12 Best Italian Restaurants in Colmar

Nestled along the Alsace Wine Route, Colmar is a city that looks like it has been lifted directly from the pages of a fairy tale. With its half-timbered houses, winding cobblestone lanes, and vibrant floral displays, it is a feast for the eyes. Yet, beyond the visual splendor of "Little Venice" and the Gothic architecture, Colmar offers a culinary landscape that is equally enchanting, particularly for those who appreciate rustic, hearty, and authentic French cuisine.

While Alsatian specialties like choucroute garnie and tarte flambée often steal the spotlight, the Italian dining scene in Colmar is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. The city’s proximity to the borders of Germany and Switzerland has fostered a unique culinary melting pot, but the influence of Italy remains a dominant and beloved force. From wood-fired pizzas with perfectly blistered crusts to hand-rolled pasta draped in rich ragù, the options are surprisingly diverse for a city of its size.

Choosing where to eat can be overwhelming when you are wandering through the bustling streets of the Old Town or the quieter neighborhoods near the Champ de Mars. You might be looking for a romantic date night spot with candlelit ambiance, or perhaps a family-friendly trattoria where the kids can watch the pizzaiolo spin dough. Regardless of your specific craving, the key is knowing which establishments prioritize fresh ingredients and traditional techniques over tourist-trap convenience.

This guide is designed to cut through the noise and lead you directly to the best plates of pasta, pizza, and antipasti in the capital of Alsace wine. We have evaluated these restaurants based not only on the quality of their food but also on atmosphere, service, and value for money. Whether you are a local looking for a new favorite haunt or a traveler needing a break from heavy Alsatian fare, there is a perfect Italian table waiting for you here.

From bustling pizzerias that stay open late to elegant ristorantes that require a reservation, the variety is impressive. You will find chefs who honor the strict traditions of Naples and Sicily, as well as those who incorporate a touch of French flair into their dishes. The common thread among the top contenders is a commitment to quality—importing Italian flour, using San Marzano tomatoes, and sourcing local Alsatian produce to top their creations.

Without further ado, let us explore the finest Italian dining experiences that Colmar has to offer.

This was such a great find and felt very local. Despite the host stand saying they were completely full for the night, the owners welcomed us in with a warm smile. Delicious food, & friendly hospitality

The wonderful owner squeezed us in on a Friday night and spoke English with us. The risotto and lasagne were out of this world!
Mishea Hyatt★★★★★
On a beautiful Spring Friday, the staff seated the six of us without reservations. All of us from ages 6-71 very much enjoyed our lunch. The shrimp risotto, linguini vongole, pasta bolognese & poulet pesto penne disappeared! The tiramisu was lovely.

Very good Italian restaurant in France. Very nice staff and good wines. The risotto was delicious!

What an amazingly friendly manager who went out of his way to help. We arrived after 19:00 just to find out that they are fully booked. We ordered take away and within half an hour it was done. Thank you for the delicious food and being super helpful, we appreciate it.

What a delightful place! We were lucky to walk in without a reservation and they were able to seat us. They were such gracious hosts serving, much needed, amazing food.

Wonderful focaccia and just as good service. If you're in Colmar, eating there is a must! We were passing through Colmar just for a day and the waiter was so friendly and helpful, even giving us some informations about the cities around. If we can call it a down side, you'll never get enough of that focaccia, just wonderful and so full of flavor!
T. W.★☆☆☆☆
My wife and I ate dinner here last night and found the food very disappointing. I ordered the Meatballs with Focaccia and my wife ordered the Pasta Carbonara. The sauce was warm but the Meatballs were cold(kinda strange) the noodles in the Pasta Carbonara was definitely undercooked and the sauce tasted like pasta water and no sauce as if it was rushed and they forgot the sauce(not good). The servers were nice but the atmosphere was lacking. All in all the worst Italian food we have yet to experience and we have eaten Italian food all around the world. 🙁

Superb focaccia and wine. The staff are always smiling, and the place has an old-money charm. It's also ideal for a slow food experience. If I had only one evening in Colmar, this is where I’d come.

Amazing and authentically delicious! Welcoming staff and quick service. Great variety of delicacies and wines. Hands down the best Tiramisu in town 🤩

I ordered the Spaghetti Bolognese, and it was completely tasteless. The sauce was very watery, and there was even water mixed with the tomato sauce around the edge of the plate. There was hardly any meat in it, it tasted more like plain spaghetti with tomato sauce and water than a proper Bolognese. The dish wasn’t seasoned at all. The service was disappointing as well. The waitress never checked on our table while we were eating. She only came to ask if everything was okay after my friend had already finished his meal, while I still had a full plate in front of me. I told her that I didn’t like the food and that there was barely any meat or taste in the Bolognese. I didn’t feel like ordering anything else because it would have meant waiting all over again. Instead, I left and went to eat at another restaurant. Overall, a disappointing experience, and I can’t recommend this restaurant.
Satish Patel★☆☆☆☆
BURNT PIZZA ALERT!!! I should have know an Italian restaurant in France would not be good but I at least imagine they can cook a pizza. Pizza tasted like a cooked frozen pizza and was burnt. Looks like they serve better pizza to locals, as they all had pizza that was bubbly and light. Look at pics and you can see its burnt and flat. €14 for a pizza, you can find much better quality and price elsewhere.
Djurga★★★★★
Great service! Fantastic bread with the pizza 🙂 Good music as well
Dario Vega★☆☆☆☆
Worst experience ever! Avoid this place if you’re visiting Colmar. I actually stopped leaving reviews for a while, but this one truly deserved it. We thought we could at least get a decent pizza for dinner, but we were completely wrong. If I could give it zero stars, I would. The pizza tasted frozen and undercooked, and the bolognese pasta had no tomato sauce, almost no meat, and no flavour at all, it literally tasted like water. The service was very slow . This is meant to improve, not to just complain. Picture shows the place from outside.
Dennis S.★★☆☆☆
Pasta sauces were watery and lacked taste. Aubergines in the pasta were not prepared well, had a rubbery consistency. The tomate sauce was very bland. Truffle sauce was very bland and the truffles in the sauce did not taste fresh. The pasta itself seemed to be the cheapest kind. Very disappointing overall. I could've cooked a better meal at home. Please put a little more effort in your cooking, it's not that hard to make a good pasta dish.

La Pinata is definetly the best Italian Restaurant in Colmar. In fact this is our best meal in our whole 2 week vacation in France. Great Foof, Great Staff, Great Ambiance. That place is Highly recommanded.

My recent visit to La Pignata restaurant in Colmar left me enchanted. From the impeccable flavors of authentic Italian dishes to the attentive service and charming ambiance, every aspect of the experience was simply outstanding. If you're in search of a true taste of Italy in Colmar, this restaurant is a must-visit.
Annelies Becker★★☆☆☆
Very heavy food with a lot of cream. Rude staff who called us 'buddy' and pretended not to understand us when we tried our best in French. English wasn't even an option.
Jon Benjamin★★★★★
Arrived without a reservation on a Friday evening and they were full but squeezed us in by bringing out another table for two. Really attentive and fast service, despite being busy, and we enjoyed the generously sized tuna salad and pizza, which they helpfully agreed to only half cover with anchovies! Good value too!

I had a fantastic experience at Lucca —truly one of the best Italian restaurants in Colmar. The food was incredibly fresh and full of flavor, and every dish felt thoughtfully prepared. The bread was especially amazing, perfectly complementing the meal, and the wine selection was excellent. I absolutely loved everything about the food here. If you’re looking for authentic, high-quality Italian cuisine, this is definitely the place to go. Easily the best Italian spot in Colmar!

Wow, this place was a pleasant surprise. They only had a daily set menu, but it was fantastic. The pasta and chicken were fantastic. Everything was hand made to order. Highly recommend this place.

Amazing Italian restaurant. We visited mainly because we stayed in nearby hotel and we were too tired to go to old town..so we didn't have big expectations... But it was delicious, amazing quality, full of ingredients..really something rare outside of Italy. Don't hesitate to visit!
Andreea Mitrache★★★★★
Very good food, fast service and a good variety of Italian dishes. But try to book in advance a table, as it’s always busy and never find a table if you just walk in.

This is a wonderful local restaurant. We are visitors to Colmar and ate here twice. The pasta was always cooked perfectly. Every dish we ate was so tasty. Very fresh ingredients were used.

The pizzas were gooood! They are definitely among the best I’ve ever had. The service was quite fast, and the staff were very friendly and welcoming

I ordered Escargots, Spaghetti Bolognese, and Viennoise, and they were great. The portions were generous, but there is room for improvement in the overall customer experience.

Very nice, we came without a reservation, they made an effort to give use a table. The food is good, portions are quite big. The service is excellent!

What a great discovery, just 2 blocks away from the to tourist frenzy of Colmar's historic district. Had a fabulous lunch of farfarel (spelling?) pasta (flat wide noodles) with chorizo and mushroom sauce and grated cheese. Added 2 small green salads and total only €24. Plenty of food to share for 2 hungry adults. Probably the best pasta ever. Added some wonderful Italian wines at only about €4 per glass. Super friendly and knowledgeable bartender and serving staff. All the clientele appears to be local residents and business people. Not a tourist in sight (except for us two). A genuine Italian restaurant. It made our day.

Hands down the best pizza I have ever had! The crust was incredibly fluffy and perfectly fired — unlike anything I have tasted before. If you are a pizza lover, this is an absolute must-try. A truly unforgettable slice!

Proper neapolitan style pizza made in France. All ingredients are supreme quality, service quick and staff really friendly. They definitely know what neapolitan pizza is all about! Photos don't do it justice, sorry, but i was starving and couldn't be bothered taking better pictures 🙂

The best pizza I remember eating. Can't believe I actually went back half an hour later to get a second one. The crust is amazing, the ingredients fresh and tasty, and very quick but still perfectly baked. Please come to Switzerland, I need you there

Very nice pizzas 🍕 to take away, also very interesting flavours especially for the chilly lovers. Also they sell some traditional Italian products, including nduja, wines and Grom ice cream. There might be waiting time as they are quite popular, so better to call in advance.

Be aware that you have to order in advance. The lady in the counter told us that it will take 90 to 120 mins to make pizza ready due to already pending orders. It was a disappointment for us. No where this information is mentioned in the website.

We tried two classic Alsatian dishes: Baeckeoffe and Tarte Flambée. 🥘 Baeckeoffe — €21 A traditional slow-cooked dish with meat and potatoes. Both the meat and potatoes were soft and tender, although I felt the flavour could have been richer with a more flavourful sauce. The portion is suitable for one person. 🍕 Tarte Flambée — €11 It’s almost like a very thin version of pizza. I tried the classic version with cheese and ham. It was a good introduction to this Alsatian specialty, although I found the flavour a little plain for my taste. I’d like to try another variation next time. The portion is also suitable for one person. The restaurant was quite busy when we visited, but the waiting time for our food was still reasonable. The outdoor seating is a highlight, as it allows you to really enjoy the surrounding atmosphere. Just be aware that some people may smoke in the outdoor area, which can be a little disturbing at times. Overall, a good place to try traditional Alsatian food if you’re visiting Colmar.
Edona B★★★★★
I’m absolutely impressed! The food was incredibly delicious, fresh, and perfectly prepared. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients. The service was also very friendly and attentive. I will definitely come back and highly recommend this place! 🍽️✨

We all had pizza for dinner. The pizza's were quite big and reasonably priced for the location in the city centre. The pizza's arrived quite fast and they were tasty. It does say on the menu that changing a dish will cost you 2 euros. It wasn't clear if this is also the case if you ask to leave something off. Might be good to ask about in case of allergies or different food restrictions.

Had a quick lunch here. A good little warm atmosphere with good food. Wish to explore more of their menu. Check it out while in town. Both of our entree were good - tarte flambe and cordon blues

Good Italian restaurant on the outskirts of Colmar. We hadn’t booked but there were plenty of tables. Mainly French customers in a relaxed atmosphere. We had a huge mixed salad to start to share with pasta and pizza for main course. All excellent and large portions. No alcohol free beer so had a Perrier instead. Friendly staff and would definitely go again
Nadieh B★★★★★
The restaurant may not have the most stylish atmosphere, but the service more than made up for it — everyone was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The pizza was outstanding, full of flavor and perfectly prepared. Even though there wasn’t a vegan option on the menu, they happily created one for us, and it turned out to be absolutely delicious. We really appreciated the effort and left feeling very satisfied and happy!

A bust Italian restaurant, it's worth the wait for a table. I loved this place.

The hotel and location is lovely, we stayed for 1 night. Rooms look exactly as pictured on the site. A lot of care and effort seems to have gone into the design and comfort of the rooms. Besides that, friendly staff, free private parking & fresh breakfast. We didn't have the chance to eat dinner at the restaurant, but it seemed very nice as well!
Nathan Dailey (Cold Mountain Flooring)★★☆☆☆
This review is for the Hotel. I believe the owner has good intentions, however he is understaffed and overly busy. Too busy for his own good. Beautiful hotel and grounds, however misses the mark on customer service, at least for myself, the dining patrons seemed to absorb all of the service.
Dominique Magada★☆☆☆☆
An unfortunate experience…my godmother was assaulted by two dogs coming out of the restaurant as she made her way to the dining room, she fell and broke her hip and wrist. Things happen but what shocked me was the blatant lack of care and concern from the staff. My mother had to insist to call an ambulance, they were put waiting at the back of the dining room without being attended to at any moment. I call that NEGLIGENCE especially towards two elderly ladies who have known eaxh other since kindergarten and were celebrating their joint birthday. Good service and car for customers should be top of the list, in this place it is below the bottom.
Laura Bohorquez★★☆☆☆
Overall, unfortunately, our stay was disappointing. The room decor was okay, but it felt quite empty and lacked basic touches like nightstands and artwork. We had dinner in the restaurant downstairs, which looked nice, but the food had some unusual flavor combinations that didn’t really work together. The atmosphere also felt quite stressful, and we had to ask several times for our wine to be refilled. Breakfast was very underwhelming as well. The biggest issue was the bathroom, which had a very strong, unpleasant smell, like stagnant or sewage-like water. We reported it, but instead of someone coming to inspect and resolve the issue, we were simply given an odor spray to use ourselves, which felt very unprofessional. At checkout, nobody even asked how our stay was. When we mentioned the odor again, there was very little concern or follow-up. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t match what we expected, and we would not recommend staying here.

Excellent restaurant. One Michelin star surely on it’s way. Go there, while it’s still rather unknown and affordable. And maybe again, when it has had it’s due share of fame.

I ordered a medium-rare steak and it came out well done and incredibly tough. It was very hard to chew. I let the staff know, but they insisted it was due to cartilage, which wasn’t the case. Overall, a very disappointing experience. Photos attached as their ‚medium rare‘ steak.

This was a phenomenal Italian cuisine experience. The pizzas were one of the best I've ever had, the cheese and other ingredients tasted magnificent! The pasta was clearly made within the restaurant and not store bought ingredient, the tagtilatelle sauce and burrata cheese were too good yes as well. My choice: Parmigiana and Margarita pizzas and tagliatelle pesto and burrata pasta.
Eddy Nemer★★★★★
A great modern restaurant for tasty diversified dinner! The place doesn’t take reservations and seats at the minute which is amazing because all restaurants around are Full and don’t accept anyone in!! We did not wait long until we had a table and the staff are friendly and respectful! As for the menu and food; very affordable and reasonable prices for the served portion, platters beautifully presented and taste does not disappoint! Definitely recommended if you’re looking for a headache free dinner!

Fun place to eat and good food The server was fun to talk to as well, initially we struggled in French but suddenly he started talking i’ English after a couple of minutes so it was a bit weird! Very generous portions for the price they have which is fair We came to Colmar very hungry after 21pm on a weekday and were glad we bumped into this place after searching everywhere with everything closing around 9-10pm Would come back again

Great food for a fair price. We shared a pizza for lunch with some drinks. The pizza’s here are really delicious. A table next to us even got a pizza in the form of a star! Would recommend sitting on the street terrace. The view of the second terrace in the back is a bit disappointing. The toilets here are very clean and tidy (no toilet seat though!)

Tips for Enjoying Italian Food in Colmar

To ensure your dining experience is as smooth as a good olive oil, it helps to understand the local dining culture. While Colmar is a tourist hub, the best restaurants operate with the precision and timing of a well-run Italian kitchen. Knowing when to book, what to expect regarding service, and how to navigate the menu will significantly enhance your meal. Here are some practical tips to keep in mind before you head out to eat.

Book Ahead, Especially on Weekends
Colmar is one of the most visited cities in France, and its restaurant capacity is limited by the historic buildings that house them. If you have your heart set on a specific trattoria or a high-end ristorante, do not rely on walk-in availability. Call a day or two in advance, or use online reservation platforms, particularly if you are dining between 7:00 PM and 8:30 PM on a Friday or Saturday night.

Embrace the Alsatian-Italian Fusion
While purists might seek out the most authentic "Italian" pizza, some of the best culinary surprises in Colmar come from the blending of borders. Do not be afraid to try a pizza or pasta dish that incorporates local Munster cheese, smoked Alsatian bacon, or a drizzle of local crémant. This cross-cultural experimentation often results in unforgettable flavor combinations that you cannot find anywhere else in the world.

Check the Lunch Formulas
Dining out in France can be expensive, but lunch is almost always the best value. Many of Colmar’s top Italian restaurants offer a "Formule Midi" or set lunch menu. This typically includes a starter and a main course, or a main course and dessert, at a significantly reduced price compared to the à la carte dinner menu. It is an excellent way to experience fine dining on a budget.

Look for Wood-Fired Ovens
If pizza is your priority, pay attention to the equipment. The best pizzerias in Colmar use traditional wood-fired ovens that reach temperatures upwards of 400 degrees Celsius. This creates the leopard-spotted charring on the crust and a soft, airy interior that is impossible to replicate in a standard electric oven. A quick glance at the kitchen or a look at photos of the crust can tell you everything you need to know.

Allow Time for the Italian Pace
In Italy, dinner is a marathon, not a sprint, and many authentic Italian restaurants in Colmar have adopted this philosophy. Do not expect the bill to arrive the second you finish your last bite. Waiters will typically wait for you to request the check. Take your time, enjoy a digestivo like limoncello or an espresso, and soak in the atmosphere. Rushing through a meal is considered a faux pas in both French and Italian culture.
