Lyon’s culinary reputation often centers on the traditional bouchon, but the city’s vibrant dining scene extends far beyond its French heritage. In recent years, a wave of exceptional Italian restaurants has transformed the gastronomic landscape, offering everything from rustic Neapolitan pizzas to refined handmade pasta dishes. For locals and visitors alike, the search for authentic Italian flavors in the capital of Gaul has become a delicious adventure.
The difference between a mediocre Italian meal and a memorable one often lies in the details: the quality of the flour used in the dough, the import of specific regional ingredients, and the slow simmer of a carefully crafted sauce. Lyon’s best Italian chefs understand this distinction, treating simplicity with the respect it deserves. They prioritize sourcing San Marzano tomatoes, using proper buffalo mozzarella, and mastering the delicate art of fresh egg pasta.
Whether you are wandering the cobblestone streets of Vieux Lyon or exploring the trendy neighborhoods of Croix-Rousse and the 7th arrondissement, you are never far from a quality slice or a plate of al dente perfection. The city has seen a boom in wood-fired ovens and artisanal workshops, making it a genuine destination for Italian cuisine enthusiasts. Understanding where to find the true gems, however, requires a curated guide.
This selection focuses on restaurants that deliver consistency, authenticity, and a welcoming atmosphere. We have considered the mastery of the pizzaiolo, the freshness of the pasta, the balance of the wine list, and the overall value for money. From family-run trattorias to sleek modern eateries, these establishments represent the pinnacle of Italian cooking in Lyon today.
To compile this list, we analyzed local culinary reviews, considered historical reputation, and evaluated the quality of ingredients used by each kitchen. The goal is to provide a resource that helps you avoid tourist traps and dine like a true Lyonnais foodie. Each recommendation offers a unique take on Italian cuisine, ensuring there is something for every palate and occasion.
Here is a detailed look at the definitive guide to the best Italian tables in the city.

Really good overall. Well deserved high ratings. The food was excellent, and the restaurant looks great inside too. I’d say its more of a fun casual vibe place with great food and amazing decor.
The pasta stood out most, especially the ribbon style one, which is not something you get at many places. Everything we had was full of flavour, and the pasta dishes had a really nice aroma. Cocktails were amazing too. Love many of the interesting selections.
The beef was really well done, the fried potato on the side was spot on, and dessert finished things off nicely, especially the ice cream and apple crumble.
Recommended to book in advance.

It was a lovely experience. My sister and I had dinner on the lower floor. The atmosphere on the ground floor and the lower floor is quite different, but I think both are nice in their own way🌸
The food was good—we had pasta and pizza, and both were enjoyable. For dessert, we ordered tiramisu, which was also very good. I had previously dined at this restaurant’s London branch, and the menu and flavors were very similar.
The only issue I had was that the service felt a bit slow. For example, when our dessert arrived, no dessert cutlery was brought to the table. We couldn’t mention it right away because we couldn’t see any waitstaff for quite a while. By the time the dessert spoons arrived, a significant amount of time had passed. I completely understand that dinner service can be busy, but having to wait that long before being able to eat our dessert didn’t feel quite right.
Other than that, we didn’t experience any problems and enjoyed our visit🥂

An amazing restaurant deserving the high rating. Food & service are both excellent but what stands out as you move into the caverns of this place is that each dining room is decorated differently, like moving through a portal into different regions of a country. My two kids enjoyed not just the food but the whole experience including the special truffle pasta and the desserts.

This was one of the most interesting and unusual restaurants I've ever experienced. First of all, I have to say that you absolutely must make a reservation, otherwise you'll have to wait in long queues outside for minutes. By the way, making a reservation doesn't mean you'll sit there for a long time. Your reservation is actually for a 1-1.5 hour time slot, as that's what the restaurant expects. Now, let's talk about the atmosphere... I haven't seen such detailed and meticulously decorated decor in a long time. Everything is beautifully thought out; you constantly feel the need to look around while you eat. Besides the beautiful atmosphere, the food is equally delicious and presented wonderfully. I couldn't find a single negative thing about this place. If you come to Lyon, you absolutely must visit this place before you leave.
RR★★★★☆
The ambiance is superb, romantic and charming. The food was ok but nothing to write much about. Similar to its other restaurants in London, the focus in on ambience and experience. Pasta was very chewy but starters were refreshing. Pleasant experience for sure.

On my way to my favourite Pizzeria (just around the corner) I now found a wonderful alternative.
Everything what you expect fom a Neapolitan style Pizza.
The Spritz drinks were a charm.

The whole experience was nothing short of awesome. The staff are absolutely lovely and of great advice. The location is beautiful and easy to reach. The food came super quickly and was incredible. Portions were very generous for a very fair price. Some really cool unusual things on the menu and lots of vegetarian options. Honestly I only have good things to say here. Try it!

Everything was great. The food we ordered were delicious. The staff can speak good English and they were very nice as well. The food price were affordable and it comes in big servings especially the tiramisu. I will definitely come back!
Adrian★★★★★
Went there for a dinner randomly, signature dish was pizza. And the pizza is absolutely the same with those in Italy, authentic. So for me it’s fantastic! And i recommend both of the pizza the portion is huge and men can barely finish one whole pizza. For me it would be really nice if they got more windows open because for me personally it was a little bit hot while eating. But apart from that I love this restaurant and I am definitely going back again!

My family had the most wonderful dinner here while visiting Lyon for the first time. The food was delicious, fresh, generously portioned, and the waitstaff was kind and patient. I don’t speak French very well, but that didn’t serve as a barrier for a wonderful evening. We ended up ordering a variety of dishes to share, but one pizza would have easily fed two people. We would come back in a heartbeat!
Aileen Ryan★★★★★
What a wonderful discovery! A,place with an atmosphere! Contemporary but laid back. Friendly and welcoming. Service very rapid and attentive. A special mention for Jerémie who looked after us and really contributed to our enjoyable evening!
Large menu with plenty choice. Very reasonable prices. Delicious food, generous portions, excellent pizzas.
Booking advised as they were very busy and people were waiting for tables.
Highly recommended!
Terrence Leeder★★★★☆
Very nice Italian restaurant. We made the mistake of ordering a pizza each, the pizza's are quite large, so one for 2 people works better, and leaves more room for dessert. Both of our pizzas were very nice. Well cooked, and very tasty. Dessert was also excellent, but we were very full after the pizza we decided to share.
The waitstaff were very nice and helpful, a very friendly atmosphere.
The restaurant is very popular, and the tables quite close together. That coupled with the heat from the pizza oven means the dining area gets quite warm, so dress accordingly. If the weather is nice, eating outside, while not having the ambiance of the main dining area, has a more reasonable temperature.
Prisacariu Raluca★★★★★
Absolutely amazing Italian restaurant!
From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel incredibly welcome - extraordinary, friendly, and genuinely kind. The service was excellent, and the food arrived very quickly. Everything we ordered was out of this world and incredibly flavorful. We had the pizza calzone, pizza tartufo DOP, osso buco, and pasta carbonara - every single dish was outstanding. Authentic flavors, great atmosphere, and top-notch service. We will definitely be coming back and highly recommend this place to anyone who loves real Italian cuisine.
Celia Falcón★★★★★
Wonderful find!
Authentic Italian spot with top‑notch ingredients, a creative menu, and super welcoming staff.
We tried the truffle and pistachio‑mortadella pizzas—both incredible with wood‑fired, homemade dough. The scaloppes were great too (the one with cheese and ham is a must).
Definitely worth a visit 🫶

Excellent restaurant, way beyond our expectations which were pretty high. We had an amazing dinner from appetizers to desert, the wine was perfectly paired with the grilled octopus. Can't wait to return! Congratulations to every member of the team for your hard work!

Been there twice already. One of the best Italian food in Lyon. Very cozy place with great ambiance. Feels like Sicily. Quality of the pasta is great. Portions are good. Amazing taste. Good drinks too. As for the desert the tiramisu is to die for. Highly recommended.

Great discovery in Lyon! We arrived a bit late without reservation and they were super nice welcoming us
We shared pasta Fresca, Paccheri dell’etna, with a sauce with minced pork, cream and pistachio that was amazing, and the arancini, which were not the tastiest ones but were well prepared.
As a dessert we tried the tiramisu which was really great.
The decoration of the place is really beautiful as well!
Rawi★★★★☆
A beautiful and charming spot with lovely decor and music. The menu offers a great selection of dishes, cocktails, and wines.
The portions are generous, and the service is quick and friendly.
I higly recommend the Tiramisu.
However, the prices are a bit steep despite the overall positive experience.

A very nice place, if you want to eat good authentic Italien food, this is what you’re searching for… The only complainI hav, would be that the bottom of the pizza was slightly burned. A certain amount of dark charring is important for a pizza, but here it was a bit too much for my taste. The Ambiente is nice but it can get a bit warm inside. Besides that, the place was stunning! I can definitely recommend it if you’re around👌🏼

Entree was very generous being a sharing plate ,beautifully presented with the housemade flat bread. Unfortunately however the mains were disappointing. My gnocchi was hard and the other pasta dish with tomatoes and olives was nearly too salty to be edible. Both served were generous in size.

Wonderful experience at Falcone. The staff was incredibly kind. I’m pregnant, and they carefully explained the menu and clearly guided me through what I could safely eat, which I really appreciated. The non-alcoholic spritz was excellent, and the food was absolutely delicious.

We came to Falcone for a hen party dinner, and from start to finish it was perfect! The owner, Charlie, couldn’t have done more for us – he’s so passionate about his food and wine, and it really shows in every detail. He made sure we were comfortable, happy, and having a great time throughout the evening.
Charlie went above and beyond to accommodate us, creating such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The highlight was when he even put on our favourite music through the speakers so we could enjoy a completely personalised experience – such a thoughtful touch!
The food was amazing, the wine was incredible, and every member of staff was friendly and lovely. I would recommend Falcone to absolutely anyone visiting Lyon – it’s a place where you feel truly looked after.

The food is truly incredible here. We had the truffle pizza (with a homemade truffle cream) the freshness of the truffles was outstanding. Definitely the best pizza in Lyon! We also had the pavlova for dessert, and it was refreshing, sweet and delicious with lots of fresh berries and a homemade coolis. The owner Charlie is very welcoming and gives great recommendations and is very passionate about the food they serve!

10/10 recommend, do not miss this place! We found a piece of Italy in Lyon and we couldn't be happier. We stumbled upon the restaurant after a very sad experience at dinner elsewhere. We were still hungry and wandered around our Airbnb neighborhood and saw how busy Romantico da Antonio e Marco was, we thought to stop in and see if we can have 2nd dinner. We were lucky they had a table for 2 outside at 9pm. We quickly ordered a pizza and some wine. We didn't take any photos because it was so good, we ate it quickly. Although the restaurant was completely full, and the staff were so busy, we felt they did the best they can to make us feel welcomed and the service was excellent. Things took a long time but you can see everyone was running around to make sure their clients were all happy. The pizza was so amazing, we decided we must order another one for takeaway (it was late and we wanted to rest at home) and ordered the trio of desserts. It comes with espresso, gelato, tiny tiramisu and tiny panna cotta. We're so glad we did because all items were phenomenal! The tiramisu was perfection and so was the panna cotta with strawberries. We loved everything so much, we told the we could come back for lunch the next day, and we did! For lunch, we ordered the lasagna and clams spaghetti, and the full size order of tirsamisu and panna cotta (I was dreaming of these 2). ALL were delicious! We learned that the chef is from Naples, Daniela, opened up the restaurant with his friend. They also won the best pizza award in France 2025 & 2026. We can tell how much they loved what they do as you can taste it in the food. THIS PLACE IS A MUST VISIT. We'll be dreaming of the pizza, tirsamisu and panna cotta for years to come. It's marked on our map as a must return spot. Thank you Daniela and staff for a wonderful last dinner and lunch in Lyon. It was a fantastic ending to our trip in France.

We were lucky to get a table without a reservation, but I would definitely recommend booking in advance because the place seems very popular. The interior is absolutely beautiful — so many lovely details to look at, it creates a really special atmosphere.
We enjoyed the food very much, and the service was friendly and attentive as well. A great spot for a cozy dinner in Lyon!

If you are looking for an amazing Italian dining experience, you absolutely must try Romantico Da Antonio e Marco! We originally came in for a late dinner on a Thursday and had a pizza so perfectly cooked that we dove right in and forgot to take photos. In fact, we loved it so much we ordered a second pizza to go and finished the evening with tiramisu and a fantastic espresso.
The food was so incredible that we actually went back for a late lunch just so we could take pictures! Even while busy, the waiters were incredibly kind and perfectly accommodating to us as English-speaking visitors, seating us at a charming table outside within minutes. This time, we had a few glasses of wine and ordered the lasagna. Just look at the photos—it was absolutely wonderful! They even served our water in a super fun, quirky rooster carafe.
Between the food, the vibe, and the wonderful service, I cannot highly recommend this restaurant enough. You have to give it a try!

We've eaten here several times and it never disappoints, Coralie our server was very kind and answered any questions we had, she was attentive without being in our face. We took our daughter for dinner, had a great meal, yes it's loud and a bit small but the food is delicious and then truffe and speck pizza is off the charts!

The atmosphere and service was really good. The only let down were the pasta carbonara, which I have to say were the worst I’ve ever had, so I wouldn’t recommend getting that.

Case Nobile a very famous place in Lyon for authentic Italian cuisine. The place is located near bellcour metro station. The food is really delicious and Tiramisu is a must try . They don’t accept advance reservations so you have to be prepared for that. The Avg waiting time is 10-15 mins on rush hours . The prices are okay as per the restaurant standards. The staff is nice and welcoming. If you prefer authentic pizza you should give it a try . The price for pizza is between 12-20 euros . A glass of wine is around 4-6 euros . Overall I like the place

We went here for dinner, and it was an amazing experience. My partner ordered one of their signature pizzas, and I had a pasta with a cream sauce, mushrooms, and sausage. Both dishes were excellent and incredibly satisfying.
I had hoped to order dessert, but after such a hearty meal there simply wasn't any room left.
Our server was lovely, very charming, and encouraging of us as we practiced our French. The food really hit the spot after a long day of walking. My partner even said it was one of the best pizzas he'd ever had. I think the combination of mozzarella, smoked provolone, and crème fraîche came together to create an incredible balance of flavors.

Was getting hungry walking around Lyon. Saw this place and Thought what the heck we didn’t see any smokers so we said this is our spot.
Was I amazed at the pizza - definitely spot on. We had the daily special, you can check out the photos.
Crust perfect In little bubbly little crunch. Also, the crust has cheese in it so it’s stuffed crust.
Flavors of fresh basil cheeses and ham. Service is wonderful. With a smile. Definitely attentive. Very nice people very friendly people.
I would definitely come here again.

A fantastic Italian restaurant with authentic flavors and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The food is fresh, beautifully prepared, and full of taste. The pizza was perfectly cooked, and the ingredients were clearly of excellent quality. The service was friendly, attentive, and professional from start to finish. If you're looking for a great Italian dining experience in Lyon, I highly recommend Nano Vendôme. I'll definitely be back.

Fantastic place. We had great service & conversation from Moana. My friend & I shared a pizza & the amazing seafood pasta, Stracci al Farouk. It was the best pasta dish I had for a long time!
Hansel JMR★★☆☆☆
The pizza was good but they allow dogs inside. If you are allergic to dogs be aware of that.
We waited such a long time for our coffee… they definitively forgot about us so we had to ask for it again. When they brought the coffee it was the wrong order.
Crazy chaos.

NANO was a very pleasant surprise in the 6th. The Faruk pasta was cooked perfectly and I was hooked to the unique taste. The tiramisu was so good; the service we received was stellar. The generous staff accommodates us for all the little bits. We want to go back but didn’t have enough time. Saving this spot for the next trip. Another good memory made in Lyon.

Came here because of time-left dinner. Too pricy, cold pizza, tiramisù not good. The staff continued to speak to us in French even though it was scheduled as an English-table with the time-left app, making the people at the table who did not speak French unconfortable.

Excellent Italian restaurant with a warm atmosphere and very friendly service. The pizzas are delicious, made with fresh, high-quality ingredients and perfectly cooked. My absolute favorite is the goat cheese and honey pizza—the combination of creamy goat cheese and sweet honey is simply amazing. Every visit has been a great experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic Italian food in Lyon.

I had dinner last night with my teammates, we really enjoyed the food and the waiter was attentive and very nice. The food was really tasty and we had delicious drinks as well. I will visit again for sure and I recommend everybody to pay a visit there.

It's in a perfect location to grab a drink and a bite to eat, especially after shopping 🙂 We ordered Al Tartufo and Croquettes pasta champignons with Spritz de la Mamma for dinner. We enjoyed everything and everyone was extremely polite. Definitely worth another visit.

We ate here twice, the first time we had pizza and salad - very good. Tomato sauce on pizza was excellent. Second time we had spaghetti carbonara and we’re not impressed… it was not rich and creamy as expected of the dish. Both days the small salad was very good, great vinaigrette.

Came for lunch with my girls and the olace is absolutely beautiful. Food was amazing, I would recommend the tiramisu drink for dessert! Our server Jasmine was amazing star, very attentive!

This place offers great value for money, striking a perfect balance between price and quality. The staff are courteous and attentive, and the food is truly excellent, with plenty of delicious vegetarian options to choose from. I’d recommend making a reservation, especially during peak lunch hours. Their crema di pomodoro soup is particularly outstanding

A very nice visit to L’osteria, the atmosphere was warm and welcome, the host friendly and Marine was so pleasant and helpful, she was very busy but maintained a really friendly demeanour. The food was excellent and the chocolate soufflé was unbelievably good, overall a very pleasant and enjoyable experience and L’osteria.

Absolutely disappointed. The people who cook here lack passion and it shows. I frequently order from the Nizier establishment and their agio olio spaghetti is excellent ...but today ordered for delivery from the part dieu branch. The agio olio spaghetti which is the easiest spaghetti to make is bland tasteless and the order came with more than half the box empty. I would not recommend wasting your money.

Pizza is good and quite big.
I find it a bit rude when waiter put a "reserved" sign to our table before we start our dessert. Once our pizza arrived we spend only 40 45 min which is totally normal with that amount of pizza and with a children. The sign was like "finish your dessert fast and empty the table asap" because its not makes sense to put "reserved" sign when you not allow anyone enter the restaurant without a waiter till their table...

Famosa offers a delightful taste of Italy, with a particular strength in Sicilian cuisine. While the pizzas are good, this restaurant truly shines with its tempting Sicilian specialties.
Sicilian Stars:
The Arancini are a must-try. These crispy fried rice balls come bursting with flavor, and the Cannolo Siciliano is the perfect way to end your meal on a sweet note. The ricotta filling is light and creamy, perfectly complementing the crispy shell.
Beyond Sicily:
Of course, Famosa doesn't stop at Sicily. They offer a variety of classic Italian dishes, including pizzas. While the pizzas are tasty, focusing on the Sicilian primi piatti (first courses) is the way to go for an authentic and truly delicious experience.
Relaxing Atmosphere:
The restaurant boasts a lovely terrace, perfect for enjoying a warm summer evening. And if the weather isn't cooperating, the interior provides a relaxing and inviting ambiance.
Overall:
Famosa is a great choice for anyone seeking delicious Italian food, especially those with a fondness for Sicilian cuisine. The friendly atmosphere and charming decor make it a lovely spot for a casual meal with friends or family.
Pro Tip: If you're looking for a truly Sicilian experience, prioritize the Arancini and Cannoli, and explore the world of Sicilian primi piatti on the menu.

Outstanding food! We were visiting the silk district and wanted a nice lunch. We found the staff here very friendly. The food was amazing. I had the Escalope A la Milanaise (veal scalopini) and it was divine. I don't have any pictures of it because I dived into it as soon as it was placed before me. Risotto with truffle flakes was the special for the day and it was also amazing. This is a must stop for lunch in this area.

Wonderful place with delicious lasagna and amazing selection of wines.
UPD! Since my last visit the food there just get better.
Thank to their chef when I hear word "lasagna" I think about this restaurant!
Essential Tips for Choosing the Best Italian Dining Experience
Navigating Lyon’s Italian food scene can be overwhelming, especially when every corner seems to offer a new “authentic” pizzeria or trattoria. To ensure you get the most out of your dining budget and time, it is helpful to know what separates the truly great restaurants from the average ones.
By focusing on a few key indicators of quality and authenticity, you can elevate your meal from a simple dinner to a genuine Italian culinary experience.
1. Look for the Wood-Fired Oven
A proper pizza requires intense, dry heat that only a wood-fired or high-quality gas stone oven can provide. If you are craving Neapolitan style, check if the restaurant advertises a “forno a legna” (wood oven). The charring on the crust, known as “leopard spotting,” is a sign of a well-fermented dough cooked at high temperatures, not a burnt mistake.
2. Check the Pasta Philosophy
Authentic Italian restaurants are transparent about their pasta. The best establishments in Lyon make their pasta fresh daily using high-protein flours and slow-dried bronze-cut imports for specific shapes. If the menu specifies the pasta shape paired with the sauce—rather than offering a generic “choice of pasta”—it usually indicates a chef who understands Italian culinary tradition.
3. Respect the Seasonality of the Menu
Italy is a country driven by seasons, and its best chefs outside of Italy follow suit. If you see truffle dishes in August or fresh porcini mushrooms in January, be wary. The best Italian restaurants in Lyon adjust their menus to feature spring peas, summer tomatoes, and autumn mushrooms, ensuring the ingredients are at their peak flavor.
4. Value the “Less is More” Approach
Authentic Italian cooking relies on a few high-quality ingredients rather than an overload of toppings and cheeses. A true Margherita should have a balanced ratio of tomato, mozzarella, and basil. If a restaurant boasts pizzas with ten different toppings or pasta dishes with heavy cream sauces, it often signals a departure from traditional Italian technique toward fusion or fast-food style.
5. Don’t Skip the Antipasti and Wine List
The main course is only part of the story. A great Italian restaurant will invest in its starters, such as quality burrata, imported cured meats, and grilled vegetables. Furthermore, an Italian-focused wine list—featuring regions like Piedmont, Tuscany, and Sicily rather than solely French wines—demonstrates a commitment to the complete dining culture of Italy.
The beauty of Lyon’s Italian dining scene lies in its diversity. You can find a slice of Naples in a bustling city-center pizzeria or enjoy the refined flavors of Emilia-Romagna in a quiet bouchon-style setting. These restaurants thrive because they honor the Italian philosophy of “cucina povera”—making incredible food from simple, honest ingredients.
Exploring these establishments offers a welcome contrast to the heavier, meat-centric traditional Lyonnais cuisine. Whether you are a resident looking for your new weekly spot or a traveler seeking a break from quenelles and andouillette, these Italian kitchens provide comfort, warmth, and exceptional flavor. Buon appetito!
