12 Best Bakeries and Patisseries near Place des Vosges

The Marais district holds a particular kind of magic, one that lingers in its hidden courtyards, aristocratic hôtels particuliers, and the perfectly symmetrical arcades of Place des Vosges. While the square itself is a monument to 17th-century urban planning, the surrounding streets hum with a more contemporary, delicious energy. For those who measure a neighborhood by the quality of its butter, flour, and sugar, this area is a veritable paradise.

Walking through this historic quarter, the scent of caramelizing dough and freshly pulled espresso is as much a part of the atmosphere as the stone facades. It is a neighborhood that demands you slow down, take a seat on a park bench, and savor the moment. And what better companion for such a moment than a meticulously crafted pastry or a crusty, golden baguette?

Whether you are a visitor seeking the perfect croissant or a local hunting for a sourdough loaf with a deeply burnished crust, the choices can be overwhelming. The area is dense with contenders, ranging from historic institutions that have served generations to modern artisans pushing the boundaries of viennoiserie. You need a guide to separate the merely good from the truly transcendent.

This curated list focuses on the bakers and pastry chefs who treat flour, water, and butter with the reverence they deserve. We have walked the cobblestones, sampled the flaky layers, and tested the crumb structure to bring you the definitive guide to the area’s finest. These are the spots where technique meets tradition, resulting in edible works of art.

From award-winning baguettes that crackle when you squeeze them to delicate fruit tarts that look like stained glass, the offerings here reflect the sophistication of the Marais. Each establishment brings a distinct philosophy to the table, whether it is a commitment to ancient grains, organic milling, or the pursuit of the perfect laminated dough.

We have considered not just the pastries themselves, but the entire experience: the warmth of the service, the beauty of the shop interiors, and the consistency of the product. After all, a great bakery is not just a place to buy food; it is a cornerstone of the community and a sensory experience.

Below, you will find a selection of the best places to satisfy your cravings near Place des Vosges. Whether you are planning a picnic in the square or looking for a gift box of chocolates and confections, these addresses will not disappoint.

A buttery little secret worth strolling for 🥐✨ I’m always on the lookout for neighbourhood gems—and this charming little pâtisserie did not disappoint. Tucked away on a quiet Parisian street, it serves beautifully crafted cakes and gloriously buttery croissants that feel both indulgent and comforting. The service was genuinely friendly. There are a few cosy tables inside, but one of the joys of this spot is taking your pastries to go. We grabbed our treats, wandered over to Place des Vosges, and enjoyed them in the sunshine before gallery hopping—pure Parisian bliss. We tried a classic croissant (flaky, rich, and perfectly baked) and a lemon & thyme tart, which struck a lovely balance between zesty freshness and subtle herbal notes. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates quality pastries. We’ll definitely be back. 💛 🥐🍋☕🧁🇫🇷 #ParisPatisserie #FoodieFind #ButteryCroissants #LemonAndThyme #NeighbourhoodGem #PlaceDesVosges #ParisEats #WorthTheCalories

I’ve had the pistachio millefeuille, raspberry chocolate tart and lemon tart. Raspberry chocolate is my favourite out of the three, balanced and mild. Pistachio too sweet, lemon too sour.
Aida Moudachirou★★★★★
Went for a taste of the now famous ice cream. I fully understand the hype! It is simply delicious. Amazing choices of flavors, really yummy and the cones are light, tasty, crunchy! I recommend a short stroll to the park across the street to enjoy! The whole thing is magic!
Yuki Matsusaki★★★★★
I enjoyed the flan and citron tartes a lot. They are neither too sweet nor oily, but achieved good balance in flavor.

Very tasty ice-creams and sorbets, up to 10 different flavors, queue sometimes, good coffee. There are few tables for inside but most of people take it away. Highly recommended

Nice little corner bakery offering a common Paris bake good. The staff were welcoming and friendly. A few seats were available in front and inside the store.
Katie Ross★★★★★
Tranché is the delicious gentrified bakery that makes life in the Marais that much sweeter. The modern branding makes transactions feel justified, like spending 28€ on 8 end-of-day cookies that were soft and enormous with high quality ingredients but ultimately lacked salt. I live nearby and have spent hundreds of euros at Tranché and will spend continue to spend hundreds more. Flan: Cold but especially delicious, the vanilla flavor evolves with each bite. Buying a full flan cake is a hit for any party or gathering. Chou-crème: so delicious, everyone loves them. But inconsistent: some have been 5 star morsels, but others have tasted refrigerator-like, been dry and flavorless Chocolate chip cookie: good ingredients, huge, very soft and moist, lacks salt Quiche: Good but should be heated up first Bar des fruit rouges: good flavor but cake-y and soft/moist. Not a dry, crumbly bar that you might imagine. Doesn’t carry flavor so well. Interior of the bakery is very nice, natural, ancient exposed stone. There is minimal seating, what they do have fits the glove (serves an essential purpose) but it isn’t particularly cozy. This place is best for takeout pastries and loaves of bread, but expect to pay millennial level prices. Go to Tranché in the morning before the baked goods have been sitting out for too long, and seriously, try the flan. Don’t go expecting to accommodate an entire group sitting down, instead expect to buy large quantities of delicious pastries in expensive-looking modern packaging, or perhaps to sit down at a table for two at 8am on a quiet morning, and order craft drinks made on a high-end coffee machine and delicious baked goods. Tranché is a great addition to the Marais, this bakery is having its moment!

Simply the best Boulangerie in the area surrounding the Bastille. Super nice staff, a cozy little seating area for coffee and one of their fabulous breakfast treats. Also available for lunch are the classic sandwiches.

Cozy atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff. Perfect quality of food and coffee. One of the best Afro cream in cappuccino.

We visited this cute little bakery twice during our trip for breakfast. We had croissants and pain au chocolat ,both were delicious! We also had cappuccinos, which were really nice. It’s such a sweet and charming spot and a cute neighborhood. The other pastries looked amazing too although we didn’t get the chance to try them.

I only got take away desserts but the staff was friendly and helpful. The host was funny too. He saw me looking indecisively over the many beautiful desserts and joked that if I didn't find enough there that he would help find me more. I picked several that were all delicious. I wish we had stayed to enjoy our pastries there.

Carette at Place des Vosges is an absolute classic, but as a Paris resident, it holds a truly special place in my heart! While it is undeniably famous and popular, this location tends to have shorter queues and is much easier to get into compared to the bustling Trocadéro branch. The atmosphere here is incredibly stylish and beautifully blends a classic Parisian vibe with a sophisticated, modern touch. I have brought my visiting family and friends here for brunch countless times, and every single visit results in a wonderful, memorable experience. Their breakfast menu is my absolute favorite, featuring perfectly made pastries and hot chocolate. However, this café is also incredibly versatile. I frequently use it for "Apéro" time during girls' nights out, and their selection of wines and cocktails is always superb. On top of that, their pastries are exceptional. My family's absolute favorite is the Mont Blanc cake, which we always make sure to buy as a takeaway for a delightful treat at home. Whether you are looking for a relaxing morning, a chic evening drink, or world-class desserts, this place never disappoints. It is a must-visit gem in the Marais!

Loved their hot chocolate diffinetly one of the best in Paris! Their service is fast and overwhelming view beautiful I love the place. I love the spot. They have a cozy seating area. It can fit a group of people and it's a perfect place to grab a snack and a hot chocolate obviously.
Craig Hall★★★★☆
The hot chocolate is nice with the fresh cream, the 2 citron tart was special, the crepes and chouquette were done well and the croissant was a good one. The coffee was decent too. We were seated quite quickly and the staff were friendly, our waiter however got our order wrong twice and didn't bring any sugar with the coffee to our table. Small things but when you're at a place where you're paying €21 for a few strawberries, you expect a little more.
Will Friedman★★★★★
Expensive but amazing breakfast. Very rich eggs (maybe too rich) delicious hot chocolate with generous chantilly cream available, coffee with alternative milks for Americans like me. They sell a bowl of strawberries (21€) which might even be worth it (we opted instead for fruit crepes which had a few). Beautiful location under brick arches next to place des Voges park in the marais. Fast and effective service.

A cute small bakety to grab something to est, the pain chocolate is a bit too “burreuse”, but Very tasty. The lady is serving so kindly and the merengues seem to be soo good and in great variety. At lunch time is popular for sanwiches. It is in a small street hidden under the main ones

Wonderful bakery - try the viennoise chocolat, croissant or breakfast bagel! Get your coffee from The Coffee across the street and enjoy it all in the little garden nearby.

Boulangerie Roulés Boulés translates variously as rolled rolls or rolled up dough, and their various rolled offerings are all scrumptious, along with a healthy selection of take away sandwiches and tartines on fresh baguettes. It is also one of the few patisseries open on Monday which is important if you want bread or a take away lunch at the beginning of a busy week. The deep purple wine poached pear tarte accented with chartreuse pistachios caught my attention and turned out as delicious as it looked. Other various lunch offerings include bright kaleidoscope hued vegetarian focaccia with thinly sliced multi colored peppers, red onions, mushrooms and cheese. Bread selections include the ever present pain norvégien or bread that captures the Nordic interest in healthy nutritional seeded bread often using non gluten flours like rye. The French versions typically are dense dark smaller loaves sporting seeds on top and more generally folded throughout inside. These seeds can vary, baker’s choice, but may include sunflower, sesame, millet or flax which all provide a bit of protein. The thin crust is generally crisp, even more so when toasted but the interior crumb is moist enough to remain soft with some chewiness, a welcome combo with butter or cheese if not overwhelmed by the toasty aroma of the bread itself. A personal favorite as it reveals something about the baker. Check them out anytime but remember for Mondays.
Fernando Ramirez★★★★★
When in Paris, I can't simply get enough of their pastries and delights. This boulangerie offers some of the best pastries I have tried in Paris. If you are a fan of lemon tart (tarte citron), then this is your place! Also try their baguettes, they are to die for!
D Mo★★★★★
I have been here so much during my 5 weeks living on this street…it’s so dangerous!!! Everything I’ve tasted is amazing and I have eaten a lot of pastries in Paris to make the comparison. Pan au chocolate is large size with a very generous amount of chocolate inside - so delicious and so fresh. Croissants crispy and light, buttery and so fresh. Cinnamon scroll and something that looks like almond croissant with chocolate and apple inside, both amazing. Quiche with chorizo so delicious. Everything I’ve had here is remarkable. I’ve read the negative comments and I can’t believe we’re talking about the same place. It does have a different name and look on the outside now so maybe the owners have changed. Definitely worth making a trip to try all this deliciousness!! Just go.

A chilled cafe to enjoy your babka roll. Came as first customer in the morning. Staff was very friendly and the music was nice. Felt like listening to my morning spotify playlist. Babka Rolll with Noisette Chocolate was very good.

A tiny place with delicious babkas and sandwiches. If you're lucky to grab a seat (very small place) you'll enjoy a warm atmosphere. Otherwise, grab to go and enjoy at Place des Vosgues close by. It's SO worth it!

One cannot resist going in. The cafe is very inviting. The staff explained their Polish Jewish baking lineage. Tried the chocolate hazelnut babka (brioche) and an espresso. Very pleasant experience. The brioche was a bit too much bread for me but the chocolate and hazelnut were a real nice touch. I found the espresso a bit on the acidic side. Very helpful and attentive staff.
Amina Panduru★★★★★
I give this place 5 stars, but the food was between 4/5 stars. I got the dirty apple strudel 🍎🍯. The dough was a little dry in some parts, but the flavor combo was great! The chai latte also is amazing and they can make it with vegan milk!! But it was not really warm, kind of room temperature… However, the combo between this drink and my pastry were super nice and soo fall themed. 🍂 However, the cafe vibe is very cute and cozy, the employees were very nice and helpful and overall, it’s the kind of place where I would love to come back! Also they got wifi so it’s great if you want to do some work while savoring your goodies. ☺️ Also, I like that they don’t have a more expensive price if you want to serve the goods inside, as some places do.

Simply the best sweet spot in Paris. Take my words Best babka, fresh and generous, always with seasonal recipe well thought. Every other Jewish type bakery good and snack are a hit. Must try

Delicious pastries for everyone! The “Babka chocolat noisette” was absolutely delicious - we couldn’t believe it was vegan. Everything else looked amazing too. We were lucky to get a lovely table, although there weren’t many seats available. Still, we highly recommend this place!

Incredibly good food!! The Summer sandwich is so refreshing and the desserts are delicious. Very good value and entirely vegan. Highly recommend, for non vegans and vegans alike!

This is an excellent vegan chain that needs to come to London! Great pastries, sandwiches and cakes. I had to visit a few times during my trip to try as much and loved everything. Highlights were the BLT, the tuna sandwich and chocolate eclair. Would visit every day if I could 🙂

Fantastic vegan bakery and boulangerie! They offer a wide variety of sweet and savory pastries, salads, focaccias, sandwiches, and hot dogs (which are all plant-based). They also have beautiful French tarts and desserts. Everything is 100% vegan. A must-visit in Paris, whether you are vegan or not!✨🌱

The beautiful location is ruined by the amateurish, sluggish, and incredibly slow service. I ordered a "long coffee" after a 10-minute wait on the terrace, and it arrived after another 10 minutes, lukewarm, and without hot water (it was an espresso in a large cup). €7.50 for a "long coffee" that wasn't one at all. People waited ages on the terrace to finally be served. A tourist trap.

Aux Merveilleux de Fred is an absolute treat! Their meringues with cream filling are unbelievably delicious-light, delicate, and full of flavor. The pistachio one was definitely the best and my absolute favorite. A perfect place for anyone with a sweet tooth

Disappointment. Been here couple of times before and the hot chocolate was thick, served in a kettle, with whipped cream. Now they started serving simple Nesquick in a cup, saying "we changed a concept". No more kettles and nice cups (asked a waitress about that). Too bad this nice place lowered its standards and lost its appeal.
Dmytro Perebyinis★☆☆☆☆
You should wait for a waiter your entire life. Sometimes you will be ignored 🙁 Hot chocolate resembles Nesquik, and you won't find it presented in a fancy way anymore. Besides that, you can't return your order

Croissants from France is worth the hype. I honestly didn’t think it would be, but this place impressed me as my first stop. I didn’t know how buttery, flaky, and soft a croissant can be until I had a croissant here. It made me wonder why most croissants are not like this in the U.S. Note: watch out for the little step where the entrance is if you’re walking out because I witnessed someone fall.
Ekaterina Pchelnikova★★★★☆
Take croissant, tartelettes de pommes and a big chocolate macaron - they are amazing! All other desserts were also very delicious.
Christina Montinola★★★★☆
We stopped here after lunch across the street for coffee and dessert. The bakery is beautiful, and the displays are filled with pastries, cakes, macarons, sandwiches, and fresh breads that all look tempting. Even though we were already full, we couldn’t resist trying the lemon tart and taking home some macarons. The coffee was good, and the lemon tart was delicious. One thing to keep in mind is that terrace seating costs more than takeaway, so check the prices before deciding where to sit. Overall, it’s a nice place to stop if you’re already exploring Le Marais. The location is excellent, the neighborhood is charming, and it’s a great spot to relax and people-watch. Like many places in Le Marais, it’s a little more expensive, but you’re also paying for the prime location and atmosphere. The area feels very safe and is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Paris. if I’m back in the area, I’d happily stop by again and try some of the items they’re best known for, especially the croissants, sandwiches, or quiche.
AliceCooperMark★★★★☆
One of the most extravagant pastry shops in paris. The millefeuille was amazing. Good service overall
Hasan Awan★★★★☆
During my first day exploring Paris this winter, I had the pleasure of starting my morning at this charming bakery. The experience was cozy and inviting, a perfect introduction to the city’s culinary delights. The coffee was rich and aromatic, a delightful companion to the flaky, buttery croissants, and the éclair was absolutely divine, striking the right balance of sweetness and texture. While the bakery itself offers a lovely experience for those nearby, I’d say it’s more of a local gem than a destination spot. If you find yourself in the neighborhood, it’s definitely worth stopping by. However, I wouldn’t recommend making a special trip from afar, as the essence of this bakery is best enjoyed as part of a broader exploration of the area’s offerings.

This flan absolutely deserves the hype😋😋 The filling is silky and luxuriously smooth, with this deep, almost intoxicating vanilla and egg custard flavor that hits you all at once. The pastry shell is something else entirely — think flattened croissant dough, all shatteringly crisp layers soaked in butter. Together they create this incredibly satisfying contrast in every single bite. And yet somehow it never gets too sweet, never too heavy. Just clean, rich, layered flavor from start to finish. For just over €4 in Paris, this is one of the best value things you can put in your mouth in this city. Go! Immediately!
Yevgen Gusovskyy★★★★☆
Yann Couvreur on rue des Rosiers is good, reliable, and technically very polished. The location is excellent, the shop looks sharp, and the pastry work is precise: the glossy chocolate éclair is clean and balanced, the chestnut pastry has proper depth without turning heavy, and the baba-style cake is soft, rich, and neatly controlled. You can feel the training and the system behind it. That is also the limitation. For me it tastes a bit too managed, a bit too corporate, with less warmth and less soul than the best pastry shops. Still, quality is there, and when you want something dependable in the Marais, this place delivers.
Sviatlana.B★★★★☆
A sweet little spot in Le Marais, a lovely, very nice pâtisserie selection, every treat looks fresh and inviting. Wonderful, kind service. Thank you! ☺️🤍
Yana Baykova★☆☆☆☆
I strongly do NOT recommend this pastry shop ‼️‼️ After seeing so many positive reviews from travel bloggers, I thought this place was a must-visit. What a mistake. My boyfriend and I ordered two pain au chocolat, a coffee and a fox-shaped dessert, which I believe is one of their signature item. The dessert was extremely greasy - every bite felt like eating a chunk of butter. The aftertaste was already unpleasant right after we finished. A couple of hours later, both of us started feeling very sick. My boyfriend ate most of the food and he ended up vomiting in a public place. We immediately had to go back to the hotel because we felt awful. On the way back, I got very sick in the subway station and vomited as well. Once we got to the hotel, it got even worse - both of us vomited around 5 times each. We had body aches, fever, dehydration and severe stomach pain. This was not just “heavy food” - this felt like food poisoning!!! Thank you for completely ruining my birthday!!! Instead of enjoying the city and good food, I spent the entire day feeling absolutely terrible! Because of this experience, I now can’t even try anything else!! I’m writing this so that no one else has to go through the same experience. Please be careful.

Due to the convenient location and quick service, we came by 3 times. We tried several things. Everything was fresh and delicious! Our favorites were almond croissant, macrons, quiche loraine, beignets, apple tart. Also had sandwiches, salads, baguette traditionale, cappuccino and other croissant types. They were courteous and friendly. So happy to of found this french gem during our trip. Only complaint was that the tables needed to be wiped down. Its a great grab and go spot.

Decent for sure. Matcha was an interesting color, but not bad. They did not have WiFi to my knowledge, which was a bummer. But plenty of space to sit!

I ordered a Latte and they forgot the milk, the lady who made it didn't apologize for her mistake and tried to gaslight me that I never ordered a latte. The workers were awful, rude, inefficient, very slow. They forgot my order and I had to wait for a while for someone to show up and make it. The croissant wasn't leafy and light.

Bakeries in Paris operate on a strict rhythm, and understanding the etiquette and timing will significantly enhance your experience. Here is how to navigate the scene like a true Parisian, ensuring you get the freshest products and the warmest service.

Go early or go late. The best croissants and pain au chocolat are usually pulled from the oven between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM. If you want them warm and at their peak of crispiness, set an alarm. Conversely, if you are looking for a deal, many bakeries discount their baguettes and pastries in the final hour before closing.

Ask for a "tradition." When buying a baguette, always ask for a "baguette de tradition" or simply "une tradition." This designation is protected by French law and guarantees the bread is made with only flour, water, salt, and yeast—no additives or frozen dough. It is the marker of a serious bakery and always offers a better crust and flavor.

Handle with care. Parisians carry their bread under their arm, often with the end (le quignon) missing because they have already eaten it on the way home. Do not be shy about breaking off the warm end of your baguette as you walk to Place des Vosges; it is a time-honored tradition and the ultimate quality test.

Bring cash for small purchases. While most modern patisseries accept credit cards, there is often a minimum spend of 10 or 15 euros. If you are just buying a single croissant or a small pastry, having a few coins or a five-euro note will speed up the transaction and keep the line moving smoothly for everyone.

Plan for closures. Many of the top artisan bakeries close for two or three days a week (often Monday or Tuesday) to rest their staff and maintain quality. Before setting your heart on a specific pastry, check the shop’s hours online or be prepared to have a backup option nearby.

The beauty of exploring the bakeries around Place des Vosges is that there is no wrong choice, only different expressions of a deeply rooted craft. Whether you find your bliss in a dense, dark loaf of rye or a cloud-like brioche filled with pastry cream, the journey is its own reward.

After you have made your selection, take the short walk back to the square. Find a spot under the arches or on the central lawn (when it is open), unwrap your treasure, and take a moment to appreciate the harmony between the architecture, the city sounds, and the simple perfection of French baking. It is, quite simply, one of the best ways to experience Paris.
