15 Best Pharmacies in Nice

Finding a trustworthy pharmacy in Nice is about more than just filling a prescription. Whether you are a local resident managing a chronic condition or a traveler who has run out of essential medication, the quality of advice and the availability of stock can significantly impact your health.

The French pharmacy system is highly regulated, ensuring that you generally receive excellent care, but the level of English spoken, the range of specialized dermatological products, and the opening hours can vary drastically from one location to the next.

Nice, as the capital of the French Riviera, offers a dense network of pharmacies that cater to a diverse population of locals, expats, and international tourists. In the city center, you will find historic establishments with ornate facades that have served the community for over a century, sitting alongside modern health hubs that focus on holistic wellness and preventative care.

Knowing which pharmacy to visit depends on your specific needs, whether that is emergency contraception, pediatric advice, or high-end French skincare. For visitors, navigating the French healthcare system can be daunting, but pharmacies often serve as the first point of contact for minor ailments.

French pharmacists are highly trained medical professionals who can diagnose minor conditions, recommend over-the-counter medications, and advise whether you need to see a doctor. In Nice, due to the high volume of tourism, many pharmacists near the Promenade des Anglais and the Old Town (Vieux Nice) are fluent in English and accustomed to dealing with international health insurance and traveler’s diarrhea or sunburn cases.

This guide focuses on the practical aspects of choosing a pharmacy in Nice. We have evaluated locations based on their accessibility, the breadth of their product selection, the professionalism of their staff, and their ability to serve non-French speakers. We also consider the importance of “garde” services—the system where specific pharmacies remain open late at night or on Sundays on a rotating basis to ensure the city never lacks access to medicine.

When you are in a bustling tourist hub, prices for parapharmacy items like sunscreen, vitamins, and luxury cosmetics can sometimes be marked up, though prescription drug prices are strictly regulated by the French government. Therefore, knowing where the locals go is the key to getting the best value. The list below highlights establishments known for their ethical practices, comprehensive stock, and willingness to go the extra mile for their patients.

Whether you are looking for a 24-hour emergency refill, a specific homeopathic remedy, or a pharmacist who can speak your language fluently, Nice has a solution for you. The following selection represents the best options in the city based on reputation, location, and service quality.

Everything was incredible!! They are super friendly and speak Spanish, which was a relief for us Mexicans. There were quite a few discounts. We were delighted with everything.

I came at 3am and no one came to the door no matter how many times I rang the bell. I wouldn’t have travelled all the way over needing medicine if it wasn’t open. Terrible!!

In a nutshell: Count your money carefully if 1) speak no French 2) pay in cash First of all, I'm grateful that this store existed because all the other pharmacies close at 7pm. This is the only one in the area open 24/7 6 days a week (I think, hence the long line when it opened at 8pm on Sunday night). However, the customer service is atrocious. Everything was fine the first time I went, but when I went again the next day at around the same time to buy the exact same thing, I was charged extra. When I questioned the extra charges and showed the clerk my receipt from the previous day, there was A LOT of eye-rolling and scoffing from the female clerk who was checking us out (we were tourist who didn't speak any French, and the clerk only knew some English). She eventually explained that there was this thing called "night tax," which we then accepted, but then didn't give us the correct change. Our total was 42.90 and we paid 50 euros, but she only gave us 1.10 euros in return. When we went back for the rest of our money, she scoffed at us again and gave us back 5 euros, which was still wrong. Regarding the "night tax" - we still don't know what it is. None of the hotel staff we asked had ever heard of it, either, but reassured us that if it was printed on the receipt, then it should be legitimate, though it may or may not have anything to do with the time. They said they would check for us during the day but we were leaving in a couple of hours. Hopefully they found out and would let other foreign tourists know about this so they wouldn't go through the same thing we did.

As English speaking tourists, we had a really good experience with this pharmacy. Staff were very helpful, hard-working and polite in dealing with our issue. Super helpful for us as tourists to have this 24 hour service and we are very thankful to staff for assisting us.

The night service (20h-8h) is awful. We were in the cue for one hour and the pharmacist just cover two people. The service is so slow and there’s only one person working inside while outside almost 30 people waiting.

The pharmacy was closed at around 3:00 AM, although Google Maps indicates that it is open at night. I also tried calling, but no one picked up. Please update your hours of operation — it’s especially important at night when someone may urgently need medication.

I was visiting Nice from the US. My friend and I stopped in the pharmacy to look at The French beauty care items, sunscreens and more. I was so impressed with the selection! There was a very helpful, kind woman working there- she was so friendly and helped me find the products I was looking for, and also offered great suggestions! I was like a kid in the candy store there! Will definitely visit next time I am in Nice!
Rimma★☆☆☆☆
Unprofessional and disrespectful. The woman from the beauty stand should not have this job if she doesn‘t know how to treat clients. Never visiting again.
Puneet DWIVEDI★☆☆☆☆
I recently visited Pharmacie Anglo Américaine Nice to purchase medication for my wife, and unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. I went there with a valid doctor’s prescription. The doctor had also added some additional medication by hand, which is quite common in France. However, when I presented it, the pharmacist refused to provide the handwritten items, saying they could only dispense medication listed in the printed section of the prescription. I was quite surprised by the abrupt and dismissive manner in which this was communicated. Even if that was the policy, a polite explanation would have been appreciated. Secondly, as we had recently lost our Carte Vitale, I presented a valid Attestation de Droits downloaded from the Ameli website. The document clearly states that it is valid for one year, and ours was downloaded only two months ago. Despite this, the person at the reception insisted it was invalid and demanded a newer one, otherwise we would have to pay the full amount and later submit the receipt to CPAM by post. I tried to explain, but the response was again very rude and unhelpful. This kind of behavior is unacceptable, especially in a pharmacy where professionalism, empathy, and clear communication are essential. The staff made us feel as if they were doing us a favor rather than performing their duty. If working weekends is an issue, perhaps they should reconsider their opening hours instead of taking it out on customers. Overall, this was one of the most unpleasant interactions I have had in any pharmacy in France. The lack of courtesy, professionalism, and understanding was shocking. I hope the management takes appropriate action to ensure that staff are properly trained to treat customers with respect and to provide accurate information particularly to those who may still be learning how the French healthcare system works. Not at all recommended!! Would only advise in case there is no other option available.

I had the best experience there. I was assisted by Haicha and she was eager to listen and recommend a full daily routine to address some skin concerns I had. She walked me through each of the products, assessed the products I already had in my cart to ensure that they would be useful, and explained the purpose of everything she recommended. I walked out with more products than I intended to buy but with products that were far better suited to me. Thanks Haicha!

Lovely staff who mostly all spoke English and patiently recommended me some of their favourite and best French skincare. Respectful of space when you need it to browse products on your own, but very eager and willing to help. The pharmacy was also very helpful and those that could not speak English were still eager to help through translation apps. They even offered tourist me wifi because I couldn’t connect to my data. Walked away with a bit too many shopping bags full of French skincare! 🤣

I have been a loyal customer to this pharmacy for 3 years after moving to this area of Nice. I spend alot of money in the pharmacy each month.Ive always said they were a good pharmacy and staff nice and helpful. However today,i was with my 2.5year old and she needed the toilet,i asked a staff member black haired who said no she couldnt use.I was very shocked that they would refuse a 2 year old a basic dignity of use of a toilet. After I went to the boloungerie across the way who were very happy to help so she could use the toilet i then went back to the pharmacy. I was assisted by a lovely lady and spent over 100 euros which i do weekly or more. I mentioned that my daughter had been refused the toilet and I was upset about it.She apologised. This has left a bitter taste in my mouth and honestly feel that people who dont have compassion for a child to use the toilet why should i continue to use them.

Hello, I recently underwent surgery and asked for sterile wound dressings to cover my stitches. The products I was given were of very poor quality — they would not stick to my skin at all, as if the adhesive was dried out or defective, making them completely unusable. In addition, the behavior of the staff was highly unprofessional and disappointing. Instead of showing professionalism and understanding towards someone in recovery, they were ironic and disrespectful, even laughing, which is completely inappropriate for a pharmacy setting. I find both the quality of the products and the service I received unacceptable, especially in a place related to health. I would appreciate it if this matter could be looked into.
Ann Nashee★☆☆☆☆
This is a terrible pharmacy with racist assistants. I came with a valid prescription from my doctor, but they refused to dispense the necessary medicine. Their justification was that the assistant didn't recognize the doctor's name, and because I am a foreigner, I did not have a Carte Vitale. If you want to encounter truly incompetent assistants, you will find them at this pharmacy.

I have been meaning to write this review for a year, so here it is. I went in to buy some mouthwash, where a sales person treated us poorly because we miss understood their sale sign. Whatever. Then I tried to pay with a 10 euro bill, but the lady pushed it back at me, saying it was counterfeit. It did look different from most other bills, but I got it at another nearby vendor. I did not know, so I paid with another bill, but I was irritated by how rude the lady was. Regardless, weeks later when I returned home from vacation, I researched the bill and discovered that the bill was just from the previous generation of bills and was still legal tender. How this woman who handles money did not know this, and why she was so outrageously rude, is hard to understand. I strongly recommend avoiding this pharmacie. There are countless others to choose from.

A very disappointing experience at this pharmacy. The pharmacist or pharmacy technician (a short woman with a blonde bob) was particularly unpleasant and disrespectful, making remarks and asking questions that I found completely inappropriate. Her tone was condescending and unprofessional, which is all the more regrettable in a healthcare setting. I ended up going to another pharmacy where everything was handled simply, respectfully, and in accordance with what one expects from a healthcare professional. I would absolutely not recommend this pharmacy to my patients.

Even though they had 30mins more of opening hours left, they shut down the shutters. When I urgently asked for anti-histamine through the shutters the staff just said they were closed. I am British citizen living in Nice, classed a "non-resident". In December 2021 I registered with an online provider MeSoigner.fr to be routed to a local pharmacy to receive my booster vaccine. Unfortunately I was routed to Pharmacie Nice Gare du Sud. On 17.12 I arrived for my appointment. They asked for copies of my previous vaccine certificates, which I submitted. They confirmed my email address, name and date of birth. As I do not have a french social security number, I pay a small fee for the booster. And I was given the booster. I was informed that I would receive the certificate by email within 48 hours. After many phone calls, emails, showing up in person, contacting MeSoigner.fr for help, I finally received my certificate on 12.1.2022. They do not pick up the phone. They do not respond to emails. When I showed up in person, they have two students running the show who would inform me the pharmacist is currently out of the house and will return at 14h; 16h or tomorrow. I never got to see the pharmacist... Taking payment and giving a booster but not providing the certificate is simply unethical.

Tips for Using Pharmacies in Nice

Navigating a pharmacy in a foreign country can feel intimidating, but with a little local knowledge, you can ensure you get exactly what you need efficiently and safely. French pharmacies are highly regulated, but they operate differently than drugstores in the US or UK. Understanding the signage, the payment systems, and the pharmacist’s role will save you time and ensure you receive the correct care.

1). Look for the Green Cross and the “Garde” Schedule

While all pharmacies display a green cross, if you need medication late at night or on a Sunday, you cannot just go to any location. French law requires pharmacies to close on Sundays and at night, but a rotating system ensures coverage.

Look for a sign posted on the door of any closed pharmacy; it will list the address of the nearest “Pharmacie de Garde” (on-duty pharmacy). You can also check the local police station or the city’s official website for the nightly schedule.

2). Bring Your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or Travel Insurance

If you are an EU citizen, always present your EHIC card to the pharmacist. This ensures your prescription is processed at the standard French rate, which is often heavily subsidized by the state.

For non-EU travelers, keep your travel insurance details handy. While you usually have to pay upfront for medication, a detailed receipt (facture) provided by the pharmacist is almost always sufficient for reimbursement claims once you return home.

3). Don’t Underestimate the Pharmacist’s Diagnostic Role

In France, you do not always need to see a doctor for minor issues like a urinary tract infection, mild conjunctivitis, or a sore throat. Pharmacists are empowered to conduct quick consultations and dispense certain medications that would require a prescription in other countries.

Describe your symptoms clearly, and be honest about any pre-existing conditions or allergies. They are legally obligated to protect your privacy and will often guide you to a private consultation area if requested.

4). Know the Vocabulary for Common Ailments

While many pharmacists in Nice speak English, especially in the center, knowing a few French terms can speed up the process. “Ordonnance” means prescription, “douleur” means pain, and “sans ordonnance” means over-the-counter.

If you have a specific brand name from your home country, show the pharmacist the box or the active ingredient; generic equivalents are often much cheaper in France and just as effective.

5). Separate the Pharmacy from the Parapharmacy

Most pharmacies in Nice have a large retail section selling soaps, makeup, and supplements. These “parapharmacy” items are not regulated like medicine and are usually not reimbursable by insurance.

If you are looking for luxury French skincare brands like Avène, La Roche-Posay, or Bioderma, compare prices between pharmacies, as the markup on these non-prescription items can vary significantly. Pharmacies slightly outside the main tourist squares often offer better prices on these goods.

Choosing the right pharmacy in Nice ensures that your health needs are met with professionalism and care. By utilizing the expertise of the local pharmacists and understanding the local regulations, you can handle any minor medical hiccup during your stay or residency with confidence and ease.
