. And that is very understandable. We will definitely be back.

We came for lunch, and got the full entree plat dessert course. Food was delicious, service was friendly and efficient. Nothing to complain about as quality was very good considering the price for the lunch menu. Portions were also reasonable and we ate well. Reservations are definitely recommended.

We went to this gorgeous little restaurant in the evening! We are very impressed , firstly the quality of food and the taste is simply outstanding. The main course was brought hot which in my opinion is essential. The veal meat was cooked to perfection. The starter terrine de canard was also delicious . We had ice cold champagne and we loved the cheese at the end and the millefeuille. The service was warm and attentive. This restaurant is impeccable with report quality and price. We want to come here for sure !

This was a wonderful, authentic dining experience with fabulous food. Our server was delightful and very helpful with wine recommendations.

I highly recommend. Fresh food, local herbs, cooperative with local farmers, honey producers. The chef is preparing food so you can watch it. The taste is unbelievable! And the place is lovely, you can feel Toulouse's style in surrounding buildings. The place is quiet. Small, private. The prices are good.

Not many gluten free options but the vegan celery risotto and japanese salad( ginger carrot) tasted great! Vibe like a fusion Japanese izakaya~

Petit voyage is a small restaurant in Toulouse with a capacity of around 12 tables so better to make a reservation, I did not so I had to rush my dinner between bookings. The risotto was tasty but the portion was small for me. And the carrot 🥕 cake was rich and not too sweet. The stuff was friendly. Recommend it!
Elise Hiddink★★★★★
Loved eating in this little spot! I was looking for a place to eat around 13.00u, and this had amazing reviews and was close by. And reviews were right! The lady serving people was amazing. Her english was great, and if I felt that if I needed help, she would give it. Menu was divers and loved the specials of the day. I chose a special of the day, which was a risotto. It tasted amazing! I would really recommend this place! No spacious seating, but enough for a good!

We really enjoyed the food and atmosphere here. We had the mussels, leeks, sautéed squid, skirt steak and croque monsieur. Every dish was very tasty. It was way too much food for two people but we brought our dog (she’s a big eater!). Our waiter was terrific and he spoke excellent English. This is a great spot to have lunch, dinner or just drinks. Prices were super reasonable too. Overall, we felt this was an excellent value.
Kevin M★★★★★
Very cool spot! We tried a few different dishes and they were all great. The stand outs for me were the bone marrow (so flavorful, melt in your mouth), and the gnocchi (the gravy like sauce with it was so good) The decor is very interesting too, very French artsy. And you’ve gotta check out the bathrooms! The staff were also great, very friendly! I’d recommend this place for sure!

An excellent evening meal. Really outstanding Tataki Thon and Ceviche, plus my wife enjoyed the moules. Ate at a pavement table and, even tough there was a staff shift change, the service was seamless.
Petronella Wa★★★★☆
We had a reservation online, rhis worked well. It was a saturday lunch and it was very full. We had to wait for the food quite long, but when it came,it was all ok. The tataki thon was very very good and also the little pulpos with wild rice. The frittes are not crispy at all, but they taste very well 👌 Filet mignone du pork tasted well, but I prefer it rose, this time it was slightly over and a little dry. But the zucchini was superb
Sebastian Czyżo★★★★★
The service was genuinely warm and friendly, making the whole experience very enjoyable. Both the food and the beer were good, and everything was served with a smile. A nice place to relax and enjoy a meal – I’d happily visit again.

Food is alright but service is bad due to lack of staff and unexperienced dudes trying their best. You can tell the restaurant is managed by a young cheap labour left behind trying to do whatever they can to please customers… The owner should hire more staff, so the waiters don’t get so grumpy and frustrated while working… It’s unhealthy for them but also for us customers, we leave disappointed because they are bitter. We just want to have a good time, and not to argue with you guys because you can’t manage the service… On a plus envie d’y retourner.

We had such a great time having dinner at Prima Circus. The staff was fun to be with and the food was really good! I would suggest getting the salad w/ Burrata! It was so refreshing specially with the Heat! Thank you very much for having us.

We had a really lovely evening at Volfoni in Toulouse and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The atmosphere was warm and relaxed, with a nice balance between cozy and stylish—perfect for both a family dinner and a more grown‑up night out. The staff were friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and they were happy to accommodate our questions and small requests. The food was clearly well‑prepared and tasted great; everything we ordered came fresh and with thoughtful presentation. We appreciated that they offered some kid‑friendly options on the menu, which made the evening much easier and more enjoyable with our children. Portions were generous, and the flavors felt authentic rather than overly fussy. Overall, Volfoni delivered a very pleasant dining experience: good food, a welcoming ambiance, and service that felt genuinely hospitable. We would definitely recommend it to others visiting Toulouse and would be happy to return ourselves.

Wonderful food in one of the most interesting open spaces in the city. I had chicken with mashed potato, mushrooms, roast cherry tomatoes and a sauce; the dish was beautifully cooked and very tasty. My dining companion had the lasagne and declared it to be excellent.

We love it - in centar of city, no reservation, simply food , OK price open almost non-stop

One of the best experiences we had during our 2-day trip to Toulouse. From the very beginning, the atmosphere of the restaurant makes you feel comfortable, but what truly stands out is the quality of the food and the service. The pizza was excellent, with a perfectly crafted dough and high-quality ingredients that you can taste in every bite. The dessert was the perfect finishing touch—well presented, balanced, and absolutely delicious. A special mention to Sheila, who provided outstanding service. She was very kind, attentive at all times, and her friendly attitude made the experience even better. Overall, a completely recommendable place. Without a doubt, one of the highlights of our stay in Toulouse. Recomendable 100%
Raphael Nohra★★★★★
A very delightful place. Warm ambiance and great food and the service is top notch there. We were welcomed and served by the kindest waitress I have ever encountered Isabelle whom I really thank for her energy that made our day seem brighter and happier. The food there is of a great quality and many options exist. The pizzas are really good and have the real Italian taste. The pasta as well is great and their Antipasti are also very tasty and of high quality. The drinks (cocktails) that they offer are of a barman’s creativity but with elegance and taste (happy hour for cocktails exists). I recommend this place and would surely go again multiple times.

I came here for the first time, and I came intentionally to grab a beer chill out, and that's all!!! But then I've dived into the menu as it was looking interesting and immediately I ordered Steak Burger... nothing fancy. The staff is very friendly and they do speak English which is not very likely here in TLS. Anyhow, after exactly 8 minutes, my burger was on the table and by the look of it was WOW eye-catching 👌 Obviously as they say, the taste is in the proof and I can confidentially say this is the most tastiest juicy burger I've ever ate in my life and I'm not joking. The bun is soft, airy, and crunchy at the same time whilst the patty itself was cooked to my taste medium, juicy Lucy, and really tasty. Last but not least, the prices are very decent and reasonable. I can say it's a masterclass in the art of burgermaking. I will highly recommend this restaurant, which, by the way it is part of the very skillful sports of the inside rock-climbing arena.... Thumbs up guys, well done, and keep it up 👍💪🤛
Nicholas Morgan★★★★★
I stumbled upon this restaurant while looking for somewhere to eat near my driving school. Great restaurant, the service is friendly, and the food is also very reasonably priced. Plus, it's located in a climbing gym. I have no personal interest in climbing, but it's fun to have people climbing in front of (or behind) (or next to) you while you eat.
Ga Ts★★☆☆☆
The CBO is delicious, but that's the only positive point. There's a menu with lots of choices, but you can't choose what you want because some things, like smoothies, take too long to prepare 🤣😅 Why are they even on the menu? The waiter and his friendliness seem to be lacking. In short, it's not a place I would recommend.
Nadège (Nanoulapin)★★★★★
A restaurant located in a climbing gym – how original! The prices are really low and the portions are generous. Plus, the waitress is super friendly!
Maxime★★★★★
Restaurant with a view of the climbing wall and excellent value for money! Very generous portions, beautifully presented dishes. The croque monsieur sandwiches are doubled, which is unusual. The desserts are also very good.

Grabbed a takeaway here en route to a rugby match. I know it is not a fast food food joint but it took a long time! I think they actually forgot our order. Burger was OK, nothing amazing but nothing bad. Maybe it is better when you eat in.

Very good on the eyes, but not the same at all on the flavor!! Burgers okisshh, bread not so fresh and fries like rubber.

Wow, so much food for a really good price. Had the menu express, burger, fries, drink (I went for a glass of wine), tea and a brownie €12. Such a fun restaurant with the decorations, the boothes and the Disney films playing. All the staff were super lovely too

Off the beaten track but worth hunting this down, let's be honest most authentic places are gling to be hidden away from the main "eating and drinking squares" The menu may not be for everyone but we were here for one thing only, the traditional and famous Duck Confit Cassoulete - and it certainly delivered!! Full of deep flavour, crispy skin with neat that fell off the bone, beans that were drowning in duck fat and as alwaysbin France a chunky stack of fresh bread to soak it all up with. The wine list, if you are adventurous enough and really like your wine, is a cracking read!! Our server, young girl, was amazing - our French is nothing, she was patient and very attentive. First class service for sure. Bookings are recommended, we did as it was a Friday night and there was a steady stream of locals walking in aswell!!
Nena★☆☆☆☆
If you are a tourist, non french speaking and would like to be treated very poorly this is the place for you. We came in minutes after they opened for dinner service and was seated immediately. Once the "waitress" realized we were non french speaking her attitude changed immediately. After taking our order she rudely grabbed my menu and almost swiped my eye with it but I was able to shift my head. We got our starter of escargot and she rudely asked "did you have a reservation?" we said no and she abruptly left the table. I witnessed this young "waitress" smile and give excellent service to those around me they also received tap water bottle refills with no problem. Some man from the kitchen was going around and asking people how their was but not our table. The fact they were able to smile and give excellent customer service to everyone around us BUT US was another level of rude. The food was excellent but the "service" was 💯% TERRIBLE. Spending decent money to be treated so poorly, if we weren't on our last leg of the trip we would have left. We were tired and really wanted to try the cassoulet, they also warmed the spoons within the cassoulet because the stem was piercing hot. Luckily I was already expecting something like that it didn't burn my fingers too long. I wonder if this young "waitress" would appreciate being treated this way if she went out to a restaurant of this nature herself. I think not.
Betsy Waters★★★★☆
The tourist office recommended this restaurant. The food was good as expected. I’m not giving a 5 for a few reasons. One I had to ask for bread when every other table had bread. Second the cassoulet was not steaming hot all through, it was warm. It was good but not outstanding. Sadly on a Monday I did not have that many choices for cassoulet.
lauren sevrin★★★★★
Seated in the front room I enjoyed the best cassoulet ever. Crispy duck, flavorful sausage and white beans as they should be in consistency and taste. A large portion so it was my only order, but will definitely return to try other menu items. The house dry white, a fair price, went well with cassoulet. The back room looked more charming. Quite a few people turned-up on an early Monday evening.
christian rademaker★★★★★
Wonderful restaurant in the centre in an alley. We ordered the Auch menu which included cassoulet and dorade. Big portions and great quality. Although we are non French speaking we still received the service and attention like any other. And if the menu is French then Google lens is a good tool to translate.

The restaurant’s interior—especially the second dining area, not the one by the entrance—is absolutely beautiful. It has a warm, cosy atmosphere and feels much calmer than the lively front section. The Margherita pizza was incredibly delicious, with fresh flavours and a perfectly baked crust. The waiter was also very friendly, welcoming, and always had a smile on his face, which made the experience even better. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience, and I’d definitely recommend it.
Khang Đoàn★★★★★
Just finished my meal here and had a really good experience. The food was delicious overall. The Carpaccio de boeuf was a solid 9/10, and the Milanaise d’aubergine was around 8.5/10 for me. It was a little bit rich after a few bites, but still very enjoyable. The prices felt fair for the quality of the food, and everything was well seasoned and easy to enjoy. What stood out the most was the service (10/10). The food came out quickly, and all of the staff were friendly, welcoming, and polite. A special shoutout to one of the female staff members (slim, with dark hair and a slight shine/highlight). She was super sweet, cheerful, and incredibly attentive throughout the meal. Honestly, 11/10 for her! If I’m back in the area, I’d definitely come again to try more dishes. Happy to recommend this place to others.

Prima Bonheur in Toulouse is a delightful little spot that combines great food, excellent drinks, and a wonderfully cozy atmosphere. The pizza we tried was perfectly baked with fresh, flavorful toppings, and the spaghetti was cooked al dente and generously seasoned, making both dishes stand out as clear highlights of the evening. The cocktails are definitely worth mentioning: the classic Mojito was refreshing and well‑balanced, while the “Winter is coming” cocktail offered a creative, seasonal twist that was both warming and aromatic. The warm lighting and intimate setting create a relaxed, inviting vibe—ideal for a long conversation or a relaxed dinner with friends or a partner. Service was friendly and welcoming without being intrusive, and the prices felt very fair for the quality of the food and drinks. Overall, Prima Bonheur is a charming neighborhood restaurant that delivers on both taste and ambiance, and it’s a place we’d happily return to.
Kim L.★★★★★
Friendly staff, great food, lovely atmosphere enjoyed very much! Had carbonara pizza and truffle pasta, which was recommended by the staff. I super loved it!!!! Merci
Carlos Montenegro★★★★★
We had two pizzas, one with spicy salami and one with guanciale. The spicy salami one was superb, the guanciale was OK. It needed a bit more of guanciale to boost the flavor. We had the season cocktail, wich was one with cinnamon (really tasty) and Audi Moi oui, this last one was the best we tried. In total had 4 cocktails. The staff was super nice, they spoke English and endured my poor french. If you decide to stop here, won't be disappointed.

What a stunningly lovely café. The food is delicious and somewhat unexpected - a perfectly-executed French omelette topped with homemade XO sauce, Greek yogurt whipped into a mousse and topped with pepito granola and flooded with strawberries in syrup, and an iced coffee with orgeat. I chanced upon this restaurant by luck, but this is the kind of place I would recommend visitors to seek out. I don’t know how busy their weekends are, but the atmosphere felt intimate and very friendly on a Friday morning.

Cozy ambiance and excellent service. I was excited for the pancakes but they looked a bit dry so I ordered an omelette instead, with Parmesan and pepper. It was delicious!! I wouldn’t go out of my way to have it again, but if you are in the area I highly recommend

A very charming place with great food. We parked nearby and were looking for a late brunch place - saw the reviews and decided to give it chance: and it completely met our expectations! Friendly waitress who spoke English (as tourists we always appreciate it), beautiful cutlery, but, most importantly, the food: I tried the omelette with truffle sause that was juicy and the eggs had fluffy texture, and my friend had a sandwich with fresh meat, as dessert we chose a blueberry muffin in the vanilla sauce. We will be glad to come back!

Highly recommended to visit. I can’t speak French stuff so friendly and helpful. The food so creative and unique. We’re pleased with the menu choices.

Following a recommendation from a friend we visited Oh la vache! for dinner. We arrived at 19:00h because we’d heard how popular this venue was, and we were not disappointed. We were greeted warmly and the food was out of this world, beautifully prepared with super-fresh ingredients, served lovingly with care and attention. The house 🍷 was delicious and made the perfect accompaniment to our meal. Would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant 🙏

We saw some empty tables and sat down without any expectations.. only after couple of minutes we realised that we actually got lucky. So many people passed later, but the restaurant was full. The staff was very welcoming and friendly, sufficient variety of dishes, affordable price and everything sooooooooo tasty! My tummy says many thanks! Next time when we visit Toulouse, I will definitely book a table.

The first dish that I had experienced in Toulouse. I’ve seen so many blogs posting of recommendations for this restaurant, especially a dish of duck breast steak. So tender and juicy, I highly recommend trying to eat this like any other bloggers:)

he ultimate destination for authentic Southwest French comfort food in the heart of the city. Stopped by in April 2026 for a dinner focused on regional specialties. The atmosphere is bustling yet intimate, perfectly capturing the spirit of a traditional French bistro. The Duck Breast (Magret de Canard) was cooked to a perfect medium-rare, paired with their signature Toulouse-style potatoes which are crisp, golden, and rich with garlic and herbs. The aroma of searing duck fat as you enter sets the stage for a high-quality meal. Suggestions for Improvement: The dining area can get quite loud during peak hours; acoustic dampening would improve conversation flow. It would be even better if the wine list included a few more affordable glass options from the Fronton region. Insider Tips: Seating: Request a table near the back if you prefer a slightly quieter experience away from the entrance draft. Logistics: Reservations are mandatory for weekends as they often turn away walk-ins by 7:00 PM. Verdict: A must-visit for serious fans of French poultry.

Lovely food and kind waitress. Ordered the salad and the duck breast, both very good. 10/10 would come back! Outside it was a bit chilly, what what can one do 🙂

Tips for a Stress-Free Family Meal in Toulouse

While choosing the right restaurant is half the battle, understanding the local dining culture can make your experience even smoother. French dining times can be rigid, and kitchens often close between lunch and dinner service. By planning your schedule around local customs and coming prepared, you can ensure that everyone stays happy from the first bite of bread to the final spoonful of dessert.

Book ahead and request the right seating. The French dine later than many international visitors, but families are often the exception. Book a table for 12:00 PM for lunch or 7:00 PM for dinner to beat the rush and secure a spot with space for a stroller. When reserving, explicitly ask for a "table avec chaise haute" (table with a high chair) or a booth if you have a toddler who likes to move.

Leverage the "Menu Enfant." Many of the restaurants on this list offer a fixed-price children’s menu (menu enfant), which usually includes a main course, a drink, and a dessert. However, don’t be afraid to ask for a half portion ("demi-portion") of an adult dish if your child is a more adventurous eater. Kitchens in family-friendly venues are usually happy to accommodate a simple plate of plain rice or grilled chicken even if it isn’t printed on the menu.

Embrace the early evening "Apéro" hour. If you are dealing with jet lag or very young children who cannot wait until 7:30 PM to eat, look for brasseries and cafes that offer continuous service. Many casual spots in Toulouse serve food from 6:00 PM onwards. You can also grab a light snack at a boulangerie to tide them over, allowing you to enjoy a later dinner without a hunger-induced crisis.

Pack small entertainment, not big toys. While many Toulouse restaurants are lively, space is still at a premium. Bring a small coloring book, stickers, or a quiet fidget toy rather than bulky tablets or loud games. A deck of French playing cards (like "Jeu de 7 familles") can be a fun cultural souvenir and a great way to pass the time waiting for the main course.

Look for terraces and proximity to parks. Toulouse has a beautiful climate for much of the year. Choosing a restaurant with a terrace allows children a bit more freedom to stand up or move without disturbing other diners. Similarly, picking a spot near the Jardin Raymond VI or the Prairie des Filtres allows for a pre-dinner or post-dinner run around to burn off energy.

Dining out with your family in Toulouse is an opportunity to slow down and enjoy the French art de vivre together. The city’s culinary scene is diverse enough to satisfy sophisticated palates while remaining grounded enough to welcome the joyful chaos that children bring. With a little planning, your meals can become the highlight of your trip rather than a logistical hurdle.

As you explore the city, let the atmosphere of the restaurants be part of the experience. The sound of clinking glasses, the smell of fresh bread, and the sight of multi-generational families laughing together is the true essence of Toulouse. Bon appétit!
