12 Best Pizza Spots in Carcassonne

Perched on a hilltop in the Occitanie region, Carcassonne is a breathtaking medieval fortress city that draws visitors from around the world. While its double-walled fortifications and fairy-tale turrets dominate the skyline, the modern lower town, known as the Bastide Saint-Louis, holds its own vibrant secrets. Between exploring historic ramparts and wandering cobblestone lanes, you will inevitably work up a serious appetite.

The culinary scene here is a delightful reflection of the broader Languedoc region, rich in rustic flavors and generous hospitality. Unlike the more tourist-trap-heavy areas directly inside the fortress walls, many of the best dining experiences offer authentic regional cooking without compromising on quality. From wood-fired pizzas to gourmet French-Italian fusions, the city caters to every craving.

Pizza holds a special place in the hearts of locals and travelers alike, offering a comforting, shareable meal after a long day of sightseeing. Whether you prefer a thin, crispy Roman-style base or a thicker, chewy Neapolitan crust, Carcassonne’s pizzerias deliver impressive variety. The best spots balance high-quality ingredients with the laid-back atmosphere that defines southern France.

Because Carcassonne is split between the historic Cité and the newer lower town, your perfect slice might be hiding in either district. Many visitors stick to the restaurants lining the Place Carnot, but venturing a few streets away often reveals hidden gems favored by residents. Knowing where to go ensures you spend less time wandering and more time enjoying your meal.

This guide focuses on the highest-rated and most beloved pizza spots in the city, prioritizing flavor, ingredient quality, and overall dining experience. We have considered everything from casual takeaway counters to elegant sit-down trattorias. You will find options suitable for families, couples, and solo travelers looking for a reliable bite.

Below, we have curated a list of the best places to satisfy your pizza cravings in this historic city. Each entry offers something unique, ensuring that whether you are dining under the stars near the old bridge or grabbing a quick slice before catching a train, you are in for a treat.

What a perfect find for pizza. Not a fancy restaurant, but not a cheap fast food place. Great prices compared to most places in the old town. If food is needed without the restaurant vibe, this is it. The lady was so cheerful and helpful. We had the large pizza which will do 3 people for around €22. The food was delicious and had indoor and outdoor seats. Definitely recommend.

One of the best pizzas Locals use it and recommend it.Maria is delightful and if you cannot finish all in one sitting then you can bring it home for later...

What a great find ! The pizza was delicious! Accompanied with a nice italian beer hit the right spot. We ended beautifully with an espresso (properly prepared). The service was excellent. I'd highly recommend pizza ð caffè.

Best pizza in Carcasonne, maybe in France. Very tasty, light pizza with fresh ingredients, crunchy, no black spots, just goodness. The owner who is very nice also has italian beers which accomodate nicely with the pizza. I have been there two times in four days and if I was from Carcasonne, this would be my spot! Greetings from Belgium!

I was told there was a master of his art nearby and we had to try it. With such high expectations disappointment should have been predetermined but that was not the case. The place was clean and we'll decorated with a certain charme. The staff was extremely polite and helpful with requests like the need for an English menu. The real reason for 5 stars though was the food of course. The pizza I ordered was just bliss for anyone that loves meat and strong flavours. A fresh still liquid egg in the middle of vegetables and hand made meatballs was all I could ever ask for. The pizzas we're not only made with love but also skill as the crust was not just cooked perfectly but included a tiny knot with an olive simply for style reasons. We also tried some of the alcohol free cocktails which were definetly not your standard fruit juice mix making them a hit! The Panacotta was great but did not compare to the pizza. Price wise the pizza while slightly on the more expensive side are definitely worth it. You do get your money worth here tenfold and the pizzas are more than large enough to feed anyone that is hungry. With one drink you should expect around 20-25€ on average per person here. Make it 30 if you intend on having dessert. We also got a free digestive at the end which made for a very wholesome end. If I could I would leave 6 stars.
Chantal Perkins★★★★★
Another excellent dinner experience at the best pizzeria in Carcassonne, friendly and professional pleasure for your taste buds and your eyes! You don't believe me? Look at my photos!
Cyril D★★★★★
What an amazing place! Generous pizza, creative and tasty, with a wide variety of quality ingredients and the best dough. It's not just your regular pizza, but more like a work of Art. The place is stylish, warm and cozy, the staff very welcoming, and you can tell the chef is going for the extra mile with every little details, greeting each customer and pouring his heart in every pizza. Even the toilets are awesome in this place. My only regret is that we didn't stay long enough in town to go back for another dinner.
Maria F. Jarquín★★★★★
It was very nice... but so many files!
Andy Kennedy★★★★★
Great pizza restaurant well worth the walk from the centre of Carcassonne. Unique approach where high quality fresh ingredients are assembled on cooked bases and then served without further heating. Friendly staff and a personal “thank you” from chef Rabah himself made for a great experience. Thoroughly recommended.

Google maps sent us to the back entrance but the chef was very nice and walked us through his kitchen to a table. What a treat to see all of the dough rising on the counter. The food was great and the server was very patient with our broken French.
Sarah CRB★★★★★
Delicious pizzas, very good cocktails, and lovely service. Plus reasonably priced! Would only suggest the addition of a salad or other possible sides to go with the delicious pizzas.
Sel★★★★★
Absolutely delightful. The French love pizza, but unfortunately often get it wrong. The dough thickness and consistency is often lacking. This place is hands down the best pizza I ever had in France. The young lady serving us was delightful, so welcoming and friendly. Our pizzas were superb in every regard. The only issue is that the map pin is incorrect, the restaurant is actually on the main street, not in the back street! Second time here and all of the above still stands. The pizzas are superb, the staff lovely, and the restaurant great.
Amelia★★★★★
Stopped here for lunch on a day trip. The Italian food (pizza, yes, but much else besides) was excellent and well-priced. The service was warm and patient, even with our very limited French. We were the only foreigners in an otherwise local scene. Highly recommended.

Amazing pizza, the best I ate in France so far. Service super friendly and we waited less than 10 minutes for two pizzas. Everything was fresh and good quality.

Good pizza. The goat's cheese with honey and walnuts is particularly delicious - if you like goat's cheese. The Turamisu is also excellent. The service is attentive and friendly. Many thanks for a lovely evening.

I had an amazing experience at this pizzeria! The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was top-notch. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made me feel welcome from the moment I walked in. Every detail, from the perfectly cooked pizza to the cozy atmosphere, was spot on. If I could give 6 out of 5 stars, I would! I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great meal and fantastic service. I can't wait to come back!
Raymond Chiu★★★★★
Random stop for pizza just as a break from French food, and it was one of the most authentic pizza's I've had. My whole family loved it. Crispy, thin crust and it tasted wonderful. And at a very reasonable price! Staff was really friendly!
Sel★★★★☆
Really good and tasty pizzas in a very convenient location for Place Carnot. Chilli oil out of a packet was a little bit disappointing however, come on, you can do better than that! Bathroom was fairly clean. Lady running the place was very pleasant and welcoming. Overall a nice pizza place, although not the best in Carcassonne right now.
Brent McTavish★★★★★
One of the best pizzas in Carcassonne. So good that I bought a second Pizza to takeaway. Their lunch menu (Monday to Friday) is incredible value too. Highly recommend for good honest food at a very reasonable price and just off the beautiful square, Place Carnot.

Really excellent food served with a smile and in at least 4 languages! I had an excellent meal. It did get very busy just after I arrived so some bits of the meal took a while to arrive. But when on holiday.

Made last minute reservations with no problem. Plenty space. Ate outdoors. Had the specials... they were very special... delicious as per photos😍 Friendly servers.

Hidden away within the stunning medieval walls of Carcassonne, we stumbled across this absolute gem of a restaurant while exploring the historic city, and it completely exceeded our expectations. We decided to try the chef’s special snails and the black pudding salad, and both dishes were phenomenal. While the snail dish appeared deceptively small at first glance, the kitchen certainly didn’t scrimp on the portions—it was packed with snails and surprisingly hearty and filling. The black pudding salad was equally impressive, cooked to absolute perfection and bursting with rich, savory flavor. In fact, it was so good that my partner completely forgot about his beer while eating it! We were enjoying the experience so much—and the food was so super delicious—that we completely forgot to take any photos. If you are wandering around the walled city and want an authentic, unforgettable meal, make sure you track this place down.

Went there at 1:15 pm today. Restaurant was supposed to be open till 2 pm. It was half full. The owner refused to serve us. Said they were closed I requested for a single pizza and told him we had driven 20 min to get there and had gotten off the motorway , just for this. He was very very rude and did not obliged or even bat an eyelid when I showed him his hours on Google. Horrible customer service service

Very rude and offensive staff when we had technical issues. We realise it’s not their fault but no one should be spoken to like that. Refused to speak French slowly when we didn’t understand and did t try and understand us. I’d definitely avoid.

Amazing food. The pizza takes a long time to prepare, but it's worth it! The Service is really nice, and the overall climate is amazing.

I ordered a pizza coming off a late train and it was great. The guy in the kiosk is a character and works hard with his two double ovens in such a small space. He told me it was a 35 mins wait and that he was bang on with his timing and that was also allowing me to change my order once I had worked out all the different ingredients from my limited French to English. I filled the wait time watching the finishing runners of the Grand Raid De Cathares. I highly recommend this Pizza Hut I had the Pepini and it was very nice with plenty of cheese. I was hungry but couldn’t finish it all as I was full and that’s unusual for me. ✔️

I’m giving these guys five stars because of how friendly they are AND they are open on a Saturday night after 10 pm. The food is decent - we had the pizza and it hit the spot. This is a fast pizza place, you need to set some expectations for that. I would order again before I would order Pizza Hut.

This is probably the nearest and the best Halal Restaurant anywhere near the old cite or the medieval fort. The price was also not so bad. We love the rice with mince meat and also some turkish cake or something. They even make our meals spicier because they know we eat really spicy foods. Hope we can get back here one day.

Great restaurant and lovely people. Not really a taco but was still delicious. Don’t expect to get a taco in south France. It got something closer to a gyro, that was incredible. They use some special house sauce that is just divine. Recommend to anyone looking for a late night snack. Drinks were also cold.

Essential Tips for Enjoying Pizza in Carcassonne

To make the most of your culinary journey, it helps to understand the local dining culture and logistics. Carcassonne is a popular destination, and navigating its restaurant scene with a bit of insider knowledge can significantly improve your experience. These practical tips will help you avoid common pitfalls, secure the best tables, and eat like a local rather than a tourist.

Book ahead during the summer months. Carcassonne is packed from June to September, and the best pizzerias fill up quickly, especially on weekends. A quick phone call or online reservation can save you from a long wait or having to settle for a lower-quality tourist menu.

Be mindful of French dining hours. Many kitchens close between lunch and dinner service, typically from 2:30 PM to 7:00 PM. If you are hungry in the mid-afternoon, look for a spot advertising "service continu" or plan your sightseeing around the standard meal windows.

Look for wood-fired ovens. The phrase "au feu de bois" on a menu or storefront indicates a wood-fired oven, which usually means a superior crust with a smoky char. These pizzas cook quickly at high heat, locking in flavor and giving you an authentic Italian-style base.

Don’t ignore the Bastide Saint-Louis. While dining inside the medieval Cité is atmospheric, prices are often inflated for the view. The lower town, particularly around Place Carnot and Rue Barbès, is where many locals eat, offering better value and often more authentic recipes.

Try a regional topping. While classic Margherita and pepperoni are safe bets, look for pizzas featuring local ingredients like Roquefort cheese, duck breast (magret de canard), or local goat cheese. These regional twists give you a taste of Occitanie while satisfying your pizza craving.

Check for takeaway options. If you are staying in a rental or want to enjoy a picnic with a view of the ramparts, many pizzerias offer efficient takeaway service. Grabbing a pizza to go and eating it on the Pont Vieux or along the Aude riverbank is a memorable, budget-friendly experience.

The beauty of Carcassonne is that it rewards those who explore with an open mind and an empty stomach. Whether you choose a bustling terrace in the heart of the Bastide or a quiet corner near the Porte Narbonnaise, the city’s pizza scene offers comfort and quality in equal measure. By venturing beyond the obvious tourist stops, you will discover the true flavors that make this region of France so special.

After your meal, take a slow stroll through the illuminated medieval streets. The combination of excellent food and the magical atmosphere of Carcassonne at night is something you will remember long after the last slice is gone.
