Watching the sunrise over the Temple of Debod is one of Madrid’s most magical experiences, but it works up an appetite. This ancient Egyptian monument, gifted to Spain in 1968, sits in the lush Parque del Oeste near Plaza de España. The surrounding neighborhoods of Argüelles, Malasaña, and Moncloa form a vibrant culinary triangle.
While the temple itself offers no dining facilities, you are spoiled for choice within a short walking distance. The area has transformed into a brunch hotspot, blending traditional Spanish breakfast culture with international trends. From churros dipped in thick chocolate to avocado toast and specialty coffee, the variety is impressive.
Knowing where to eat before or after your visit can make your morning flow much smoother. Some of Madrid’s best-hidden courtyards and sun-drenched terraces are tucked away on side streets just minutes from the monument. Whether you want a quick bite or a leisurely weekend feast, this guide covers the essentials.
We have focused on quality, consistency, and atmosphere to bring you the top options. You will find places that prioritize fresh ingredients and welcoming service, not just tourist traps. This list reflects local favorites that have earned their reputation over time.
Every recommendation below is reachable on foot from the temple, with distances kept to a reasonable stroll. We have also considered dietary preferences, including vegetarian and vegan options, where available. The goal is to help you match the right spot to your mood and budget.
Madrid’s breakfast scene runs late, so do not expect many places to open before 9:00 AM. If you are an early riser, plan for a coffee and pastry first, then a proper brunch later. This rhythm is part of the local charm.
Use this guide to turn a simple visit to the Temple of Debod into a full morning experience. The right meal will give you the energy to explore the park, the Royal Palace, and the nearby Gran Vía afterward.

We went there as a couple only looking for some great cocktails (one of their strongest points) and sweets.
Ainoha who served us was very accommodating and willing to go above and beyond. 5 stars for her.
What we did not appreciate - hence my low rating:
- we had to wait at least 20 minutes. For good restaurants that’s understandable. However there were 4 seats available upstairs (two at the bar, two at a free table). 5 people waiting before us, none of them seated - nor us - at these free seats. When we finally got seated downstairs there were two other free tables with 4 more free seats.
- the cocktail guy (or girl 🤍) was free today. So they had no cocktails. Unacceptable for such a busy place in the middle of Madrid
- we had two of the menu’s stars: the pistachio pancakes and the cinnamon rolls. The pancakes were a disappointment for me - three pancakes, good looking, with a bit of pistachio frosting and icecream on top. But tasteless otherwise. I would not recommend. I appreciated the roll - very sweet for my husband yet ok for me.
- very difficult to drink coffee out of the very nice looking cups
I would definitely not recommend nor come again.

This breakfast spot was absolutely incredible!! We just needed a place that opened early before we left for the airport, and we were very happy for an 8am opening. My daughter had the burger (yes, for breakfast, and she wasn’t the only one!) and I had the French toast. I didn’t get to taste the burger because it was completely gone before I had a chance to ask for a bite. But the French toast, besides the beautiful display, came with a little scoop of ice cream that nicely replaced the need for syrup, plus fresh strawberries and blueberries and a caramelized banana. The details were so nicely done. Even my cappuccino was so beautifully crafted! I cannot recommend this place enough. Every food item that came out to other tables looks delicious and I’m sending my other daughter here when she studies in Madrid next semester!
Juan Campo★★★★☆
It’s a popular tourist spot, so it’s usually bustling with visitors, partly because of its reputation and the hype surrounding it. The atmosphere is lively, but it definitely feels quite touristy.
The food is decent overall, although the menu leans heavily toward desserts. One thing I didn’t particularly like is their practice of encouraging customers to leave a five-star review at the end of the meal. When it seems to be a standard part of the experience, it takes away some of the authenticity and usefulness of the reviews when deciding whether to visit. The approach to tipping also felt a bit excessive.
Overall, the food is decent, but considering the crowds and potential wait, I’m not sure the experience is worth the hype.

Brunch here ! Such a good spot. Amazing food, service, and I loved the vibes/ decor.
The salmon Benedict was super fresh, and the potato waffle with truffle mushroom is a must if you love mushrooms. The Pistachio Obsession café was creamy, aesthetic, and honestly so good.
Alejandro gave great service, friendly, attentive, and made the whole experience even better. Would definitely go back.
The Foodie Crusader★★★★★
This place had a bit of a wait, but i think it was worth it. Its very nice and cozy inside. The staff is nice and friendly. The food was excellent. The latte was delicious. The Spanish omelet was super yummy. It basically reminds me of potatoes au gratin wrapped with a thin sheet of egg. I got mine with pork belly and it was delicious and filling for me. We ordered the French toast by mistake but it worked out for us. It was absolutely delicious. The toast was soft, sweet, and flavorful, the ice cream and fresh berries made it all come together nicely. The prices are reasonable. I would definitely come back, and i would make this a must visit.

One of the best eggs Benedict I’ve had! Perfectly cooked poached eggs. The miso and sichuan oil were a great combination and can’t miss it. We also had the avocado toast with truffle sauce which was great as well. The açaí smoothie was fresh and refreshing too. We ended with an almond cake which was awesome, highly recommend this place!

Absolutely loved this place! The atmosphere was wonderful, warm and welcoming, and our waitress was absolutely lovely and made the whole experience even better. She was so friendly, attentive and kind.
I had the bacon sandwich and it was absolutely delicious — fresh, flavorful and perfectly prepared. I would definitely come back and highly recommend this place! ❤️

Thanks Jason for the brilliant service. The Cantonese style scrambled eggs were some of the best I’ve ever had and the ‘soft’ cortado as this cafe cutely calls it was perfection. Brazilian coffee beans brewed just right. Come a bit earlier in the day so you don’t need to wait in line. Interiors are also so charming.
Brianna Pedraza★★★★★
Busy restaurant and there can be a line, but don’t stress and don’t let that deter you from waiting. The wait doesn’t take long! The service here is fantastic, quick and genuine. Very good food and coffee as well. We were very happy with this place and would came back! Thanks to server Cami for helping us have a good experience here

Beautiful place with a truly magical atmosphere. I absolutely loved the interior design, the vibe, and the overall feeling of the space. It is one of those places where you instantly feel relaxed and want to stay longer. The staff and service were also excellent, very friendly and attentive.
We especially loved the matcha with coconut water. It was delicious and definitely something I would order again.
As for the food, it was just okay. We tried the scrambled eggs with avocado and the eggs Benedict. The brunch dishes were decent, but not particularly memorable. Still, I would definitely come back for the atmosphere and would love to try some of the pastries or cakes next time.

The food was absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere was really cool, warm, and pleasant. The whole experience was great from start to finish. A special thanks to Yuri, who was incredibly friendly, spoke excellent English, and made us feel comfortable throughout our visit.
We really enjoyed our meal and would definitely come back. Highly recommended!

I was looking for a brunch place in Madrid that had outdoor seating so I can take in the views of the city. This was such a cute brunch place, great vibes, and the food was delicious. My server Alexis was very helpful and attentive. He served me water and made sure I was comfortable while I waited for my outside table, and he had it ready for me as soon as they were done eating. Highly recommend this place 🙂

Searched online for the best pancake stack and this one came up on top with 4.9 stars. Quaint place with some cool and unusual art decor, creating a warm and comfy space. We only ordered 2 pancake stacks and a coffee, which were delicious. Our waitress was Romina, and she was friendly and accommodating despite our lack of spanish. Our food took very long to come out despite the place being quiet. The bright side to this is thay we did not feel rushed at all. Another cute thing they do, is to present the bill in an egg box. Loved that. A very memorable experience.
Winnie Li★★★★☆
It’s a really cute cafe, I like the Egg Benedict, especially the potato inside! You can enjoy a good time here. Only small improvement is that for the mushroom toast is a bit dry for me. Overall it’s highly recommended for relaxing here~
Thank you the staff, Alan, is really nice ✨ providing the good service.
We have a good time here.

I ve visited this brunch bar during July
Although it was cramped, it has a good ambience. It offers a good variety of home made food. I ve selected the menu of 19€ which included eggs posed with avocado, a juice (for me strawberry), a coffee and a small pastry (for me a tasteful lemonpie)
I recommend!!!

Beautiful brunch spot in Chamberi, Madrid! Food was very delicious and the atmosphere very green. We ordered the apple crumble pancakes and salmon eggs Benedict. Both were perfect. Friendly staff as well! I recommend this spot if you’re in the area and need some brunch.

We absolutely loved everything about this place! The food was fresh, delicious, and arrived quickly, which made the experience even better. The drinks paired perfectly with the meal and really complemented the flavors. On top of that, the service was a solid 10/10 friendly, attentive, and welcoming!
Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in Madrid!

Super quant restaurant. The presentation of the food is so beautiful. The food & drinks was outstanding. Amazing place for healthy, vegetarian, vegan & gluten free options. The vegan brunch & tortilla bonita were delicious, the richness in flavor was superb. The smoothies, juices, & coffee were lovely. All the food was so fresh. The gluten free desserts were some of the best I have ever had, the chocolate cake & the peanut butter/chocolate cake. The cakes were super moist & melted in your mouth. I would eat there all the time if we lived locally.

What a great brunch spot! Walking in during the very late morning on a Friday in September, I got a seat right away. The space is small, but they use the space well to fit a handful of small tables.
The server was very quick and friendly. He recommended the chilaquiles with beef and wow. It was excellent as was the pistachio latte. I’d definitely go back!

What a wonderful find in the heart of La Latina! Cocuiza is a charming, quaint brunch spot where it’s immediately clear that real time, care, and attention go into every dish. Everything we tried was meticulously prepared and beautifully presented, with interesting flavour combinations that were both creative and absolutely delicious.
The recommendations were excellent and made the whole experience even better. The owner was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and took the time to explain everything perfectly, which added such a personal touch to our visit.
A truly special little place with fantastic food, unique flavours, and genuine hospitality. Highly recommended — we will definitely be coming back!
Emmett Grames★★★★★
Surprisingly large portions, be ready to share if you order one of the pancake stacks. Really good food, fresh drinks, and service, the prices are a bit higher but for the quantity and quality it really is worth it. The staff were very friendly. We got there early on a Sunday, but if you plan to go mid-morning you might want to call ahead and reserve a table, they were very busy when we left, with a line out the door.
Olivia Seward★★★★★
Best breakfast place in Madrid. If you care about food…come here!! The pancakes were the best I’ve ever had in my life- perfect flavor and perfect texture. The hash browns were also great too. I will be coming back to try more on the menu. Also mentioning there’s self serve water which is great!! So happy we found this spot.

I got the watermelon juice & sweet salty chicken. This is way better than any chicken & waffles I’ve had in the USA. Amazing. Great sauce& flavor. I like the coleslaw on it too. It was very busy so I would recommend making a reservation.

We just had brunch here and since I saw it on TikTok and saw the number of reviews, I was a bit afraid that it would be an overrated place based on the hype of their very realistic vegan egg benedicts... It is worth every review and the hype! This is such a nice place, waiters are friendly and helpful, food is flavorful and there are many options. Service is fast and efficient, and the place itself is nice and spacious (didn't feel crazy hot on a 39°C day). Finally, the price is very reasonable for the quality of the food and service. I strongly recommend and would come back anytime.
Ciara O'Hara★★★★★
I had the best vegan food of my life here! The food I miss most as a vegan is poached eggs and I got to have eggs benedict with plant-based eggs that looked and tasted exactly like the real thing! My beetroot latte was also amazing and so were the oat latte and delicious passionfruit cheesecake I had for dessert. My husband had vegan caesar salad and loved it and he normally does not enjoy fake meat or cheese (he is not vegan but loved the food here too). I want to come back to Madrid and stay for a week next time so I can try everything on the menu! It's a dream destination for any vegan but even non vegans will enjoy. The staff are lovely and friendly and helpful too.
Natalia Kaźmierczak★★★★★
Absolutely extraordinary! I've ordered eggs Benedict with pulled pork and it was just amazing experience. I would never guess that those are vegan eggs! The texture, color, taste - just incredible! Whole dish, from a bit sweet brioche, BBQ pulled pork, liquid egg yolk and crunchy bacon bites, well balanced and tasty. If I ever will be back in Madrid, this will be the first place to visit.
Small tip, I came 30 min after opening and it was already crowded. I would recommend to book a table in advance.

I had seen this place before leaving Italy and it was worth the trip, it did not disappoint. The eggs are mind blowing, the bacon was crunchy and full of flavor. The bread melts in your mouth and one bite sends you straight to heaven. The red velvet is to die for, creamy and delicious, not overly sweet as you might think. I can’t recommend it enough!!
Christina Hristakieva★★★★★
The best vegan food I have ever had and I will be thinking about it until my death bed. We went three times during our visit to Madrid! We also appreciated the summary they give out after your meal about how much water and resources you saved by eating the vegan versions of these gorgeous meals. Coffee was delicious as well and there is a wide variety of other drinks. The flu shots were lethal 😄 (but we loved them)

A coffee shop catering to tourists with dietary restrictions and a desire for familiar food. Despite its appealing appearance and seating, the service is slow, especially during non-peak hours. The pricing is tourist-oriented, and sugar must be fetched separately, it’s not brought to you. The cortado and orange juice (from blender)are good, but the food options are limited to European and American tastes, including a sandwich with German bread. The atmosphere is pleasant, but the lack of authentic Spanish cuisine and the high percentage of tourists make it an unsuitable place for me.
sam camp★★★★★
Superb, they make one of the best coffees in Spain. Their food is fresh, tasty and we'll made. The service is some of the nicest we have experienced in Spain.
It is always a pleasure to eat somewhere where customer service is simply about being nice and friendly and providing coffee and food that the staff is proud of.
They are Air-conditioned, the space may look small but they do have much more room downstairs and their service is fast and efficient.

Perfect gluten free brunch spot! The pancakes tasted homemade, rich, and comforting without being too sweet. Every bite with the fresh fruit and mascarpone cream was amazing. You can tell a lot of care goes into both the flavor and presentation🪄✨

Got the pancakes and toast with eggs. Good scrambled egg but the pancakes were just ok. Mascarpone didn’t add much but was a decent serving for the price. Service was lovely and attentive. Prices are super fair one of the cheaper breakfasts in Madrid. Would come back to try more of their menu!

While visiting Madrid from the UK we visited here everyday for our breakfast! It was only a two minute walk from our hotel and gave both myself and my partner a sense of homeliness and familiarity. With me being a sweet tooth and my partner being more of a hearty meal kind of person, this place fit our taste perfectly. The service was incredible and the ladies who work on the front serving couldn’t be nicer! I would recommend to anyone visiting Madrid to give this restaurant at least one visit, even for one of their amazing coffees. There is always a line out the door so make sure to book!

We visited EatMyTrip Brunch & Dinner Gran Via in Madrid and really enjoyed it. I had the Rainbow Breakfast and my fiancée had the Tokio Toast, and both dishes were very tasty.
The portion sizes were just right – enough to feel satisfied, but not so heavy that you feel too full afterwards. Everything looked nicely prepared and tasted fresh. The smoothie and coffee were also very good.
We came without a reservation and waited around 10 minutes, which was totally fine. However, the place was very busy and quite crowded, so I would definitely recommend making a reservation in advance.
Overall, a great brunch spot in Madrid with tasty food, good drinks, and a nice concept. Definitely worth a visit.

We had such a lovely experience here, the atmosphere is super cozy, perfect for a relaxed brunch. The food was delicious. The Burrata del Huert was absolutely amazing, fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. You can really tell the ingredients are high quality.
The espresso was just right too, rich and smooth.
What made the experience even more special was Irina, who took care of us. She was incredibly kind, attentive, and had such a positive vibe that truly made a difference. She made us feel welcome and well taken care of.
paolo praolini★★★★☆
We had breakfast here, the display case with pastries was inviting! The two of us sat down for two very good cappuccinos, a slice of Nutella cheesecake, and a cinnamon roll! Delicious, but far from the traditional Italian desserts I love! I then had a freshly squeezed orange juice! A great place!
chanelle mwale★★★★★
Wow, where do I start.
I got the fresh forest fruit lemonade which was tart, sweet and refreshing as well as the vanilla latte which was delightful.
I went for the Iberico Hollandaise dish and it was beautifully presented, filling, the ham had a wonderful smokey flavour, the eggs were perfectly poached and the rustic potatoes were well cooked, and had great flavour.
My dad and sister got the pancakes, I havent seen a stack of oancakes so fluffy! I tried them and they were so delicious, great cakey texture and incredibly filling.
We then went for a side of the banana bread which was packed with flavour, you could taste the nutmeg, all spice, cinnamon and it was warm! So so divine.
My only complaint is that we were waiting outside for over half an hour, in future it would be great if a member of staff could come outside when there is a queue to manage expectations for the wait time, it was well worth the wait and the service once we were inside was excellent. This is hust something that wouldve made the experience from waiting to eating even better!
Thank you, I would come back to Madrid just for this delicious brunch!

Zenith serves one of the finest brunches I’ve had in Madrid. You can immediately tell they use high-quality, fresh ingredients—everything tastes homemade and carefully prepared rather than mass-produced. The bread was perfectly fresh, the eggs were cooked flawlessly, the fruit was ripe and flavorful, and every ingredient felt thoughtfully selected.
The presentation is beautiful, but more importantly, every dish is balanced, fresh, and genuinely delicious. Pair that with excellent cocktails, friendly service, and a relaxed atmosphere, and it’s an easy 5-star experience. If you appreciate brunch made with premium ingredients and real attention to detail, Zenith is a place you shouldn’t miss.
Josh Armstrong★★★☆☆
Compared to other brunch places, the food could’ve been better. The atmosphere was great, and the coffee was decent, but a little weak. I had the shashuka that was more stewed, tomatoes, and peppers than protein and yogurt. It would’ve been better with more eggs and yogurt. My Wife had the eggs Benedict, that were a bit undercooked, meaning the egg whites were still runny on the inside, and the hollandaise sauce was only OK.
Joseph Dillon-Redmile★★★★★
The food, service and atmosphere is amazing. Madrid is really busy and going to somewhere chill like this, is a life saver. The people made me feel really welcomed and I can’t thank them enough for that.
They were also very patient with me, when trying to practice my Spanish and I really appreciate that as well. The place has a real human touch, which you don’t often get these days, especially in places like Madrid.
As for the other reviews… Yes the place is busy, so be patient! Also for the price you pay, the food is 5 stars. You can’t complain about the quality of the food for the price you get.
Thank you to everyone at this lovely restaurant!

Hello everyone,

Punto Kafe is delicious! Amazing energy and vibes for a breakfast spot. They offer an extensive, healthy menu full of fantastic options. We got the Iberian ham, eggs, toast and jam; we were blown away. The blueberry pancakes were so delightful as well. Lastly, the yummy coffees were exactly what we needed on an early morning. The staff are very friendly and the restaurant itself is quaint and clean. Highly recommend!

This tiny coffee shop is so lovely, super friendly barista who makes the most excellent coffee and chatted about the origin of the beans and ingredients of the cakes. I came 3 times in 3 days and had an excellent toast with egg and mortadella one day then tried the homemade apple, cinnamon cake. Very happy and zen place to be before a day of walking in Madrid!

I wanted to love this place. It had beautiful decor. The service was brilliant. The cappuccino was well done. However, the food was not good. I had the brick of brie and mushrooms beet mix that had an unfortunate aftertaste when mixed with the pickled onion juice. The hummus was bland but okay. The dish was disappointing in first sight and in taste. I am sad to say that it was not good at all and it was not cheap.

Tips for Choosing Your Breakfast Spot
The area around the Temple of Debod can be busy, especially on weekends and public holidays. A little planning goes a long way in ensuring you get a table without a long wait. These practical tips will help you navigate the local breakfast culture like a pro and avoid common pitfalls.
Check opening hours carefully. Many Madrid cafés do not open until 9:00 AM or later, and some kitchens close between breakfast and lunch. If you want to eat before 9:00 AM, look for traditional cafeterías or bakeries rather than brunch restaurants. Always verify the current hours on Google Maps or the restaurant’s social media before walking over.
Make a reservation for weekend brunch. The most popular brunch spots fill up quickly between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM. If you have your heart set on a specific place, call ahead or book through their website. For walk-ins, aim to arrive right at opening time to secure a table without stress.
Understand the difference between a Spanish breakfast and an international brunch. A traditional Spanish breakfast is often simple: toast with tomato and olive oil, a pastry, or churros with coffee. International brunch menus feature eggs Benedict, pancakes, and smoothie bowls. Decide which experience you want before choosing a place.
Look for weekday deals. Many restaurants offer special “menú del día” or discounted brunch packages on weekdays. You can often enjoy the same quality of food at a lower price and with fewer crowds. Tuesday through Thursday is the sweet spot for a relaxed meal near the temple.
Wear comfortable shoes. Even if you are only walking from the temple to a nearby café, the streets around Parque del Oeste have some slopes and cobblestones. You will enjoy your post-meal walk much more in practical footwear. The area is best explored on foot, so plan accordingly.
Carry a little cash. While most modern cafés accept cards, smaller traditional bakeries and churrerías may have a minimum spend or prefer cash. Having €10 to €20 in euros ensures you can grab a quick coffee and pastry anywhere without worry.
The neighborhoods surrounding the Temple of Debod reward those who wander with an open mind. While this list gives you a strong starting point, do not be afraid to peek down a side street and discover your own favorite corner café. Madrid’s food culture thrives on spontaneity and warmth.
A good breakfast here is not just about the food. It is about the ritual of slowing down, watching the city wake up, and savoring the moment before your day begins. Pair your meal with a walk back through the park for a perfect Madrid morning.
