12 Best Hotels in Saint-Malo

Saint-Malo is not just a stopover on the way to Mont Saint-Michel; it is a destination that demands a slower pace. Waking up within the granite ramparts, hearing the cry of gulls over the harbor, and smelling the salt air from your window is an experience that defines the Corsair City. The right accommodation transforms a simple visit into an immersive stay, allowing you to enjoy the cobbled streets long after the day-trippers have boarded their ferries.

Choosing where to stay in Saint-Malo requires understanding its distinct neighborhoods. Intra-Muros, the historic walled city, offers atmosphere and convenience but comes with narrow staircases and the hum of evening revelry. The Paramé district to the east provides grand villas and direct access to the vast Sillon beach, while the quiet suburb of Saint-Servan offers a more residential, local feel facing the solidor tower.

The hotel scene here ranges from historic 19th-century palaces to sleek, contemporary boutique addresses with thalassotherapy spas. Whether you are planning a romantic weekend, a family seaside holiday, or a solo journey along the Emerald Coast, the city caters to every style of traveler. The key is matching your desired pace to the right location.

For those seeking luxury, Saint-Malo boasts properties with panoramic sea views that have hosted royalty and literary giants. For the practical traveler, there are smartly designed rooms just steps from the TGV station or the ferry terminal, making transit effortless. Many hotels also embrace the Breton culture, featuring local produce, crepes, and cider on their breakfast menus.

The weather on this coast can be dramatic, shifting from brilliant sunshine to misty sea fog within an hour. Therefore, selecting a hotel with a comfortable lounge, a heated indoor pool, or a renowned restaurant is a wise investment. A great hotel here serves as your sanctuary against the Atlantic winds.

We have curated a list of the finest addresses in the city, balancing historical charm with modern comfort. These selections are based on location, service quality, and the unique character that makes a stay in Saint-Malo truly memorable.

We had as a couple a great night. The room was very clean with a nice view to the seafront. Parking very easy and cheap nearby. Just wondering how it is in high season. But definitely a place to recomand!

I stayed here on October 29, 2025. It’s very close to Intra-Muro, but easy to park by road in Autumn time. Room is elegant and quiet. Breakfast is good as well. It’s my first experience of Mercure hotel. Thank you so much.

Perfectly set at the coastline with a nice ambience. Breakfast is a little crowded and the lovely, kind staff cannot keep up with the demand. The beds are too short for me at 186 cm. No fitness, but a small sauna. Parking is a little difficult, but P+R Feval is cheap and there's a bus running which is free for 24h and costs just 2 € after that which you can pay with card in the busses.

Lovely room although there is limited space to store clothes if you are staying fir more than a day or two. Easy walk to the fort. Many nice restaurants. Very good breakfast. Ocean view is just that.

A charming seaside hotel in a fantastic location! We really enjoyed our stay at Les Charmettes. The hotel has a lovely, authentic charm and is located directly on the beach, making it a wonderful place to relax and enjoy Saint-Malo. Having breakfast with such a beautiful sea view every morning was a real highlight. One evening we also had dinner on the terrace, and the combination of the sea views, the relaxed atmosphere, and the delicious food made for a memorable experience. We would definitely recommend spending at least one evening there. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming throughout our stay. The location is perfect, peaceful enough to enjoy the beach, yet close enough to walk to the historic centre of Saint-Malo along the beautiful seafront. We would gladly stay here again.

Great place to stay with a decent amount of parking, and it’s possible to park motorcycles out of view of the road. Very friendly staff, lovely comfortable rooms and a really good hairdryer. About 25min walk along the promenade to the old town. Highly recommended.
Heather McIsaac★★★★★
Amazing location, delicious food. The hotel was clean and comfortable, wonderful welcome and friendly staff. The restaurant has unbeatable views as it’s directly on the beach with an uncumbered sunset vantage point. The tuna was *chefs kiss* hence not even having time to capture a photo before devouring it. We highly recommend Les Charmettes for both accommodations and dining. A rare find that does both well. Only 30 minutes walk to the walled city, and it’s a beautiful seaside walk that you won’t forget.

Lovely boutique restaurant overlooking promenade and beach. Very friendly and helpful staff. Room very clean, and beds very comfortable, although slight noise from other rooms. Restaurant was delicious, although they were a little unsure in coping with GF requests we got there in the end. Breakfast buffet was nice, with a range of options but quite pricey.

Great location and parking was easy. EASY walk to old city along the promenade. Service was excellent; helped us find nearby laundromat. Restaurant was also surprisingly good. And the view!!!

A very friendly, comfotable hotel situated close to the ferry port. The staff are welcoming, helpful and there is a wide selection of food for breakfast. We have been coming every summer for several years and never been disappointed!
Matt★☆☆☆☆
I didn't get the room deposit back. I think because there was a corner in skirting board that was damaged. This was the case when we took the room and we weren't responsible for it. There is also no lift at this hotel. Much better options in St Malo, we also stayed at Anne de Bretagne the week before and that was a lot better.
Bruce Bracken★☆☆☆☆
The hotel looked OK and reception was polite and efficeient. EXCEPT that they forgot to tell us that all the electronic door locks were faulty and there was a trick to actually lock the rooms. When we came back, we found that many room doors including ours were not closed properly and anyone could have entered! The different receptionist on the following morning said we should have been advised, but we weren't. In addition to this, we found that the sound insulation in the room was non-existent as we could hear every word from the rooms next to ours, every movement, trips to the toilet during the night. All this made our stay stressful and unpleasant.
Jon Le Gresley★★★★★
Great hotel located just outside St Malo walls. The rooms were tidy and clean and a good size. The shower was good and hot and the bed firm. Got a bit stuffy at night as no air conditioning but opened a window. The receptionist was very helpfull and spoke good English, booking us several taxis etc. Breakfast was a good selection of cheese's, breads, ham, fruit, pastries etc. All in all a very positive experience.
Michael Halligan★★★★★
A quality hotel in perfect position for Brittany and Condor ferries. Comfortable rooms with all basic facilities, scrupulously clean throughout. A good bar, restaurant for snacks and breakfast. Secure parking beneath hotel. Excellent value for money.

Service is not bad or good, the receptionist checked us in and was nice enough. The location is in a sketchy area, walking distance to the market, but it’s in the outskirts of the city so there isn’t a nearby attraction. I recommend a car if you plan on staying here. It has air condition in which you can control. Breakfast has a variety of bread, beans, meats and eggs. The pool and the spa area is nice and clean. This is probably the best part of the hotel. This hotel has big rooms in terms of space. The issue with the hotel is that is esthetically renovated but it’s dirty. The hallway carpets is dirty with stains. The bathrooms contained molds along the showers and grouts. The towels inside the rooms and pool areas are stained and of poor quality. The bed sheets have stains. It will service the purpose of having a place to sleep in and having a pool. Due to the lack of attention to cleanliness, I do not recommend it. I would not stay here again.
Renelle Daigle★☆☆☆☆
We were very surprised when the front desk charged us full damage deposit due to a small 1 cm washable marker that my 6 year old accidentally made on the small piece of furniture. We have travelled all over the world with our kids and have never been charged a damage deposit in the past. The staff and other visitors were not welcoming to young families. Another visitor yelled at my child for playing with a small ball in the pool near her. The breakfast was sparse with no eggs or bacon left in the buffet at 8:00 AM No available room service

Hotel clean and comfortable. Location lovely, walk across the road straight onto beach. 15-20 min walk to the old town. We were very happy with included breakfast. Parking 20 euros but best to book prior to arrival. Amazingly friendly and helpful staff. They really helped us when we had a problem and couldn’t have done more than they did. Recommend la Cornish restaurant 10 mins walk from hotel.

We stayed here for four nights and loved it! Best breakfast we've encountered, and the air-conditioning was a godsend for a family of four with kids. This hotel is nicely located – close to a really nice section of the Sillon, and just a short walk to the Intramuros – and the staff were friendly. The family room was spacious and the loft made it special. Shout out to the helpful cleaner on the 5th floor and the front desk employee who helped me book a cab on short notice.
Astrid Gap★★★★☆
They accept dogs which is super nice and friendly. There was not enough parking for all host you need to book in advance but is not mentioned in booking, staff is friendly and they are always available. The towels on the bathroom are a bit too old altough they were clean, we had new teas in the room and sugar that was nice the room was always cleaned in the morning .
Mary G★★★★☆
The hotel is very well situated and a “no-nonsense” hotel. Breakfast offering is small but very tasty. The bed is huge, which makes the bathroom and WC a bit tight, but it’s a good compromise. The view from the sea view rooms is fantastic.

A short walk from the station and arrived at the hotel right on the sea front. Welcoming and helpful staff on reception gave me the perfect first impression. Clean and airy room and chosen option was a sea view (paid a bit more but so worth it). I had an early start the following day and they organised a continental breakfast for me (at 0500h!!!!). Excellent hotel

We had a room with a view on the sea, beautiful. Hotel very neat and well equipped. Superb location. Staff very friendly.

The staff here was really good and we had the best time in St Malo. The room was newer and the amenities were as expected, but the staff really were nice and a step above other places.
Asier López Gordón★★★★★
The location is splendid and the staff is quite nice. The facilities look pretty new and clean. The room was smaller than in other hotels, but had all the space required. The breakfast is varied and tasty. On the day of my check out, I had to leave pretty early, before breakfast officially started, but the receptionist offered me a bag and let me take some of the available items with me anyway (Dziękuję bardzo, Pani Dominiko 😊).
Candace W★★★★★
I really appreciated the staff, the cleanliness, everything working, good hot shower, nice walk to the restaurants, shop, fort, and of course that gorgeous beach. I am not a breakfast person, but after seeing how nice it was, I added it for my last day. Yes, sleeping room was small, but good for 1 person and typical for what I've seen in Europe at this price.

The room was nice with space to navigate and high ceilings. This location right in the heart of Saint-Malo was the best. Near the sea and walking distance to this historic city. I love it here.

Very nice rooms, beautifully decorated in a vintage modern style. Waited quite some time to get a room, so book in advance. This year we could also eat in the brasserie, very highly recommended stay in St. Malo.

We had a good experience overall. The hotel was next to the beach and there are good restaurants next door and across the street. Professional and kind staff members. Keep up with the good work. Thank you !

My family of 3 plus a dog stayed 1 night at this hotel when we decided to extend our stay in the area. We came from a 4 star hotel in Dinard and I must say, we enjoyed this hotel better! I booked the family duplex and it had the best ocean view of our entire trip. The room was updated mostly (the bathroom was a bit outdated) and it was so wonderful to just open the door and walk out to the sea past the boardwalk. I also had a lovely time sitting on the patio bar and reading a book, the service was amazing! Highly recommend this hotel for this room specifically.
Nishida Bijo★★★★★
We as a family were here in the 3rd week of June. We were allowed to check in 5 hours early!!! We are thankful to the kind receptionist for that. The room was clean, cozy and spacious. The Linen and towels were also clean. The kettle and varieties of tea/coffee sachets were a real comfort. The balcony door opens to the ocean and it was such an enchanting view!!!! It was a great experience to watch the tides go down.in the noon and come back full by evening... The breakfast was great and was also beach-front. The water filter in the common place was also a blessing. The guests have access to the beach from hotel. I would like to visit here again...

We reserved the "quadruple" room with a view for 3 to 4 adults. The view was great but the room felt like a closet. Even when the sofa bed was closed, it was challenging to navigate around our luggage and each other, and the sofa was very uncomfortable. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful and got us a separate room for one night, but there were no other vacancies. The person running the terrace bar, supposed to be open till 1 a.m., closed the terrace around 10, just as as we were enjoying the sunset and told us to leave.
Christina Hoots★★★★☆
We loved our stay here! The location is wonderful, very close to restaurants and the intra-muros area, and right on the beach. The pillows on the beds were amazing (I would have bought one from the hotel if I didn't have to fly it home). I was worried about noise, as our room was right between the bar and a common toilet, but I couldn't hear any disturbances. Can't wait to come back!

My wife and I had a wonderful 3 might stay here. The staff were so friendly and helpful! The room was impeccably clean, and the location is perfect. We drove there and their garage parking is very convienient. Each morning, there was a high quality breakfast which was a great way to start each day. We hope to come back soon!

The hotel is in a perfect position. Easy to walk into the intra muros area but also a stone’s throw from the beach. The room was lovely and we were lucky enough to get one with a balcony which only added to the experience. The staff were very friendly. The one weak area was the breakfast which was rather limited in the selection and various things tended to run out. This was definitely not enough to spoil the holiday, but it could have been just that bit better.
Yehudah Livneh★★★★★
Excellent hotel. Very comfortable. Quiet. Great Location. Highly recommended. The room was very comfortable. The air conditioning was wonderful. Breakfast was excellent. Eric, the waiter at breakfast was superb - very friendly and helpful. The hotel is just 50 meters away from the steps down to the beach. Excellent location. And only two blocks away from the old town.
Jessica Ng★★★★☆
Booked this hotel on Expedia and as a platinum member, I was given a lovely upgrade at no charge upon check-in. The room was incredibly spacious and I loved having all that room to relax. I could even see the water from my window and if I opened my window at night, I could hear the waves crashing. This hotel is a great location as it's steps from the water (there's a staircase going down to the beach for low-tide) and it's a short walk to the bus stop and old city. I had a really weird situation in my room, where it was super windy that night and I think a bird or something was in the ducts or walls and I could hear it pecking at the drywall. I was a bit worried it would break through the wall. I called front desk and they came up, but clearly nothing they could do - but I appreciated their attentiveness. Fell asleep with earplugs and everything was fine.

We stayed in Hotel L' Adresse for only 1 night but would love to return. The hotel has undergone a major refurbishment and is beautifully done with much attention to detail. The lounge/bar/reception areas are very attractive and the hotel serves bar snack/platters. The room was large and very comfortable beds and well equipped with a mini kitchen cupboard, should we have wished to use it. Bathroom was very modern. we recommend staying at this hotel.

Comfortable hotel with spacious rooms (and bathrooms), nice location on the Sillon beach, and a beautiful Odorico mosaic. Ideally situated to check out many of the other Odorico mosaics that ornate Saint-Malo houses and buildings. Not too far from inteamuros.

We have really enjoyed our stay at Le Jersey with my little daughter! It's a small hotel right at the seafront promenade and the beach, 20 minutes walk from the Saint-Malo fortress and 7 minutes walk from Grand Thermes (we had a great view on the sea from the room). The room was quite small but we had everything we needed (please note, there is no elevator). Le Jersey is the same group as Hotel Antinea one house away, so we had breakfast and dinners at Antinea, and what great dinners! The chef is very creative, and the taste, the combinations and the presentation of the dishes were really top. And finally, the personnel - everyone was really lovely and helpful, thank you very much! Highly recommend and will probably be back 🙂

Wonderful hotel with a seaside view. The most amazing thing is the breakfast terrace with a view on the sea.

Really enjoyed our stay, over room was lovely and the staff are super friendly. I asked if they'd call me a taxi to the airport and then they proceeded to charge me 30 euros. I presummed that they'd booked and payed for the taxi. When questioned they'd charged me 30 euros just to call the taxi company. I personally think that's outrageous hense the 4 stars.

Nice little hotel, great breakfast and friendly staff. Easy to get to with fairly secure parking, amenable to late arrivals, and air conditioning in the rooms - which isn't all too common.

We booked the family room and found the hotel to be great. The staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and modern.. like their sustainable approach. The hotel is an. Old farmhouse and registered as a historical place.. it stands out in its surroundings. The hotel has a water fountain and glass bottles you can use which is great. Great internet. Very happy and would happily come back.

This is a very great located hotel with very friendly staff especially owner himself Christopher who makes you feel home every second. Here you may find free water, tea, coffee & boiler service at you room. Very calm hotel to take a long and deep sleep I may suggest. This hotel is famous for pilot’s resistance of their simulator’s training.
Paul Bain★★★★★
Fantastic dog friendly hotel with beautifully appointed, modern rooms and lovely ensuite shower. The staff were extremely friendly and we were impressed with the warmth of our welcome, both at arrival and at breakfast the following day. The beautiful old building (perhaps a former farm?) is very conveniently located within ten minutes' drive of the ferry port and old town. We ate our evening meal at Panda Wok, a two minute walk away. Highly recommended!
Gilbert Muirhead★★★☆☆
Stayed here before catching the ferry at St Malo. Location in an trading estate and a bit further out of St Malo than expected. Nice building and reception area. However the disappointment was the rooms which were tiny. Yes it was billed as cosy but given that the hotel is supposedly a Logis "Elegance" category I was expecting somewhat better. The bed wasn't even particularly special. I would call it "cosy" at best but probably "essential". The only explanation for the category can be the reception area which was very nice with seating area and free water.. A shame as we were hoping for something a bit special for our last day.

What an amazing place. Ibis Styles are hit and miss, some are dreadful, and some are wonderful. This is one of the second category. You are in a perfect position and very close to the public parking. The hotel is done out like a boat, with nautical themes throughout. Very tastefully done and is not as kitsch as it sounds. Capitain Nicholas was an excellent ambassador and very passionate and welcoming... honestly one of the most friendly and welcoming reception staff I have met in decades. We were in the rear section accessed through a side door (amusingly referred to as the poop deck), and while there is an elevator, it will take one person, or a large suitcase, but not both. The rooms are smaller, due to this being a historic building. The shower is quite tight to navigate, and I would suggest that if you were a person of size you might find it difficult to use. That being said, the room was comfortable and had enough space for storage and to get around. Breakfast was included, and was of a very good standard, bread, pastries, cheese and cold cuts, youghurt and fruit. Honestly, this was excellent value for money and a pleasant way to spend a night in St Malo.
Flavia Ballve★★★★★
The hotel is very well located, inside the fortified part of the old Saint Malo. The staff was very, very kind and helpful; I've rarely had such a good experience. Really worth noting how Nicolas and Nadine (I think those were the names) were cheerful, polite and helpful. The décoration is thought to every detail and the "ship / ocean" theme is everywhere. The room was spacious and the décoration was great (the pouf and the "break the glass" in the wall were amazing!), but I'd have welcomed better toiletries and a few hangers for the towels. Our dog was very much welcomed: there were bowls for her, as well as a few treats. Breakfast was very good and copious, but the room was small and it was hard to get to the food.
Jack Hughes★☆☆☆☆
This hotel cancelled my reservation I had had booked for months with less than 24 hours notice following my card being declined when they tried to validate it to secure the room. The day before I was due to arrive at the hotel, I checked my emails and had received a message advising me that my card was being declined when they tried to validate the booking, and advising that I must provide a new card that same day. I was surprised at this email for two reasons; 1) why is the card only being validated the day before I am due to arrive, when the booking was accepted months ago, and 2) I was surprised that such a serious communication was made only by email, and there had been no attempt to call. Nevertheless, I understand that transactions abroad can sometimes trigger fraud alerts at the bank, so I contacted my bank, clarified the problem, and instead provided a different card registered under my partner to secure the booking. I asked the hotel to confirm this had been accepted. I did not hear back from the hotel for five hours, and the next message I received advised that the second card had not worked and they had cancelled my booking! I rang immediately after receiving this message to request that they instead validate my original card as I had instructed my bank to release the payment. I spoke to an argumentative and patronising receptionist who refused, saying that the reservation no longer existed. However, shockingly, he said they still had rooms available, which he would happily sell me, but at the new day-before rate at over €80 more! Attempts to reason with the receptionist were futile, who was indifferent to my situation and insisted I would have to pay the exorbitant rate. It is clear to me that the hotel realised the rate at which they originally sold the room was too low, took the first opportunity they could to cancel and attempted to extort another €80 out of me thinking I would have no choice but to accept. Thankfully, I managed to secure a last minute booking elsewhere. I completely understand that a valid card is required to secure a hotel booking - this is standard practice. But I do not understand why the validation was left until the last minute, leaving me with very little time to react. I was shocked that the hotel took it upon themselves to cancel my reservation, when I had booked a refundable rate and as per the terms had until midnight that day to cancel. It seems the hotel was happy to pick and choose which terms and conditions it would adhere to. The point of the card validation is to guarantee the booking, yet the hotel refused my offer to pay immediately over the phone. I also found it strange that both mine and my partner’s cards were declined at this hotel (both from separate banks, one Visa and one Mastercard). My bank advised me that transactions from this hotel show up at their end as the “All Seasons”, (which took me a while to realise that it referred to this hotel), I believe the former name before being taken over by Ibis, which may point to why the transactions trigger suspicion. I am very upset and incredibly disappointed by the ill treatment I suffered from this establishment. I regularly stay in Accor hotels, and had they bothered to check my account, they would have noticed this and that I had never previously had a problem with payment. Without assurances from Accor that this situation does not arise again, I will be unable to trust that they will honour future reservations and will not be able to consider them for future trips. The hotel left my partner and I in a very worrying and vulnerable situation, essentially stranded in a foreign country with nowhere to stay. The receptionist tried to claim that they had acted in accordance with standard hotel practice - after working in hotels in France, I can assure them that this is far from an acceptable practice. It was a very sad way to end my holiday and a terrible start to my birthday in Saint Malo.
Joshua Formentera★★★★☆
The hotel is in great location in Saint Malo. Just perfect right inside the old walled city. Both the room and bathroom are cleaned. The hotel staff are super friendly and accommodating.
Saiyid Islam★☆☆☆☆
The room was rather small and I requested extra pillows as the ones provided in the room (one per person) were not too big. I was told I needed to buy the extra pillows for some 35 euros a pop as they didn’t have spares. Quite a claim for a hotel that was more than half empty! If I’m spending about $200 a night I’d expect at least some minimal level of service. Probably the last time I stay in an Accor property. (Correction: second last time as have one more night in Angers tomorrow.. too late to cancel unfortunately)

Tips for Booking a Hotel in Saint-Malo

Before you finalize your reservation, there are several local nuances to understand that will significantly impact the quality of your trip. Saint-Malo is a compact city, but accessibility and parking can be challenging, especially within the historic walls. Knowing the logistics of tides, traffic, and seasonal crowds will help you secure the best value and experience.

Book Intra-Muros strategically if you are driving. The historic center is largely pedestrianized, and vehicle access is restricted to residents and hotel guests with pre-arranged codes. If your hotel is inside the walls, contact them before arrival to get the access code and directions to the nearest paid parking lot, such as the underground parking at the Esplanade Saint-Vincent. Space is limited, so this is not the place for a large SUV.

Consider the ferry schedule if you are staying near the port. Hotels facing the Quai Sébastopol or the ferry terminal offer incredible views of the harbor and the ramparts, but they can be noisy. Ferries to Portsmouth, Jersey, and Guernsey begin loading early in the morning. If you are a light sleeper, request a room on a higher floor or facing the courtyard.

Do not underestimate the Saint-Servan district. While tourists flock to Intra-Muros, Saint-Servan offers a more authentic and often more affordable stay. Located around the Solidor Tower and the port of Solidor, this area has excellent seafood restaurants and is a pleasant 20-minute walk along the sea to the main walls. You get more space for your money here.

Check for thalassotherapy packages. Saint-Malo is famous for its seawater therapy centers, particularly in the Paramé and Rochebonne areas. If your goal is relaxation, look for hotels that offer direct access or packages to a thalasso spa. These often include half-board meals designed around wellness, which can be more economical than booking treatments separately.

Book months ahead for the summer festivals. If you are visiting for major events like the "Quai des Bulles" comic book festival or the "Route du Rock" music festival, accommodation sells out rapidly. The best beachfront rooms with balconies overlooking the Sillon are the first to go. Booking six months in advance is not excessive for July and August.

The beauty of Saint-Malo is that it changes character with the tides, and your hotel choice dictates how you experience this maritime rhythm. Whether you choose a room overlooking the crashing waves of the Sillon or a quiet hideaway in the backstreets of the old town, you are in for a treat. Take the time to research the exact view and room size, as historic buildings often have significant variations between room categories.

Ultimately, the perfect stay in Saint-Malo balances comfort with the rugged romance of the Breton coast. With the right base, you can spend your days exploring the ramparts, indulging in buckwheat crepes, and watching the highest tides in Europe roll in from the comfort of your hotel.
