10 Best Vegetarian Restaurants in Dijon

Dijon may be world-famous for mustard and boeuf bourguignon, but the capital of Burgundy has quietly cultivated a vibrant plant-based and vegetable-forward dining scene. Over the last decade, the city has moved beyond simple salads and side dishes to embrace creative, globally inspired vegetarian cuisine. Whether you are a strict vegetarian, a flexitarian, or simply looking to lighten your palate between wine tastings, Dijon offers a surprisingly diverse array of meat-free options.

The local food philosophy in Burgundy has always been deeply rooted in the quality of the soil. This agricultural heritage means chefs in Dijon have direct access to some of the finest seasonal produce in France, from heirloom carrots and leeks to Époisses-adjacent farmhouse cheeses and Burgundy truffles. As a result, vegetarian dining here is rarely an afterthought; it is often a celebration of the region’s terroir, allowing vegetables and legumes to take center stage.

Navigating the French dining scene as a vegetarian has historically been a challenge, but Dijon’s youthful university population and international tourism have driven significant change. Today, you will find dedicated vegan cafes, upscale bistros offering dedicated vegetarian menus, and fusion spots that borrow flavors from the Middle East, Asia, and the Mediterranean. The city proves that you do not need meat to experience the richness of French gastronomy.

This guide focuses on establishments that prioritize vegetarian dishes, whether they are 100% plant-based or simply offer exceptional, well-thought-out options alongside meat. We have considered flavor, ingredient sourcing, atmosphere, and consistency to bring you a list that caters to different budgets and occasions. From quick lunch spots to elegant dinner venues, there is something here for every kind of traveler and local foodie.

When selecting these restaurants, we prioritized places that treat vegetables as the main event rather than a substitution. This means looking for house-made seitan, innovative uses of lentils, perfectly roasted seasonal root vegetables, and dairy-based dishes that highlight the incredible cheeses of the region. We also valued restaurants with clear menu labeling, as transparency is crucial for diners with dietary restrictions.

Without further ado, here are the ten best vegetarian-friendly restaurants currently defining the green dining scene in Dijon.

Very cozy with dishes full.of inte se flavors. Desserts are incredible, as well as the savory dishes. Exceptional (and good portions too)

This is "ashram food" in that it is simple, home-cooked, and vegetarian/vegan. It is exactly what the body needs to recover from the fatty foods of France like cheese, beef, etc. Every dish is delicious in it's simplicity and authenticity. Good selection of non-alcoholic drinks. Friendly staff. Atmosphere is cozy and funky.

I am an Indian who wanted to eat good Indian food especially cause of Diwali, our festival. And I came across this place serving pure vegetarian food. The host is a kind gentleman and offered herbal tea. A thali and lassi filled my heart with love. The ambience was great, close to home. Next day I again went to his place and took Samosas to go which he gave for free out of kindness. It is a beautiful place with beautiful people and amazing food!

Pretty good and unusual food. Not what you expect from a indian restaurant, more like a western fusion. All dishes are vegetarian or vegan. Reasonable prices and fresh food. Friendly service and good atmosphere. Recommend if you want to eat something different in Dijon.

Cozy and quiet ambiance, very friendly and efficient service, and of course delicious vegetarian sandwich (I ordered the Delhi)!! Would come again even though quite expensive 😂

Very tasty, original and in good portion, vegan only with local ingredients only. I strongly recommend it. The ambience is simple and very pleasant too and the service very kind.

Food was very good. Price okay. The presentation and creativity of the food could be a little bit improved. All in all it is a tasty vegan restaurant.

One of the very few good vegan options in the region. Friendly staff, good value for money. We were lucky and got a table for lunch on a friday. There are very few tables. Local beer & wine, very good coffee.
Mitch Bird★★★★★
My wife and I had an amazing 3 course meal here recently and I highly recommend it. It's so rare to find a good vegetarian restaurant in France, let alone a vegan one. We will return if we're ever in Dijon again.
MrSpidewar★★★★★
Great surprise to find a vegetarian/vegan restaurant which was open on Easter Sunday and served a completely vegan brunch. The food was delicious, well balanced and the atmosphere was nice, with good music and a good vibe from the personnel. The only thing I would improve is the verbal communication with the tourist clients, which if one doesn't understand French would be really difficult, as the staff doesn't speak English. Otherwise we had a very nice time at this restaurant and would totally recommend it! 🌱

This place does not take any reservation so make sure you will be there early to get your seat. Lucky us we got there a few minutes before people would like to have lunch! I can say I like the drink, the starter, the main course and the dessert, all of it! They are tasty, fresh and original! Definitely a restaurant you should go when you are in Dijon.
Lorene F.★★★★★
Nice local restaurant with a seasonal menu. They offer tasty vegan and vegetarian options for both mains and desserts so it's perfect to suit any diet! They have nice fresh juices, homemade lemonade, bio wines and beers. The terrace is large but make sure you arrive early if you don't want to wait an hour for a table as they do not take reservations.
Patrick Plaggenborg★★★★★
Interesting vegan and vegetarian options. Menu changes every day. Check out the latest on their Instagram. Nice spacious terrace in a closed courtyard, opposite a fancy furniture and home goods store which makes the whole space breath design. Make sure to arrive early for lunch because this place is popular! Queuing guaranteed, and it’s worth it.

What a great find! I had to wait an hour while my car was being inspected. I stumbled upon this place by chance. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the menu is lovely, and it's incredibly peaceful (I was on the terrace overlooking the road) – perfect for reading. The waitress was so friendly! I highly recommend it for a coffee, a meal, reading a book, or working quietly.
Jacqueline Ortiz★★★★★
Excellent!! I'm not a vegetarian, but I was very happy (and pleasantly surprised, hence the half-eaten meals that were photographed 😅) with everything. Plus, the staff were incredibly friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. Perfect for lunch!
Marine Cattaneo★★★★★
La Fourmilière is an incredible place where you truly feel at home. I feel completely at ease, while still being pampered by the staff. The dishes are delicious, prepared with care, and with an eco-conscious approach. The Saturday brunches are really lovely, the menu changes regularly, and it's always delicious!
Xavier Hamelin★★★★★
This is a wonderful discovery! A vegan restaurant in the heart of Dijon, quite close to the city center. Its cozy, café-like atmosphere is truly excellent. The dishes are delicious, made with simple, seasonal ingredients sourced from their own shop. There's a wide selection of hot drinks, and the quality of the food reflects their commitment to eco-responsibility. The place is warm and welcoming. Whether you arrive by car, tram, bike, or on foot, it's very accessible. You'll be greeted with genuine warmth by charming people, and the restaurant offers delicious food. Gluten-free options are also available. Games and books are provided for relaxing, whether you're dining with family or friends. The shop offers a wide range of bulk items and products that are as organic and locally sourced as possible. The prices are very reasonable compared to large chains. I highly recommend this place; kudos to the whole team!

La Causerie des Mondes is a wonderful café/restaurant offering excellent coffee as well as tea and chocolate. They have a great bakery with a delicious assortment of sweet treats, and their menu had a small but interesting selection of meals, as well. Its location is just a few minutes’ walk from the palace but it's away from the jammed streets that plague most of the central area during the tourist season. Consequently, its atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, both in their outside seating area as well as a charming interior space.
Marta Raaka★★★★★
This is a wonderful restaurant serving very fresh food and wonderful desserts. We enjoyed a perfect lunch outside with excellent service. When you see a chalkboard menu, stop and try it.

Heavenly food. The pear tart might just have been the best dessert I’ve ever eaten (mom’s pie aside). Friendly people, open patio out front, and fun interior. The meals were great, too!

Ethiopian restaurant located in a very scenic residential area. It offers authentic food, served in generous portions. Each dish is so flavorful and fresh. Seems like most of their business is takeaway, which is a shame because the atmosphere is so beautiful as well. I would celebrate special occasions here as the decor is suitable for large groups and parties.

Ethnic cuisine, cosy setting, lovely waiter- I'll surely visit again!! The Injira ( crepe) is made fresh everyday. .. made with real authentic ingredients!! I'll be ordering this regularly too as it resembles Indian chapati/appam in a way!!!

No one answers the phone I called 3 time, I went over and the food looks 3 days old. Hard Pass!
FANNY SCHWEIZER★☆☆☆☆
Very disappointed since the change of ownership. While the bowls used to be generous, now they're skimpy, with second-rate salmon, barely acceptable avocado, and all for €13. I won't be going back.
Pauline Arrighy★★★☆☆
We came to eat spring rolls (which seem to be the specialty) expecting an Asian restaurant. We were surprised that by 8 pm there were no spring rolls left (even though we had called ahead). It seems to me that they're trying to offer fusion cuisine, but in an atmosphere somewhere between a betting shop and an Asian takeaway. As for the flavors, they just weren't there... Despite the friendly welcome we received and the vegan option offered, we were disappointed. Thank you anyway for your kindness!

Beautiful atmosphere, incredibly friendly service, and absolutely delicious food. We especially loved the small plates, which were perfect for sharing and allowed us to try a variety of dishes. The evening was topped off with an excellent wine recommendation that paired perfectly with the meal. We would definitely come back and highly recommend it.
Sarah Meyer★★★★★
My husband and I were wandering around the market and chose this place for a coffee, juice, and flan. My husband had to leave. I ran a few errands and couldn’t find another place for lunch. I decided that La Menuiserie was the coziest lunch spot in the area, so I decided to eat there for the second time in the same day. Great choice. The staff are so friendly and the food was fresh, tasty, and beautiful. They made everything vegan mostly to please me. I spent hours, reading while eating and sipping my tea with flan. Highly recommend it!
Per Pial★★★★★
We walked into this place by chance and ended up really enjoying it. The menu is small — just a few dishes — and I assume it changes depending on which local ingredients are available that day. We tried the creamy cheese with herbs, olive oil, patatas bravas, pork, and potato purée with garlic and baby asparagus, all delicious and carefully prepared. Prices match the quality, but portions are on the smaller side, so if you're hungry, plan on at least three dishes per person. The place has only a few tables, so it’s definitely advisable to make a reservation.
Julia Lindkvist★★★★★
We've been to La Menuiserie twice during our 5 days stay in Dijon, after a recommendation from our AirBnB host. Must say it's such a lovely place, with friendly service and amazing food. Our favorite is the empanadas 😍
Chr tz★★★★★
Extraordinare! Extremely delicious! We've been here without reservation and where welcomed right away. Very good and sympathetic service with a lot of information about the meals. All is made fresh, organic and in house. We ate only vegetarian dishes and were totally satisfied. The desserts are tp die for. Thanks a lot for a very nice evening!

Tips for Enjoying Vegetarian Dining in Dijon

To make the most of your culinary journey through Burgundy, it helps to understand a few local nuances regarding meat-free eating. While Dijon is progressive, French dining culture still revolves heavily around specific meal times and menu structures. Here are some practical strategies to ensure you eat well, avoid hunger gaps, and experience the best flavors the city has to offer.

  1. Embrace the "Formule" at Lunch: Most restaurants in Dijon offer a "formule" or "menu du jour" at lunchtime, which is significantly cheaper than dinner. These set menus usually include a starter and main, or main and dessert. Always ask if the vegetarian option is a true main course or just an assembly of side dishes; the best kitchens will offer a composed plate.
  2. Master the Key French Phrases: While many younger servers speak English, knowing how to articulate your needs is respectful and effective. Learn to say "Je suis végétarien(ne)" (I am vegetarian) and "Est-ce qu’il y a de la viande ou du poisson dans ce plat?" (Is there meat or fish in this dish?). Be aware that in traditional French cooking, "vegetable soup" might still be made with chicken stock.
  3. Look Beyond "Végétalien" vs. "Végétarien": In France, "végétarien" usually means lacto-ovo vegetarian (dairy and eggs are okay), while "végétalien" means vegan. If you are vegan, always specify "sans produits laitiers, sans œufs, sans miel" (no dairy, no eggs, no honey) to avoid confusion with butter, which is ubiquitous in French cooking.
  4. Visit the Covered Market (Les Halles): For the ultimate vegetarian picnic or a break from restaurant dining, head to Les Halles de Dijon. This architectural marvel is filled with vendors selling fresh produce, local cheeses, bread, and pastries. It is the perfect place to assemble a lunch featuring Burgundian cheeses like Citeaux or Delice de Bourgogne, paired with a fresh baguette.
  5. Book Ahead for Dinner: Dijon is a bustling city, and the best restaurants—especially those with dedicated vegetarian menus—fill up quickly, particularly on weekends. If you have your heart set on a specific spot, make a reservation. This also gives you the opportunity to mention your dietary requirements in advance, allowing the kitchen to prepare something special rather than improvising on a busy night.

Exploring Dijon through its vegetarian cuisine reveals a side of the city that goes far beyond the clichés of heavy meat stews. The chefs here are proving that the future of French gastronomy is inclusive, sustainable, and deeply connected to the garden. Whether you are dining on a delicate terrine of seasonal vegetables or enjoying a plant-based burger crafted with local legumes, you are participating in a delicious evolution of Burgundian culture.

Ultimately, the best vegetarian restaurants in Dijon succeed because they do not treat meat-free cooking as a restriction, but as an opportunity for creativity. By following this guide and venturing out with an open mind, you will discover that Dijon is not just a stopover for wine lovers, but a genuine destination for plant-forward foodies.
