10 Best Tourist Attractions Near Casa de Campo

Casa de Campo is far more than Madrid’s largest urban park. While the sprawling green space itself offers lakes, cable cars, and endless trails, its strategic location on the western edge of the city makes it a perfect starting point for exploring some of Spain’s most fascinating cultural and historical landmarks.

Many visitors make the mistake of spending their entire trip confined to the narrow streets of central Madrid. By venturing just a few metro stops or a short drive beyond the park’s boundaries, you unlock a side of the capital that feels less crowded and infinitely more authentic.

The area surrounding Casa de Campo is a treasure trove of royal heritage, artistic masterpieces, and surprising architectural feats. From ancient Egyptian temples to riverside dining districts, the diversity of attractions means there is genuinely something for every type of traveler.

Because the park is so well connected by Madrid’s efficient public transport system, you do not need a car to access most of these sites. The Metro, light rail, and local buses drop you within walking distance of palaces, plazas, and panoramic viewpoints.

Whether you are a history buff looking to trace the footsteps of Spanish royalty or a family seeking a relaxing afternoon by the river, this guide covers the essential stops. You can easily combine a morning jog in Casa de Campo with an afternoon exploring a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We have curated this list based on accessibility, historical significance, and overall visitor experience. Each attraction offers a unique contrast to the natural landscape of the park, providing a well-rounded itinerary for your stay in Madrid.

Here are the best tourist attractions near Casa de Campo that you should add to your travel plans.

A beautiful park and great to grab a bike and ride or reserve a boat for a ride. A great way to spend a few hours. There are a few cafes and restaurants along the water
John Powell★★★★★
A vast park within easy reach of the city, using bus or Metro to the southern end. Easy to find plenty of space to walk, run or cycle once away from the attractions of the southern parts of park. Few public lavatories, however. In March, one was able to walk underneath nesting storks.

Gorgeous-a few degrees cooler than the center of the city and so much to do in nature 10/10 experience

Casa de Campo (translating to country house in Spanish) is a large public park located to the west of the historic centre of Madri. The park is over 1,700 hectares in size and is the largest park in Madrid. The park was originally a royal hunting estate and was created by King Philip II in the 16th century - from which the park gets its name. The estate was originally used primarily by Spanish royalty for leisure and was only opened to the public in 1931. This was due to the transition of Spain from a monarchy to a new Republican government which aimed to modernize Spain and break from class privilege and divide. Today the park features some spacious and beautiful forests and gardens and rolling hills, it is a great spot to take a break from busy city life and go for a walk. Due to the quantity of hills there are a lot of points from which visitors can appreciate panoramic views to the rest of the park and even back over to the city skyline. There are a lot of cycling options available too including a covered cycleway. There are other curiosities to find in the park too such as remaining Spanish Civil War bunkers and the Valdeza Aqueduct. Lago (lake) is a great spot for a picnic or for eating at one of the several lakeside cafes and is a nice entry point to visit the park. Metro access is available by the Lago station on line 10 of the Madrid Metro. Casa de Campo also boasts the Madrid Parque de Atracciones and the Zoo Aquarium de Madrid.

Casa de Campo is a wonderful escape from the busy city. It's a huge park with beautiful walking and cycling paths, peaceful lakes, and plenty of green spaces to relax. Whether you want to enjoy a picnic, go for a run, rent a bike, or simply take in nature, it's the perfect place to spend a few hours. The park is clean, well maintained, and offers fantastic views in several areas. It's a great spot for families, couples, and anyone looking for a quiet break while visiting Madrid. I would definitely recommend adding Casa de Campo to your itinerary.

Enjoyed the experience especially my kids and nieces. Some of the rides were closed and barely people in the theme park. 15 mins. max for queuing. It happened to be the Final of the World Cup between ARG-SPA that day… hence why probably there was a few visitors for the whole day. My girls enjoyed it so much as it was their first time!

We visited the park on 06/15/2026 with a large family of 6 people. The first impression is wonderful, but as soon as the queue for the attractions begins, the impression deteriorates sharply. To get to one attraction lasting 0.5 - 2 minutes, we had to stand in line for 1 - 1.5 hours. Many attractions are closed to visitors for unknown reasons. In my opinion, it is necessary to make a limited sale of tickets per day (like a concert) so that people can get to at least most of the attractions. I wish you success!

Great attractions for everyone! Family of 4. Great shaded areas, ideal for a picnic, or have a snack at the restaurants. Definitely put on your swimming suits! Just take the metro!

Parque de Atracciones de Madrid is a fantastic place for a family day out. It’s very easy to reach by metro, which makes the visit stress-free, especially with kids. We spent the whole day there with our two children, and they had an absolutely wonderful time. There are numerous attractions for all ages — from fun and gentle rides for younger kids to more exciting ones for older children and adults. The park is also surrounded by nature and green areas, which makes it pleasant to walk around and take breaks between rides. One of the highlights for our kids was seeing different cartoon characters walking around the park. It made the experience even more exciting and interactive for them. There is also a movie theater inside, along with various entertainment options throughout the park. Overall, it’s a great combination of fun, nature, and entertainment, and we would definitely recommend Parque de Atracciones de Madrid to families visiting the city. 🎢🌿
Willem Storme★★★☆☆
A small park with a handful of good attractions. One of the unfortunate things was that there was a lot of cutting in line, but the staff actually did absolutely nothing about it (except after closing time because they want to close). The staff also work slower than average, causing queues to form even when it is not busy. There is free parking, which is a big plus.

Elevated Wanderlust★★★★★
Visiting Templo de Debod on our first night in Madrid was one of the best decisions of the entire trip, and it was a surprise I had planned for the person traveling with me. After spending the afternoon exploring the cathedral and the Royal Palace, we walked through the Sabatini Gardens on the way up to the hillside, which we both really appreciated as a peaceful and beautiful lead-up to what was waiting at the top. I had seen on social media that, similar to what they do in parts of Italy, there are live street performers who gather here before sunset, and I knew that was exactly how I wanted us to start our time in Spain. We arrived at roughly 8 pm, and what greeted us was absolutely stunning. From the trail, it opens up to the Egyptian temple. It is possible to purchase tickets and enter; however, the last entry time had passed by the time we walked over. Behind the temple, there are multiple areas to stop and take photos of the city skyline. The viewpoint gives you this incredible elevated, panoramic perspective of Madrid, with the Palace and Cathedral to the left. As the sun went down, the light hit the temple in a way that made the whole scene feel almost surreal. The street performers were truly the heart of the evening, playing a mix of Spanish and English music while a crowd of locals and visitors gathered around them. The warmth there was not just from the sun. It was in the people, the music, and the feeling that everyone knew they were somewhere really special. We would absolutely go back.

Visited Templo de Debod and had an unforgettable experience. The temple is one of the most unique and fascinating landmarks in Madrid, combining ancient history, architecture, and beautiful scenery in a truly remarkable setting. One of the highlights is the extraordinary atmosphere surrounding the monument. The fact that an authentic ancient Egyptian temple stands in the middle of Madrid makes the experience feel both surprising and special. The structure is beautifully preserved and offers a strong sense of history and cultural significance. I especially appreciated the location and panoramic views around the temple. The open surroundings and reflecting pools create a calm and scenic environment, particularly during sunset when the lighting becomes especially beautiful. The area is ideal for photography, relaxation, and simply enjoying the peaceful ambience. The site is clean, accessible, and well maintained, with enough open space to walk around comfortably and admire the temple from different angles. The contrast between the ancient architecture and the modern city skyline adds even more charm to the experience. Another positive aspect is the cultural importance of the temple as a gift from Egypt to Spain, which gives the site additional historical meaning and uniqueness. Overall, a memorable and highly worthwhile visit. Templo de Debod is one of Madrid’s most distinctive attractions and highly recommended for anyone interested in history, architecture, photography, or scenic viewpoints.

Unreal Experience - Solar Eclipse & Stargasing at Templo de Debod! If you think Templo de Debod is just an ancient Egyptian temple in the middle of Madrid, think again—it is easily the best viewpoint in town for a celestial event. Catching the solar eclipse on the evening of August 12th from this exact spot was pure magic. Watching the sun dip low over the valley during the eclipse turned the sky unbelievable shades of deep orange, red, and dusky purple. After the sun set, the park transformed. Laying on the green lawns of Parque del Oeste to watch the Perseids shoot across the sky through the night and into the early morning was a core memory. The glowing, lit-up stone gateways provided the ultimate backdrop for stargazing until dawn. Before settling in for the cosmic show, taking a short, easy walk over to La Rosaleda rose garden made for a relaxing start to the evening. Even in the early hours of the morning, the area felt completely safe. Catching the night bus back to my accommodation was super easy, reliable, and smooth. Grab some snacks, pack a blanket, check the night bus routes, and get yourself here for golden hour—you won't regret it!
Between City★★★★★
This is one of my favourite spots in Madrid. Not only is the Temple of Debod an interesting piece of history, it is also one of the best places in the city to watch the sunset with the combination of open sky, city views and relaxed atmosphere. Whether you’re taking photos, going for a walk or simply sitting and watching the light change over Madrid, it’s a lovely place to spend an evening. It's definitely worth a visit, especially at sunset.
Juan Gonzalez★★★★★
A great little temple site for a short visit. The tickets get you inside the temple building, which is quite small. The upstairs was closed during our visit making this an even shorter visit. Be sure to walk through the whole site, as there are ancient carvings and even some modern graffiti around all the place. (I'm looking at you Laura and Karol. Whoever you are) Bottom line, it's worth the visit.

Plaza Mayor is one of the most iconic and beautiful places in Madrid. The architecture is stunning, the atmosphere is vibrant, and every corner reflects the city’s rich history and culture. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning, it’s a place that deserves to be on everyone’s itinerary. There are plenty of cafés and restaurants around the square, making it a perfect spot to relax, enjoy the surroundings, and experience the heart of Madrid. That said, there are a few aspects that could be improved. The square can become extremely crowded, especially during peak hours, which takes away from the peaceful experience. Prices at some cafés and restaurants are noticeably higher simply because of the location, and there are quite a few street vendors approaching tourists. More seating areas, better crowd management, and stricter control of unauthorized vendors would make the experience even more enjoyable. Overall, despite these minor drawbacks, Plaza Mayor remains a magnificent landmark that perfectly captures the spirit of Madrid. Its history, elegance, and lively atmosphere make it an unforgettable place to visit. I highly recommend taking the time to explore it, especially in the early morning or at sunset when its beauty is at its peak.

Plaza Mayor is a beautiful and impressive historic square in the heart of Madrid. The architecture is stunning, and the atmosphere is lively and welcoming. It’s a great place to walk around, take photos, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Definitely a must-visit when exploring Madrid!
Rahmah Ramli★★★★☆
Plaza Mayor is the old historic centre of Madrid and unlike the modern centre Puerta del Sol, it still retains its charm and appeal. The Plaza Mayor was originally designed in 1617 during the Hapsburg era and the square has played a central role in many both joyful and traumatic events that have shaped Spain. Unlike many other capital cities the central square of the Plaza Mayor is surrounded by private residence and not government offices or state rooms. Today the three levels of apartments are still in the possession of private residence, who possibly own the most exclusive address in Madrid. These private residences used to earn the owners of the rooms a hefty wage as the balconies which over look the square used to be rented out to the aristocrats during major public events.
Tyler Dylan★★★★☆
Busy touristy square with lots of ops for people watching and beautiful architecture. The square serves as a gathering place for music concerts and celebrations. There are a lot of restaurants and shops nearby and inside the square itself. We saw part of the celebration that centers around Madrid's patron saint, San Isidro Labrador, and is the city's grandest traditional celebration in mid-May. The square was full of people all and into the early am. Free entry.
marcos contreras★★★★★
Visiting Plaza Mayor was an unforgettable experience and one of the most iconic places in Madrid. The square is absolutely magnificent, surrounded by elegant red facades, beautiful arcades, and centuries of history. Walking into Plaza Mayor feels like stepping back in time while still enjoying the vibrant energy of modern Madrid. The atmosphere is lively and full of character, with street performers, cafés, and people from all over the world enjoying this historic setting. What impressed me most was the architectural harmony and the sense of grandeur that makes the square so visually striking. Overall, a must visit landmark in Madrid historic, vibrant, and truly spectacular. ¡Madre mía, qué plaza tan impresionante!

Amazing! It's more than a relaxing city park. It's a mini forest that leads you to the rose garden and Egyptian temple ro the Royal Palace. It is great for a city time out. During nice Spring days everyone is reading or sleeping on a blanket or taking a lunch break. This is Madrid!

A beautiful park to take a stroll. Very well maintained. There is a huge, free rose garden. You can also walk to the opposite end for amazing views of the city. There is also a nice spot in the middle near the street where you can sit and have drinks. Gorgeous greenery and flowers and plants. A jewel in the city and not very crowded.

Beautiful park in Madrid. Much less touristic than Retiro. Hidden gem
G Mac★★★★★
This is a beautiful park. It has several levels in parts. One lower level includes a rose garden, which is beautiful. Further along, you will find the Egyptian temple that was gifted to Spain after it assisted in removing the monuments from Abu Simbel. The Aswan dam was going to drown this monument and Spain assisted in its removal. A beautiful dog, friendly park and lovely to walk around. There is even a playground for the kids.

Exceptional retreat from the city and breathtaking views of the royal palace. There are fun hedge mazes, beautiful fountains and rose gardens. The property is exquisitely maintained. Easy to get to and plenty of places to grab a snack, meal or drink around afterwards. Highly recommend for tourists.

It's great for a walk but be warned that it is big and not all exits are functional all of the time. We spent quite some time in it and kids loved the experience of not having to follow a specific route.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Hidden Royal Retreat! If you’re looking for a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of Madrid’s city life, Campo del Moro is the perfect spot. These gardens are a great respite—very quiet, tranquil, and surprisingly overlooked by many tourists. Why It’s Special The park is massive and beautifully maintained, featuring a variety of different paths that lead to secret gardens and small frog ponds. It’s a place where you can truly immerse yourself in nature: Wildlife: There is an abundance of wildlife including birds, butterflies, and the famous peacocks with their huge, colorful plumes roaming freely. Atmosphere: It is so peaceful inside that all you can hear is the humming of bees and the singing of birds. Walking these paths, you really feel the history of the kings and queens of Spain who once strolled here. Photographer's Dream The views are spectacular. From the main entrance, you get an amazing perspective of the Royal Palace and the Almudena Cathedral. Because of the elevation and the lush "green carpet" of the lawn, the palace looks like it is floating in the background. It is easily one of the best spots in Madrid for photography. Go Unhurried: Give yourself time to wander. It’s a large space (over 20 hectares), and the best parts are found by taking the winding side paths away from the main avenues. Whether you want to see the "royal turkeys" (peacocks) up close or just need a quiet moment surrounded by nature, this is a must-visit gem in the heart of Madrid.
Cristina Mitroiu★★★★★
It's nice to walk through the park next to the palace after visiting it. There's a lot of greenery, and you can also find a terrace where you can sit and have a coffee.

We bought tickets on the official website a week before the trip, entered regularly and enjoyed seeing the palace. A magnificent indescribable building. We took self-guided tickets and went around in 1.5-2 hours! We would definitely come again as we didn't have much time to visit the garden we saw and walk around!
Nikki D★★★★★
Wonderful experience. Recommend the guided tour to get the history, can order tours direct through the website in Spanish and English. Recommend booking in advance. Not a lot of shade during the summer outside in front of the palace, bathrooms inside available at the gift shop. Cute selection of unique memorabilia at the gift shop. Thank you for the hospitality and immersive experience into the Spanish monarchy!
Epicurean Explorer★★★★★
An excellent visit. We went during the two-hour free entry period they offer at the end of the day. The wait wasn't very long. If you don't qualify for free entry, it's definitely worth buying tickets. The castle is impressive and one of the city's landmarks. Highly recommended!
Dan Woodruff★★★★★
A must see sight for such an ancient empire. The tour takes you through the opulent royal rooms. The palace is not lived in by the royal family so you get to see how they used to live. Bear in mind this building was rebuilt about 250 years ago, after a fire You probably need the audio tour, but to be honest it was a bit disappointing. We paid for the version where you use your mobile phone. This works ok but you really need to download it to your phone before the visit. We were not able to get mobile reception so had to use the online only method. This worked, but the app would reset every time we switched to take a photo. After a while this was tiresome, having to scroll back to where we were before. I'd suggest paying extra for the device they supply. The descriptions were useful, if a bit bland. It would have been better to use some historical stories to bring the rooms to life. I learned more about the Spanish monarchy by visiting the art museums.

Cool experience to see some history. Took me a little to understand the self guided audio from my phone but once I understood, it was easy. The airport was pretty cool. Spend about 1.5-2 hours walking around. So much to see and some great photos.

Visited Mirador del Templo de Debod and had an absolutely beautiful experience. The viewpoint offers some of the most impressive panoramic views in Madrid, making it a perfect place to relax, take photographs, and enjoy the city skyline. One of the highlights is the stunning view during sunset. The warm light over the city, combined with the silhouette of Templo de Debod and the surrounding landscape, creates a truly memorable atmosphere. It is one of those places where visitors naturally pause to appreciate the scenery and peaceful environment. I especially appreciated the open and spacious setting of the viewpoint. The area feels calm and accessible, with enough space to walk around comfortably and enjoy different angles of the city and surrounding park areas. The elevated position provides excellent visibility over Madrid, including distant landmarks and green spaces. The environment was clean, well maintained, and very pleasant for an evening stroll or a short stop while exploring the city. It is also a fantastic location for photography, particularly during golden hour and after sunset when the city lights begin to appear. Another positive aspect is how the viewpoint combines nature, history, and urban scenery in one place, creating a unique atmosphere that feels both lively and relaxing. Overall, a spectacular and highly recommended viewpoint in Madrid. Mirador del Templo de Debod is a must-visit for panoramic views, sunsets, and unforgettable city scenery.

An authentic ancient Egyptian temple sitting in the middle of Madrid? Templo de Debod is easily the coolest spot in the city. Why It Belongs on Your Madrid Itinerary: Unmatched Sunset Views: Watching the sun dip below the horizon over the valley turns the whole sky deep orange and red. It easily claims the title for best sunset view in town. Stick around until dark when the ancient stone gateways light up—it looks like something straight out of a movie set. The temple sits in Parque del Oeste, surrounded by sprawling lawns, towering trees, and palm-lined green paths perfect for a afternoon stroll or picnic. It is just a short, easy walk over to the nearby La Rosaleda rose garden, making it effortless to combine both into one relaxing walk. Grab a drink or some local snacks, head over about an hour before golden hour, and claim a spot on the grass to watch the evening unfold.

Great views; definitely worth the walk. Go at sunset and you get spectacular views of the city too. It is free but you need tickets if you want to go inside the temple (we did not); if you're doing that it is best to gwt them in advance.

Tips for Visiting Attractions Near Casa de Campo

Planning your route efficiently will save you time and energy, as some of these attractions are spread out across the western and central districts of Madrid. The area has its own rhythm, and knowing a few local logistics can significantly improve your experience. Here are some practical tips to help you navigate the surroundings like a pro.

  1. Use the Lago Metro Station as your hub: The Lago station on Line 10 is located right inside Casa de Campo. It is the most convenient gateway for transitioning from the park to attractions like Príncipe Pío and the Royal Palace.
  2. Book royal tickets in advance: If you plan to visit the Royal Palace or the Almudena Cathedral’s museum, purchase tickets online. The queues can be extremely long, especially on weekends and during Spanish public holidays.
  3. Wear comfortable walking shoes: While the metro connects the major sites, the distances between attractions like the Temple of Debod, Plaza de España, and the Royal Palace are best covered on foot over cobblestone streets.
  4. Visit the Temple of Debod at sunset: The Egyptian temple is free to enter, but the exterior view is the real highlight. Arrive an hour before sunset to watch the stones reflect in the surrounding pools.
  5. Explore Madrid Río on foot or by bike: The park directly borders the Manzanares River. Instead of taking the metro, walk along the Madrid Río park to reach the Matadero cultural center or the bridges for unique views of the Royal Palace.

The western edge of Madrid offers a refreshing blend of open green space and dense historical narrative that is often overlooked by first-time visitors. Starting your day with a walk through the wilder parts of Casa de Campo and ending it at a rooftop terrace near Plaza de España provides a perfect contrast of experiences.

By using the park as your anchor, you can escape the tourist crowds within minutes while still having immediate access to the best that Madrid has to offer. These nearby attractions prove that you do not have to travel far from the city center to find world-class culture, history, and views.
