12 Best Family-Friendly Restaurants in Perpignan

Finding a table that keeps both the kids and the adults happy can be one of the trickiest parts of a family holiday. In Perpignan, however, the vibrant Catalan culture naturally lends itself to a warm, relaxed, and welcoming dining scene. The city’s blend of French and Spanish influences means late lunches, shared plates, and lively atmospheres are the norm rather than the exception.

While Perpignan is famous for its rich culinary heritage, not every bistro is equipped to handle strollers, picky eaters, or the occasional toddler meltdown. Fortunately, many local restaurateurs understand that family time is sacred and have tailored their spaces and menus accordingly. From shaded terraces perfect for a game of "I Spy" to menus designed specifically for smaller appetites, the city offers a wealth of options.

This guide focuses on venues that excel not only in food quality but also in practical hospitality. We have prioritized establishments that offer high chairs, accessible restrooms, and quick service to keep hunger-related fussiness at bay. Furthermore, we have looked for menus that strike a balance between authentic Catalan cuisine and familiar favorites that children universally enjoy.

Choosing the right spot means you can trade a stressful dinner rush for a leisurely meal where everyone feels comfortable. Whether you are looking for a quick bite between sightseeing at the Castillet or a relaxed dinner after exploring the Palace of the Kings of Majorca, Perpignan has a table waiting for you.

Below, you will find a curated list of venues that consistently deliver a stress-free experience for parents and a delicious one for the whole family. These spots have been selected for their generous portions, friendly staff, and the kind of casual atmosphere where a dropped fork doesn’t cause a scene.

What an amazing place! We came here for crêpes — both savory and sweet — and everything was absolutely delicious. The cheese crêpe was so tasty, and the Nutella one was pure heaven. The restaurant itself is beautiful — it feels like stepping inside a dollhouse! Every corner is colorful, fun, and perfectly decorated. The atmosphere is cozy, the service is kind, and the food is unforgettable. French comfort food at its best. Definitely one of the most special meals we had in Perpignan. ❤️🇫🇷

This is such a lovely and whimsical little restaurant! The staff is friendly and the food is delicious. Never got food delivered to the table this fast. Nothing to complain about, love it, especially the decorations!

My husband and I are currently on a six-week honeymoon and have eaten at some wonderful restaurants along the way, but La Famille has blown everything else out of the water. Quite simply, it is one of the best meals we have ever had — and between us we dine out extensively, both at home in London and through frequent work travel around the world. Everything was faultless. The food was exceptional, the wine list inspired, the ambiance utterly magical and the atmosphere warm and alive in a way that’s hard to put into words. Every single detail felt considered. If you are even thinking about coming here, stop thinking and just book. We cannot recommend it highly enough. A genuine 10/10.

Amazing food, very rich and deep flavours "jus de viande" and "jus de poisson". Fideua is an absolute must Friendly staff Decent Wine list

Dropped in for Sunday lunch and had a wonderful meal. This restaurant serves a fine dining menu, with no pretentious gimmicks. Just amazing food made out in the open by people who clearly care about what they do.
Jenifer M★★★★★
Had a beautiful menu lunch. The food was excellent with much intention. The service was kind and the atmosphere was relaxing and not pretentious. While many restaurants in the area have high ratings we would return without hesitation.
Marlene Green★★★★☆
Oh la la! What a feast. My dad chose this restaurant purely based on the atmosphere. Kind of familiar-bohemian, very French from the '30s, in the most authentic way. We had zero expectations, and our minds were blown away by the food. Each dish was unique — lots and lots of flavors, with incredible sauces and textures made from just a few ingredients. This is top cuisine. The house orange wine was exquisite as well. A very pleasant surprise to find this place. I will be recommending it.

Lovely Food , home made burgers, and a local Beer. Staff really helpful and friendly. (my very poor French and her slightly better English). Great place for lunch, the small street gives you shade if sitting outside. Merci!

Amazing place! The food was absolutely delicious. Service is great too. Our French is far from good, so they helped us navigate the menu. We ordered brunch menu, and they also made some custom adjustments for us. Highly recommended!

I can't begin to even describe how much I love this place. The staff was the sweetest people ever. The food was absolutely lovely. Makes me want to take the trip all over again just to eat here again. Highly recommend for those who's seeking a comforting and tasty meal. The burgers are great and the steak is tender. I would've loved to try more dishes too but the day we came they were previously busy with lunch rush so there wasn't any lunch menu options left.

What a lovely experience. We came here for our birthday and it was so nice. The food was delicious. We loved that the menu was not complicated. Great wine menu. The mozzarella cheese plate was made in house and incredible! We tried a few appetizers and a couple mains. It was well worth it.

I had an hour or so to grab a quick lunch and I decided to go here because it was close to my B&B. The reservation process was flawless, they reacted very fast. My reserved table was just perfect, in the shade of an olive tree. The food was excellent. I had a tartare with fries, a glass of white wine and a café gourmand as dessert. The riz-au-lait was divine! No complaints at all! The only remarks I wanna give: wipe the table with a moist cloth before serving the food (my table was quite sticky). The guy who brought me my food was a jolly fellow, very friendly. The girls who were working that noon could smile a bit more, one was actually quite grumpy… The boss was a nice guy, someone you could enjoy a pint with! Bottom line: would definitely visit again!

Beautiful location out of town, lovely country food, generous portions, friendly hosts. The service suits the establishment, if you are looking for American service, go to NY! We loved the food and place!
Arlene Conn★★★★★
The restaurant has a great vibe, beautiful setting, helpful, friendly and efficient staff, and great food and wine. We also met the owner and he is so gracious and kind. We are staying at his small hotel/guest house in Perpignan (Mas Latour Lavail) about 20 minutes away, where there is a winery that he also operates. Our French being limited, staff went out of their way to help and never made us feel sheepish for not being able to communicate in French. We both had duck terrine which was phenomenal and the accompanying bread was everything that is wonderful about France. We both had lamb chops, one with the best mashed potatoes we have ever tasted (so buttery) and the other with amazing frites. Our wine was exceptional and, by American standards, so affordable. You choose your wine from the winery so it’s similar to paying what you would pay in a wine store. The outdoor seating is set in a lovely garden with rustic French touches. It really felt special and magical. We enjoyed our evening immensely.
Tue Nygaard★★★★★
For the price a simply marvellous place. Great ambiance, great service, fantastic wine and great food. We were very satisfied after visiting and will highly recommend to go for a great uncomplicated meal and pair it with some of the many great wines, both local, but also from other regions of France

A wonderful place with a charming French atmosphere that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a cozy café in Paris. The warm red tones and beautiful décor create a welcoming and elegant ambiance. The food was absolutely amazing—every dish was full of flavor, beautifully presented, and clearly made with care. The combination of the cozy vibe, great service, and outstanding food made for a fantastic experience. I would definitely recommend this place and can’t wait to visit again!

All round an excellent place in Perpignan. We were lucky to have some live music while we were there. We ordered from the daily menu and was not disappointed! Save room for dessert!

Incredible place overall. The food is a 10/10. I went with my partner for dinner and we definitely want to come back another time. We recommend trying the mushroom terrine with truffle as a starter. And you absolutely have to try the chocolate fondant for dessert. We want to highlight Kereen’s service — she literally made us feel at home 🤍
Michael Kearney★★★★★
Situated in a shady alley with a little breeze, this was the coolest place we could find when trying to escape the 38c heat! And what a lucky find. We had the fish of the day and it was delicious. Our waitress Kareen was really lovely as were the chatty locals. We were there most of the afternoon and honestly we could have stayed there all evening. If you are in Perpingnon, I highly recommend you eat and drink here.

Wonderful restaurant with a lovely outdoor seating area opposite the cathedral. Fantastic food, good price for set menu. Lovely staff and the waiter spoke excellent English and helped me a lot. It will be my first choice next time I am in perpignan.
Sarah Elida Denever★★★★★
We are two foreigners who ate inside and the staff were very friendly and kind. They noticed I was afraid of loud sounds and offered to make the music milder. The food was very good. I recommend in particular the “gaufre a la courgette” and “effiloché de porc 20h” and “cannelé” which really stand out. The porc is flavourful, soft and has a very slight caramel aftertaste; it is truly excellent. Has to be among my top 3 or top 2 of best porc I have ever eaten in my life and I go to restaurants a lot, all over the world. The restaurant also only feature local wines on their card. The owner recommended us their local wines “vin doux naturels” (be warned, they are sweet). They even offer to match the wine you will drink to the dish, which is welcome when you are ignorant about sweet wine. And the owner seems very knowledgeable and passionate about these wines, which was a treat for me. I learned a lot. You can buy bottles there at the same price as a wine shop, which I did because I’m not sure I will be able to get my hands on this wine very easily where I live in Belgium. The prices matches the quality of the food. The plates are not very large, but if you take the 3-course meal, the average man will be perfectly satiated. Overall a great culinary experience. I recommend to those seeking good food and to learn a little bit more about the local cuisine.
Or Giladi★★★★★
The lunch menu is excellent value for money, considering the pleasant outdoor location and the food quality. Make sure you order the cannelé for dessert - the waiter comes to prepare it at your table

We came here for lunch. We ordered the Arancini trio, Fried artichokes, Mortadella salad and the Pinza Reina. Overall it was good. A few things that could be improved, less salt on the artichokes, it was overwhelmingly salted . The arancini trio was supposed to be Ragu, truffle and Cacio e Pepe . We didn’t get the ragu one, and weren’t told about it. It was perfectly cooked though, a side of marinara sauce would have been nice to accompany it. The arugula salad and pinza were tasty although, I didn’t get a side of focaccia as listed on the menu.

What a lovely find!! Off the street and easy to walk past but a lovely place so nicely decorated. The food was excellent- tuna pretty rare but tasty and maigre(corvina) fantastic, excellent chips too. Service was very good and helpful
Simon Copson★★★★★
Wow. What a fantastic dining experience. Found Maison Dahlia whilst wandering around some of the winding streets of central Perpignan. Both my wife and I fancied a burger and noticed a ‘pink burger’ on the menu. This was down to the colour of the roll and not the state of the burger! Our server, Quentin, was amazing and speaking really good English, he was able to answer our questions about wine choices and the menu. We settled on a local dry white wine which was amazing and complemented our meal perfectly. I ordered Arancini as a starter and my wife ordered guacamole and hummus with pita bread. Two large arancini arrived for me and they were perfect as was my wife’s starter. We both had burgers for mains that were served with some fantastic fries. They were cooked exactly as we wanted and my mother not mistake was to double up as I certainly didn’t need a second burger. The burgers themselves were absolutely delicious and both my wife and I agreed they were easily one of the best burgers we had ever had. My only regret is that by ordering an extra burger I had no room for dessert! If you as passing by this place then pop it, you certainly won’t be disappointed.
Frederik Kabel★★★★★
A fantastic place with a wonderful French atmosphere that feels both cozy and lively. The citron beers were absolutely amazing—refreshing, unique, and the perfect complement to the experience. The staff were exceptional: friendly, attentive, and always happy to help with recommendations. The combination of the charming French vibe, great drinks, and outstanding service made this a memorable visit. I highly recommend stopping by if you’re looking for a relaxed place with excellent hospitality

A good friend of mine took me to this new great restaurant located at Perpignan’s center. They serve original dishes and have a large assortment of cocktails. I had the one with mezcal (pictured). It was exotic and refreshing (some people may find mezcal beverages a little bit dry though). We shared a few plates. Everything was delicious but my favorite ones were the Burrata and fried chicken. To improve: Their desserts. They were good but nothing extraordinary. Especially the Choux Protifelores.

Le Figuier is a beautiful, intimate, and romantic restaurant with a charming atmosphere. The staff was very kind, and the wine selection was exceptional. The salad we had was beautifully presented and delicious. Unfortunately, our main dish — the meat with mashed potatoes — was undercooked, and despite asking the staff to fix it, it remained largely raw. This was uncomfortable, especially considering the price. We ended up eating around the uncooked parts. While the ambiance and service are excellent, the issues with the main dish prevented the meal from being fully enjoyable.

Beautiful place in the heart of Perpignan, excellent food
Samantha Bruner★★★★★
My partner and I travelled through Europe over the month of October. This was easily in the top 3 meals we had over that time. The staff is exceptional and the food is unbelievable. We shared 2 starters, seasonal salad and then shared a main entree of the beef shank special. It was so delicious! Finished our meal with the chocolate lava cake and an espresso. Such a wonderful way to end our meal and our trip. Would love to come back to Le Figuier again so we will add Perpignan to our travels in the future.
Ahmad Ali★★★★★
They serve tasty delicious food here that is also pleasant to the eye. Not many options to choose from but there is a good variety and there was some vegetarian choices. The restaurant is on a quite square with all the tables outside. This creates a chill out vibe away from the crowded city center. Typically prices are high as expected from a restaurant in the city center.
Miriam Shindler★★★★★
Wonderful restaurant with great staff and array of dishes. Tucked away in a little courtyard with a great atmosphere. Kids meal is real food but good portions. I had the vegetarian plate which came with a mix of foods. Would definitely recommend.

Tips for Dining Out with Kids in Perpignan

To ensure your family meals are as enjoyable as possible, it helps to understand the local dining rhythms. Perpignan operates on a Spanish-influenced schedule, which can be an advantage for families with jet-lagged children or those used to eating later in the day. The following tips will help you navigate the local scene like a pro, ensuring smooth service and happy bellies.

1. Embrace the Later Lunch Hours
Unlike some parts of France where kitchens close sharply at 2:00 PM, Perpignan often serves lunch until 2:30 PM or 3:00 PM. This is excellent news for families who lose track of time sightseeing. However, dinner starts late, with most kitchens not opening until 7:30 PM. If you have very young children who eat early, look for brasseries or cafes that offer "service continu" (non-stop service) throughout the afternoon.

2. Look for the "Menu Enfant" but Ask for Half Portions
While many family-friendly spots offer a dedicated kids’ menu (often featuring steak haché or pasta), don’t be afraid to ask for a "demi-portion" of an adult dish. Catalan cuisine is highly shareable, and many restaurants are happy to plate a smaller serving of grilled fish or chicken for a child at a reduced price. This is a great way to introduce kids to local flavors without wasting food.

3. Leverage the Outdoor Terraces
Perpignan is blessed with a sunny climate, and the city is designed for outdoor living. The best family restaurants often have large, pedestrianized terraces or shaded courtyards. These spaces provide a natural buffer for noise and give children a bit of visual stimulation. Always request a table on the edge of the terrace if you have a stroller to keep walkways clear.

4. Skip the Tourist Traps Near the Castillet
While the immediate vicinity of the Castillet is picturesque, the restaurants here often cater to a transient crowd with inflated prices and less attentive service. Walk just a few blocks into the Saint-Jean or Saint-Mathieu quarters. You will find authentic neighborhood bistros where locals dine with their children, offering better value and a warmer reception for families.

5. Time Your Visit with the "Goûter"
The French tradition of the "goûter" (the 4:00 PM snack) is a lifesaver for parents. If you plan to have a late dinner, stop at a local patisserie around 4:00 PM for a pastry or a crepe to tide the kids over. This prevents a blood-sugar crash while you wait for the restaurant kitchens to open at 7:30 PM.

6. Check Accessibility Before You Book
Perpignan’s historic center is beautiful, but many buildings date back centuries and feature narrow doorways or steps. If you are navigating with a large pram or require step-free access, call ahead to confirm the restaurant has a ground-floor entrance and accessible facilities. Many modern brasseries outside the medieval core offer easier access.

Exploring the culinary landscape of Perpignan with children is an exercise in patience and discovery, but the rewards are immense. The city’s inherent warmth extends to its youngest visitors, making it a far more accommodating destination than many larger French cities. By choosing a venue that values hospitality over formality, you allow yourself the chance to actually taste your food while the kids enjoy theirs.

Ultimately, a family meal in Perpignan is about more than just nutrition; it is a cultural experience. Watching the locals interact with their children over a long lunch teaches visitors about the Catalan pace of life. With a little planning and the right restaurant choice, dining out can become the highlight of your family’s trip rather than a logistical hurdle.
