Finding a reliable pharmacy is about more than just picking up a prescription; it is about accessing trusted health advice, locating specific over-the-counter treatments, or finding essential baby care products while navigating the historic streets of a city. For both residents and the thousands of tourists who wander the ancient Roman aqueduct and cobblestone alleys of Segovia, knowing where the nearest "Farmacia" is located can save valuable time and reduce stress during a health concern.
The Spanish pharmacy system is highly regulated and trusted, often serving as the first point of contact for minor medical issues that might require a doctor’s visit in other countries. Pharmacists in Spain are highly trained medical professionals who can diagnose minor ailments, recommend appropriate medication, and advise on whether a hospital visit is necessary. This makes the network of pharmacies in Segovia’s city centre an invaluable resource for international visitors who may be unfamiliar with the local healthcare infrastructure.
Navigating the city centre of Segovia involves a mix of pedestrian-only plazas, steep hills, and historic landmarks. While the city is walkable, the physical effort required to move between the Aqueduct, the Plaza Mayor, and the Cathedral means that having a clear idea of pharmacy locations prevents unnecessary detours. Furthermore, opening hours in Spain often differ from Northern European or American standards, with many establishments closing for a midday break, making planning essential.
In this guide, we have compiled a list of ten reputable pharmacies located within the heart of Segovia. These establishments are selected based on their central locations, accessibility, and reputation for professional service. Whether you are staying near the bustling Plaza Mayor or the quieter residential streets surrounding the city walls, this list provides a solid starting point for your healthcare needs.
It is important to remember that Spanish pharmacies operate on a rotating schedule for after-hours service. If you require medication late at night, on a Sunday, or during a public holiday, you will need to locate the "Farmacia de Guardia" (duty pharmacy). Every pharmacy displays a sign on their door or window listing the current on-duty locations, ensuring that emergency access to medication is always available within the municipality.
Understanding the layout of Segovia’s centre is key to using this list effectively. The city is divided by the Clamores River valley, with the Aqueduct marking the lower entrance and the Alcázar sitting at the tip of the rocky outcrop. The pharmacies listed below are spread across this axis, ensuring that whether you are shopping on Calle Juan Bravo or sightseeing near the Jewish Quarter, professional help is never too far away.
Below is a curated list of central pharmacies to help you locate professional healthcare services quickly and efficiently.

A very unpleasant experience. I went in asking for a specific shampoo and, without even listening to me or checking, they told me they didn't have it. Shortly after, my partner came in, asked for the exact same thing, and they did sell it to him. The way they treated me was rude and unprofessional. Furthermore, my partner overheard them speaking negatively about another customer in front of him. The customer service was appalling.
Andrea★☆☆☆☆
Your response reveals your arrogance, justifying it by saying I'm a former employee. I'm just a customer, a resident of Segovia. If you don't like being told what to do, don't go into business, because that's what you call a BUSINESS. In Segovia, I've never seen a pharmacy that looks like a storage room. I've always gone there out of necessity, and even your employees have complained to me about the working conditions. That's on your conscience. That's why you always respond with the same thing (a former employee). What's more, you expect the same treatment when you go to other businesses... You're known among the neighbors. Show some humility, man!
I can confirm that this pharmacy is getting worse every day. You go there out of necessity and wait in lines of more than 30 minutes, all because there aren't enough staff. Many people come to this pharmacy because of its central location, and sometimes I've found only one assistant working. They not only treat customers badly but also their own staff. It's no wonder they serve customers angrily.
Christopher Duran González★☆☆☆☆
It seems the girl who served me wasn't having a very good day, and she wanted to spread it to everyone else. Very poor service.
I'm editing my review because I hadn't read the reviews for this pharmacy, but I also confirm the poor customer service. The girl who served me had a really nasty look on her face... and she rudely demanded the health insurance card of every person who came in. I just took it and left without even buying what I needed. Very, very unprofessional.

The service at this pharmacy is simply the best, they have the best prices, and it's always open. Thanks to the entire team, who are simply fantastic.

Super friendly and professional staff; high-quality products at competitive prices; welcoming and clean atmosphere. They also have a section of natural and homeopathic products. In short, an exceptional pharmacy for health and wellness enthusiasts.

Exorbitant prices compared to any other pharmacy. Plasters of the same size and brand are 40 percent more expensive. This is unacceptable.

I'm from out of town and I came across this pharmacy that caught my eye because it had retained its old-world charm. I went in and was delighted with everything: the service, their own-brand products, and the friendliness of the staff. 😍

I'm from Madrid, I went to Segovia for a weekend and stumbled upon the only French pharmacy open… Carmen gave me wonderful service, the pharmacy is beautiful inside, with a lot of history, and the window display is gorgeous!
When I return to Segovia, I'll definitely be back 😊

A trustworthy pharmacy with professional staff. They are incredibly friendly and approachable, always making things easier and resolving any issues. Without a doubt, the best pharmacy in Segovia overall. But what truly stands out is the wonderful people they are. You can't have that kind of trust when asking questions about medication or side effects. Thank you.

This morning I went to buy several medications, and since I wasn't wearing a mask, they lent me one. I was shocked when I looked at the receipt and saw they charged me €0.40 for a surgical mask they'd given me to let me in—and it was already open! They didn't even warn me they were going to charge me for it. I won't be shopping at this pharmacy again.
Nuria M Tena★☆☆☆☆
A very bad experience. The staff was unfriendly and I received unprofessional and careless treatment. I went to get my ear pierced and it became infected in less than two hours because they didn't maintain proper hygiene and even did two piercings in the same area.

We forgot some thing we needed for one of our children on our trip to Spain. We went in to ask for help with it. They had no way to charge for the dropper we needed, and the pharmacist gave it to us at no charge. This does a lot to tell you the kind of people working here and how helpful they are. We even tried to insist on paying and they would not let us.
In addition, the shop was clean and well stocked

Bought some cosmetics at this ‘tax-free’ shop, only to find out at the airport that their tax-free system is not compatible with the DIVA system at the Customs. Fake tax-free! Prices not competitive either. Go to Primor to save trouble for sure if you need cosmetics.

New pharmacy.
Everything is clean and well-organized, the staff is polite, and the prices are fair—you can find them cheaper at other pharmacies, and they're also more expensive.
Parking is excellent. It has both street entrances and entrances through the shopping center.

Today, Thursday at 6:15 PM, I went to pick up my prescription medication and was served by a rather unpleasant woman. I definitely wouldn't go back; I would look for alternative pharmacies.
Ana G.A.★★★★★
This pharmacy, with its two professionals, Marta and Silvia, deserves a perfect 10. You can ask Marta anything about medications, and she'll help you resolve any doubts as well as, or even better than, a doctor. She provides quick and effective solutions.
I'm delighted with them. Both are excellent at their jobs, professional, and friendly. In fact, I think the pharmacy just isn't the same without them. The owners of this pharmacy should definitely consider these two employees in many ways! I'll reserve my opinion on the rest of the staff.
Susana★☆☆☆☆
Except for the owner and Marta, who are wonderful, the other two girls there must think you go to the pharmacy for fun. They're rude, unpleasant, and treat you terribly!
You need to be nicer to customers/patients, girls, because one day you could be the ones on the other side.
Elena Limas★☆☆☆☆
Today, July 7, 2023, in the afternoon, I went to this pharmacy because it's closer to my work, and a very rude and disrespectful brunette woman served me. She told me to tidy the shelves and even had the nerve to ask why I had to move things and why I had to leave them this way or that way. She was in a hurry, but rest assured, you'll be filing a complaint.
Owners, it would be better if you hired trained and qualified staff. This has never happened to me before.
Juan Vilchez★★★★★
Very attentive and knowledgeable staff; I highly recommend them, especially to the thousands of tourists, both Spanish and foreign, who visit us.
They're also open at lunchtime.

I went there the other day to pick up some medication because it was on my way, and the staff were really helpful. I have a foot injury from surgery, and they advised me on the type of shoes that would be best and wouldn't bother me. Their advice was a great help.
Pedro de los Palotes Arzuaga★☆☆☆☆
I've gone two days in a row and had to wait five minutes while the pharmacist chatted with customers about trivial matters. Today I left without buying anything.
Dídac Ruiz Guzmán★★★★★
Very attentive and friendly with three points of attention.
Mario Campo Seco★☆☆☆☆
I bought some medication, and the employee was very friendly, as always.
I paid by card, and she asked me (as usual) if I wanted a receipt. I said no, but asked for a sales slip. When I went to print it, she looked surprised and spent a while typing on the computer before it printed. Finally, she excused herself by saying she had to recalculate because she had overcharged me.
She immediately gave me €1.98 in cash, the amount she had overcharged me.
My question is: Is this standard practice? Because they never offer you a receipt or invoice for the products; they only ask if you want a copy of the card reader.
DeSi oQue★★★★★
Every time we've gone, they've treated us wonderfully, and that's why, in addition to us, our families now go there too.

Daniel LopVe★☆☆☆☆
I have no complaints about the service; it was polite and they answered all my questions. I'm personally committed to shopping at local businesses, even if it means paying a little more. But the prices at pharmacies are outrageous. The price of the anti-inflammatory spray and that adhesive tape is almost double the market average.
To make matters worse, I usually use Omniplast adhesive tape as a preventative bandage that typically lasts for 5 hours of running. The rubbish they sold me for twice the price lasted 20 minutes and fell apart like paper (the manufacturer's fault, of course). The one-euro tape from the discount store is much better.
Either the product supplier is making a fortune, or the pharmacy has gone completely overboard with the pricing. But for the customer, this is unsustainable.

Excelente servicio. Siempre hago mis pedidos por WhatsApp y me atienden muy rápido. El proceso es súper fácil y el envío a domicilio llega en muy poco tiempo.

Simply brief and concise. I wish there were more people like Almudena and Roberto (and Roberto, please forgive me), but especially like Almudena.
On a day like yesterday, April 28, 2025, she was able to do the difficult, and I dare say the impossible—or so others claimed, those who were unable or unwilling to solve my problem at that moment.
Because of my current location, I'm not a regular customer of this pharmacy. But I promise to make every effort to return whenever I can.
In short, a ten doesn't do justice to either Almudena or Roberto.

The pharmacy staff are very friendly and helpful. I went in looking for a face cream and was truly impressed by the variety of products. They gave me excellent advice, answered all my questions, and I'm absolutely delighted with the product I bought. I'll definitely be back!
Luis Miguel Ratón García★☆☆☆☆
They refused to see me on Saturday, May 25, 2019, at 9:58 AM, even though the doors were open. To add insult to injury, they didn't even ask what I needed. It's because of an allergic reaction, and now I'm in the emergency room. The worst part is that I have two children with allergies, and my wife and mother-in-law buy everything there, from soaps to prescription vaccines. I'm not angry; I'm disappointed that they treat people this way when you're supposed to be a professional dealing with something as delicate as health. It's deplorable.
Pedro Pacheco★☆☆☆☆
It seems very illogical to me that they're suggesting different medications than the one your doctor prescribed. I imagine there must be a reason why your doctor gave you one medication and not another.

Practical Tips for Visiting a Pharmacy in Segovia
While finding the right address is half the battle, navigating the nuances of the Spanish pharmaceutical system will make your experience much smoother. Whether you are a local running a quick errand or a traveler in need of specific medication, understanding local customs and regulations ensures you get exactly what you need without frustration. Here are some essential tips to keep in mind when visiting a pharmacy in the city centre.
1. Know the Siesta Schedule
Most central pharmacies in Segovia follow standard Spanish commercial hours, typically opening from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM and then again from 5:00 PM to 9:30 PM. Do not attempt to visit between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM unless you have confirmed the specific location does not close for lunch. Planning your visit around these hours prevents a wasted trip up one of Segovia’s steep hills.
2. Look for the Green Cross
If you are walking and trying to spot a pharmacy, look for the illuminated green cross sign, which is the universal symbol for pharmacies in Spain. In the historic centre, these signs are often subtle to preserve the aesthetic of the old buildings, so pay close attention to storefront windows and doorways as you walk along the main pedestrian streets.
3. Prepare for the Language Barrier
While pharmacists in tourist-heavy areas of Segovia often speak some English, it is not guaranteed. If you do not speak Spanish, have your symptoms or the generic name of the medication you need written down or translated on your phone. Using a translation app to describe symptoms like "rash," "fever," or "allergy" can help the pharmacist provide the correct over-the-counter remedy.
4. Prescription vs. Over-the-Counter
Unlike in the United States, many medications that require a prescription elsewhere are available over the counter in Spain, but others are strictly controlled. If you take chronic medication, always carry a copy of your prescription or a letter from your doctor. This is particularly important for controlled substances, as Spanish pharmacists are legally obligated to verify the necessity before dispensing certain drugs.
5. Ask for Generic Brands
When purchasing over-the-counter medicine like Ibuprofen or Paracetamol, the pharmacist will often ask if you want the "genérico" (generic brand) or a commercial name. Generic brands in Spain are significantly cheaper and contain the exact same active ingredients. Saying "genérico, por favor" can save you a considerable amount of money, especially for common painkillers or cold medicine.
6. Use the "Farmacia de Guardia" System
If you need a pharmacy outside of normal hours, do not wander the streets looking for an open store. Go to the nearest pharmacy, even if it is closed. By law, the door must display a printed list of the "Farmacias de Guardia" for that specific day and their addresses. Alternatively, you can search online for "Farmacia de Guardia Segovia" to find the current 24-hour location.
Segovia is a city that seamlessly blends its rich historical heritage with the practical needs of modern life. While the Roman aqueduct and Gothic cathedral dominate the skyline, the network of pharmacies scattered throughout the old town provides a safety net that allows both residents and visitors to enjoy the city with peace of mind. Knowing where to go before an emergency arises is the best way to ensure a minor ailment does not disrupt your travel plans or daily routine.
Whether you are dealing with a blister from walking the ancient walls or simply need to restock on sunscreen for a day at the Alcázar gardens, these central locations offer professional and accessible care. Keep this guide handy as you explore the winding streets, and rest assured that the healthcare support you need is always just around the corner in Segovia.
