12 Best Family-Friendly Restaurants in Bordeaux

Dining out with the family in Bordeaux is a genuine pleasure rather than a logistical challenge. The city’s culinary scene has evolved to warmly welcome children, moving beyond simple high chairs to offer dedicated menus, engaging atmospheres, and patient service. From the historic stone lanes of Vieux Bordeaux to the trendy Chartrons district, you’ll find tables where parents can savor the region’s rich gastronomy without worrying about a side-eye from the staff.

The key to a successful family meal here lies in choosing establishments that understand the rhythm of dining with little ones. This often means flexible seating times, swift service to avoid restlessness, and menus that balance familiar favorites with local flavors. Many Bordeaux restaurants now proudly source ingredients from local markets, meaning even a simple children’s pasta or steak haché is elevated by quality produce.

Beyond the food, the ambiance is crucial. The best family-friendly spots offer a lively but relaxed buzz that naturally absorbs the happy chatter of children. You’ll also find practical amenities such as space for strollers, accessible restrooms, and sometimes even a small play corner or coloring sheets to bridge the gap between ordering and the first bite.

Bordeaux’s geography plays a role, too. Restaurants near the Jardin Public or the vast esplanade of Place des Quinconces are ideal for a pre-dinner runaround or a post-meal stroll. Meanwhile, the pedestrian-friendly streets around Saint-Pierre offer a safe environment for walking off dessert.

Our selection prioritizes genuine hospitality over gimmicks. We’ve considered not only the food quality but also the noise tolerance, menu flexibility, and the overall ease of the experience for families traveling with babies through to teenagers. These are places where you can build lasting travel memories over a shared plate of canelés or a perfectly cooked entrecôte.

Whether you are a local looking for a new weekend staple or a visitor navigating the city with a stroller in tow, this guide is designed to take the guesswork out of dining. Here are the standout addresses that consistently deliver on taste, comfort, and a welcoming atmosphere for all ages.

The first Impression was well, ordering drinks and food was done quick. The served wine was so far the only highlight, after opening and trying the bottle, i had to serve myself! The food was really under average, instead of mashed potatoe with parsley like in the menu, it was served with fries. The food was not tasty at all. Cordon blue from old ratings looks by far better! My food was definitely frozen food stuff and tasteless! The food of my wife, tenderlion from pork, you can not even chew! Bad quality of meet! Never again this Restaurant in Bordeaux! Maybe this Franchise chain is in other city better!

Throwback to summer ‘22, somewhere between dust on the road and too much sun in Bordeaux. Stumbled into Les Fils à Maman… one of those places that doesn’t try to impress you, just quietly drags you back. Food like it remembered you before you got complicated. Croquettes de Babybel, melting in on themselves. Cordon bleu, thick, unapologetic, the kind you don’t question. Os à moelle, heavy and honest. A filet “trop mignon” with that ridiculous coquillettes risotto, creamy like childhood daydreams. A megacheeseburger that couldn’t even spell dignity. And then dessert, because you don’t stop when you should. Tiramisu with Kinder. Molten cake giggling Nutella. Sugar, nostalgia, no restraint. The walls louder than the people. Old heroes. Plastic ghosts of the 80s and 90s. Backstreet’s back. Puffy blue jeans. Dusty abat jours next to what we once thought was the future. All of it staring back like it still knew something you already forgot. If saudade had a taste, it would be warm, a little greasy, and served without irony. And for a moment, it was enough. Modest hedonism. Domestic serenity.

You're instantly transported back to the 80's. From the soundtrack playing in the background to the decor. Please have an IPA with your burger & fries. And the cordon bleu with mashed potatoes is excellent. A very pleasant time trip!

Super nice place for the brunch - better to book if you are coming on the weekend! Would highly recommend if you would like to have some delicious food

The food was good, especially the sharing platter of starters and our burgers were succulent. In fact one of the best restaurant burgers I have ever tasted. However, the waiter was less than helpful. He appeared p!ssed off when we arrived for our booking as he was still eating. He didn’t info us that if we scanned the QR code we could have accessed the menu in English online. This was a real shame as his attitude created an atmosphere, when I’d booked this themed restaurant as a treat for me kids.

We absolutely loved this little hidden gem discovered in the neighborhood where we stayed the first day of our arrival in Bordeaux. The food was absolutely delicious and exquisitely well presented at a reasonable price. All made from scratch with seasonal produce and very creative flavor combinations. We ate outside of the typical French bistro situated on a neighborhood side road as we wanted to enjoy the sunset.

The lunch menu is great value for money. The appetizer includes the main course for 14.3 euros, but I didn’t take a picture of the menu and forgot the name of the meal I ordered. I wonder could the owner reply to my question? Thank you!

We visited Au Family today with my family, and we were thoroughly impressed. The food was exceptional — each dish was crafted with the finesse and flavor one would expect from a fine dining establishment, approaching even Michelin star quality. I chose the set daily menu, which included a soup, a main course, and a dessert for only €19.50 — an outstanding value for such high-quality cuisine. We also tried the daily special featuring sea bream with asparagus, which was perfectly cooked and priced at just €9. The house rosé wine from the Bordeaux region was another pleasant surprise: fresh, well-balanced, and a whole bottle for only €14. The flavors were sophisticated, the wine excellent, and the overall experience truly enjoyable. The staff was warm, welcoming, and always smiling, which added to the positive atmosphere. A hidden gem in Bordeaux — perfect for families and anyone who appreciates gourmet food at very reasonable prices. We will definitely be returning!

A lovely evening in this cozy restaurant nested in a quiet and quaint neighborhood near the main hospital cluster. Inventive cuisine, crossing over French fare and overseas influences. Great wines selection, beyond business as usual. Will come back and can warmly recommend this spot that has been popular for over 40 years among Bordeaux patrons.

Marvellous food and the most wonderful waitress who was so kind to non-french speakers. Would highly recommend.

Petit Mignon is often considered one of the best burger joints. Frankly, it felt whroe overrated. The burger itself was good, but nothing exquisite. The fries servied along with could've been way better! Quite subpar. The beer options should've been more diverse. Service itself could've been better, lacked the hospitality and warmth that's typically expected. The restaurant itself seemed basic at times uncomfortable due to limited space, and heat from ovens/grill could directly be felt at the table, making it a little uncomfortable. Lastly, the toilets in the basement were absolutely gross! While the decor was nice, the toilets were packed with fruitflies (or similar). Needs better cleaning and hygiene!

Absolutely love this place! Im here for a study abroad trip and have ate lunch here for the last 3 days in a row! The food is magnificent, the service is out of this world, and its such a warm and cozy atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Small restaurant with great burgers. Often it is hard to get a table, so better make a reservation. Burgers are very tasty and cooked au point as you ordered. Staff is very friendly and it feels like sitting in the kitchen. Don't forget to order dessert, also very good.

Definitely if you go to Bordeaux you have to get a burger at this place with cheddar cheese!!! It’s insanely good and it is a hidden gem. The access to the restaurant is easy .

I randomly went into this restaurant with my girlfriend and we won the food lottery! Honestly one of the best burgers I have ever had and a hearty salad that was unbelievable! The staff was super friendly and incredibly helpful since we barely speak a lick of French. The whole experience was amazing and I couldn’t be happier that we stumbled into such a great GREAT place ❤️ 🙌

The restaurant has such a lovely ambiance—airy, cozy, and welcoming. The food was generally good, although the regular salad was a bit tasteless. Overall, we enjoyed everything else we ordered, especially the kids’ meals. The service was also great, and the staff were very friendly, attentive, and accommodating. Overall, we had a pleasant dining experience and would be happy to come back.

When we arrived they took forever to seat us, same during serving and took them slightly over half an hour to provide us with a bill and be able to pay for the food The food was great but not worth all the waiting around. Completely different treatment for non french speakers.

We went to this restaurant to celebrate my sister’s birthday while staying in Bordeaux. Terrible decision. I informed them in advance that it was her birthday, and yet they still gave us a table at the back of the rooftop. The variety on the menu was very limited and the quality… it’s just not what you expect for the price you are paying. But the worst part was that I had ordered a surprise birthday cake in advance, which I paid €32 for, and they didn’t even remember. Once our table was cleared and 20 minutes had passed with no cake arriving, I had to go and ask for it twice. They told us it was ready but that they didn’t know which table it was for. That was a lie — it wasn’t ready at all. The had to improvise a cake last minute. Once the cake was ready they still couldn’t find the table (even though we had reminded them 3 times). The result: the cake finally arrived at 11.30 (we finished dinner at 10.30), served in a pot, raw and melted. It couldn’t even be cut into pieces, so we had to eat it straight from the pot. And obviously, it was no longer a surprise for my sister. With all this chaos going on, she obviously realised what was happening. Absolutely disappointing service from the restaurant. We didn’t receive a single apology. The best thing about this place: the views.
Ning Leow★★★★☆
It was the rare restaurant that could accommodate a massive group of 20 without a reservation. Service was friendly but it was challenging to get the servers’ attention, and our food did take an hour after putting in our orders before they started to arrive, so we were left ravenous for a while. My steak was so-so with a rarely dry under seasoned cous cous, but their deviled eggs appetiser and pizzas were great!

Nice spot with epic views. Just had burgers, flavourful and properly cooked.

AI Perplexity put me onto this restaurant. “L’Autre Petit Bois (12 Place du Parlement) is a quaint, affordable bistro on a lovely square just steps from the old town, known for stellar tartines and salads — perfect for a light lunch before a wine tasting.” I concur and we will be back!

Overall, the experience was quite ordinary. The food was just so-so and didn’t leave a strong impression. Unfortunately, the service staff were rude, which negatively affected the visit. Not a very good experience, and there is room for improvement, especially in service and hospitality.

Wow! We popped in for a quick lunch and it ended up being a highlight of our whole trip! Massive portions of delicious food for very reasonable prices. Our waiter was so lovely too, he really made the experience amazing!
Will Pirnasch★★★★★
Nice place for a simple but good dinner or a glass of wine. The food selection is limited to toast with stuff and hot cheese bowls; the toasts are huge and good. No reservations possible, and it might very well be full during main dinner time (8-9 pm), so come a bit earlier or be prepared to wait a bit.
Graham Roberts★★★★★
We stopped in here for a "quick lunch" while exploring Bordeaux and ended up polishing off a lovely bottle of wine and having far more food than we intended! A lovely little place, and the Croque Monsieur Landais I had was absolutely gorgeous.

I was slightly disappointed by the vegan and gluten free option having items removed, but not replaced and therefore no great protein source with the meal. It was very tasty, but, just needed a bit more input to be really great. The cafe was very cute though and had a nice atmosphere.

Found this lovely place during our Bordeaux visit. Located in a quiet neighborhood, easily accessible by bus and short walk. The staff was very hospitable and helpful, tried her best to explain the dishes to us. The food was delicious, we had squid ink risotto and pot au fue scallop, with beef bone marrow. Thank God for this wonderful experience. Sadly, we were full and had no room for dessert. Do make reservation in advance 🙂

4 of us had a beautiful wonderful time in France in 1st half of April. Out of all the meals we had, La Croix Blanche stands out most unforgettable for me😍🤩😋 Their google info attracted us thus we walk-in without any reservation. The neighborhood was very quiet when we arrived. We were warmly welcomed and soon learned that the restaurant serves customers via reservations and we only managed to get a table that’s sandwiched between the popular sections😅 But as our table was located close to the kitchen serving window, we could smell the different dishes in preparation 😃😋 The friendly and helpful female staff patiently explained the daily menu to us 👍🏻😘 I’m still flavoring my order while writing this review 😋😋 In my lifetime of 60years, I’ve never tasted this delicious combination❣️ When we were leaving, it felt like we’d not only 5 stars but a 7 STARs Dining Experience ❤️ I hope to revisit La Croix Blanche should I do travel to Bordeaux next time 💖 Highly Highly Recommended 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Wow. I can not reccomend this enough. We had just a short walk from our airbnb but this is worth the trip if you live closer to the centre. Delicious wine and food, I highly recommend the Tomato Tatin. Great service as well, we had a lovely chat with the staff before leaving. 40€/person was for 2 glasses of wine, starter and main course. A bargain for this quality!

I had made early reservations at 19:30, for 7 people and we arrived on time after a lovely walk from our hotel at First Name Hyatt (Which is central to everything and I will separately write about it) and of course we were a rather rowdy ladies in their 70s who don't see each other often, and we have been friends since high school and through college. They had prepared a menu in English for us on their chalkboard. And the gentleman who served us could not have been more helpful, friendly and courteous! They took us to their lovely garden, where we sat along a lovely table and ate an absolutely fantastic meal! The white asparagus I had were amazing, the tuna was perfectly cooked: raw in the center but tasty. The dessert I had was light as a feather (had I not been embarrassed by my school friends I would have asked for another!) If I am ever in Bordeaux again, I would reserve a table there without hesitation! What a wonderful dinner it was for our first night at this Beautiful City. Thank you to the whole team.

Vachement bon. A french friend told us about this new restaurant and so glad we found it. The seafood and steaks are the specialty. I had tuna…cooked perfectly. The profiteroles for dessert home made and recommended. Friendly service. Cute terrace. Ps the lunch prices are unbelievably low

La Douce Parenthèse is a lovely little spot in Bordeaux. The place is small but very charming, with a cozy and calm atmosphere. Their tartes are really good—fresh, well-balanced, and clearly made with care. Everything feels fine and thoughtfully prepared. The staff is very helpful and kind, which makes the experience even more pleasant. A great place for a sweet break or a light bite. Definitely worth a visit.

Cozy and charming in the heart of Bordeaux. The quietest little spot right between two of the busiest walks--Rue Sainte Catherine and the river walk--in Bordeaux. So sweet and calm, almost like you're at a friend's place. And dog friendly: they even brought my little girl a bowl of water. Excellent coffee and cakes. Love this place.

What a superb find. A lovely little cafè, and a warm welcome A choice of 3 quiches today. A great evening meal at Les Droles restaurant. They have 2 servings, 7.15pm and 9.15pm and you MUST book to guarantee a table. Very small menu but delicious. We started off with fois gras and egg mayonnaise, followed by by swordfish and beef parmentier, creme brulee and creme citron. Set price E25. Excellent!

My friends and I stumbled upon this restaurant and we had the best dinner experience in Bordeaux. You get an appetizer, entree and dessert for €25. The drinks were affordable too. The two guys working there were so nice and welcoming to us (Americans), and we really appreciated our server’s kindness. The shepard’s pie and duck entrees were absolutely incredible, the soup appetizer was so fresh and flavorful, and the creme brûlée was phenomenal. We highly recommend this place!!

We had a fantastic meal here. The set dinner is great value for money and the dishes are well-executed with good portion sizes. Loved the soup, and the veal and rice was excellent. The duck breast was a little tough though.

Great place with a small set menu and cozy atmosphere. Delicious food, extremely nice and friendly staff; it’s a perfect place for a relaxed dinner.
Neda Bt★★★★☆
We had the duck foie gras as a starter, very delicious and perfectly seasoned. The bread crust is quite hard though, so be careful not to break your teeth. For the mains, we ordered the shepherd’s pie and the duck breast. Both were excellent. For the duck breast, if you’re not French or you don’t like seeing traces of blood, make sure to mention it in advance. For dessert, we had the crème brûlée, which was superb. The staff are nice and friendly, and the vibe is very cozy, especially in autumn and winter, as the main dining area is underground.

It is a lovely place for beer lovers as it is offering a vatiety of good craft beers in a nice atmosphere. There is also a buffet offered for a fee and you can also enjoy a beer flight of either 4 or 8 beers. Staff is very friendly and music is nice.

I was warmly welcomed by a young brunette woman. I really liked the fact that we could order directly from our table using a QR code 😅. It’s very well thought out and perfect for people like me who are a bit antisocial. The waiter was also very kind and helpful. He didn’t hesitate for a second to charge my phone for me. As for the food, it was good, but there wasn’t much choice when it came to desserts. Overall, everything was perfect and I had a really good experience!

Brick house or Backyard? Pizzeria or buffet restaurant? This restaurant has had multiple transitions and it’s very interesting how this restaurant is working constantly to improve itself. The vibes are 100/10, even though it can be crowded. The food was good and there are too many drinks to choose from! Only negative points: there are only 2 toilets for the whole restaurants (way too little), with too much red lights and which are often a bit gross.
Danny Standing★★★☆☆
Very empty on a Friday night. Got ignored by staff so gave up ordering drinks. Food was generally under seasoned and over cooked due to it sitting for so long. I ended up having to call a waiter as they’d not put the cover charge on the table when wanting to pay. Won’t be returning.

I had the menu of the day. The food quality is very good. The duck breast very tasty and the frites au maison were crisp and crunchy. However, they tasted a little bit too burned. Portion size is decent, but if you are hungry it is a little bit small. Overall it costs around 25€ including drink which is fine. Staff was very friendly. I would recommend this restaurant.

The food was delicious and the restaurant's atmosphère was welcoming. The prices were very reasonable for the amount and quality of food that was served. Kind and fast service, generous portions and tasty flavour combos! Definitely worth trying if you’re nearby. Pancakes by themselves felt a bit dry since I’m used to very fluffy and buttery, but the combination with the eggs made them delicious anyhow!

Enjoyed a serving of delicious banana pancakes yesterday at this spot near our hotel . Small restaurant was very busy and learned reservations preferred but they were able to seat us quickly. Marci.

When I went I had brunch with two savoury pancakes and one sweet and two drinks and a side, so it felt like really good value for money - I would have quite happily lost a pancake or the side and would still have happily paid the same. The waiter was nice despite my french not being great. I had a good time - I would go back.

Practical Tips for a Smooth Family Meal in Bordeaux

Understanding the local dining culture can significantly enhance your experience when eating out with children in Bordeaux. While the city is welcoming, a little preparation goes a long way in ensuring everyone enjoys the meal. Here are some insider strategies to help you navigate Bordeaux’s restaurant scene like a local family.

First, adjust your dining clock to French time. While many tourist-friendly spots serve food continuously, traditional kitchens often open for dinner at 7:30 PM. If you have younger children, aim for the earliest seating to secure a table and enjoy a calmer atmosphere before the main rush. Second, don’t hesitate to ask for a "carafe d’eau"—tap water is free and safe to drink, and waiters are happy to provide it for the table. Third, embrace the plat du jour. The daily special is usually the freshest, most affordable option and often arrives faster than à la carte dishes, which is a bonus when patience is running thin.

Fourth, explore the outdoor terraces. Bordeaux has a fantastic café culture, and dining al fresco is often easier with kids, allowing them a bit more visual stimulation and space. Finally, always check for the "menu enfant." While sometimes limited to basic fare, many Bordeaux kitchens are now offering miniature versions of their adult dishes, allowing children to explore local flavors in appropriately sized portions.

Exploring Bordeaux’s food scene with your family is one of the most rewarding ways to connect with the local culture. By choosing the right establishments and planning your meal times strategically, you can turn a simple dinner into a highlight of your trip. The city’s blend of rustic French cooking and modern, family-conscious hospitality ensures that no one has to compromise on quality or comfort.
