15 Best Cafes in Honfleur

Honfleur’s cobbled lanes, slate-fronted houses and gently bobbing fishing boats have made it one of Normandy’s most enduring coastal escapes. Beyond the gallery windows and antique shops, the town hides a quieter daily rhythm that begins with the scent of fresh coffee and warm pastry.

Visitors often arrive expecting only a picturesque harbour, yet the café scene here offers far more than a quick espresso stop. From sunlit terraces overlooking the Vieux Bassin to tucked-away rooms behind timbered facades, each address has its own pace and personality.

Choosing where to sit can shape an entire afternoon in Honfleur. Some places suit slow mornings with a book, while others are better for a sharp ristretto before walking up to the Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Grâce or exploring the narrow Rue Haute.

This guide is built around quality, atmosphere and consistency rather than trend alone. It favours establishments that welcome both locals and travellers, use properly trained baristas or respected local roasters, and maintain a genuine sense of place instead of a generic high-street formula.

Every café listed here has been assessed for coffee quality, pastry freshness, service and interior character. Practical details such as terrace access, location relative to the harbour and whether a stop suits a quick break or a longer sit-down are also considered.

Whether you are planning a rainy autumn afternoon by the water or a bright summer morning before the crowds arrive, these are the cafés that best capture Honfleur’s unhurried charm.

Sometimes the best restaurant experiences are the ones you walk into with absolutely no expectations. Le Brunch Café in Honfleur completely exceeded ours — from the delicious food and gorgeous cakes to the refreshing drinks and warm, attentive service. We were genuinely mesmerised by the whole experience. Highly recommend! ✨

A very nice brunch Menue if you are searching for a good brunch here is a good place. They also offer oat milk in your coffee 🙂
Perla Barbara★☆☆☆☆
Very bad service. They are extremely slow. We waited almost 45 minutes for two coffees and an avocado toast! As tourists passing through Honfleur for just one day, coming to this café was a waste of time. The avocado toast was less than normal just toast with avocado on top. The worst surprise was finding an insect on the lettuce, which clearly hadn’t even been washed.
Katie Welch★★★★★
Delicious food and coffee and really beautiful little spot with a view of historic clock tower when you sit out the front. Staff were very welcoming and friendly and it was quick service. Not cheap, but worth the price.

Very nice coffee place: excellent choice of coffees and tea, exquisite cake and pastries. Inside lovely French style with lots of personality. Terrace opposite of church with nice view and sun in afternoon. No dogs allowed inside.

The store owner was so kind, funny, and gracious. We were looking for an iced coffee and even though he didn’t have it on the menu, he made his first one ever just for us! The store itself is absolutely beautiful too. Definitely check it out!

This is an excellent and very atmospheric shop, their wine is excellent and the owners are wonderful

Truly enjoyed our visit here with the ability to stop for a drink while shopping for local handmade jewelry or antiques inside. We enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere and fine select selection. We would highly recommend stopping in to visit.

An absolute gem! This concept store is simply brilliant. They serve top-quality regional food and drinks, the shop area is brimming with unique items, and the outdoor terrace is truly charming. Special mention goes to the owner, who is incredibly kind and provides a fantastic welcome! A must-visit; you can go without hesitation.

A perfect morning away from the crowds. The service was warm and friendly, with real attention to detail and quality. The food was authentic and full of flavour. The scrambled eggs were perfectly fluffy, and the jams and chocolate tasted homemade, with wonderfully pure and natural flavours. We even saw the fresh brioche coming straight out of the oven. A lovely place to start the day!

Cute little homemade brunch with great pastry and coffee, and great spot too! The owner was very sweet. Definitely coming back here again.

Our morning at La Maison du Tripot in Honfleur turned into one of those rare breakfasts you don’t just eat – you remember. The moment we stepped inside, the atmosphere embraced us: a small Norman house, warm light, and a real fireplace quietly burning in the corner. The gentle crackle of the logs created a calm, almost cinematic feeling, like waking up in a countryside novel. It was the kind of place where time slows down and you actually want to linger over every cup rather than rush out to sightseeing. The tea was excellent – aromatic and comforting – but the true stars of the table were the homemade jams and confitures. Each jar tasted carefully prepared and full of character: rich fruit flavors, balanced sweetness, and that unmistakable homemade depth you rarely encounter even in very good hotels. Every bite felt thoughtful rather than routine. Service deserves special mention. Our waiter, originally from Madagascar, was exceptionally kind and attentive without ever being intrusive. He brought warmth and personality to the experience, spoke with genuine friendliness, and made us feel welcomed rather than simply served. His care, small conversations, and attentive timing elevated the breakfast from pleasant to memorable. A cozy room, a living fireplace, wonderful tea, remarkable preserves, and heartfelt hospitality — this was not just a good breakfast. It was a perfect Norman morning.
Olga Nazarkina★★★★★
Dream breakfast! We took the savory one and it was very delicious. The tea collection is also incredible. Homemade pineapple jam is definitely one of the reasons to come back.
Simon Jacobs★★★★★
Only one place to have breakfast in Honfleur and that’s La Maison Du Tripot. It was fabulous. The range of items is incredible, bread, butter, three types of condiments (including chocolate), fruit yogurt, brioche, salmon/bacon, eggs (done anyway you like), fruit juice, tea/coffee/hot chocolate - all for 20 euros. Outstanding service, very cool owners. We loved this place and will definitely return again. Thank you x

Great place with really tasty food! The portions are generous and the value for money is excellent. We had burgers and mussels — the mussels portion was huge and absolutely delicious. Special thanks to the waiter — very friendly and attentive service. Would definitely come back 🙌

Almost random choice, could not have picked a better place to lunch in Honfleur today. Très bien! Excellent. Enter without any doubt.

Went to Honfleur to find a place to eat that all 5 of us would like. It's a good place for Sea food lovers of which I'm not but there was a burger on the 24€ menu so I got that with boiled eggs to start and creme brulee to finish. It was very good and the others who got sea food were happy too. We thought that it would be difficult to get seating for 5 on such a busy day but we were given a round table and served very quickly. There were no long waits for food either..
Bryan Bryan★★★★★
I normally don’t write reviews, but this place absolutely deserves one. We ordered the boeuf bourguignon, confit, and fish and chips, and everything came out incredibly fast. After being disappointed by several restaurants in Paris, this spot completely made up for it. The food was outstanding, comforting, and full of flavor — exactly what we had been hoping to find. This is one of those rare, unforgettable restaurants that you simply have to visit at least once in your life. I genuinely hope more people get the chance to experience it. Highly recommended.
Jack Algera★★★★★
Super friendly service, made us feel right at home! We highly recommend the mussels and their signature "Le Café Du Port" burger

Omg. Just wow. We were absolutely starving after flying into paris and driving over and decided on the prefix lunch. What a treat that was. A little yogurt with a fruit jam and a biscuit to start with, along with a coffee product and a juice blend, followed by a dish with salad, savory biscuits, smoked turkey/salmon, eggs, potatoes. When we were in a food coma, they brought another sampler of 4 desserts. All absolutely delicious! This gem makes a trip to honfluer worth it in its own.
Jean Pierre Bisilliat★★★★☆
Loved everything about this place. I gave 4 stars because they really should have a totally separate menu for the items they serve at different times. I saw things I wanted but couldn’t get both time I went. The food was delicious and the croissants are perfection! The dish with sweet potato waffles was spectacular! See photo..

A must during your stay in Honfleur. We love the food, the service is always excellent, very kid friendly and there is a lovely atmosphere! Definitely order the pain perdu.
Regina Paltis★★★★☆
I have mixed feelings about this place. We arrived between breakfast and lunch. We were seated right away but it took us 10 mins to get a menu and then another 5 mins for a waitress to take our drink order and we didn't get our drinks for 25 mins after that. By this point, I was pretty mad. Eventually our food was brought out, and it was very good, so that made up for the wait slightly. My recommendation would be to come here after 11 am. Anything before that is super slow and the menu is very minimal before that time. On a positive note, it's a very cute atmosphere, both inside and outside. The issue seemed to be a lack of staff. What appeared to be a husband and wife team, they were both very nice when they came by, but very elusive because it was just the two of them. Food was yummy.
Paul Cook★★★★★
Wonderful, very accommodating and had wonderful breakfasts. The chef was lovely to chat to and sorted my wife’s breakfast to cater for her gluten intolerance. Lovely style and ambience to the place as well.

As soon as we entered, we were instantly greeted with a friendly hello from all the staff! Such a welcoming environment. We had the moules-frites (which came with a choice of three sauces) and an omelette (which was the best omelette I have ever had — I’ve had a lot). Very well priced, great food, lovely staff. It is also very central and located directly next to the port (vieux bassin). Can’t recommend enough!
Bob Morris★★★★★
We had a great meal! Wonderful small mussels that were tender and tasty. We asked for bread to soak up the extra sauce. The desserts were a perfect ending to our experience here. I just had a take a photo of the happy staff and their glad attention to our needs. They even sing and laugh throughout the evening! We're welcome to join them in having a great dining experience!

We are just tourists off a cruise ship and had limited time to explore this beautiful old town. Stopped into this quaint venue and enjoyed some croque monsieur & frites... Yum and reasonably priced. Very friendly service too!
Neil McKay★☆☆☆☆
It's a pity there isn't a zero star rating really for customer service , however , it deserves a 5 star rating for the rudeness of the staff. I Had a litre of beer accidentally poured all over me by the waitress but when she brought back the replacement she had the audacity to ask whether I was paying for it by cash or card whilst tossing me a bit of kitchen roll. When I complained to the manager and suggested that the replacement should be complimentary at least as a form of apology I was told it was only beer , it happens to him all the time and he just sucks it off. Obviously furious at ths off hand attitude I refused to pay for the replacement beer which was then promptly taken back to be served to another unsuspecting customer I can only presume. Avoid , Avoid , Avoid !

If you’re visiting Honfleur, make sure you stop by Pollen — it’s an absolute gem in this beautiful little village. The pastries are incredible: buttery, fresh, perfectly baked, and honestly some of the most delicious we’ve had. Everything tastes like it’s just come out of the oven, and it’s impossible to leave without wanting more. It does get very busy, especially when it comes to tables and service, but it all comes together eventually and is well worth the wait. The staff are amazing — efficient, friendly, and clearly doing their very best to accommodate everyone and keep things moving. Thankfully, the table turnaround is pretty quick too. Definitely eat there if you can, and don’t leave without buying extra pastries to take with you for the onward journey. You’ll regret it if you don’t!
Симеон Симеонов★☆☆☆☆
If you ignore the hairy croissants and absolutely horrendous service, the toilet was good. Forgot to mention- in the kitchen they do not use gloves/anything to cover their hair.

Most amazing chocolate, croissant and cappuccino. Very nice place ☕️ 🥐 👍🏻👍🏻

Good: cute interior Bad: pretty bad and overpriced coffee and very underwhelming croissants. I live in NYC and have tried a lot of croissants and this one doesn’t come close to the better ones I had in New York (in fact it’s below average). Iced coffee was around 6 euros and it was from an nespresso machine.

Really nice spot right in front of the harbour, so the view is beautiful and it’s a lovely place to sit and watch the boats and people go by. The prices are a little high for the portions. I had the salmon and avocado toast, which was quite small, but the taste was really good! 🤤 The tarte Tatin for dessert absolutely hit the spot — it was SO good! My boyfriend enjoyed his dish a little less as he found it lacking in flavour, but overall we had a nice experience. The staff were also really friendly and welcoming. A great spot to relax and enjoy the harbour!
Ben Wood★★★☆☆
Delicious food friendly service. Horrendous music! Saw this place on Google reviews with one of the the highest scores so decided to visit. Friendly service and the food was delicious, albeit quite pricey. Fish soup was very tasty and lobster with pasta was superb but the whole experience was completely ruined by the horrendous eurotrash 90s dance music mix which gave me indigestion and totally killed the relaxing atmosphere of the port. Change the music and I'd be back like a shot. Otherwise give it a miss.
Mylé Chirapornsuk★★★★★
The best meal I’ve had in France so far! We started with the mussels in cream sauce, and they were absolutely divine. The sauce was rich, flavorful, and perfect for soaking up with bread. The oysters were also super fresh. The tagliatelle homard was the star of the meal. You could really taste the quality of the ingredients—the fresh herbs, the beautifully balanced sauce, and the lobster itself. The portion was generous, with a whole lobster included, and it was incredibly juicy, fresh, and delicious. Every element of the dish was executed perfectly. A memorable meal and a restaurant I would happily return to.
J N★★★★★
I went with friends and waited for 5minutes to get seat. Staff was friendly and helpful even though they spoke little English. Food was good especially lobsters. The Normandy dessert was good. It seems bit overpriced but worthy for the price. Outside was crowded
Rebecca Jamie★★★★★
A fantastic restaurant- you could tell the staff are happy to be there! The crepes we had were delicious and filling. We tried the Normandie and the pepper steak. Very comfortable chairs and such a pretty view! My favourite of our trip so far.

A short walk from the harbour and well worth it. A real oasis of peace and beautiful food. The garden at the rear is delightful and lovely to hear the birds, and burbling water, whilst eating.

Cosy tastefully decorated colorful tearoom. Gives a cheerful vibe! The tea options were good! The waffle was the best, a combination of chocolate and pears, just yummy! Very much recommended when in Hornfleur.

Waffles are nice for both salty and sweet. Place is also lovely decorated. Yet I consider it's quite pricey for such waffles and 5 euro cappuccino.

Very nice place in the heart of Honfleur. It looks like they offer very nice waffles and the diversity of tea is impressive. Unfortenately we just wanted to have a fine coffee, which was only mediocre. Also, no iced coffee. Still, the place is worth a visit!

It's a good place to look around the port and take a rest for a while. There is a cute dachshund in the cafe. Besides coffee, there are tea types, and there is a menu that you can eat as a set with madeleine. It was a great cafe because the staff were so kind. I think this is the place I want to visit again in Honfleur.

Fantastic scones!!! This place has a large selection of teas, offers coffee (with soy & almond milk !), various types of cakes (linzer, crumble, clafoutis…), and serves brunch, in a cosy interior. They also have books and board games on the 1st floor. Really enjoyed their terrace with wooden chairs. The staff was efficient, helpful, and very kind.

Amazing drinks, great vibe, and nice dogs that are around the outside area. Shout out Maurice the brown Schnauzer, he was incredibly fun to play around with

I adore this restaurant. Tartes are listed on a blackboard and the simple writing totally underestimates the quality and delicious taste of each tarte. I've gone to this place for lunch two days in a row! The crust is crunchy, not soggy, and the vegetables are ample and rich. Absolutely delicious! I could not recommend this more.

We had a fabulous dinner to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday and were charmed by this restaurant. The interior has a great theme with sausage dogs and makes you want to explore every single corner. The menu has an Asian cuisine twist and everything is beautifully prepared and presented. The upside down bowl and the salad were both excellent and the drinks were of great quality and price (very good Prosecco for anyone that has missed a glass of this).
Gunsu Kiziltan★★★★★
Cute little restaurant that we enjoyed very much, African and French vibes together, the chef makes a great combination. We were lucky to find a seat for two without reservation. We tried the shrimp tempura, hamburger and the famous upside down. All delicious with combination to great vines. A must try local option in Honfleur as there are a lot of touristic restaurants which I did not like. It is a dog friendly restaurant and you can see and pet Sissi there, she is really cute. The owners and the service were implacable. If we come to Honfleur again, we will definitely do another visit to this lovely restaurant.
Richard Bacon★★★★★
We could not fault this place. The welcome was wonderful, the service fantastic and the food utterly delicious. We really appreciated the effort to understand our poor French and we really appreciated how welcome we were made to feel. Thank you again for a really lovely evening.

I went yesterday to get a dinner with my friends. The staff was very kind and offered a place to sit within 15minutes. I ordered beef with green peppers. It was tasty and yummy. Nice scenery to sit and eat outside.

After a long walk, we stopped at Sissi & Voltaire for a warm drink. We and our dog were given a very friendly welcome. The cosy atmosphere, the cheerful mood and warm welcome prompted us to spontaneously decide to eat something too. We are vegans and our wishes were taken into account as a matter of course and without any fuss. The food was extra delicious, beautifully presented and served quickly. We felt completely at home! Thank you very much for a wonderful stay, we would love to come back!

We came to Honfleur for a walk and decided it was the perfect opportunity to have a classic French crêpe for breakfast. We found this little crêperie through Google reviews and decided to give it a try. I ordered a savory crêpe with salmon, while my husband had one with bacon. Both were very filling and tasty. The only thing I personally wasn’t completely used to was the batter, as I normally prefer a slightly sweeter taste, but I believe this is the traditional style used for savory French galettes, so it was simply a matter of personal preference. I also ordered a freshly made fruit and vegetable juice, which was really refreshing, while my husband tried the cider — also very good and a perfect match with the crêpes. The only downside was the service. Our waitress didn’t speak English, which of course is absolutely fine, but even when it was clear that we couldn’t understand French, she continued answering us only in French, which made communication quite difficult. We also ordered an additional drink that was unfortunately forgotten, and overall the service didn’t feel particularly warm or welcoming. That said, the food itself was very good, and it was a lovely way to start our day in beautiful Honfleur and experience a classic French crêperie.
Reneé Pereyra Elías★★★★☆
Awesome ice cream place in Honfleur. The ice cream guy was pretty nice and the ice creams were really creamy, good flavour. I think the customer service could’ve been a bit more proactive in terms of cleaning the table we chose to sit in before we asked a couple times, and perhaps the toilets could’ve been a tad cleaner. That’s why I wouldn’t rate them all five stars. Other than that, awesome place! 100% recommended !

It is very delicious!! We tried the ice cream not the crepe. Although the smell of crepe was so nice! They are so generous with the quantity and the flavors are so delicious and they are truly homemade flavors 😋 the owners of the restaurant are very nice. I do recommend this place if you love ice cream!

Highly recommend! We loved our food and service here! Our family of 5 from Canada are happy we stopped in on May 17th. Julienne welcomed us with a smile and recommended a beautiful wine and brew, with a delicious bread, meat and cheese plate 😋 He was patient and spoke good english for us. The atmosphere and vibe of this establishment were top notch. Thank you! We would all love to return one day soon 🙂

First day in Honfleur, nice walk around and found this little place on the Marina... I asked the waiter if they had cider, and he replied "of course Sir, this is Normandy." Never offered us a menu, and asked us to take a seat... 2 small bottles of cider appeared, which I must say were very nice. We asked for water for our dog, and had to ask twice more before was finally bought one.... Service not great, the guy who served us was too busy having a beer.... Then I picked up the bill... €32. I felt a little foolish for not asking for a menu, but nor was I offered one... typical tourist rip off, had bought us the most expensive one the sold..... lesson learnt, paid the bill and won't return. Make your own mind up as whether this was a nice/fair thing to do...

The tartine gourmand was so good and very reasonable pricing with great view of the water. Cheese and bread with the other condiments was very well prepared and super fresh. Thoroughly enjoyed this meal! Great location and beer selection. Our server was great and will definitely come back here!

We dined here on a hot & sunny day. The restaurant was almost empty of diners. We ordered two dishes. A vegetarian club sandiwch and a vegetarian Croque monsieur. Both dishes were ok, and were served quickly. The service is not top notch, but they managed to respond in a timely manner to our requests. The price is good for two dishes, and we enjoyed our experience. What could have been better is to offer some sort of a complementary tap water when a guest arrives, due to the high temperatures.

Tips for Choosing a Café in Honfleur

Not every good café in Honfleur announces itself with a large sign or a harbour-front terrace. A little local knowledge helps you avoid overpriced tourist traps and find the places where the coffee is treated seriously and the welcome feels genuine. Use these practical tips to match a café to your mood, schedule and budget.

1. Walk One Street Back from the Vieux Bassin

The cafés directly facing the old harbour offer superb views, but prices are often higher and service can feel rushed in peak season. Streets such as Rue Haute, Rue de l’Homme de Bois and the small lanes behind Sainte-Catherine’s Church usually hide quieter spots with better value and more local clientele.

2. Look for Independent Roasters and Barista Training

Ask who supplies the beans or simply watch how the espresso is prepared. The best addresses mention local or specialty roasters, weigh their doses and steam milk carefully. A café that invests in barista training rarely serves a careless cup, even during busy weekends.

3. Check the Pastry Counter Before Ordering

In Normandy, a café is often judged as much by its baked goods as its coffee. Look for freshly made financiers, canelés, shortbread or seasonal fruit tarts rather than pre-packaged industrial cakes. If the pastries are produced in-house or delivered daily from a known local bakery, the café usually cares about overall quality.

4. Time Your Visit Around Local Rhythms

Honfleur changes character throughout the day. Arrive before 10am for a calmer breakfast atmosphere, or after 3pm when the lunch crowd has dispersed. Market mornings, especially around the Sainte-Catherine area, bring extra energy but also busier tables and longer waits.

5. Consider Indoor Seating for Cooler Months

The harbour looks beautiful in winter, but the wind can be sharp. Choose a café with a warm interior, preferably with timber beams, soft lighting or a small fireplace. Many of the town’s most atmospheric rooms are only discovered once you step away from the pavement seating.

6. Support Shops That Treat Solo Visitors Well

A good test of hospitality is how a café handles a single guest with a book or a laptop. The best Honfleur addresses offer a corner table without rushing you, bring water with the coffee and do not make you feel invisible after the first order.

Honfleur rewards travellers who slow down long enough to notice the small things: the sound of a portafilter being knocked, the buttery edge of a fresh croissant, or the particular grey-blue light that settles over the slate roofs in the late afternoon. The right café turns a simple coffee into a memory of place.

Rather than rushing between sights, choose one or two addresses that suit the day’s weather and your energy. Settle in, watch the harbour traffic or the passing locals, and let Honfleur reveal itself at its own gentle pace.
