12 Best Cheap Hotels in Biarritz

Finding affordable accommodation in Biarritz might sound like a challenge given the city’s reputation for glitz, surfing royalty, and Belle Époque grandeur. While this Basque coastal gem certainly has its fair share of luxury villas and five-star palace hotels, it remains a surprisingly accessible destination for budget-conscious travelers.

The key to saving money here is knowing where to look and when to book. Away from the immediate seafront promenade, you will find a variety of charming two-star hotels, family-run guesthouses, and modern budget chains that offer excellent value without sacrificing comfort.

Staying in a cheaper hotel doesn’t mean you have to miss out on the Biarritz experience. Many of the most affordable options are located in the vibrant Saint-Charles and La Négresse neighborhoods, where you can live like a local and still reach the sand within a short walk or a quick, free shuttle ride.

When assessing value, we look beyond just the nightly rate. The best cheap hotels in Biarritz combine clean, comfortable rooms with free Wi-Fi, helpful staff, and proximity to public transport, ensuring your travel fund is spent on experiences—like surf lessons and pintxos—rather than just a bed.

Whether you are a solo backpacker chasing waves, a couple on a romantic weekend break, or a family looking for a base camp, there is a budget-friendly option for you. You simply need to trade a sea-view balcony for a bit of local character and authenticity.

Below, we have curated a list of the most reliable and best-reviewed affordable stays in the area. These properties have been selected for their consistent cleanliness, prime locations, and dedication to hospitality, proving that you can visit the jewel of the French Basque Country without breaking the bank.

Small room but provides the basics at an affordable price... Service was good.... and the location is superb if, like us, you are just travelling though and need a hotel that is just off the main motorway.... in a nutshell, I find that this hotel brand provides rooms that are are small but adequate... my 9 year old daughter said that the room was too small, and she is right off course, but I think the company has done a good job of cramming everything in.... the bonuses, the bed is big and the mattress is amazing! And what with the air conditioning on through the night, we all had a fantastic night's sleep :-)))

Room was cheap, you get what you pay for it’s nothing special and can’t fault €100 for 2 people you’d forgive planes overhead and noise for the price. The manager was so rude, we had to put our bicycles in a sketchy place and we were so lucky not to have them stolen. He was being so arrogant about it nearly shouting when we asked could we bring them upto the room. Plus he was doing no work any time we passed by he was outside smoking and he also shouted at my friend for drinking orange juice in reception after we cycled 80k. The girl in reception was good but manager needs to learn how to talk to guests and not carry on like he owns the place. Would stay here again if they changed the manager 👍🏻 location is decent for buses etc

You have to ask for the air to be turned on (activated). No one is at the lobby before 15h so you won’t be able to check in before then. No where to wait, and no bathrooms available either. Staff is rude. Rooms are dirty. Location is far from central Biarritz and beach. I paid 1,400€ for a week. Bugs inside room (desperate need of insect spray) and on top of that no one came to make my room in the whole duration of my stayed. Would not recommend, but was cheapest and only available option as everything else was sold out. You can also hear every step and noise from all around building. And my door did not have a working lock. So I felt unsafe. Someone opened the door of my room while I was sleeping…

the room is ok for the price – really small though upon arrival i was told “impossible” when the front desk checked my name turns out they checks somebody else in my room (those ppl booked the room for the wrong date) no ID check, nothing also the hotel is located right below the flight path of the planes leaving the Biarritz airport making it extremely loud when rare planes fly
Riccardo Frigerio★☆☆☆☆
This place is manky as! The exterior of the building is dirty, crusty and covered in black mold. The interior is not much nicer either! Despite mold not actively being present in the room, Its smell was everywhere. The rooms were small and so unclean my family and I were scared of getting bitten by bedbugs. We’ve even found hair all over the bathroom, but sadly that wasn’t the worst thing! Even a used Band-Aid was attached to the bed sheets. Considering the extremely high price we paid (230€) for this room it was a rip-off! Not one good thing about the whole experience. DO NOT RECOMMEND!

I recently stayed at Hotel Les Genets and had a very positive overall experience. One of the standout aspects of this hotel is its excellent location, offering very convenient access to Bayonne city, which made getting around simple and efficient. The availability of good parking facilities was also a major advantage, especially for those traveling by car. From the very beginning, the staff proved to be exceptionally helpful and accommodating. They arranged an automatic check-in process for me without any issues, which made arrival smooth and stress-free. Throughout my stay, every staff member I encountered demonstrated a consistently positive attitude, professionalism, and willingness to assist whenever needed. The room itself was relatively clean and well-maintained. The bed was comfortable, ensuring a good night’s sleep after a long day. One interesting feature was the modular bathroom integrated in the room; although compact, it was clean and properly equipped with all necessary amenities. Another highlight of the hotel is its on-site restaurant, which provides a convenient option for meals throughout the day. Whether for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, the restaurant offers a practical and enjoyable dining experience without needing to leave the premises. Overall, Hotel Les Genets delivers good value with its cleanliness, accessibility, helpful staff, and useful facilities, making it a solid choice for travelers visiting the area.

Location is great, just off A63...road out of Spain to Bordeaux. I arrived at 6pm and left the next day at 6am. Reception lady was great, spoke perfect English. Has a restaurant which I didn't go in, serves breakfast from 6am. Comfy double bed in a smallish room, lots of lighting. Shower has no screen, close door behind you or room carpet will get soaked. Parking is not gated but safe. Wifi is really good. I would stay here again.

This hotel is conveniently located for an overnight stop while travelling through France on the way to Spain. Although the property is a little tired in places, it is clean and welcoming. We chose it specifically because they accommodate our two pets in the room, which made our journey much easier. The reception staff were cheerful, friendly, and very helpful during our stay.

Lovely hotel. Rooms spacious and very clean and modern. Fresh smell of new linen on entering room. General fittings and lighting well thought out. Perfect, we will stay here again in preference to other budget hotels in the area. Well done management team. Mr/Mrs Bright.

Nice small hotel with clean rooms, the breakfast is superb and authentic. Not industrial crap but real good food. For the price, I truly recommend this hotel.

The window door didn’t shut properly. Cramped room for 2 people. There was no lock to the bathroom. We saw very few members of staff during our stay, other than the bar. The cleaners didn’t enter the rooms once. By the end of our stay we had dirt all over the floor. The rubbish bins weren’t cleared and we ran out of space to use the bin, leaving us rubbish on the floor. We had to use the same dirty towels for 7 days. The bed sheets became dirty and were not changed. The food was repetitive and bland. The area was nice however there was no view from our room and our balcony was easily accessible for the public. I will never ever stay here again.

There was no soap in the bathroom the shower gel was also empty didn't clean the rooms while you stayed there. Blinds are very old and barely work. However I didn't expect a TV and it was a nice surprise the food was very good.

Slightly tired rooms but a lovely welcoming staff and nice food. Amazing views of sunset. 🌅

Very run down place. This place needs an urgent makeover. Nice view and location near the beach, but my shower was broken when I got to the room, I was able to fix it so I could take a shower but hanging by a thread. The room lacks a fan and the window cannot be opened so I slept with the door opened and of course I was opening my eyes thoughout the night to make sure no one broke in… there was no hand soap. And lastly, I don't know what type of people go there but the guy upstairs peed through the balcony from the second floor in the middle of the night.

Very well located, it offers small, simple, yet clean rooms, a pool, tennis court, ping pong table, pool table and restaurant. There is also a petanque field. There is a great car park and it sits within a 5 minute walk to the beach.

Great little town just close to the border with Spain. The hotel is located close to many others, there were plenty of parking spaces outside the hotel which was brilliant and the staff were quite pleasant too. The room was small but as expected. To use the space to the max, the bathroom was split in a small toilet cubicle (door had huge gaps both on the top and bottom), shower was transparent and opened directly into the room with a mirror just in front of it which would allow anyone in the beds to see you getting in/out of the shower. The bunk bed was undone, and I had to make the bed. It should have been open. The breakfast wasn't amazing but it had most of the things you should expect. Being in France, the baguette quality should have been much better. Overall, it was ok for a night over. But I will most likely try to book in advance and get to the other Accor hotel in the same road next time.

I have an onion allergy. The tour operator and I asked 3 times for onion free food. The waiter assured me there were none in my meal. I realised there were when my mouth began to swell. No apology, no action taken, I told the receptionist who had to get a police escort to the pharmacy for tablets. Dangerous, avoidable experience.

Stayed during Waves and Wheels weekend. Hotel was as expected but if you want a quiet night ask for a room on the opposite side to the busy road. Staff all friendly and the breakfast is definitely worth having. Overall we were very happy with our choice of hotel.

Great little hotel to stay at, close to everything. We got a “family room” large bed and 2 single beds. The bathroom is one big shower ! Pretty cool to be able to shower using the whole bathroom. There’s is a slight odor, and it seems like a converted hospital. But over all, not bad for a place to crash.

This hotel never seems to disappoint. I have lost track of how many years we have been stopping here on our trips to Spain and then back to the UK. I always seem to get a good sleep and enjoy the breakfasts in the morning before setting off. The staff are always attentive and will assist you with anything. My wife and I will stay here again at some stage. Thank you.

Campanile Biarritz is a very basic hotel, setup more like a roadside motel. It's located right at the edge of the Biarritz Airport, so you will hear planes quite close by, though since it's a small airport, flights aren't too frequent. The rooms are decent for this category. Crucially, the beds are very comfortable, which is always a big plus. The shower also had great water pressure and plenty of hot water—the other essential feature for a good stay in my book. I stayed during peak season, so it felt quite expensive for what it actually is. It’s about a 10-15 minute drive to the city center, and having a car is essential here. As you'd expect from a roadside motel, there is plenty of free parking available. They do offer breakfast and dinner, though I didn't try either.

Nice hotel. Perfect for the airport. Special mention for the exceptional lady who was on reception yesterday. I had left my phone in a taxi and she managed to track it down and recover the phone!! Number 3 bus stop just around the corner, runs into the centre of Bayonne. Very convenient.

What can I say. Hotel going through refurbishment, however, from minute 1 the staff were very welcoming and helpful. Room was spotless, the bed fantastically comfortable with good facilites. I ate at the restaurant, the waitress was very professional, helpful and polite. The meal itself was absolutely fantastic. Having eaten all over the world, tonight's meal was in my top five, simple but full of taste. Bravo to the chef.

Service is disaster. No one cares about the guests. Rooms are basic, and not really clean.

Stayed here the night before we flew back to Dublin. I had hurt my knee badly doing the Camino and the lovely girl on reception let us put our rucksacks in storage well before checking in time. They were very helpful. The room was extremely clean . Meal was lovely and an excellent breakfast at 6 am. Few minutes walk to the airport..brilliant!!

Good hotel if you need to take a flight the next day. Rooms were clean and comfy!

A big thank you to the staff member who served me, I lost my bag on a bus and got the loan of a charger and disposable toothbrush. She was operating the reception desk and serving food. Her help was much appreciated. The room was modern, clean and nice. The only downside was it was a bit noisy. The rooms all have an external door so you can hear people walk by, aircraft landing and toilet and showers being used. I slept well as I had a crazy day. The hotel is 5 mins walk from airport, it is tricky to find coming from airport, a few signs for pedestrians would be helpful as there are no footpaths on the road route. I had dinner there a very tasty veggie burger, I would stay there again.

This was a convenient place to stay.3 mins walk from the airport terminal, and main bus station. Very easy to navigate to and from Biarriyz city center or surrounding areas by public transport. The rooms where fabulous, clean, quiet and comfortable. The staff are equally amazing, and can't do enough but to help and be of service to you. Evening meals served during the week days are absolutely delicious, and a good selection of breakfast options available also.

I stayed here two years ago in the same PMR room, and the a/c wasn’t working then. I was promised at the time that it was a technical issue and would be fixed soon, but in two years no effort has been made to effect any repairs, just excuses and outright lies from the staff. This isn’t just in one room - the a/c doesn’t work ANYWHERE in the hotel! It was impossible to sleep at night - so hot and sweaty. If you are menopausal and have hot flushes this is definitely not the place for you! Overall this hotel has really gone downhill -dust, spiders and cobwebs in the room, mouldy tiles in the shower and no a/c. It’s a shame because I’ve always like B&B hotels, but I definitely won’t be coming back, and I’ll be looking for Ibis or other alternatives in the future.
John Stapleton★☆☆☆☆
Excellen caring and professional staff - terrible and I mean TERRIBLE hotel. Inedible practically non existent breakfast composed of pastries, juice, bread, cereal and for protein fake egg mix (which gave both my wife and I stomach problems). Rooms are miniscule and the temperature hard to reguate, we found ourselves opening and closing the window throughout the night to deal with the heat. No soundproofing as others noted (you will hear everything) the walls are made of paper. We were travelling with our baby and the crib and had let them know in advance they didn't have a crib available. One of the staff members was nice enough to search for one but the one she gave us was covered in vomit (that had not been washed off) which made it unusable. For a B&B this is perhaps the worst experience I have had with the chain and makes me reconsider if I will keep booking with them.
Massimo G★★★★★
This B&B Hotel is very conveniently located, right out the highway, and has a big and safe parking lot. received a smiling welcome, in three minutes I got my room code and invoice, much appreciated after a long day driving. My room smelled a bit of mould, but the AC was working and the shower was really powerful. Quiet room overnight and the usual full breakfast made it an extremely satisfying stay, a guarantee when staying at B&B Hotels.
Diogo Mendonça★★★☆☆
The rooms are clean and the location is also okay. Don't get breakfast unless you have to (they start serving at 06:30 on workdays), as I found €10/person to be too expensive for what you get. The yogurts are very good, though.
Mohamed Ghazli★★★★★
The service provided in Hotel B&B bayonne by the staff and admin team both online and in person was excellent and efficient. The stay and room quality was great and parking had CCTV security that put my mind at ease. Breakfast was deliciously light and the service from Edvige (Staff) was non other than warm, professional and polite.

We made online booking, they have self check in service wich is great. Room was very warm, and most important clean. It's close to the highway, they have also breakfast for who wants. Only inconvenience was the "WIFI" On the booking was writen that they have but when we arrived we had no signal în the bedroom at all.

Check in only from 5 O'Clock, you are not aloud in before, rain or shine. When knocked on the door for check in, a very agitated receptionist shouted not time yet, but it was in fact 17:02. Very shabby small room with stained towels and two half used toilet rolls. Very old bathroom pod, stained and battered . No air-conditioning. You can get a lot better for the price and with earlier check in. Neither quick or a Palace, for sure. Definitely neither

If you want to go to a place that has bedbugs, and other kind of insects living in your room, and where the cleaning lady enters your room without knocking and seeing the DO NOT DISTURB sign, this is it! Disappointed, and not recommending it.

A bit 'tucked out of the way' Clean & tidy, basic rooms, comfy bed, helpful staff - English speaking receptionist. No restaurant, except area for Continental breakfast - Arrived late evening, receptionist suggested local food outlet, who delivered evening meal direct to our room.

I stayed in the Palmito for one night. The aircon couldn't be controlled individually which made sleep difficult. It's a typical seaside resort hotel which needs refurbishing. The receptionist was lovely and called a local restaurant to check my reservation which I was almost an hour late for thanks to a delayed train. Breakfast was good.
La Casa★☆☆☆☆
I would like to point out that this hotel completely, and I repeat, completely fails to meet its claimed standard. This is, in reality, a one-star hotel with terrible French service. The service is awful, there is a complete lack of proper hospitality, and the quality of the rooms is nowhere near the level advertised by the hotel. There is dirt everywhere, housekeeping is poor, and the room rates are excessively high for what is being offered. The sound insulation in the rooms is virtually nonexistent. The bed is relatively comfortable, but there are many hotels in the surrounding area at exactly the same price level that we had the opportunity to inspect, and they are significantly better than this property in every respect. I strongly and unequivocally do not recommend staying at this hotel.
M. M.★★★☆☆
It’s an okay stay. I have a dust allergy and can confirm that the place is quite dusty—I had trouble at night because of it. The bathroom drains are weak, so water tended to spill everywhere during showers. I’m not sure I would stay here again. Also, the baby crib comes at an extra cost, which I think not cool.

DO NOT STAY HERE! Pictures on booking don’t match reality. The only good thing about this place truly is the location but it’s not worth not sleeping for 3 nights because the air conditioning is dripping, or not working. The beds are horrible, it’s not clean. When we asked for a solution on the dripping AC we got a bucket as a solution. Water from the sink doesn’t drain. Cannot emphasize enough - any other hotel or pension in Biarritz is better than this one.
John Yeomans★★★★★
Blessed with wonderful weather we enjoyed a 2 night stay in this hotel. It met all our expectations.
Kayode Lewis★★★★★
Overall it is a very solid hotel. The location is great being close to the beach, shops and restaurants and the room was nice. The only issue was the noisy neighbours and the fact that sound comes through easily but that's more down to the other guests rather than the hotel.
Paula Goulart★☆☆☆☆
Don’t sleep here. This is not a 3* hotel! No soundproof and very nosy. We woke up with banging and drilling from the building next door and staff didn’t care. The wash their hands off like it’s not their problem and you’ll be the one with the headache! Staff is rude, shout at you and don’t speak any language but french! Towels are tiny and thin and they just have a couple of tiny sachets with shower gel/shampoo. There is no conditioner, no phone or smoke alarm is available in the rooms. // In answer to the hotel reply: so many languages you speak, yet you continue to reply in french!! Also, as someone with experience in hotels, If you know there will be noise at 8am (that’s when they started) you shouldn’t book those rooms. The comfort of the guests should be your priority. All we want from your services is to rest and sleep, something you clearly can’t provide.
Ricky★☆☆☆☆
Warning this is not a hotel *** this is a room without any condition, no fire measure in place, and no phone in the room. Saying that if a fire happens in the room is no Warning as well as no phone to inform reception. You can hear everything from the other rooms, not soundproof. They don't speak any language besides french. When you complain they treat you like an animal. Can understand how booking.com is related and allow this type of property on their portfolio. As evidence check the Google reviews how the owner responds to the review. Rotten property close down is a danger for the tourists.

How to Book Smart and Save Even More in Biarritz

Finding a cheap hotel is only half the battle; how you book your trip can significantly impact the final price you pay. Biarritz is a highly seasonal town, with prices fluctuating wildly between the quiet winters and the bustling summer surf season. By employing a few local travel strategies, you can stretch your accommodation budget much further and potentially upgrade your stay for free.

Travel in the shoulder season. The absolute best value for money can be found in May, June, and late September. During these months, the weather is often still warm enough for beach walks and terrace dining, but the room rates are significantly lower than in July and August. You will also find that the streets and beaches are far less crowded, offering a more relaxed experience.

Look beyond the seafront. As mentioned in our list, the areas of Saint-Charles and La Négresse are your best friends for budget travel. Not only are the hotels cheaper here, but the restaurants and cafes are also more authentically local and less tourist-trapped. The city operates a very efficient and often free shuttle bus system (N11 and N12 lines) that connects these neighborhoods directly to the city center and beaches.

Book directly with the hotel. While third-party aggregators are great for research, many small, family-run hotels in Biarritz offer a "best price guarantee" or a free breakfast if you book directly through their website or by phone. This is especially true for the smaller 2-star hotels that prefer to avoid paying high commission fees to online travel agents.

Consider the "Chambre d’hôtes" alternative. If the hotels are fully booked or prices spike during a surf competition, look for certified Bed & Breakfasts. These often provide a higher level of personalized service and a hearty homemade breakfast (often included in the price) that can save you the cost of eating out in the morning.

Check for city tax and parking fees. When comparing cheap hotel prices, always look at the fine print. The tourist tax (taxe de séjour) is usually added on top of the nightly rate and varies by star rating. Furthermore, if you are driving, parking in central Biarritz can be expensive and difficult. Choosing a budget hotel slightly outside the center that offers free private parking can save you €15 to €25 per day, making a slightly higher room rate actually cheaper in the long run.

By planning your visit around these practical tips, you ensure that your money is spent on what matters most: enjoying the crashing waves of the Grande Plage, hiking the coastal path to the Phare de Biarritz, and savoring the incredible food of the Basque Country. Biarritz is a destination that rewards the savvy traveler, and with the right cheap hotel as your base, you can experience its magic without the financial stress.
