Nestled along the Seine estuary where the river meets the English Channel, Honfleur is a postcard-perfect Norman town that has inspired painters, poets, and food lovers for centuries. Its narrow cobbled lanes, slate-fronted houses, and the iconic Vieux Bassin harbor create a dining backdrop unlike anywhere else in France. While the town is famous for its impressionist light, it is equally celebrated for a culinary scene that blends maritime bounty with the rich, buttery traditions of Normandy.
Finding the right table in Honfleur can feel overwhelming, especially with the sheer density of brasseries and crΓͺperies clustered around the harbor. Many visitors fall into the trap of settling for a tourist menu with a view, missing out on the authentic kitchens tucked away on side streets or run by passionate local chefs. The difference between a forgettable meal and a transcendent one often comes down to knowing where the locals go and which ingredients are currently in season.
This guide cuts through the noise to highlight the finest Italian dining experiences in the area. You might wonder why one would seek out Italian food in Normandy, but Honfleurβs port history has long welcomed Mediterranean influences, and several Italian chefs have made this town their home. From wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas to handmade pasta dressed with local seafood, these restaurants offer a delightful contrast to the regionβs heavier cream-based classics.
We have evaluated each establishment based on the quality of ingredients, the authenticity of preparation, the warmth of service, and the overall atmosphere. Whether you are looking for a romantic dinner after a gallery walk or a family-friendly spot after a day at the beach, there is an Italian table here for you. We have also considered value for money, as dining in such a prime tourist destination can often come with inflated prices.
The list below is organized to help you quickly identify the best fit for your specific craving and budget. You will find everything from high-end dining rooms with extensive wine lists to unassuming pizzerias where the dough is fermented for 72 hours. Each entry includes a brief description of what makes it stand out, ensuring you can make an informed choice without spending hours reading reviews.
Without further delay, here are the standout Italian restaurants that consistently earn the loyalty of both Honfleur residents and returning visitors.

We noticed this cozy place during a walk around town. We instantly knew we wanted dinner there. We were not disappointed. Great selection of food and more importantly it was delicious. Truly authentic Italian cuisine.
A restaurant experience is more than just the food; it encompasses the overall atmosphere, service, and social interaction and they did it at Da Mario e Monica.

Fantastic and authentic Italian food on a quiet side street in Honfluer. As good as any restaurant you would find in Italy. Great service in a nice setting, whether you dine outside or inside. The ingredients were all high quality and a nice selection of wine. We enjoyed it very much.

Recommended by a friend, we tried this trattoria during our stay in Honfleur. Wow! Our two dishes were so delicious : mushroom ravioli and a Gorgonzola ravioli. And, the tiramisu was magnificent. Mario (co-owner and husband to Chef Maria) was very welcoming. A fantastic experience and an absolute must when in Honfleur!

Very cosy restaurant with nice atmosphere that I have visited already a couple of times.
Very friendly couple that owns it. Most of the times the food was excellent. Yesterday though I experienced that half of my cannelloni was very hot and the other half was almost cold. It had come out of the microwave. I also had to wait a long time for this main course in comparison to other visitors. Disappointed. They can do better.

Nice place to have some non-French cuisine.
We had the Aranchi which were really nice, and a pizza nonna as well as a pizza margarita. Both were good, service was good - nothing to really complain about.
Recommend this place for a bit, especially if you look for kid friendly food.

Pretty good pizza from a wood fire oven. The white pizza was fantastic, with artichoke and chicken. The tomato sauce on the margherita didn't seem incredibly fresh. Good portion size and value.

We chose the restaurant by chance mainly as we didn't want a full blown meal and I really fancied a pizza. When we walked past the whole restaurant to my surprise was empty but looked inviting and well presented. The staff were friendly smiling and welcoming. We sat on the terrace and took a 4 seater for 2 I do like a bit of space, I ordered a Nona pizza without cheese and added onions and mushrooms as I don't eat dairy. My partner ordered the Tagliatelle with pesto and Parma ham. We didn't have to wait long. Both dishes were well cooked but both had issues that doesn't mean we didn't enjoy the experience just that it could have easily achieved 5 stars. The pasta was well cooked and the pesto good quality but the ham had been placed on top in slices ! It's hard to cut the ham on the pasta to distribute it, in an Italian restaurant (yes many years) the ham in pasta is generally found from the unsliceable part of the leg and processed to lardons then cooked and incorporated Italian food is designed to utilise every part to incorporate taste and flavour. The modern twist does not really improve the dish finely shredded and carefully laid on top would enable the client to stir the ham in if the ham is presented naturally.
The pizza was tasty but the dough was quite thick for Napoli and rather chewy this would imply the dough was young and had not been given time to mature. It was early so maybe give a bit of slack but even then it was a bit heavy less dough would have been an improvement even but thin pizzas take experience and the young chef needs to practice and be guided by an experienced hand. The toppings were tasty but to be truthful were not given space to cook a great big pile in the centre 4-5 thick produced as always a wet pizza very slightly undercooked in the centre. The peppers and aubergine I estimate were purchased cooked where a few finely sliced veg evenly spread would have caught some heat the onions appeared on the bottom when placed on the top may have also caramelised slightly I could continue but I did actually quite enjoy the pizza just that it needed refining the clue being the fat edge in Italy is to reduce cost and ingredients if your going to be generous even over generous use the whole pizza and prepare fresh vegetables by air drying or just passing momentarily through the oven before storing and use.
The service was friendly and chatty just slightly un professional we had our order taken but at no time was there a follow up of "is everything ok" we ordered Cider and it was local and delicious slightly sweet maybe a description or knowledge for advice would have made an option available .
Overall we enjoyed our visit my partner stopped me at 3 stars I believe the restaurant is relatively new and of course serving tourists so many options become irrelevant but there's nowhere to hide with reviews everywhere . My advice is sit down Daily discuss the day and service and how in all areas to improve keep on top of it. And please accept any criticism kindly I'm a former owner so often critical and can be ignored if you want ππ«

I've ordered takeaway pizza many times from Amoretto when staying in Honfleur, and thoroughly enjoyed them. Tonight we decided to treat ourselves to dine in.
I made the booking in person and was greeted very cordially.
When we arrived later another very friendly greeting and warm welcome. I chose the Four Seasons Pizza and my partner the veal escalope. Both were freshly made, well presented and thoroughly delicious. Whilst there was only one zero alcohol beer available Holland IPA 0.0 it was excellent. At just over β¬25 each for our meal and drinks I thought it was well worth it.
Next time we're in Honfleur we'll be back.

This is the best place in Honefluer for pizza. Dog friendly and people friendly. I had the Calzone (perhaps the best Iβve had) and my wife had the one with the Barrata cheese center. We had 2 large group dinners here while we were visiting. Night one we had an appetizer course of charcuteries and antipasto, main course of spaghetti bolognese, dessert course of chocolate mousse, and a small serving of lemon cello. All courses were flavorful, right sized portions, and every one in the group cleaned their plates. Night two we had an appetizer of either salmon toast or charcuterie, main dish of veal, and dessert course of tiramisu and a small portion of lemon cello. Again everything was wonderful and every one went home with full bellies. The service was great as we had a group of 50 each night and all the dishes came out in a timely manner. Atmosphere was fine. We were in a large dining room at the back of the restaurant and with 50 people it can get a bit loud in that setting. The house red wine is very good and I highly recommend it.

We ordered here as a takeaway and are glad we did. The food was beautiful. We can highly recommend the Penne alla boscaiola and
Spaghetti di mezza notte.
Both were extremely tasty, great portions and we had plenty for our lunch the next day π₯°
The staff were friendly and seemed very popular with people from different countries looking like they were enjoying their meals.
Nice to be able to grab an Aperol Spritz while waiting for food to cook.

Pizzeria from Hell
Honfleur is full of tourist trap-like restaurants where you almost sit on each other's laps. After searching for 45 minutes, we finally found a pizzeria with 2 seats on the terrace. So we reported to the waitress inside and asked her if it was okay for us to sit outside. After waiting for 20 minutes, it turned out that the waitress had forgotten about us. We opted for the formula starter, main course and dessert and two glasses of beer. We had to wait another 15 minutes for the beer. The starter came without cutlery and napkin, but because we didn't feel like waiting any longer, we just ate it with our fingers. After the starter was finished, the waitress came to ask us again which pizzas we had ordered. We also asked for cutlery and she admitted that she had forgotten it. While waiting for the pizza, we were attacked by dozens of mosquitoes and we fled inside where a table had become available. There were also a lot of mosquitoes inside. The crust of the two pizzas was burnt and the base was tough. The burnt taste was masked by the cheese and salami. It was the worst pizza I have ever eaten. They could do no wrong with the dessert, but even there the almond flakes were burnt. If you want to eat in Honfleur, you are better off going to the local Lidl supermarket for a baguette, some cheese and a bottle of wine. Chances are you will have eaten better than in one of the many tourist traps.

Awesome pizzeria we went to a few days ago, the waiters were all friendly and took care of us for every need we could have.
The pizze were really tasteful, and the pastas were great as well (didn't try them, my brother did and loved it). I took the Fiorentina, that you can see in the picture, and was a pleasure to eat. I can recommend it without a doubt!
It was really nice to stay here and will come again when I'll be around again. On the meantime, hope you can enjoy it as well π

My daughter begged me to put a 1 star rating, but I always try to find the best in places. The food was very delayed and when the salmon and mussels finally came (after an hour) the fish was almost cremated and the mussels were stringy messy globules. I asked the server about the mussels and she limply pointed towards the kitchen. But absolutely no resolution. The atmosphere being a 3 is because of the location. Iβm afraid this place has let down the reputation of food in France. I would avoid if you like foodβ¦

Great pizza and price was very competitive compared to the other restaurants nearby. Honfluer is an expensive place to eat and drink. Itβs a lovely place too.
The La Gabriella was delicious.
Atmosphere is only 3 as we were not allowed to take our dog inside nd the street side seating wasnβt very attractive due to a road barrier next to us.

Iβve never walked out of a restaurant before even placing an order, but this time we had no other choice. The lady who greeted and served us was sarcastic, rude, and borderline insulting. Instead of feeling welcome, we felt belittled by the way she spoke to us. With such unprofessional behavior, the food no longer mattered, and we decided to leave immediately. Customer service reflects the standards of a business, and unfortunately, in this case, it was completely unacceptable. We will not be returning and would not recommend this place.

Cute little restaurant that we enjoyed very much, African and French vibes together, the chef makes a great combination. We were lucky to find a seat for two without reservation. We tried the shrimp tempura, hamburger and the famous upside down. All delicious with combination to great vines.
A must try local option in Honfleur as there are a lot of touristic restaurants which I did not like. It is a dog friendly restaurant and you can see and pet Sissi there, she is really cute. The owners and the service were implacable. If we come to Honfleur again, we will definitely do another visit to this lovely restaurant.

A wonderful dining experience!! Plan ahead and make your reservation a day in advance for one of the best meals of your life. The cook and proprietor- Leo - ensured we had the most amazing dining experience. The ingredients (breads, meats cheeses, wines, etc.) are all thoughtfully chosen and grown/made in the region / close to the restaurant. Do yourself a favor and escape Honfleurβs busy downtown for a unique and delicious meal situated in a beautiful garden thatβs also in the shadow of a trampoline park, which only adds interest and whimsy to the experience. Nice brasserie style food. Their classic burger for 13.50 was very tasty! Also their formule with 19.00 for 2 courses was good also. The poke bowl was nice and the piece of meat was nice too!
The service was so and so as the one waiter started to speak Spanish to me and because i couldn't understand (as i speak Greek and French) I asked her politely to speak French to me. Later she was ignoring me and stopped talking to me! The other waitress instead was friendly and helpful!
Overall, nice food at good prices in a touristy place like Honfleur!

We had a lovely experience at LβAlcyone in Honfleur! The staff were very welcoming and the atmosphere was warm and cozy, with both indoor and outdoor seating available.
We tried βLe Clacosβ β a baked Camembert served with potatoes and charcuterie β and it was absolutely delicious. The portion was generous and it was totally worth it. We also had the mijotΓ© de veau au cidre, which was flavorful.
For dessert, we went with the brioche faΓ§on pain perdu and the tartelette aux pommes β both were sweet and satisfying.
Highly recommended if youβre in Honfleur and looking for a delicious and authentic experience!

Our b&b host recommend L'Alcyone as one of the best casual restaurants Honfleur has to offer so we took the bite and went for it. I'm happy it was well worth the rave as we've only had the best possible service during dinner. Despite the place buzzling with people even at 9pm, we were able to be seated outside with our 3 dogs (we were a group of 6). Our server offered a bowl of water for the dogs right away and he was very accommodating and nice.
I knew mussels were a bit off season so i was not expecting them to be their usual size. Despite the smaller size, the mussels we were served were fresh and was flavorful. It was cooked just right and the servings were hefty. The Poulette version was hands down my favorite. The Camembert one was good but i felt it was too overpowering and can be a bit too overwhelming after a while to my taste
The star of the show was definitely the Honfleur Stew! π It had just the right amount of broth and flavor from the seafood and you are served with bread on the side to soak the soup with.
I was overall happy with my experience in this restaurant and it definitely lived up to its glowing reviews! π

Great atmosphere, service and quality of food. We had our first dinner in Honfleur there and were charmed by the setting of the restaurant near the old wooden church and the elaborate menu with a lot of seafood choices.

Although we arrived earlier than our reservation time, we finished dining at 3:30 p.m. The staff served us with great patience and never gave the impression of being in a hurry to close. This is a restaurant that combines both delicious food and warmth.

Cosy restaurant that serves great food and friendly service.
We went with the fixed menu, which gave us some great options. A few tables around us had seafood platters, which looked amazing.

Went here for dinner just from the glowing reviews ive seen of it online! We asked to be seated in the heated outdoor dining area as we had three dogs with us and they happily obliged. We were served some light snacks while waiting for our meal.
The place was packed at 7:30pm and if you want to be seated inside, calling to reserve a table is highly recommended. The only downside of a popular restaurant is the wait time, but it is well worth it! π Both the dishes we ordered were definitely impressive. The fish were cooked still tender and moist. It was interesting to have tagliatelle veggies to go with the fish! Ingredients were fresh and delicious. Prices are on the above average side, but i was very happy with my overall experience!
Sadly the dessert was a big lackluster and was nothing particularly special. It almost taste as if it were store bought and plated. In any case, despite this dish, everything was lovely and i had a pleasant experience and still recommend this restaurant!
Despite the crowd, the service didn't suffer and the staff were courteous and friendly, even offering you an english menu if needed.

We found this spot on our way to Honfleur. Welcome us and the dog for a walk in booking. Sat in the courtyard area which is beautifully decorated. Our waitress spoke some English and was super friendly!
Burgers and chocolate mouse was 10/10! Hit the spot as we were starving!! Would definitely go back! Skip the tourist spots on the water!

The menu is mostly burgers, so vegetarian and vegan should probably go elsewhere.
For the meat and cheese lovers, this is your stop. Calling their items burgers doesn't make it justice. These burgers are elevated, rich and decadent. Probably one of the best burger I ever had. The amount of cheese on it was almost sinful. The price goes with it, at 20β¬ the burgers are not cheap, but well worth it.
The fries were also good.
The service was great. The restaurant offers limited seating inside and some seating outside. We were there at the opening and a line was forming, which says quite a lot about the popularity of the place. The inside is cute.
I happily recommend it and will be back if I get a chance.

As many others have said, the burgers here are very good indeed. Very unique too - interesting combinations on offer that most first time visitors won't have tried before. The cheesecake is also something very special - this is my favourite dessert and I've eaten a lot of good cheesecakes in my time. This one was excellent - so good I could have ordered another. Highly recommend.

It was amazing here.
When we first arrived it took them ages to even notice us waiting to be seated, they just walked past us.
However once we were seated they were quick to ask for what we wanted and we were served our food swiftly.
The food was exceptional, the burgers were unreal and delicious, with the fries also being tasty. For dessert I had the chocolate mousse which was delicious and my dad had the cheesecake, which he said was unbelievably good. If I could I would give the food a 6 out of 5.
The atmosphere was nice, with nice seating.
Overall it was very nice here and I would recommend coming.
Tips for Choosing the Perfect Italian Restaurant in Honfleur
While the list above provides a curated selection of the best tables in town, a few practical strategies can elevate your dining experience even further. Honfleurβs dining culture is distinct, blending French service standards with international cuisine. Understanding how to navigate reservations, timing, and menu selection will ensure you get the most out of your evening, especially during the busy summer months when the harbor is packed with tourists.
Book ahead, especially for dinner. Honfleur is one of Normandyβs most visited destinations, and the best Italian restaurants often fill up days in advance during peak season. A same-day walk-in is rarely successful for prime dinner slots. Call or book online a few days before your visit, and if you are traveling in July or August, consider booking a week ahead. This is particularly true for smaller, family-run trattorias with limited seating.
Look beyond the Vieux Bassin for better value. Restaurants directly facing the harbor pay a premium for their location, and that cost is often reflected in the menu. While the view is lovely, you will typically find more authentic cooking, friendlier service, and lower prices just one or two streets back. Wander up Rue Haute or into the Sainte-Catherine district to discover hidden gems where the focus is on the food rather than the foot traffic.
Ask about seafood pasta specials. Honfleurβs Italian chefs have access to some of the finest mussels, scallops, and langoustines in France. The best kitchens incorporate these local products into their Italian dishes. Instead of defaulting to a classic carbonara or bolognese, ask if there is a fresh seafood linguine or a clam spaghetti using locally harvested shellfish. This is the perfect way to enjoy Italian technique with Norman terroir.
Check the pizza oven before ordering. A real Italian pizzeria in Honfleur should have a wood-fired or high-temperature electric oven visible from the dining room. If you do not see an oven or the menu has more than twenty pizza varieties with heavy French toppings, it is likely a tourist trap. Authentic pizzerias keep their menus short, their crusts blistered, and their ingredients simple.
Embrace the slower French-Italian pace. Service in Honfleur, even in Italian restaurants, follows the French rhythm of dining. Meals are meant to be savored, and you should not expect the fast table turnover common in North American restaurants. Relax, order a glass of Italian wine or a local cider, and enjoy the unhurried atmosphere. If you are in a rush, let your server know politely at the start of the meal.
Honfleurβs charm lies in its ability to surprise you, and its Italian dining scene is a perfect example of that. By choosing a restaurant from this list and following the tips above, you are setting yourself up for a meal that honors both the soul of Italy and the spirit of Normandy. Whether you end your evening with a limoncello or a glass of Calvados, you will leave with a deeper appreciation for this remarkable port town.
